The 1970 FIFA World Cup was the ninth staging of the World Cup, was held in Mexico, from 31 May to 21 June. The 1970 tournament was the first World Cup hosted in North America, and the first held outside South America and Europe. The final was won by Brazil, who beat Italy 4–1. With their third World Cup triumph, Brazil was allowed to keep the Jules Rimet Trophy permanently. A total of 75 teams entered the qualifying tournament. Those who failed to qualify included France, Portugal, Hungary, Argentina and Spain, which was a great upset to many European and Argentine fans. Meanwhile, Morocco became the first African nation to reach the World Cup since the Second World War. Five cities hosted the tournament.

The 1966 FIFA World Cup, the eighth staging of the World Cup, was held in England from 11 July to 30 July. In 1966 FIFA World Cup the Jules Rimet trophy was stolen from an exhibition display. Eight cities hosted the tournament. The FA commissioned used a replica cup in case the original cup was not found in time. This replica is held at the English National Football Museum in Preston, where it is on display. England won the final, beating West Germany 4–2. England received the recovered Jules Rimet trophy from Queen Elizabeth II and was crowned World Cup winners for the first time.

The 1954 FIFA World Cup was the fifth football World Cup. It was held in Switzerland from 16 June to 4 July. For the first time there was television coverage, and special coins were issued to mark the event. 16 teams (Brazil, Yugoslavia, Franc, Mexico, Hungary, West Germany, Turkey, Korea Republic, Uruguay, Austria Czechoslovakia Scotland England, Switzerland, Italy and Belgium) qualified for the tournament.

Six cities hosted the tournament:

Basel, St. Jakob Stadium;
Bern, Wankdorf Stadium;
Geneva, Charmilles Stadium;
Lausanne, Stade Olympique de la Pontaise;
Lugano, Cornaredo Stadium; and
Zürich, Hardturm Stadium.

The final was played at the Wankdorf Stadium, Berne. The tournament was won by West Germany, who defeated Hungary in the final, 3-2.

The 1938 FIFA World Cup was the third World Cup, which held in France from 4 June to 19 June. Originally 16 Country (France, Belgium, Italy, Norway, Brazil, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Dutch East Indie, Sweden, Austria, Cuba, and Romania) were going to take part.
