BBC Radio 2 Electric Proms Stop-Motion Trailer for Fallon Represents First Project for Brand New School London

LONDON -- (Oct. 22, 2010) -- Production company and design studio Brand New School London (BNS, www.brandnewschool.com) is very proud to announce its role in designing and directing a 30" promo trailer and additional visual content for advertising agency Fallon's campaign promoting the BBC Radio 2 Electric Proms. Radio 2's Electric Proms is dedicated to creating new moments in music. Created under the direction of Fallon's executive creative director Augusto Sola, art director Gary Anderson and copy writer Tony Miller, the innovative stop-motion trailer directed by BNS's Jonathan Notaro and Mario Stipinovich debuted yesterday on the BBC. The trailer promotes this year's Electric Proms performances from Elton John, Robert Plant and Neil Diamond, taking place from Thursday, 28 October, until Saturday, 30 October at the Roundhouse in London.

"This is always such an exciting event, and we are always really thrilled to be part of it," said Fallon CEO Gail Gallie. "The campaign captures all of that excitement in a really fresh and original way."

"We were thrilled to be asked by Fallon to submit a treatment for this amazing, high-profile project, and then to be awarded the job" began Kayt Hall, executive producer for BNS London. "The main idea behind the script was creating the faces of these iconic artists from actual pop memorabilia. We could not be happier with the results: It plays to all our strengths - strong design, great animation, and an end product that everyone is delighted with."

As Notaro explained, "In keeping with the agency's sentiments, we proposed producing the content practically through stop-motion animation, knowing that making physical objects move together to create readable portraits would give the idea the payoff and spectacle it deserved."

Planning for the ambitious production involved gathering, and in some cases, producing, props of the proper scale, anticipating that each face would be approximately 6 metres wide when assembled. Over the course of six days on a set in East London, in close collaboration with director of photography Toby Howell and using a Canon EOS 5D Mark II with Milo and Juno motion control rigs, the crew hand-animated the prescribed actions in reverse order (beginning with the final collages), capturing each sequence completely in-camera with single takes. The project was finished in Adobe After Effects at BNS London’s studio.

In addition to Notaro, Stipinovich, and Hall, credits for BNS London also include producer Kat Harrison, lead animator Andy Biddle, art director Andy Kelly, editor Jamie Foord, compositors Cassiano Prado and David Pocull, and rotoscope artist Rebecca Clay. Audio post is courtesy of Wave.

Along with Scion, ATTIK recently launched the campaign's "Take On the Machine" Augmented Reality Game at http://www.TakeOntheMachine.com (look for the "Augmented Reality" tab at the top), where for the very first time in a commercial game, an AR marker is used as the steering wheel to drive a car. A Spectacular print ad is appearing in the September issues of Inked, Giant Robot, Juxtapoz, XLR8R, Dsport, Modified and a few other magazines, where the ads feature a removable AR marker. Here are links to 72dpi versions of that ad, and the marker you can print out to play along:

Players can use the marker or their keyboards and then enter their best scores into the global or Facebook Friends' leaderboards.

Meticulously crafted by Evan and the other artists of the Emmy-winning Shilo, the spot artfully blends stunning, street skateboarding cinematography with mesmerizing animation brought to life from Pendleton and Rodriguez's original designs.

This 4-minute HD short film will debut tonight at New York's Museum of Modern Art as part of the premiere of the 2010 AICP Show, The Art & Technique of the American Commercial. Over the weeks to come, it will travel on with the Show to high-profile venues in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, Miami, and Richmond.

Beginning with an open brief for this project, the team from BNS, led by art/design director Eric Adolfsen, chose to artfully treat New York City as the canvas for the AICP Show's sponsor logos through an old-school, stop-motion animation approach. Embracing Brand New School's passions for animation, photography and filmmaking, the team first created logo animations and printed those frames on individual, brightly colored pieces of paper. Then, armed with a Canon 5D, tape, and a small fleet of bicycles for transportation, they spent 5 days traveling multiple boroughs capturing the footage. "For each company's mark, we devised animations and then scoured neighborhoods in search of locations for them that would all work together," said Adolfsen. "We tried never to repeat ourselves, each time trying to raise the bar. It was like a big game, played on the walls and streets of the city." Citing the wind as the biggest production challenge, Adolfsen and his fellow artists used Final Cut Pro for editorial, Adobe After Effects for stabilizing the footage, and Autodesk Flame for final color and finishing. Under the creative direction of ACDs Mike Mazza and Mark Dunn and coordinated by producer Barbro Eddy, they teamed with art director Jason Warne and copywriter Steve Nathans on "Goals," and art director Antonio Marcato and copywriter Thomas Kemeny on "Resolutions." In the words of Nathan Love's co-founder and creative director Joe Burrascano, who was recently featured in SHOOT Magazine's 2010 New Directors Showcase, "These two spots posed the interesting challenge of creating believable paper elements in CG. In order to inform the process, our designer broke out some paper, tape and glue to construct real-life models of the shapes that would later be modeled and rigged in Maya."

"Reinvent The Wheels" is a six-episode web-exclusive reality video series designed to give up-and-coming artists a chance to showcase their innovative ideas and build a car to further their creative craft while pushing the boundaries of self-expression. The series premiered at www.ReinventTheWheels.com back on March 29, and is also available via a mobile application, via many social networking sites and an embeddable Facebook application. In episode six, which debuted on May 3, DJ Anthony Valadez was crowned the winner. All episodes remain online, and beginning on May 10, the third phase of ATTIK's promotional assets began appearing online and via traditional media placements.

Philippe Guillerm began his professional life in Paris, France the city where he was born in 1959 and lived for twenty years. Through the years, he has traveled around the world with his wife Jacqueline and their two daughters Monique and Swanne on his forty-eight foot sailboat. He has worked on different art projects around the world in places such as the Black Pearl Museum in Tahiti, the International airports in Papeete and New Caledonia, and several yacht clubs and restaurants in Brazil and Australia. He also creates pieces in his most recent studio in Hope, Maine.

Guillerm's music-inspired sculptures are whimsical and curvaceous string instruments, he uses the theme as a way of expressing human nature and needs, you see an instrument, he sees an attitude. In addition to the musical theme, many of his sculptures depict sea scenes and animals. His other works include functional art like " Sculptural-speakers", finely carved furniture, large dimensional wall murals and monumental outdoor pieces. He works with exotic and local wood such as Mahogany, aspen, Jacaranda, poplar, wengue, purple heart, and walnut, using the wood's color like a painter uses paint. His works reflect dreams, illusions, and reality and invite the viewer to stop and reflect about human nature.

Philippe's works has been exhibited in galleries in Europe, South America, the Pacific Islands, France, Canada and United States. His interior designs and murals are in demand due to his clear sense of composition and development of the subject matter. Philippe continues to complete new projects, bringing his audience dreams and inspiration through his art.
