The year 2016 was pretty bad, but hey, it's 2017 now and we have a swarm of locusts invading the Earth. Everything is fine.

The clip at the top of this post was filmed in the East Kazakhstan region on Wednesday, and shows a vehicle driving into a swarm of countless locusts.

During a second incident in another location in southern Russia, a truck driver traveling along a highway in the republic of Dagestan captured a gray cloud slowly approaching the vehicle. When the cloud gets closer, as seen in the video below, it becomes clear that it's not a dust storm, but a sea of swarming locusts.

While it may seem like a plague is upon us, swarms of millions of locusts invading areas in southern Russia is actually not that uncommon.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food for the Republic of Dagestan, the swarm affected 114,500 hectares of farmland, despite attempts to stop the swarms through fumigation. Last month, the agency declared a state of emergency when a massive swarm hit the area,

The BBC reports the locust swarms have been happening for years, and Motherboardreported in 2016 that rising temperatures are causing locust swarms to happen more frequently.

We're sure that all is fine and this isn't a sign that the end is near.

The #1 video on YouTube right now is "Polishing a Rusty Knife," uploaded by Japanese YouTuber Jun on Monday. I'll cut right to it — this is a great video, and it deserves this honor.

First of all, the narrative arc here is extremely satisfying. As Jun explains, he purchased the rusty knife for $3 — far more than it was worth in its dilapidated condition. So, to get the best of the dude who ripped him off, he painstakingly buffs and sharpens it to perfection. It's a beautiful revenge story! Wow.

But the wonders don't stop there. After Jun finishes polishing the knife, he demonstrates its newfound powers by finely chopping a bunch of vegetables — and he's clearly an expert in the kitchen. Now we have two satisfying videos in one! Wow.

Finally — and a lot of Redditors have already pointed this out — Jun's adorable orange cat (who almost looks thrilled by the knife-polishing journey) really elevates the video into "classic" territory. But, friends, there is also a subtle second cat in the background. See it, perched on the countertop and gazing out the window? Wow.

Lenovo is back at blowing minds again with another concept device with a bendable screen.

At the third annual Lenovo Tech World last week, the Chinese tech giant wowed attendees with the Lenovo Folio, a tablet with a screen that folds in half into a phone.

Before you start getting too excited, you should know that the Folio is a concept device, which means it may not be released as a consumer product anytime soon. Even so, that doesn't make the device any less impressive.

The tablet has a 7.8-inch screen with 1,920 x 1,440 resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, and runs Android 7.0 Nougat. It's not exactly peak performance in 2017, but that's not why'd you want this thing — you'd want it for the bendable screen.

When folded, the tablet shrinks down into a 5.5-inch phone that could fit into your pocket. As you can see in the demo videos above and below, the display folds neatly in half with pixels filling all the space where a hinge would normally. The UI automatically adjusts to work as if there are two displays. It's pretty bananas!

As futuristic as the Folio is, Lenovo isn't the only company working on a tablets that fold up into phones. Samsung and Oppo have been developing the same exact thing for years.

Samsung's rumored foldable tablet-phone, codenamed "Galaxy X," was reportedly scheduled for launch by the end of this year, but production issues have supposedly pushed a commercial launch back until 2019.

The great tablet gold rush may be over with people opting for larger phones instead, but that doesn't mean they can't make a come back. A tablet that folds into a phone (or if you prefer, a phone that folds open into a tablet) could be just the thing to reinvigorate interest in slowing product category.

When two fishermen from Maine saw a seal trapped in a fishing net floating in the water, they immediately took action to rescue the little sea puppy. They lifted the seal onto their boat, and carefully cut away the net to set him free.

The seal barks a bit throughout the process, but we think he knows he's in good hands. Once the net is cut, the seal wiggles free and is placed back into the water, but not before getting a few scratchies from his heroes.

This is the type of good deed we love to see.

Securing An Establishment – Physical Access (Main Entrances)

We will be talking about security of IT hardware, human access and other physical and logical access possibilities and their solutions.

Door access can have many variations:

1. Biometric.

2. Card.

3. Pin code.

For securing physical access to a building, the first path of entrance must be secured. This is the most easiest and 90% of time the intruder uses this access to infiltrate the premises. Depending on the complexity of information, the security must be implemented for e.g. if it’s a office that deals with engineering designs then they must at least have a finger print scanner or a PIN code entrance method.

But if it’s a military base, the first level of security must be the security personals themselves, the checks must be done at the entrance of a car parking, the car parking must be at least 300m away from the main building and a passage that connects the parking and the entrance of the main building, the passage should have travelators as the travelator passage can me connected with sensors to detect arms and illegal items plus a ease of commuting.

Once these are cleared, there must be a combination of security hardware implemented e.g. biometric eye scanner with a 6 digit PIN number, which will make security even tighter. This is just the entrance to the building, but in a secured building, things will not be secured unless each door is locked digitally and access is allowed via authentication, thus can provide access cards for all the inner doors which will help keep a log and not all personals in a building will be allowed in all areas.

Of course we need CCTV cameras and will come back on this in later posts, the next post will be about Physical Access – Emergency Exits
