Have you heard of the New Label Project shop in Amsterdam ?

NO,well you'll hear from it a lot starting from now,as I'm joining in as one of the emerging designers to display in the shop.

The shop has a very neat "in the box" style ,where all the items for sell are placed in neutral white boxes and the spotlight is going to the displayed in the box items only and not to the interior decor fuss you may see in other concept shops

Starting from February ,I'll have one of these white beauties for my items too-Yey!!!

I decided to showcase my nautical rope accessories along with some other vintage flair designs I now call the "Nostalgia" line

Building the collection from scratch wasn't an easy task as I use to make things to order and now I had a box to fell with my goodies all at ones

But,I did it!!!

NAUTICAL NECKLACE

TNLP offers boxes in various sizes,for now I've decided to take the smallest one,which is 50x50cm.

The challenging part was to squeeze all I wanted to showcase in so small of a box. Of course I understood that in order for me to put more in a small space,I must go vertical...After brain storming with myself I found a solution and the materials to build my vertical belt stand-my small scale vintage light pole (how to in the next post)

Now I swear,I'll NEVER through any of my junk away even if pressured by others -my AWESOME I may say stand was constructed from a piece of wood -leftover from the pergola my hubby had build ,a piece of metal stick I don't know the origin of (I do think it was a stick that used to hold our IKEA dish drier ...But I'm not sure :D . It came with the boxes after we've moved,but we never did find where it belongs.

Hubs wanted to throw it,but I didn't let him-THANKS GOD for that!!! It turned out to be the perfect belts holder) and a decorative corner which was on it's way to the trash and was rescued by me

And look how handsome it turned out

I decided to age the wood a bit and also added a Shabby sign with my brand name on it

and...on reverse I screen printed my face as a little girl-NOSTALGIA or not

I arranged all my items together and this is how I'm hoping for my box to look like in the shop

Now wish me a GOOD LUCK with my new adventure and Bon Voyage :)

I'm really into green building and have ALWAYS wanted to make by myself an earth oven...And since I have a garden in my new place,I finally decided to make one-YEY

So I began with a soil testing and found out that I have the perfect dirt in my own garden and since it's a new neighborhood and people still working on building their homes,I found a bag with lots of construction send ...all left to find was straw-which was a really easy job here in the kibuz where I have cowshed just 5 minute walk from my crib ...so I had gather my supplies and got crack'n

Here is how all went-

ME mixing the cob with my bare feet (long time no play with mud :D )

building the insulating base for my oven+reusing some beer bottles ;)

FUN #2 begins-building a sand castle

It was a long time since I played with sand-I actually HATE getting my hands dirty :p

Even years back in art school the sculpting class was my least favorite class ,and here I am 14 years later,am building a sand castle

my sand castle has an Italian roots (not that straight I would say )

damp newspapers on top so I can find later where the cob ends and sand begins

covered the whole thing with first layer of clay /sand mix

and now the wait begins :(

I need to wait till my mix is a bit dry so I can curve to door out...

I will update you on how it goes as I'll do it and the second layer hopefully tomorrow if the weather will allow me

My NEW Crib

So at the last post I showed you where I live...and now I'll enter you into my lill home :)

It's really small-about 60 square meter in which I have a living space ,my work studio and kids bedroom YES...a little something is missing -our bedroom :D We sleep in a living room in an altered wall bed...Maybe that is why my absolutely favorite place in my crib is the living room!

I gathered there almost all the artworks by my favorite etsy artists and friends and really proud of how it looks

The main problem when living in a small space is to squeeze all our belongings in (we lived in a bigger apartment then this current one in Haifa ,which was too small for us even then,and now me are in an even smaller place -our biggest luck is my gift to know how to stuff a lot of things in a not that much big of a space

So here is how it all looks like

My Work Room-

It actually looks exactly like the old room,with tiny changes ...so I'll just let you scroll back a few post and see how it used to look to get an idea of how it looks right now

Uh..and my garden...well it's under construction -hubs build a gazebo for me and I started a little veggie/herb pallet planters going on (I'll show you how to make one later on in a separate post ) -sprouting seeds from everything -cheery tomatoes,peppers,water melon ,celery,onions ..I'm like a little kid in a candy shop-excited about every new leaf :D

Wow...it's been so long since my last post!!!

So much has happened since-

We moved to a new totally BEAUTIFUL city... I made A LOT of new stuff and still have so many ideas to fulfill...

I'll start with introduction of the new city I live in-Rosh Ha-Niqra

Rosh Ha-Niqra is a 70-m high chalk cliff on cape of Galilee coast on Israeli border with Lebanon.

Below the cliff are grottoes and tunnels carved out by water erosion and incessant pounding of waves against the limestone.

History

In ancient times Rosh Ha-Niqra was a passage point on an important route from Acre to Tyre. The place was then known as "the Ladders of Tyre", because of the steep ascent of the road when it climbed the cliff. In the Biblical book of Joshua Bin-Nun the place is mentioned as a northern border of the Israelite tribes in 14-13 centuries BCE.

In 333 Alexander the Great entered through Rosh ha-Niqra to the Land of Israel. It is believed that he has hewn a tunnel in the rock to facilitate the passage of his army from Tyre.

During the First and the Second World Wars the British army penetrated to Lebanon through Rosh ha-Niqra. Between the wars the road from Haifa to Beirut passed here, and in 1943 the British also broke a 250 m. tunnel through the rock and laid a railway line. They also established a border station and customs house on the place.

At the beginning of the War of Independence a Palmah unit demolished the railway bridge to prevent an invasion of Lebanese army to Israel. Police station and customs house were eventually taken by Lebanese army, but were evacuated after Armistice Agreement.

In 1949 the kibbutz "Kfar Rosh ha-Niqra" was founded near the base of the cliff and this is the place where we now live :)

After the War of Independence it became a tourist attraction, and it is now a part of a natural reserve.

The Grottoes

The grottoes of Rosh ha-Niqra were formed by the sea that has eaten out portions of the soft chalk rock. They join into 200 m. of cavernous tunnels, branching in various directions. In 1968 a tunnel was dug from the shore to the grottoes (before that, only experienced swimmers could access them). The passageways to the grottoes were constructed (they are 400 m. long). The cablecar brings visitors from the top of the cliff to the tunnels. From the top of the cliff and while going down in a cablecar, one can see a marvellous view of the Mediterranean coast.

Now this all ^^ sounds AMAZING ,right?! And you know what else is cool ??!

I actually got married in this GORGEOUS place

The sunlight arriving from outside and its reflections give the grottoes unique look changing during the day. The waves gain energy as they enter the narrow grottoes, and suddenly arrive from outside with a loud bang, splashing around.

The place is a part of the Achziv Natural Reserve, and its shore and sea fauna is protected. The grottoes are inhabited by bats. Huge loggerhead sea turtles live on the shore. A rare kind of walrus was detected near the shore.

Getting here

Rosh-ha-Niqra is situated at the northern end of of Israeli Mediterranean coast, 8 km. north of Naharia along Highway 4.

During the past few month HoneyCase2 has featured a few of my items in her lovely treasuries- among them were my Sailor Knot Headband and Sailor Knot Belt my Unique Wrap Folded dress and my favorite by many Owl purse...

Since both of us are members of the same etsy team - 4littlesquares,I get to see and admire her beautiful works quite often...
When I first entered her shop,for some reason the first thing that catch my mind ,was her location-Kiev,Ukraine.
Now I was born in Kiev,Ukraine,so seeing this artist's gorgeous works just puts me in a nostalgic mood...I never though I would miss Kiev as we relocated to Israel when I was pretty young,but still ,every time I see a seller from my city of birth,I feel a strong connection and pride -isn't it strange ?!

In a case of HoneyCase2,I have all the right to be proud -we both are members of the same great team, obviously as I mention above were born in the same BEAUTIFUL city and we make great stuff :D

And now,quick introduction to the colorful artist and how all this beauty started-

My love for textile, buttons, beads, lace and ribbons goes back very far to the time when I was a little girl visiting my grandma's house. My grandma had a room full of cupboards of all sizes and colors in which she piled her treasures that had come all the way from Germany back in 1939. It included fur coats, stray keys, strings, mother of pearl and crystal buttons from her father's shop, lace along with cotton night gowns and linen she had received for her wedding.
This room was my paradise.
When I grew up I followed my love and became a textile designer.
Many of the necklaces are made from second hand neckties. Neckties were always a mystery to me. No man in my environment has ever used one. Undoing this unknown object, using its tiny beautiful, colorful prints and turning it into female decorations was a challenge to my imagination.
I try to use as many recycled, reused or second hand materials as possible.
Every article is hand cut, ironed and stitched by hand in my home studio with great love and care. I do hope you are going to love it.

Is it Sleeping Fairy

Baby sleeping problem is well known issue any mother with a newborn gets to meet first hand sooner or later

Sheluv's issues with the sleeping fairy were due to the jumping reflex most infant have .

Cherifa my french artist friend has recommended me to make for Sheluv a sleeping sack to sleep in at nights.

She told me how her 6 month son is sleeping in one since his birth and showed me some pics of the styles variety

I've chosen one style that looked the most comfortable to me and headed to the drafting board

Here is what I designed and sewed for Sheluv

a Mimi Ourson (bear cub) Appliquéd and Hand Screen-Printed padded Sleeping Sack
My baby bear design was cut with Silhouette cutter and freehand machine embroidered onto 100% cotton fabric which was then hand screen-printed with Cherifa's lovely illustrations and then padded with wadding and sewn together to the cutest sleeping bag ever
The night I put Sheluv to sleep in her new sleep sack was the first night we all slept peacefully till about 4AM!!!
I STRONGLY recommend to any new mama getting one of these for her sweet pie

As you may already noticed,I've opened an additional etsy shop all dedicated to KIDS and their needs

It already has in organic cloth diapers ,diaper covers and organic and natural fiber hats...

I'm trying to add new things every week and eventually it will hold stock starting from bedding needs as sheets/bed skirt/duvets/head bumper to baby sleeping bags and nursery complimentary accessories and decor as diapers stacking bag /wipes box pouch/fabric basket etc.

To make the package perfect,in addition, the shop will carry items for bigger sisters and brothers-you'll see sweet girly hair accessories,preschool backpack bags,reusable sandwich wraps and of course room decor

New life...New Beginnings

Uh wow, I have so many new items to show you and things to tell I don't know where to start...

I guess, I'll start from the beginning-the birth of my second daughter-Sheluv

Even before Shelav's birth, I decided I wanna go with cloth diapers and at the last month of my pregnancy I started to sew the stock for my new sweetie.

I started with the smallest size-preemie . Although I gave birth on my 41 week of pregnancy and Sheluv was far away from being a preemie, I remembered how small Sierra was at her birth and wanted Sheluv to have diapers that fit her perfectly!

Sheluv was born at the weight of 3168 kg and the preemie diapers which run in 2-5 kg sizes were just PERFECT for her.

I made two types of diapers -the turned and top stitched fitted style and the pocket fitted ones.

Both versions made of organic bamboo velour in and out with hidden layer of organic hemp fleece for extra absorbency

Sheluv is modeling her new cloth diaper

★Since the diapers are made of absorbent materials inside-out , they DO require a diaper cover to be used with them.

And so,I made a pull-on reversible PU diaper cover using two lovely prints
NO front or reverse side here-both sides are wearable without visible seams to irritate the delicate skin of my precious and...it can work great as a swim panties too, since it's made of fast dry woven waterproof polyester

AWESOME and very comfortable item!

I LOVE these woolies so much! They are made of 100% merino wool and are just perfect as a diaper cover!!!

In opposite to PU covers,they don't hold odor in and only require some airing between uses if not soiled !!!

At the beginning I didn't believe to the airing part and kept washing them after they soaked the pee during the night,but one day I left them hanging outside for a while and after about an hour ALL the smells had miraculously vanished !!!

Wooli Minis will be available to purchase in my shop in natural white color during the month-I REALLY RECOMMEND getting a pair or two

Now I'm waiting for new fabric delivery to arrive so I can make some AIO and AI2 style cloth diapers to add to my collection as well as adjustable rise One Size ones...So stay tuned for more pics later this month :)

At the mean time I can only tell that I'm super happy with the cloth diapers and wouldn't even think of exchanging them to the disposable ones

Some tips for those who may consider to get some for their babies would be

A. wash the diapers several times before use to remove the natural oils from the fibers which prevent the diapers from soaking in the wee wee and the poo (I can tell from my personal experience,that my diapers started to absorb really well after about 5 washes!)

B. Never use bleach to remove stains as the sun light does a great job at that department !!!

And if you ask my personal preference, I like the pocket fitted better then top stitched with the insert sewed in ones,since they dry much faster and I can play with the amount of liners ...I also find the pocket fitted to hold the poo better!!!

Though,I'm working on improving the pattern of the turned and top stitched ones to make them hold the blow-outs as good as the pocket ones :)

Birthdays weekend

The end of May turned out to be a birthday weekend...

on May 25th,my smallest nephew turned 5, my father in law has celebrated his B-Day one day after on the 26th ...and this Saturday one of Sierra's friends at the kinder garden had his birthday party going on-what a busy week for me (making birthday presents of course :D )

My mom told me that Allen (nephew) really wants a dinosaur T-shirt and she can't find one at stores anywhere ...What a pleasant surprise that was (for me) as I have a ready Dino screen laying around for months now (reminiscent of a custom order I'd make at time when alchemy was still alive on etsy :( I miss alchemy dearly!!! etsy,PLEASE bring it back!!!! PLEASE!!! )

So I asked my mom to buy a plain T-shirt in the right size,and I printed a OOAK T for my little nephew

I collaged the print from 3 different screens to make this cool Heavy Metal Dino Tee

The original screen had some privet customer's joke in the speech box and the street sign...I covered these and replaced their wording with a HEAVY METAL print (I know there is nothing heavy metal about this design,but the font worked really well with the frame and I thought it was funny the word play of "heavy" and the huge dinosaur )

I had a little fuck up at the right side of the frame (the screen has shifted a bit), so I decided to cover the imperfection by adding a splash of color (he,he another word play :-D )

Turned out pretty neat ,I LOVE the result and actually considering to sell this design in my kids shop -what do you say?

My father in law got a chocolate fudge cake as a present lol

and for the third present ,here is another design I combined from screens made for old custom orders

a CRIME SCENE Race Car tee

This T went to May (Sierra's kinder garden friend )

The base of this T-shirt was reconstructed from Michael's new old Castro top which he had donated to me :D

"new" because he never wore it,but it was an old T laying in the clothed...so basically,it's an upcycled present

And so,I cut men's Medium size T to make a 6T T-shirt for a 5 year old

In this project I used two screens to create this crime scene composition

Finally I found use for all my unused screens which I didn't want to erase,but nevertheless had no use of .

I believe both the designs can sell pretty well for 4-7 range boys (at least I know May likes his new T-shirt ,as he wore it today to the kinder garden...I was so proud seeing him in it and his mom LOVES it!

Handmade Soap

Glitter Flowers wall decoration DIY

In my "It's time for check list... " post I wrote about making a multicolor glittered flowers to decorate the walls and thought maybe you'd like to do the same for your kid's room decorations,so I took some making of photos to share with you

To make your wall shine,you'll need -
a simple sticky stencil
any glaze you use for your paper crafts
paint brush
glitter

Cut any shape you like using a sticky sheet- I'm using a simple vinyl and my Silhouette cutter machine to cut my stencil,but you easily can cut a simple shape in the vinyl by using your craft knife
Stick the vinyl stencil in it's chosen place on the wall
Put a nice coat of glaze in the "stamping" area
Wait a bit till it becomes a bit tacky
Using your fingers, "glue" the glitter in the previously glazed areas
Peel of the stencil-don't let the glaze dry,otherwise while pulling,you may accidentally remove some of the glitter off the wall
Let dry and enjoy the sparkles

Shabby Chic Jewelry Display Bulletin Board-DIY

Princess Sierra has a lot of Royalty jewels which must be put somewhere ...so I had a thought of making one of these display frames you often see in jewelry shops and craft fairs.

I had all the needed supplies and within a hour or so,Shabby Chic jewelry display was born

To make one for yourself,you'll need -

cardboard

cork sheet

gypsum or acrylic shapes

white spray

hot glue

double sided tape

and some push pins

Gather your supplies

Shape with your gypsum flourishes the frame you'd like to create and trace that shape on your cardstock
Cut the cardstock and the cork accordingly
Using your double sided tape, tape the cork onto the cardstock *I used two layers of the tape to give some "meat" to the display board otherwise,the cork sheet is too thin and the push pins won't hold in place. If you're not going to make an intricate shape for your display board,you always can upcycle an old and ready bulletin board,which usually has a layer of cardboard inside,that will give you enough depth to stick the pin in...Otherwise,use my method
When your base is ready,it's the paint job time- spray the gypsum shapes with the white spray to give them the Shabby look
Hot glue the shapes onto the bulletin board you had previously create
Spray it white too
Stick in your push pins and here you have it-your beautiful handmade jewelry display
