Birthday Season part II - Sierra's 8th birthday 'Birds & Butterflies'

Three month after we have celebrated Sheluvi's B-Day and only 2 weeks after our third little princess Sage was born , I through an 8th Birthday bash for our oldest princess Sierra.
This time the theme was 'Birds & Butterflies'

For the invitations I went for an 'Exploding Card' or 'Card in a Box'
Every single card was handmade and had a little birdie and butterflies in it-all were done in party chosen theme colors of lime and fuchsia

Each card was a little bit different and completely OOAK

{By the way, if you would like for me to write up a quick tut on how to make these little boxes stuffed with colorful pop ups,drop me a line in the message section bellow and I gladly will! }

So I made 10 of these puppies and we were ready to go PARTY

Let me tell you something, for me each of my girl's birthdays is like a little Christmas :)

And since we are not celebrating Christmas being Jewish, each chance I have to open my party decoration box it feels just a tiny winy like Christmas in July.

And when the day of the birthday arrives ,I can't wait to put my hands on all of my bunting and paper balls-is it just me or you all feel like this?!

This birthday as I mention before was all butterflies and birds,so the craft table was decorated accordingly-

I used a lime table cloth with natural burlap runner I got from Canvas Corp Brand on top to emphasize the earthiness of the design ,added a piece of driftwood and spread lots and lots of butterflies all over

Each of Sierra's girlfriends got a treat bag with butterfly name tag on top and butterfly craft kit inside

And my little, big princess Sierra was shining from happiness :)

This time I did use fondant for the top of the cake ,but went with the trend of the 'Naked Cake' for the sides.

I decided to kind of copy the bird and butterflies invitations I have done ,so I drew the bird from the napkin I used to make the actual invites.

I you will see, I baked like crazy throughout the weekend so that the dessert table will carry all the cookies Sierra loves

Everything was home made from start to bottom -even the dessert trays

The mini donuts were colored in lime and pink too :)

The alfajores stayed creamy white but were just delish :P

Popcorn ,cause everybody loves popcorn including the birdies

And the drinks were squeezed out of fresh ,locally grown and self picked passion fruits and nectarines

Of course the show stiller was the candy man again ...and note to self would be to have learn the lesson and bring out the fairy floss maker at the end of the party instead of the beginning of it!!!!
The kids stood in line to get some sugar on a stick and almost non of the desserts I have done were even touched (well ...more stayed for us so it was a win,win situation anyway lol )

Birthday Season has BEGAN - Sheluvi's Fairy party

Soooo here came the party season of our little bear family and first birthday to be celebrated is Sheluvi's
Sheluv is gonna turn 4 this year and this is her very first party to celebrate with her kinder garden friends. As a true princess she asked for a Fairy themed party and I as her own privet Fairy Mother started the hectic preps.
As you all know, each fairy tail begins with magical invitation and since the birthday is in Passover times I wanted to go with the decorated Fairy Egg "hidden message" invitations.

Each egg was drained from content ,boiled, dried and hand decorated!
Then a tini, tiny invitation was rolled and inserted in among some fairy dust glitter.

{By the way,if you want me to write a quick tut on how all this loveliness was done,drop me a a line in the message section below and I gladly will }

After the invites were ready and given, it was so much FUN watching how the kids broke them!!!
The surprised look on their twinkling eyes when the glitter flew out and the overall magical vibe these hidden message fairy eggs created for everyone of us were all well worth the time spent on making them

And then...after the hard work on the invitation eggs has been completed the real labor began- the DESSERTS making... ta dam!!!
I've planned a whole list of them but the most time consuming /work intensive were the decorated Fairy Cake and the party favor chocolate "kinder" like huge surprise eggs

The tempering of the chocolate...mold coating ...finger licking and the nerve racking of them all-taking out the chocolate eggs from the molds... OMGosh, my eggs were shaking ...literally :P

The crafty part of this activity other than the activity of making the actual eggs was given upon honor to the big sister-Sierra who proudly and very creatively made ALL the little surprises that went into the eggs

Sierra and I carefully packed all of them ,put a credit sticker on each and placed them into the eggs

Of course all were sealed with a second half of a chocolate heaven delight and went into cute little treat baggies that I forgot to take pictures of

Next came the cake!
Usually I would make a MMF (marshmallow fondant ) decorated cake,but this time I decided to go with less sugar and more healthy calories so....chocolate decorations it was!

Here comes THE Cake

And happily ever after the B-Day arrived

Decorations were hang

Dessert table was set under the enchanting tree

Sweets and Treats were all over

Almond bites and Peanut cupcakes

Mini Donuts

Fruity Fairy Wands

Milk bottles

Russian dessert-Zdeffir

Freshly squeezed Orange juice

Then...The Candy Man arrived with Fairy Floss

and spread much happiness around our little fairy guests

After so many calories consumed we had a blast crafting with the kiddos using my new DIY necklace/mobile kit

And all in all, our little kitty cheerfully celebrated her 4th Fairy Birthday

We LOVE you our sweetheart and wish you MANY,MANY more awesome birthdays to come

Book Clutch DIY

The other day I saw this neat book clutch on Pinterest and since I am a book binder myself,I immediately wanted one too :)
And since I decided to make one for myself, I thought you might want to make one for yourself as well ,so while making my own I took pics of stages for you to see how it's done ;)

To make a Book Clutch you obviously will need a book.
One with hard cover which you won't mind destroying ...
I don't have books like that,so I made my own cover

To make a cover you'll need -

Book Board
Book Cloth or other heavy material
Glue (I use Elmer's glue)
Brush to apply your glue with
X-Acto knife

Cut two same size boards and one narrow board for book's spine.
The size of the boards will establish the overall size of your book clutch.
The spine will be the depth of your clutch
My book is a tad smaller than A5 sheet

Apply glue on your chosen cloth and on one side of all boards and wrap the boards with it

Leave about 3-4mm margin between the cover boards and the spine to allow opening

Set to dry. Then decorate as you wish

I hand screen printed mine :)

Now when your cover is ready and set, prepare the materials for the clutch

You'll need-

Zipper (long enough to cover three sides of your cover )
2 end sheets cut to size of the cover
I'm using the FAB Canvas Corp. French Script Printed Canvas sheets
1 spine sheet cut two times larger than the spine width and same size as the spine height
2 tongues to cover zipper's ends
These beauties are too from CC Brands and are named Tile Printed Canvas
2 front and 2 lining pieces for the sides of the zipper cut the width of the zipper and the length of the zipper + the two tongues
I'm using both "Tile Printed Canvas and Chevron Printed Canvas sheets for these
sewing machine (optional)
glue gun

Begin by setting zipper's tongues and sides-

First sew (or if you can't sew,hot glue ) the tongues to both ends of the zipper and after attach the sides . Do so by sandwiching the zipper between two side layers ( front and lining) and sewing or glue in along the zipper teeth. When done,you should have a fully enclosed zipper that looks good both from front and the reverse

Take your enclosed zipper and with a hot glue gun glue it into the book cover

Start gluing from the middle of the spine and proceed to one of the covers
Notice how the tongue of the zipper is glued parallel to the spine ,while the rest is glues horizontally, beginning where the actual zipper teeth start !!!

When you reach the end follow the same instructions as above to set the second bottom tongue (again gluing it parallel to the spine!!! )

After the first half a clutch glued in,open the zipper and do the exact same procedure to the other side of the cover

When all is glued in proceed to treat the inside of the clutch.

Begin by gluing in the spine sheet-

Fold the top and bottom raw edges in (glue them with glue gun) and lay a layer of Elmer's glue on top

Place the sheet on top of the spine and neaten it smooth

Repeat the same steps for the end sheets -this time folding all four raw edges in ,hot gun gluing the ends and finally adhering it all with Elmer's glue to the inside covers of your now finished book clutch :)

Take a minute to admire your work

Neat project right ?!

Super quick sewn Notebook DIY

Everyone likes a nice looking jotter and non will look better than one done by yourself !!
Now days,with the HUGE variety of beautiful designer card stocks,this project is easy as a pie.

Here is a quick tut on how to make your own beautiful sewn notebook

What you'll need is :
10 printer sheets (can be blank or printed)
1 12x12" cardstock sheet by Tattered Angels #20864
x-acto knife
piercer
polyester thread
needle

So to start with, you'll take all your printer sheets stuck them together and fold them in half

Cut your 12" card stock to end up being 21 cm high .
Leave the width as is.
This will make your jotter's cover .

Fold it in half

Place the folded sheets inside the cover .Mark 6 dots and pierce them throughout all the layers

Now we will sew the jotter (we will be using the easy peasy saddle stitch )
Take your poly thread ,measure and cut it to two length of your notebook

Start inside the notebook on one end and make a simple running stitch passing through the holes
Leave a 2" tail!

When you reach the end ,continue the running stitch backwards to meet the tail

When you finished stitching your thread will come outside to the cover side
Make a loop and knot it

Push the needle back inside through the same hole you just came out of

Tie an additional square knot and cut the ends short

Burn the ends with a lighter and your jotter is ready to write in and enjoy from

Let me tell you, this FUN tangled notebook will make someone soooo happy!!!
Aside the fact that Zentanle Art is super IN this season and giving such a lovely designed present will make anyone drool on , the Tattered Angels "Tattered Tangles" cardstock collection sheet I used to make it can also be easily drawn in, it's mistable and paintable !!!
So basically, you get one notebook and can end up with a completely different one at the end of use-just let your imagination fly and guide you towards all together new creation - color it in with your markers, mist it , glaze or paint it...anything goes,just have fun doing it :)
Uh, and one more thing-the reverse side of the paper is blank, but has the same great finish, so you can add your own designs to the inside cover and you'll never be bored in the classroom again ;)

You Light Up my Life- Valentines Card DIY

The awesome crew from -Canvas Crop Brands had challenge us their Design Team, to craft a V-Day card ...

The official name of the challenge is:Surprise Valentine Card

Description:we challenge you to create a “Valentine” card,photograph it,share it with us and then send it off to someone who is not expecting a card from you—an old friend, the clerk at the grocery store, your favorite barista, etc.
We realize that Valentine’s Day may not be celebrated the same way across the world, but what better excuse to send well wishes to someone who is not expecting it and make their day
Our team at the offices will all be doing this as well.
We would love to hear your story when you send in your project photo and we will be featuring a few of the stories in an upcoming February Post

Welllll.....My card and Envelope both go to my handsome hubby :)
And trust me, this set most DEF will take him by surprise as we don't celebrate an actual V-Day here in Israel.
My design is based on my husband's occupation - he is a practical electrical engineer, hence the light bulb and he just has launched his own recycled pipe light fixture collection,so it all got connected pretty well for me

The envelope has a nerdy /whimsy design of hand screen printed (fake) equation that reveals a hidden " i Love You" message when you open the flap of the envelope ,which to my opinion is quite rad

Here is how the magic happens -

You'll need a kraft greeting card/envelope set by CCB Canvas Home Basics

Acrylic paint

Stencil/ Silkscreen with your design on

Squeegee

Gelli Plate

Tattered Angels "Wheat Beer" Glimmer Mist

Printout of a light bulb-I designed one myself, but you can find many free light bulb vectors online

To start with, you'll need to tape your envy in place to prevent it from moving

Lay your stencil/ screen on top carefully choosing the right position

Put a line of acrylic paint on top

And squeegee the paint over the design

Voila

Proceed to decorate as you desire using your Gelli plate

Now for the card-

Cut the shape of your light bulb out of the paper and glue it on top of the card

Generously spray it with Glimmer Mist

Let dry and then sand your card a bit to give the misted area a desired roundish shape- I wanted the sparkles to look like the shine/radiation of a real light bulb

Glue some sentiments on and you are set to go

My Workspace - Busy, Practical ,Creative

I've got contacted by WeWork a co-working company that focuses on building and empowering people to do what they love ,asking me to share my creative workspace with their community .
Obviously, I gladly accepted and here I am sharing my space with you guys :)

To tell you the truth , I wouldn't call my workspace inspirational , but rather a practical one .
I work in a very tiny space and don't have the luxury to "waste" my walls on art and knick knacks as I may wanted . However, I truly think my work area is super creative even though .

So what I have in my little corner-
As I mentioned before it's a very small space, so I needed to find a practical solution for my big drafting table.After giving it a lot of though,I designed and hand crafted a fold over table that suits my every needs- it has a hinged table top I open wide when I draft and cut my fashion designs and close it for my other crafty needs .
My walls are FULL of tools hanged from magnetic bars and metal baskets -you will find there stuff like patterned rollers and wood carved stamps for fabric printing , bryers, staplers , button makers ,hole piercers ,rulers ,rotary knives and so on.
At the far end knook ,I have my screen-printing station , UV table ,all my screens and paints , shelves full of dyes and dye related chemicals, inks ,acrylic paints and a big stush of papers for my hand bound books

The other side of the room has all my patterns and my XYRON adhesive stations .

As you can see every inch of my walls is crowded with art supplies and this is the way I love it-I just LOVE tools :)

So here you go, now you've seen my busy work corner and it may seen completely not inspiring and totally not "designed" as it may be expected from an artist and designer, but don't worry, I do have my peacefully artistic corner too-it's on the opposite side of my room and it is totally and completely the designer and artist side of ME :)

It has artistically painted walls with monoprinted and hand drawn flowers all over and an art display by my favorite illustrators . So when I finish my busy workday I can relax ,admire and get inspiration without being distracted

In my previous post I told you about my new hand bound books +Etsy shop hiBOOK .
In this post I want to talk not about my SierkaPerka jewelry shop, but about the exciting process of making of the copper electroformed jewelry I sell there .

What exactly is Electroforming anyway ?
Electroforming is a metal forming process that forms thin parts through electrodeposition
This process is differs from electroplating in that the deposit is much thicker than the phases which are plated and can exist as a self-supporting structure.
In the basic electroforming process, an electrolytic bath is used to deposit copper onto a conductive surface. Once the deposited material has been built up to the desired thickness, the master electroform is parted from the premaster substrate.
This process allows high-quality duplication of the premaster and therefore permits quality production.

I LOVE electroforming mainly for the ability to make nature duplicates!
What can be more awesome than taking a simple leaf from a tree that grows in your garden and make an EXACT replica of the leaf in metal?!
The possibilities are endless!!!!! You just need a little bit of imagination and the jewelry practically makes itself.
Of course turning a biological matter into metal isa time consuming process, but the results are beyond rewarding :)
So in this post I want to show you my latest creation (not finished as a jewelry piece yet, but so, so beautiful)
I gonna show you how I turned this cool looking dried seed branch into a 100% copper bead

As you may already understand, turning a branch into copper bead requires several steps of lacquering and coating of the branch and then placing it into an electrolytic bath

In the photo above you can see the branch I've electroformed resting on top of the varnish can in the center left of the photo, plus some other nature elements I plan on electroforming in the future
The electrolytic bath is the blue liquid in the beaker

So after all the coatings and drying has been done, I dip the element in acid bath and let it cook for a while - in some cases it can take a few hours ,with bigger or delicate items it can take several days even

When speaking of electroforming gemstones, after I decide that enough of the copper has been built up I remove the gem from the bath , place it in soda water to neutralize the acid, wash it thoroughly ,baff and polish to desired shine ,take photos and put it up for sale in SierkaPerka shop :)

Here for example is one of my lovely Agate Geode stud earrings electroformed in copper

BUT, with this copper electroformed branch the process is MUCH longer !

After I take it from the bath and neutralize it, I grab my torch and anneal the newly formed copper to burn the wood branch from the inside

Annealing is such a neat thing- while heating the metal you can actually see how copper gets oxidized and shows a spectrum of hues starting from yellow to pink to deep purples

When there is no flame and smell of burnt wood left,I scrape the charcoaled wood from the inside of the form and like magic, a hollow bead is born

See the burnt pieces in the photo -these are the branch pieces I scraped from the inside of the form

And here in this photo you can see a small piece of burnt wood peeking out from the almost hollow form

Isn't it just AMAZING !!!!

Next step would be to make this sweet branch bead into a lovely necklace -I can hardly wait :) Meanwhile, you welcome to visit my shop and check out my already formed copper nature jewelry

Since I got involved with Documented Life Project I found new passion for books -HAND BOUND books to be exact.
The beauty of creating OOAK covers...The meditative signature sewing...The dilemma of choosing between tens of options and techniques you want your book to be bound at...The fascinating world of handmade book headbands ...My God, what a peaceful trade and I have the pleasure to practise it daily :)
And between my swimsuits design,pattern drafting and sewing, , binding books became my serenity escape

The first bookbinding technique I mastered at was coptic stitch.
Quite a simple yet with a very pretty results technique which features an "exposed spine" of visible signatures
The great thing about this binding method is the fact that the book can be opened up completely flat ,making it a perfect option for photo albums, scrapbooking ,journaling ,easy sketching etc

I made several books in this binding technique and my absolute favorite book would be the personalized sketchbook with a portrait of the customer and her sweet puppy shown on the spine and looks almost like a 3D pic

I started the book by sketching a portrait of my lovely client

and then bound it using the coptic stitch into this soft cover artist sketchbook

The beauty of this Artist book is not only the coolest spine ,but the fact that you can see the whole picture throughout the book

So basically , this book is like a life story -you can see the face of a person changes from different points of view and never see the whole picture till you look inside :)

I think this book will make a perfect personal present for that someone special in your life,might it be your loved one, dear friend or even YOU yourself!

This is the story of cake evolution or revolution really

As you may know, I like being different

Not scared to draw outside the lines...Cause drawing outside the lines is the new BLACK

This post will be dedicated to the new black in party desserts -the cakepops

So I was asked to make a cake for Sierra's fake birthday party at the school...

I made my lovely marble cake ,but it wasn't happy...it was sad even...boring.
So I promised her an upgrade which I spent about two hours making and in the end ,the makeover has been announced as a huge success- the cake turned into 28 CAKEPOPS

Noted a huge excitement for them at the teacher's lounge

Here is the How to

What you'll need:

Cake
Frosting
Candy sticks
Chocolate- white/milk/bitter
Vegetable oil
Lots of patience

We start as you may have understood already , by baking a cake -any cake will do

Not an easy pic ,I know :D You need to brake that cake to pieces

And now go really wild and make it into crumbs

The frosting I used was Italian Meringue Buttercream

Grab a spoonful of your frosting and add it to your crumbs. Mix it well in. If you see that your mixture is still crumbly and dry, add additional spoon of frosting .Do so till you have a dough type mixture

When your mixture is done ,roll small 1" ( approx. 20 grams) cake balls from itWhen all the cake balls are ready, put them for half an hour to chill in the freezer

Meanwhile melt a chocolate of your choice . Take your cake balls out of the freezer. Deep the candy stick about 1 1/2 cm deep into the melted chocolate and immediately stick it into the cake ball .

Bring the ready cake balls back to fridge for additional chilling -it's important for the balls to be well chilled prior the final coating

Add veggie oil to the melted chocolate -the rule of thumb would be to add 1 TB oil for each 100 grams of melted chocolate . Mix the oil well into the chocolate mixture and let it come to room temperature

Transfer the melted chocolate mixture into a tall narrow vasele. Take out the now well cooled cake balls from the fridge and dip each in the chocolate .

It's VERY important NOT to roll the cakepop inside the chocolate mixture, but rather quickly dip , pull up and twist the cake pop above the chocolate , letting the chocolate coating coat the cakepop while dripping back in

אז התבקשתי להכין עוגה למסיבת יום הולדת "בכאילו" של הגדולה שלי בבית הספר

הכנתי עוגת שיש.הסתכלתי עליה והיא פשוט לא דיברה עלי...היתה משועממם משהו ...עצובה. אז הבטחתי לה שידרוג משמעותי במראה וכך תוך שעתיים בערך היא קיבלה אחלה מייקאובר והפכה ל-28 קייקפופס -עוגה ,שהפכה לסוכרייות

לפניכם שלבי ההכנה

: מה תצטרכו

עוגה*

קרם*

מקלות של סוכריות*

שוקולד לבן /חלב/מריר*

שמן צמחי*

הרבה סבלנות *

מתחילים כפי שהבנתם מאפיית העוגה- כל עוגה תתאים

תמונות לא פשוטות, אני יודעת חחח-עליכם לפרק את העוגה לחתיכות קטנות

ועכשיו ממש תתפרעו ופוררו אותה לפירורים

קחו כף של הקרם שלכם וערבבו לתוך עיסת הפירורים. אם העיסה ממשיכה להיות פירורית ולא מתגבשת לידי מסה אחידה, הוסיפו עוד כף וכך תמשיכו עד אשר תהיה בידכם עיסה שניתן לגלגל לכדור

כשהעיסה מוכנה, כדררו ממנה כדורים בקוטר לא יותר גדול מ-2.5 ס"מ כ-20 גרם

!אל תנסו לעשות כדורים יותר גדולים - זכרו, מסה כבדה לא תחזיק על המקל סוכריה

כשכל הכדורים מוכנים, הכניסו אותם לפריזר לכחצי שעה

בנתיים המיסו שוקולד לבחירתכם. הוציאו את הכדורים מההקפאה ,טבלו מקל לאורך כ-1.5 ס"מ בתוך השוקולד המומס ומייד הכניסו את המקל לתוך כדור העוגה והחזירו לצינון -חשוב מאוד שהכדורים יהיו קרים מאוד לפני הציפוי

הוסיפו שמן צמחי לתוך השוקולד המומס -הכלל יהיה שעל כל 100 גרם שוקולד מומס, יש להוסיף כף אחת של שמן צמחי

ערבבו את השמן הצמחי היטב פנימה והביאו את התערובת לטמפרטורת החדר

העבירו את תערובת השוקולד לתוך כלי צר ועמוק . הוציאו את כדורי העוגה הצוננים מהמקרר וטבלו כל כדור בתוך השוקולד המומס . חשוב מאוד , אל תסובבו את הכדור בתוך השוקולד אלא טבלו, שלפו את הכדור הטבול מהתערובת ואז
סובבו את המקל בזווית מעל תערובת השוקולד כדי לתת לעודפי השוקולד לגלוש על הכדור חזרה לכלי

החיסרון הוא, שהסוכריות עוגה חוטפות שוק מאסיבי כשהן יוצאות מהמקפיא לעבר החום הארצישראלי וגם הפעם, כמונו בדיוק, מייד מתחילות להזיע ...הטעם כמובן לא נפגע

The dessert table with my awesome birdcage cake stand which I showed the making of process in my last post,honorably holding my homemade lemoni italian meringue buttercream macarons and my winner chocolate cupcakes topped with orange chocolate ganache and wrapped in handmade cupcake wrappers.

And next to them were my white chocolate coconut cocktails served in these sweet little milk bottles-it was SWEET

Invited a very talented musician to play life music at the party-he gave his soul and it was incredible

I taught the girls how to monoprint a Pop Art style portrait without a press

And the other girls enjoyed their time embroidering colorful pattern and delicate flourishes

The preparations for the Etsy craft party I'm hosting are on and in a full mode and obviously, part of having a craft party is handmade party decorations.

In this post here, I want to show you how to make an awesome dessert stand made completely out of recycled and quite surprising materials.
And yes, it's true, you can easily buy a ready made stand at the stores, but not here in PettiBear's lair, here when I want something neat and pretty,I don't buy it,I MAKE it
So let's begin- we are going to make a Birdcage Cupcake/Dessert Stand

Our process will begin at the flea market (that's already fun even without the DIY :)

At the flea market you need to source after an old tired birdcage (to tell you the truth,I've found mine thrown under the house I live at-score ! )

Along with the birdcage,you'll need to find an empty electrical cord bobbin ,decorative paper plates,jigsaw , industrial stapler , Elmers Glue and some decorations of your choosing

To start with the project you'll need to cut about 1/4 of the birdcage height wise , to dismember the electrical cord bobbin and place it underneath the birdcage to create a cut template for the shelvings ,trace the inner contour of the cage and saw through the line to create the shelves

When the shelves are cut, press the paper plates with hot iron to flatten , smear Elmers glue on top of the shelves and the plates and glue them together

Now it's the time to assemble the cake stand. Place the top shelf in place you'd like it to be and staple it to the birdcage . Do the same with the bottom shelf

The final step to the finish line would be the decor- I decorated my cage with soutache braid in pink, added some handmade paper flowers I've specially made in coordinating colors and shapes to the flowers which are drawn on the plates and gave the final touch with faux pink pearls and crystal garlands

And Ta DA, my old bird cage has been "RECAPTURED" into this stunning dessert stand which will be not only perfect for my +Etsy craft party event,but also for any fancy party like sweet 16, Bat Mitzvah or a Wedding

ההכנות למסיבת היצירה בעיצומן וכמובן חלק מאירוח של מסיבת יצירה כרוך באיך לא,קישוטים ודקורציה שנעשיתם בעבודת יד כמובן

בפוסט הזה אני רוצה להראות לכן איך לעשות לבד סטנד דקורטיבי לקאפקייקס או עוגות שכולו עשוי מחומרים ממוחזרים ומאוד מפתיעים

ונכון, אפשר לקנות מוכן, אבל לא בבית ספרי, אצלי כשרוצים משהו מיוחד, מכינים אותו לבד

אם כן בואו נתחיל אנחנו הולכות להכין סטנד לעוגות מכלוב ציפורים

התהליך מתחיל בשוק הפשפשים, שם תצטרכו לתור אחרי כלוב ציפורים ישן ( גילוי נאות, אני מצאתי את שלי זרוק מתחת
לבית בו אני מתגוררת). כמו כן ,תצטרכו גליל ריק של כבלי חשמל ,צלחות נייר חד פעמיות דקורטיביות, מסור חשמלי
(ג'יגסו ), שדכן תעשייתי ,דבק נגרים וקישוטים שונים לבחירה

כדי להתחיל יש לחתוך בערך רבע מהכלוב לאורכו , לפרק את הגליל כבלי חשמל ולהניח אותו מתחת לכלוב החתוך על מנת ליצור שבלונה של מדפי הסטנד ,להעתיק את קוי המתאר הפנימי ולנסר את המדף

לאחר שהמדפים חתוכים , השטיחו את הצלחתת נייר בעזרת מגהץ , מירחו דבק נגרים על הפלטה החתוכה והצלחת והדביקו את שניהם יחדיו ליצירת מדף דקורטיבי

עכשיו זה הזמן לחבר את המדפים. מרכיבים את המדף העליון במקום הרצוי ומשדכים אותו לרשת של הכלוב. חוזרים על התהליך גם עם המדף התחתון

לסיום סיומת, קשטו את הכלוב כלבבכם - אני עיטרתי את צידי המדפים בסרט סאוטאג' ורוד ,הדבקתי פרחי נייר שעשיתי במיוחד בצבעים ובצורות מתואמות לציורים של הצלחות , וסיימתי בשרשראות פנינים וקריסטלים

והנה התוצאה הסופית-כלוב ציפורים שהפך לסטנד קינוחים מושלם לכל אירוע בין אם זה מסיבת יצירה, בת מצווה או חתונה

-לפני חודש וחצי בערך אטסי יצאו בקריאה לקהילת האומנים והיוצרים ברחבי העולם לערוך מסיבת יצירה המונית

. מסיבה תחת נושא אחד ומשותף לכולם, שתערך ברחבי העולם כולו באותו התאריך ה-6/6 ביום שישי

.קרי, מתן משמעות חדשה לתמונות שלנו RECAPTURE הנושא שנקבע לשנת 2014 הוא
לפני שקראתי את ההנחיות שנתנו אטסי למארחי המסיבות אמרתי לעצמי, או קיי...נושא מאתגר...איך בכלל אפשר לתת

משמעות חדשה לצילומים שלנו ומייד הבנתי שזה בדיוק הדבר והאתגר שאני צריכה בימים אלה-אני צריכה לארח את המסיבה !!! שלא נדבר על התאריך המגניב -השישי לשישי ביום שישי , איך אפשר שלא לערוך מסיבת יצירה בתאריך שכזה ?! :) בזה הרגע החלטתי לפתוח את חצר ביתי בגשר הזיו ליוצרות המוכשרות של ארצינו הקטנטונת והנה כמעט חודש וחצי אחרי, המסיבה ממש כבר כאן

כמובן מייד התחלתי לחשוב כיצד אני הייתי נותנת משמעות חדשה לאחת התמונות שלי ומאחר ואני בחורה של בדים והדפסים, החלטתי ללכת לכיוון שקרוב לליבי -מונופרינט

אז לקחתי לי צילום מהחתונה ותרגמתי אותו לקנבס בסגנון פופ ארט

אז הנה הטייק שלי למתן משמעות חדשה לתמונה - אני יצאתי מרוצה :)

כמה ימים לאחר ההכרזה גם אטסי סיפקו לנו למארחים את הטייק שלהם לאתגר שנתנו והביאו מספר

דוגמאות והבהרות לגבי הנושא ובכלל למה התכוון המשורר שלהם

.אטסי לקחו את האתגר לכיוון רקמה! ולא סתם רקמה, הם רקמו ממש על התמונה עצמה
ואאאוווו!! זה רעיון מדליק אמרתי לעצמי, אבל אני יש לי סריטה קלה ועל תמונות אמיתיות שלי אני לא רוקמת , פשוט לא מסוגלת להזיז את האצבעות ו"להרוס" תמונה ,אבל אני רוקמת גם רוקמת על רפרודוקציות או על בד

-אז כמובן עשיתי לעצמי גם גרסה של מתן משמעות חדשה לצילום בעזרת רקמה והנה לכם התוצאה

Challenge - Collage something you recycled

OMGosh...Am I LOVING this Documented Life challenge or am I LOVING this challenge :)

Yep, loving it!!!!

This week was just at my alley !!!! One of the things I do best is upcycling ...

And this challenge couldn't come in a better time either-

I'm just returning from a HUGE lifestyle and DIY event that took place in Tel Aviv ,teaching Swimsuit Designing & Drafting masterclass at,and if I wouldn't collect lots of cool memorabilia ,it would have been a total failure from my behave ...

But don't worry,I did and this challenge was just perfect for smaching it all on a page of my journal

So,while staying in Tel Aviv for the event weekend,me and the hubs came across this AWESOME restaurant called "Pua" .

It's a really great place to eat in !!! The food was delish and the ambiance is amazing!!
All the furniture in the place is collected from the flea market and everything in it is up for sale-how cool is that?! So if you by chance passing Jaffa's flea market, the restaurant is located in an alley of the market itself .

And the cherry on top is that they will wrap your take out in a super cool doggie bag!!!!

They upcycle old newspaper from India ,to make a paper bag for your leftovers !!!

That been said,of course I kept the bag and this would be the base of my week 9 layout

And I even didn't took it apart ,instead I just folded it as it was originally before the food came in ,and the fold became my pocket

To decorate the front I left the original take-out sticker the restaurant put on the doggie bag,cause I actually LOVED the graphic design of the little vintage girl

Not to leave the girlie alone and sad as is,I gave her some robot friends :)

The right one is a work of art by Tal Tenne Czaczkes -a great Israeli artist, a really nice and vibrant lady in person and one of the teachers from the masterclasses of the Craft Delly event.

The bottom lady robot was a clothes tag from Castro Kids I kept,cause it's so frickn cute

If you look on the bottom half of my layout,you'll find the promotional postcard from the Delly event itself (the black one) and on the right side ,another beautiful promo Art postcard from a fellow artist and teacher who had teach a masterclass at the event ,named Hagit Azoulay Rosanes -a super talented artist as you may see

The "Made in Tel Aviv" thingy in the middle of the layout,is a receipt from a super cool shop in the "Hatachana" compound in Tel Aviv (where the Craft Delly event took place) in which lots of designed memorabilia about Tel Aviv and it's glory been sold

Finally I added some bits of washi and Ta Da, my recycled layout is complete :)

Since I loved the concept of this week's challenge so much ,I decided to capture the process of "making of " and make a video for you ,my crafty peeps.

Challenge- Add a flap to your flap

My original tip in was Gelli print and handdrawn Doodled flowers on top

I really liked the original print and had mental difficulties covering it up with opaque media,so I decided to go with collaged Mylar sheet as my flap on flap

The decision of going with Alice in Wonderland theme was a mix of practical and intuitive

I had this shadow box I previously made as part of Xyron projects,which I never really used for anything-it was pretty and all,but something in it was just not enough for me to display it,yet I had hard time to discard it (as usual) ...so it laid in the dark collecting dust for a while ,till this flap challenge here

For the practical, what I did was basically taking the whole thing apart and reassemble the same concept on the mylar,but this time I decided to colour these beautiful illustrations

After I glued the characters on the mylar,I coloured the inlines of some of the yet remaining visible flowers underneath ,but the colour went ONLY on the transparent sheet.
So when you look at the overall picture ,the flowers have super vivid tones,yet when the mylar sheet is raised,a totally different picture is revealed -like real Wonderland in my own journal

Find yourself a large round object to make a circle template from

מצאו פריט גדול ועגול שיעזור לכם לצייר את שבלונת העיגול של השטיח המיועד

גלגל אופניים כשבלונה של עיגול Bicycle wheel for drawing the circle

Draw the circle and fill it with the paint colour of your choice -I went with the green of my studio door

ציירו את העיגול וצבעו אותו בצבע שבחרתם- אני בחרתי בירקרק הזה כדי להתאים לצבע של הדלת כניסה לסטודיו

Wait for it to dry and then move on to decorate it with anything you fancy-I like the zentangle doodled flowers,so this is what I drew

חכו לייבוש מלא של הצבע ואז ציירו את מה שציפור נפשכם חפצה בו-אני אוהבת את השרבוטי פרחים בסגנון הְזֶנְטָאנְגֵל אז זו הדרך שבחרתי לקשט בה את השטיח המצוייר שלי

I used Sharpies for the outline and Shiva Oil Paint sticks to color inside
השתמשתי בטושים של שארפי כדי לצייר את הקווי מתאר וצבעי שמן בצורת גירים של חברת שִבַה כדי לצבוע בפנים

אתחיל בתמונה של הסטודיו שלי כפי שהוא נראה כשרק עברתי אליו-לא מראה מלבב בלשון המעטה, ואסיים בצילומים של תהליך העבודה ואיך הסטודיו נראה כיום

Dark stained wood panels on the ceiling

תיקרת קורות עץ בצבע כהה

Two walls covered in wood panelling but in a totally different light wood as if they run out of the wood stain in the middle of the job

קירות מצופים באותם הפנלים אבל בצבע שונה לגמרי -היה נראה כאילו נגמר להם הבייץ באמצע עבודת ההכתמה

Super cheap laminate floorboards ...

רצפת למינציה באיכות כל כך גרועה שחלק מהמפנלים היו מקולפים וראו את המ.ד.פ דרכם

Other two walls were fine-just a simple cream toned plasterboard and concrete.
The studio does has great big windows that bring so much sun and light in ,that it almost compensated for the temporary ugliness

שאר הקירות היו "בסדר" -קיר גבס צבוע בצבע קרם ובצמוד עליו קיר בטון

נקודת האור בחדרון המכוער הזה היא החלונות !!! הם מכניסים כל כך הרבה שמש ואור דרכם,שזה כמעט פיצה על
הזוועה הכללית

First thing I did was to paint the ceiling in a mellow shade of cream and emphasised the cool beams with distressed Shabby looking white

דבר ראשון שעשיתי בחדר היה לצבוע את התקרה בצבע קרם צהבהב ואת הקורות בלבן משופשף כדי להקנות לחדרר מלאה שאבי שיק הכל כך אהוב עלי

Next followed ALL the upper wood paneling on the walls which I painted in the same cream
לאחר התיקרה הגיע תורם של הפנלים העליונים של הקירות,אשר נצבעו באותו הגוון כמו התקרה

My vintage Nevco 'Days of the Week' cutting boards אוסף קרשי חיתוך וינטאג'ים

I did the same trick with distressed white for all the wood near the windows.

The bottom wood boards were painted in egg shale white

כל הקורות האנכיים בסטודיו נצבעו באותה שיטת הדיסטרססינג כמו קורות תיקרה

הפנלים מתחת לחלונות נצבעו בצבע לבן "מלוכלך" .לצערי,אין לי את מספרי הצבעים לתת לכן, מאחר וכל הצבעים פרט לטורקיז שמציץ בתמונות, מצאתי ליד הפח -השכנה עשתה שיפוץ וזרקה המון דליים של שאריות צבע , אשר כמובן אימצתי מכל הלב

All the cream walls in the studio were painted in bright turquoise

הקירות הקרמים ,המשעממים נצבעו בטורקיז חיי ובועט

And the floor was painted white

והרצפה נצבעה בלבן

To tell you the truth, I haven't planned on making the floorboards in this current distressed look, this was done thanks to our cleaning friend I-Robot,which scraped the newly painted floor while cleaning it :D

Add colour to your FLOORS

In my last post I've talked about simple ways to add colour to your walls,today I want to talk about adding colour to your floors!

We all know the most easy way of adding colour to our floors-putting a carpen on .
This is no doubt the most popular way -you buy a rag in the colour of your scheme ,place it on it's place, and when you get bored of it,just buy a new one and -ta da a new fresh look

But don't you agree with me, that this is the coward's way of introducing colour when there so many other alternative options these days...!
I want to show you a couple of new ways of adding colour to the ground you step on and I'll start with colourful tiles...
O.K, so we all had or saw these horrible 70's tiles around some of the old houses at one point or another...These were a total eyes confusing, brain shockers and let's be honest, plain ugly.
But what if I'll tell you, you can use these same shockers in a totally FAB and sophisticated way, by just laying them as an area rug in your living space

A cool example will be this amazing vintage tiles here -
This is actually a photography of vintage hand painted tiles from an old house in Tel Aviv,Yaffo
I LOVE the look of the old tiles peaking out under a layer of concrete which obviously ones completely covered this beauty

And how about this modern take on the vintage tiles-

Now days you can even print your own designs on the tile-that is an amazing option for the artist in you,to decorate your floors with your own art right !

This brings me to the second media one can choose to design his/her boring floors -PAINT on them by yourself!!!

Be aware these images are NOT for cowards :D

(and yes,I know you can paint on your own plain rug,but it wouldn't be the same :P )

There are loads of samples on the web and Pinterest for painted floorboard , I want to show you my own creation rather than showing you others :)
Though I do have a HUGE stunning handwoven rug in my own bedroom ,I don't take pride in it as much as I do of my hand painted rug in my studio

And to make sure you do believe this is a floor drawing ,here is a proof beneath :)

my wedding shoes ,which I worn only ones and since for almost 9 years are on the shelf , look great on the rug

לפני קצת יותר מחודש ,יצרה איתי קשר בחורה כשרונית ,יזמית וגורו "עשה זאת בעצמך" המוכרת בשמי ישראל כדנה ישראלי וביחד התחלנו מסע מרתק של פיתוח סדנה מיוחדת לקראת אירוע מעדניית הסדנאות 2

חודש שלם התלבטנו וחיפשנו רעיונות מקוריים שאוכל להעביר בסדנה משלי ,בסגנון המיוחד שלי, משהו שהוא "אני" ושאוכל ללמד את בנות ארצינו היצירתיות לעשות -מוצר מגניב ומקורי, אחד כזה שתרם נראה במדינתינו הקטנטונת

אז חשבנו וחשבו ולבסוף לאחר שדנה ראתה את הכובעי חיות שאני מעצבת לחנות שלי באטסי , לא היו לה עוד

התלבטויות-היא רצתה לראות באחת הסדנאות במעדנייה את הכובעים שלי
אז פיתחנו סדנה שתפורה לתקופה בה אנחנו נמצאים-קצת לפני פורים והחלטנו ללכת על תחפושות

והנה חודש אחרי, הרעיון נשא פרי- הפרוטוטייפים מוכנים ואני חייבת לומר שהמוצרים יצאו כל כך מדליקים שאני ממש מתרגשת

לפני שבוע יצאנו ליום צילומים לצלם את התוצרים במתחם התחנה שבתל אביב,יפו -
מקום קסום ומיוחד שבו גם יתנהלו הסדנאות

חויית הצילומים היא תמיד כיפית בשבילי וזו לא הייתה אחרת-מפגש עם 14 מוכשרות בתחום היצירה וכל אחת היא אשה מיוחדת במינה גם בלי קשר לכישוריה-מה יכול להיות לא כיף בזה

אז קצת פטפטנו והצטלמנו ובעיקר נהננו ולי היה כיף כיפליים , כי שילבי הצטרפה אלי ליום הצילומים וצילמנו עליה את התוצרים שלי

Just a tad more than a month ago,I got contacted by a VERY talented lady- Dana Israeli, who is a great entrepreneur and DIY celebrity with a fabulous offer-to develop a unique product for an upcoming DIY festival named "The Craft Deli 2"

After a month of deliberation and idea seeking of a product I can develop and teach to others which has "my original style" and "vibe" to it and after Dana saw my 3D Animal Hats ,we finally agreed on a concept for my DIY Master Class of UNIQUE Animal Costumes for Purim (Israeli Halloween ) making

And so today, one month later ,the prototypes are ready and I must say they turned out so well I fell in love with them :)

A week ago we went to a photoshoot of my designed costumes which took place in a beautiful historic/restored Train Station in Tel Aviv,Yaffo -the place where the Master Classes will take place

I love photoshoots and this one wasn't an exception- I got to meet up with 14 extremely talented ladies which are great as a whole package even without counting their extraordinary abilities

The time flew by very fast talking,mingling and taking shoots and I had double the fun cause Sheluvi came with me and we took photos of my designs on her as well.

Yesterday at noon ,the registration to the Master Classes has began and the buzz is great!

So I hope to see you there and have the chance to teach you how to make one of my hats-cause there is nothing cooler than a truly original costume you made with your own 10 fingers!

And the neat thing is, you don't even need to have sewing skills to learn how to make one of the costumes ,since I developed a seam free technique especially for YOU ,so now anyone can join

Challenge: Open your Pinterest board and be inspired
I call it "Bird Story"
I did this one on a whim - while making screenprint of two birds for one of my hand bound book covers ,I decided to print the same birdies on a Gelli Print I had laying around (the screen was already flooded with too much paint and it was a waste to waste it ) .
When I printed it ,I didn't have any artist in mind ,but looking backwards I guess ,the influence came from the talented Genin whose work I adore !!
I haven't looked on her work to be inspired by per se ,but following her here on FB, must have triggered my artistic sciences

The Documented Life Project - Week 3 -Junk Mail Challenge

January 12 Challenge (Week Three) - Add an envelope from your mailbox. Get creative and add the whole envelope or parts of the envelope. Journal on it, write notes on it or use it as a pocket!

Made this entry as a spread -half of it on the actual planner the other half as an envelope tip in.
The doodled characters were drawn in a car ,on a road trip to Tel Aviv :)

The front of the envelope was decoupaged with decorative cardstock and pieces of my Gelli prints, stamped with a cute birdie and a bicycle stamps by Imaginisce and has an inspirational quote I like

Envelope's reverse side was Gelli Printed and a doodled dude was added-he is in love ;)

The subject of his love was drawn on the planner's page

For some unknown reason ,I drew the 20's looking lady pregnant...
Not to stress my hubby much in case and he sees this page spread,( no dear,I'm NOT pregnant)
I added a 'LOVE' sticker onto her belly to give this all a deeper meaning...

Week 2 Challenge for Documented Life Project- SELFY

The Documented Life Project - Jan 5th (Week Two) Challenge

Say Cheese!!! This week's challenge is to incorporate a selfie into your planner. This can be done as simply as snapping a photo with your phone, printing it out and adding to your planner. Don't want to add your sweet face to your planner? No worries, why not sketch or paint a likeness? Can't sketch or paint? No worries, consider using words to describe yourself and add those to your planner. Not into the selfie scene? This challenge is optional!

My SELFY -I call it חייה בסרט *

Thought ,I would kill for legs that long,actually it's just a fashion illustration which represent me the best these days- I'm a Fashion and Accessory designer
I do wear my hair like this-LOVE Victorian Rolls

Actually,I don't like stars-that's just what my washi says about me
But I do live my life in a different dimension (in Hebrew we call it "חייה בסרט" * "Haya be-Seret" which literally means " lives in a movie" but in English it will better translates as "Lives in a Wonderland " -Yep,that's ME -that's why my washi is trashing me lol

I AM wicked -that's what my Mom says about me and I know for sure my mother in law DEF telling people I'm a witch

The Anchor is to represent my Daddy-one of the loves of my life -seriously,I LOVE my Dad to pieces and wanted him to be in my selfy!!

The lipgloss represents the very first thing I've learned after graduation high school -I went to study to be a Make Up Artist, but haven't practiced it but on myself and the models I shoot for my collections

The tiny words near my photos telling about me being a free spirit girl-I'm a sagittarius ,so I'm always up for a good adventure ,thus the words "bags & fun "

And lastly, my photo goofing around with my loved ones -hubby and my girls (it's an old photo taken about 2.5 years ago But I still look the same and my printer played a trick on me and stopped working right after I bought new cartridges for him (what an unappreciative printer he is....)
Anyway,couldn't print an up-to-date photo of me ,BUT I actually really happy with this one as it's so much ME without the posing and fakeness ,you know

I just LOVE this project-it's like a free therapy lol

The Documented Life Project - Jan 1 (Week One) Challenge

guidelines :

photograph, sketch, paint or incorporate your front door- "As the door opens on our new year, we all share the bond of having an entry into our home, our lives, ourselves.
Through the artistic medium of your choice, show us a bit of where you live in the symbol of your door, entryway or porch. Think a bit about how you can use your door to express your personality, your life, what you value."

Here is my door
Mixed Media-
Gelli printed wood grain background in water colour scheme -cause it's the year of the Wooden Horse and water nurtures wood .
Doodled front door
Hand written business blessing (Hebrew) -cause my planner will be all about attracting/bringing in a good luck and fortune for my business )
Some additional Feng Shui symbols as the Lucky Bamboo and Double Happiness Sign.

And of course a little Mezuzah doodle with the 3 Hebrew letters " שדי" that represent the words "Keep Israel Doors Safe" ,to keep my family safe and blessed as well
