Is 5G Technology Available Now in the Philippines?

2014-09-08T11:08:00.001-07:00

Well the clear answer to that is not yet. We might be seeing an improved 4G service but we are still far away from the real 5G technology. Just today, Huawei, a Chinese communications equipment manufacturer has announced that they are starting to fund a 5G development project which will be available to consumers by 2020.

"Mr. Wen Tong, the official representative of Huawei Technologies, said that according to their calculations there will be more than a billion connections around the whole world by 2020, and 5G technology may provide massive connectivity to speed it up."

The 5G technology will provide a fibre network like user experience for the common people on a wireless network connection. The fact that it can deliver speed of 10 Gbps, which is more than 100 times faster than the current mobile technologies today.

Earlier, South Korean giant Samsung has tested 5G successfully, which is ready for commercial roll-out by 2020. Now Huawei has joined the list too by announcing its own plan of action towards this advanced connectivity technology.

Meanwhile, Nokia is likewise preparing its 5G test network in North Finland.

"We are evaluating the possibility of participating in a 5G test bed in Oulu, focusing among other things on LTE evolution," Lauri Oksanen, VP of technology and research at Nokia Networks, said.

Possible Nokia 5G Test Site in Oulu, Finland.

"Although 5G research is well under way, 5G is not yet defined or standardized and will become available only in the next decade (from 2020). However, it is clear that LTE/LTE-Advanced will be part of 5G."

While the world is busy developing 5G, SMART claims they are rolling-out their 5G Technology here in the Philippines. It is clear from the Chinese equipment developer that they are still developing 5G and will only be practical by 2020.

Hosting your PHP Webpages with XAMPP and Globe Static IP Address

2014-09-07T02:54:00.003-07:00

Internet Marketers do a great deal online and maintaining squeeze pages is among other things. List building is one of the foundation of an an effective email marketing and a 24/7 online portal is a must. Web hosting for newbies is not an option due to financial reasons and they want to start with the least expense as possible using available resource at home such as a computer and an internet connection.

Students also need to experiment on web servers while they work on their webpage projects at home and let somebody for example a group mate check it on the other end.

In order for a Web server to work, a static IP address is needed and a Web server like Apache which can be easily deployed using XAMPP These packages come with MySQL already built in, PHP, PHPmyAdmin, and a lot more. The best part is they can be deployed with one click of a button and off you go.

Globe Telecoms greatly enhances the experience by providing static IP addresses at a minimal cost of P699/month added to your monthly bill and can be terminated anytime if no longer needed. However, static IP is only available to DSL. Wireless (Wide Area Network) like Wimax and LTE are not viable candidates for an static IP due to it's infrastructure where access points (modems) in a Wide Area has only one IP. So a static IP cannot be assigned to a single access point.

So if you are a starting internet marketer and or a student who needs to host your own Web Server, then Globe's static IP address service is for you.

Know more about Globe's Static IP Address HERE.

Add another layer of security to your business with the Globe CCTV Package

2014-09-06T23:21:00.003-07:00

In today's business setting, the Government requires that every business is equipped with security cameras to enhance its surveillance to criminals. This system is slowly being adapted by all entrepreneurs in the country. It is very alarming that a steady growth of crimes are being committed to businesses all over the country and identifying the culprits puts a hold on any ongoing investigation due to lack of a lead.

Security cameras with recorders costs are high and the roll-out rate for small-medium businesses to add another layer of security to their premises is painstakingly taking longer than usual. A crime might been committed and CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) Systems are still a far away reality.

That's why Globe has created a solution to this, by applying to the CCTV package, business owners no longer burden themselves with buying high priced CCTV equipment and the best thing is it's immediately rolled-out.

CCTV Bundle

The Plan is P2,134 / month for 24 months. Internet speed is up to 5 Mbps. This speed is a requirement if you want to stream videos via the internet for optimum performance. It could either be a DSL or an LTE depending on the available service in the area. This is of course bundled with a Super Home Phone for Wireless with an Unlimited Call Feature to Globe and TM nationwide FREE for 24 months.

This broadband plan is an innovation by putting together proven Globe premium services and Security into a nifty package.

Understanding Globe Broadband Billing System for the New Subscriber

2014-08-02T09:29:00.001-07:00

Latest Globe Plans

The Globe Broadband @Home plans are mainly sold by third party agents Globe calls BBSPs or Broadband Sales Partners. There are numerous agencies scattered all throughout the archipelago who maintains sales agents that peddles daily to houses offering Globe Telecoms broadband packages and I am one of them.

The confusion among subscribers, especially the new ones regarding their bill, arises from the agent's failure to fully discuss the specifics of the product they are selling especially billing. Globe's directive regarding this matter is very strict and it should be complied for by any agent who represents Globe Telecoms to fully disclose the billing system. Agents who are on the rush to earn a commission from the sale they make may forget to fully discuss the most important subject, the Bill.

So to make things clear, I will discuss one specific plan, in this case Plan 1099 whether LTE or Wimax.

PLAN SPECIFICS:

Speed 2 Mbps
Bundled with SHP (Super Home Phone)
Has Free Wifi (Built-In / TP Link)
Includes FREE antenna
Upfront Payment (1 MSF + 200 SHP Activation Fee)

CHARGES:

MSF (Monthly Service Fee) paid in advance (P1,099)
Installation Fee P,1000.00 (paid in 3 monthly installments at P333.33/mo on top of the Bill)
Super Home Phone Activation Fee is 1200. (P200 paid in advance the rest in 5 monthly installments of P200)

To Sum-Up:

Bill for the first 3 months:

MSF : P1,099.00
Installation Fee :P 333.00
SHP : P 200.00
========
       Sub Total P 1632.00 + VAT

The Upfront payment paid during installation is credited on the second month, so the first bill will only arrive by the second month, a combined 1st and 2nd Bill.

Bill for the last 4 and 5 Months

MSF : P1,099.00
Installation Fee :P
SHP : P 200.00
========
       Sub Total P 1299.00 + VAT

Bill starting from the 6th to the 24th month : P 1,099 + VAT

With the simple calculations presented above, I hope this satisfies the questions every new subscriber have with regards to their bill. More concerns? please call 211 on your Globe mobile phone.

Globe 4G LTE Features, Updated Plans and Product Catalog

2014-08-01T10:51:00.000-07:00

Globe Latest Flyer

To beat the stiff competition, Globe Telecoms updated its 4G LTE, Wimax and DSL Plans to stay at the edge. Strategies like this brought a steady stream of customers to the Globe @Home Broadband segment with a conversion rate of more than 10 subscribers per day (in Ilocos Norte), so saturation is very close. Sarrat, Solsona and Dingras Nodes are already close to being fully utilized but the clamor for more lines is obvious.

What could be the reason why so many people seemed to like Globe Broadband in general? Maybe, Globe's superior service and performance, price and functionality could be the primary factor considered by clients in contrast with the other service providers.

The addition of a Super Home Phone (also a landline phone) that boasts FREE UNLIMITED calls to Globe/TM Network nationwide attracted businesses and home makers alike to avail of the service. The SHP unit is a Huawei FC312e, basically a mobile phone with a SIM card. But this SIM card is assigned with 2 numbers. A landline number and a Globe mobile phone number.

Huawei FC312e

The modem, also a Huawei, is a perfect match for the SHP. This modem is a top of the line equipment. It is solidly built and designed to last a long time. This modem has several LAN ports at it's back that could accomodate four desktops at once, while providing internet connectivity to other home and mobile devices by it's built-in WiFi.

Globe Wimax Bundle Plan 1,299 with Free UNLI-CALL to Globe and TM Review

2013-04-06T06:04:00.000-07:00

As "Project Rain Fire" comes to an end by April 10, 2013, I have seen a lot of of other network subscribers trying to terminate their current subscriptions just to experience what Globe Telecom subscribers are enjoying.

However, most would be switchers are hindered by their lock-in periods. So what's the hype about the Globe's Project Rain Fire? As Globe is doing it's coun
try-wide infrastructure upgrades, more and more places are being covered such as Dingras, Currimao, Pagudpud, Sarrat, Solsona here in Ilocos Norte just to name a few. These places never experienced 4G although they are already 3G covered. But what makes this offer so unresistable?

Since not most of the would be switchers were not able to subscribe, here is a brief review of the Globe Tattoo@Home Wimax Bundle Promo. There are two Plan options Plan P1,099 and Plan 1,299 both of them are loaded with FREE unlimited calls to Globe and TM mobiles. The only difference is the bandwidth. The latter (Plan 1,299) comes with 2Mbps bandwidth while Plan 1,099 is only 1 Mbps.

After a 24 hour activation period for the UNLI-CALL feature, I had the chance to call as many friends as I could located anywhere in the country. I started with friends in my hometown until I reached a friend who is from Davao City. For every call I made, a minimum of 30 minutes each except the Davao call which lasted for hours until my friend ran out of batteries. The call quality was superb, no noise, no static whatsoever was observed during my calls. It was actually very clear and loud! Just the UNLI-CALL alone, I could say that I am willing to pay for this meager amount for the quality service.

The DATA service (Internet) is also very stable. There are only a few occasions when speeds drop due to the ongoing upgrades but only on short durations. During peak hours, the speed is still within the specified range which very much favorable to online marketers like me and as well as those with online businesses.

So why settle for less when you can have the best from a very stable network. If you would like to subscribe before the deadline ends on April 10, call the following number right now. You can reach me at 09179656526.

Project Overlord, Speed Up When You Need It!

2012-07-15T06:29:00.000-07:00

It's been quite sometime since my last post and this time I' gonna say something about Project Overlord. This is just a short one, so bear with with me.

Speed Boost is an option where customers choose the usual time they do their stuff on the internet. The Speed Boost option or 'Add-On" is categorized into three (3) time frames daily. For example, DAY is from 10am to 2pm, NIGHT is 10 am to 2 am and INSOMNIAC is from 2 am to 6 am. These three time frames is what we call Speed Boost Option.

Project Overlord on the other hand is a protocol that defines how Speed Boost is incorporated into new subscriptions. Having said that, this is where customers choose what Speed Boost they would want to avail and test it out for 1 month FREE. The Add-On can be terminated at any time before the end of the billing cycle to avoid additional charges.

This is a good avenue for clients wanting to double their internet speed to test out and opt-in when they find it working well in their area. This can always be cancelled anytime when no noticeable increase in internet speed is experienced.

Moreover, there is an additional fee to be charged on-top of the clients base plan i.e. Pan 799 -1299 depending on the Speed Boost availed. For DAY an additional P250 is charged, NIGHT is P200 and INSOMNIAC is P150. For Plan 2299 - 2999, P200, P150, and 100 is added on top of the base plan respectively.

Brgy. Cadaratan A Wimax Dead Zone? An Aerial Survery Proves It

2012-07-08T03:28:00.000-07:00

I've been quite cynical about an area which I believe is fully covered by Globe Wimax in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte. The barangay in question is Brgy. Cadaratan. This barangay is located along the Philippine National Highway and is largely surrounded by farmlands. No apparent obstruction can be immediately noticed in this area.

Brgy. Cadaratan is one of my regular market routes and have had successful Wimax Installations until an applicant who's house is located in this what they call a dead zone. To my surprise, full attenuation! Not even a slight indication that a signal could be detected in this zone. It left me wondering why until I consulted Google Maps and here's what I've found.

RF Signal Abberant to Cadaratan

The hill located between Barangay Cabusligan (Sitio Bangsirit) and Pasngal can be hardly qualified as an aberrant to my estimates. The hill seems really low profile to consider it a blockage between the node which is located south of of the Pasngal Hill and Brgy. Cadaratan to the North. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the hill is really a low profile one however, it is covered with towering trees with thick leaves that really blankets Microwave signals from the node.

The Hill Taken from the Highway

This image is taken from the highway near Barangay Cadaratan. Those towering trees stands at around 72 feet from the ground. Houses below the trees are dwarfed by the trees on top of the hill. Looking at the tiny houses below the hill convinced me that it is indeed a "dead zone" beyond the hill.

Globe Tattoo@Home DSL Gets Even Cheaper!

2012-07-08T01:19:00.000-07:00

To some the P500 increase to Globe DSL installation fee making it P1,000 has some sugar coating they say. Well, sugar coat or not here is the deal.

Applications for DSL until the end of July will receive 10% discout on their monthly bill for 5 months! On the sixth month, regular bill will be charged.

You save a minimum of P500 (Plan 999) during the duration of your contract or lock-in period. So what's stopping you to apply?

A Globe Wimax for Every Home, Project Beyond is Here Once More

2012-07-06T21:56:00.000-07:00

Applicants in areas no longer covered by the GEMS map can no longer avail of Globe WIMAX. This limitation was put in effect last year and is still effective. Due to the growing demand for Globe WIMAX service in uncovered areas, Mr. Stephen Palma Territory Sales Head (TSH) of Globe Broadband North Luzon brought the issue to the attention of Mr. Law, Area Sales Head (ASH) for Globe Broadband North Luzon during the monthly MOR's in Baguio City.

The resulting conference approved a project we call Project Beyond. This ongoing project for the month of July extends the 1Km coverage area in several qualified areas in Ilocos Norte to 2 Km aerial distance from the nodes in the following areas: Bacarra, Batac City and Badoc.

If your prior application was refused before maybe this is the right time to apply once more. The duration of the project might be a month only so why not apply today. Call me and I'll gladly take that call.

Globe Telecoms Node at Bacarra, Ilocos Norte Under Stress

2012-07-05T23:35:00.002-07:00

BACARRQ

For over two weeks now, Internet connectivity has become intermittent especially in areas outside the guaranteed 2 kilometer radius coverage area. Old subscribers prior to the implementation of the GEMS Map or serviceable areas are at risk due to lack of service support extended to them due to newly implemented service coverage area.

During the two week period until now, I have noticed on several occasions an entire sector go down unexpectedly. A node (Globe Tower) is divided into three sectors. Now Wimax connections in certain areas are connected to one sector and any sector going down stresses the system further as the modems connect to another sector. If this happens, currently connected wimax modems abruptly disconnects to give way to the incoming connections from the other sectors.

I asked Ms. Jenny of AGM Ilocos Norte as to service request and she informed me that Bacarra has the most service/repair request during the said two-week period. Is this indicative of a node under stress due to the influx of new internet subscribers daily? Well maybe yes, or no.

A competing Network can no longer give the service it promises to its subscribers. It can be safely said because as an agent, I have first hand experience dealing with clients wanting to get rid of their current subscriptions if not for the two-year lock-in period due to reasons of dissatisfaction. I say an influx because Globe Facility Reservations averages to 5 subscribers daily province wide. These are new subscribers waiting for their turn to be installed a globe wimax/dsl connection.

Another consideration would be Node deterioration due to aging. Everything has an end, and that gradually happens over time. Maybe a capacity upgrade is needed to accommodate new installations or replace failing node electronic equipments.

Do your share, call 211 as often as your internet connection fails. Report any strange modem or internet connectivity behavior immediately to alert Globe Telecom to act immediately to this impending disaster.

Your comments are welcome, positive or negative. Just avoid flaming.
