With Friday's release of the iPad 2, Apple is pulling further ahead, with improvements that make an already excellent tablet even more enticing. It goes to show that when it comes to tablets, Apple refuses to be bested.

The new iPad is skinnier, faster and slightly lighter. It comes with cameras for video chatting and snapping photos, while keeping the same prices, ranging from $499 to $829 depending on the configuration.

Competitors such as Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co. sell good tablets of their own, with many of the same features. Motorola's new Xoom even has a higher-resolution screen than the iPad. Still, nobody has been able to match the iPad's simplicity, innovation and style.

The iPad 2 looks much like the first iPad, though it has a sleeker, lighter body with a curved back. All this helps the tablet fit more naturally in my hands, and the modified shape makes it easier to hold for extended e-reading sessions, for example.

Among the most noticeable changes is the inclusion of cameras, one on the front and one on the back.
This is something I've been hankering for, as the iPad's crisp display, measuring 9.7 inches diagonally, seemed like the ideal canvas for video chat. The subsequent arrival of several tablets with front and rear cameras made it practically a necessity for iPad 2.

Fortunately, Apple thought so, too. Both cameras on the iPad 2 work with the company's FaceTime video chat application and the back camera shoots high-definition videos.

A friend I chatted with over FaceTime moved pretty smoothly on the iPad's screen, though the image could have been much sharper. With the front camera, my friend could see me. If I switched to the back camera, I could show him my surroundings.

You can take still photos, too, though I found this awkward given the tablet's size. The results were not fantastic, but self-portrait fans will find the front-facing camera useful for composing new profile photos for Facebook.

The new iPad has Apple's new dual-core A5 chip, which helped applications open more quickly than on the older iPad. The original never felt slow, but the faster I can start a new game of "Plants vs. Zombies," the better.

Add to that a new version of Apple's iOS software. The new processor and the new iOS combined to improve Web surfing, as I could load up pages noticeably faster over my home Wi-Fi network. As expected, videos loaded quickly and generally streamed flawlessly.

The new software allows you to share music and videos from your iTunes library on multiple Apple devices on the same Wi-Fi network. And it now lets you set the iPad's mute switch to function as a screen lock, which makes it even easier to prevent my Netflix movie from rotating mid-scene just because I've shifted my butt on the couch.

The updated iOS comes with iPad 2 and is available as a free download for the original iPad and the two most recent models of the iPhone and iPod Touch.

On Friday, Apple is also rolling out iPad versions of its iMovie video-editing software and GarageBand software for recording and editing music. I tried GarageBand ($5) and was wowed by how simple it was and how well it took advantage of the iPad's touch screen.

If you're musically inclined, you can pick up your guitar and adjust its sound through GarageBand's bevy of amplifiers and effects pedals. If you don't play an instrument (or feel lazy), you can swipe through a list of "smart" virtual instruments. A guitar with preset chords lets you strum by swiping the screen. You can arrange drums on a grid based on how noisy and complicated you want the beat to sound.

The coolest part is how sensitive the virtual instruments are. Start beating your fingers on a virtual drum kit, and you can hit the drums and cymbals harder or softer. You'll get different sounds if you hit the ride cymbal in different places, and you can even tap the rim of the snare instead of just hitting the drum itself.

It's quick and easy to record and edit songs, then save or e-mail them to a friend (who will hopefully applaud your artistic endeavors).

When playing back my musical masterpiece and other content on the iPad 2 I did long for a second speaker there is just one on its back. Fortunately, that lone speaker did sound quite crisp, even with the sound turned all the way up.

Like the first iPad, the iPad 2 is rated for up to 10 hours of battery life, and it performed like a champ. Playing a mix of videos streamed from YouTube over Wi-Fi and saved on the iPad itself, I got a bit more than 10 hours of entertainment before it died.

You can buy versions that work with either AT&T's or Verizon Wireless' cellular network, rather than just AT&T before. The cheapest model connects only through Wi-Fi. You can also get it in black or white before, your only option was black.

Without question, the iPad 2 is a great tablet. Still, this doesn't mean the first iPad is ready for the trash can. It's still a stellar gadget, and now it's cheaper (while supplies last) with the arrival of a successor.

Should you feel the urge to have the latest and greatest, however, go for it. Chances are, it will be the best tablet in town at least until the iPad 3 arrives.

Hp Notebook Com Review

The trackball, on-the-go Wi-Fi connectivity and lightweight yet efficient Opera Mini browser are its strong selling points. The QWERTY keypad and solid build quality add to the justification of a business smartphone. At a price point of Rs. 7,999, it makes a decent buy. However, if you are a cameraphone fanatic, you would be disappointed with the ordinary video camera.

Pros

Ergonomic QWERTY keypad

Trackball navigation control

Solid build quality

Cons

Lacks 3G and GPS functionality

Quite bulky

No memory card is shipped

Everyone’s been expecting the mandatory annual refresh of Apples iPods. This has become somewhat of a ritual, and although welcome, we’ve also learned to cringe every time some new feature gets unlocked in the accompanying software update, and doesn’t work on older iPods. Case in point - the iPod Touch 1st generation that cannot avail the goodness of iOS 4. Then, there were the previous versions i.e. iOS 2 and 3, that older generation Touch owners had to pay to use. This is Apples' way of gently reminding you to upgrade at first, and then politely leaving you with (progressively) fewer options.

The mandatory press image.
Such are the pitfalls of a closed system when device, software and accompaniments are designed under one roof. However, there are advantages too. More control has its pros - better integration, fine tuning and of course more control over ironing out potential issues. This brings us to the device we’re looking at - the iPod Touch, now in its fourth avatar. This is more than a gentle refresh, and Apple has ensured the new Touch is more loaded than ever. For the sake of simplicity, we’re going to refer to the iPod Touch 4G as simply 4G hereon.
Look and feel

The new Touch is quite stunning. But then, wouldn’t you expect it to be, over four iterations? The advancement in design is obvious. The new Pod is sleek and slim and looks stunning, even with the screen off. The facia looks like one plane of black glass – very stylish. Flip her over, and the rear doesn’t get the chic finish of the iPhone, instead, the scratch-prone chrome surface persists. Both the 3.5mm jack, and the charger slot now have a slight taper to their periphery, meaning part of the charger and the earphone plug, are visible from the rear, as is a single loudspeaker unit, with a neat, recessed chrome grille. The fit of these jacks seem snug, so no complaints. The sleep button and the volume controls have been mounted on the curve portion of the sides, and they’ve also been made more flush-fit. This leads to them being rather difficult to press, for although the buttons are bevelled, they are hard to press with minimal travel. We like the idea of making things slimmer, more aesthetic and sleek, but we find this a slight detract from the experience, since older Pods didn’t have this problem, and button intutiveness and comfort should always be given highest priority by designers, in our opinion, of course. Do you agree?
The menu button also feels tackier, with a hard “tick” sound when pressed. It’s also harder than previous Pods, and lacks the buttery, soft feedback that we love and have gotten accustomed to. There are two cameras on the 4G. Both these can be switched between, with a simple on-screen option when the camera is activated. The front camera is a VGA one, whereas the rear one supports a still resolution of 960 x 720 pixels, or video recording at 720i i.e. 1280 x 720 pixels. This is far from the goodness of the iPhone 4.0s five-megapixel clicker. But at least, the feature is there, however cursory its functionality.

Kodak PlaySport Jx3

If you are looking for a camcorder have a look at the PlaySport at some mall or shop before you buy any other brand.

Rs.1276

Rs.1276

<a href="#"class="tooltip" title="See all buying  opions">

Amazon etc..
-->

The Kodak PlaySport Jx3 is a compact camcorder capable of recording HD videos at 1080p. The stylish looking PlaySport comes with a 5 megapixel CMOS sensor for video quality better than point and shoot cameras. It is simple to use and does not have many features, so it can be used to record videos without many settings and share with family and friends.

Package Contents:

Kodak PlaySport camcorder

Kodak Li-Ion Rechargeable Battery

Adapter and cable for charging

HDMI and AV cables

Wrist strap

User Guide

Arcsoft Media Impression Software (on-camera)

The quality of cables and adapter is good.

Look and Feel:

Front panel

Back panel

The name PlaySport suits the camcorder as it looks stylish but at the same time is very sturdy. The front panel is clean white and the back panel comes in purple/blue/gray. Weighing at 128g (without battery) the PlaySport feels like a cell phone. It seems the PlaySport can take a few shocks due to accidental falls. It is comfortable to hold for those having medium sized hands as well as large hands.

The on/off switch located on the side is pretty smooth. There are buttons on the front panel for video shooting mode, playback, settings, and delete. There is also a 4 way navigation key with a center button. The buttons are hard but good. However, it is not easy to use the navigation keys as they need to be pressed really hard.

There is a flap with a snap lock for battery and memory card on one side and one for HDMI port and mini USB port on the other side. The flap is pretty sturdy with good hinges. The snap lock is easy to open but closing it might be annoying because of the snap lock system. The package contains a strap which can be attached at the lower end of the camcorder. It is good as you won't have to worry about your camcorder falling from your hands.

The 2-inch screen is small. A lot of space is wasted around the button area which could have been used for a larger screen. The lens at the back is on top left corner and does not have any external cover except a thin glass sheet.

Right side

Left side

Ports

Features:
The PlaySport is waterproof upto 3 metres which lets you shoot underwater. Also you don't have to worry about your camcorder getting wet in the rain or water splashing on it.

The Playsport has a 5 megapixel lens for still photos as well as video recording. The PlaySport records videos at 1080p at 30fps. There is an option to choose lower resolution. In one of the modes it can record 720p videos at 60fps. It also features a monoaural microphone for audio recording.

The PlaySport features 4x digital zoom. It also offers electronic image stabilization and face detection. The brightness of screen can be adjusted. It has a HDMI out to connect to a TV. Also there is a mini USB port for data transfer.

The internal memory is 128MB expandable upto 32GB using a SD/SDHC card. There are 3 modes to help recording in various light conditions.

Performance:

The PlaySport captures still photos at 5 megapixel with an aspect ratio of 16:9, which is good for a camcorder. The quality of photos is decent with good lighting. In poor light conditions the image quality is dissapointing. Also in poor light the screen seems to show a bright picture but when captured the photos are darker. Also there is no option to change the resolution. Camcorders like the Playsport are not meant for still photographs so we can't really complain about it.

The Playsport lets you select yhe resolution at which you want to record videos. At 720p you can record at 30/60fps and at 1080p at 30fps. It supports recording at WVGA (848 x 480) at 30fps.The video performance was tested in 3 different conditions as follows:

Bright lighting (Outdoor):
The PlaySport is ideal for shooting outdoors. The quality of video in bright light is very good. The colours are crisp. One thing to keep in mind while using the PlaySport is to move it slowly. If moved fast an evident blur is seen. Also since it has a digital zoom it is advisable to avoid using it as it lowers the picture quality.

Medium lighting (Indoor):
The video quality indoors is not good. Noise is visible in the entire frame. Even at highest resolution the detail is not good. Playsport is not ideal for indoor use.

Low lighting (Indoor with lights off):
We did not expect much from this test but performed it just as an exercise. As expected the video quality is pathetic with noise all over.

Underwater:
Yes we tried using the PlaySport underwater, and it works really well. The sharpness is lost while shooting underwater but you cant expect it to perform like the professional cameras. Video quality is decent and water does not seep into any of the openings so no need to be worried about using it underwater or in moist conditions.
The audio quality is very good. The microphone is sensitive and picks up even low sounds while recording videos.

The compression technique used is not very efficient , a one minute video recorded at 1080p takes up 90MB. Since a SD card is not supplied you will need to buy a 16GB card if you want to record HD video for around 3 hours.

The Playsport is provided with 3 modes for shooting. These modes do not affect the quality of video. It actually affects the screen enabling you to see what you are shooting in various lighting conditions so that you dont have to worry about the glare while shooting outdoors.

The PlaySport has a settings button. The settings menu has icons for various settings and no description as to what it will do. This is very misleading as you do not know what you are doing. A description or at least the name of the icon would have been good.

Conclusion:
The MRP of PlaySport is Rs. 8,999. Kodak currently has an offer on, which retails the PlaySport for Rs 7,999. Also assuming a 16GB card costs aroung Rs. 2,500, the cost of owning the PlaySport shoots up to Rs 10,499. It is good to carry on picnics and treks as it is waterproof and easy to use. The PlaySport Zx3 brings a fresh look to the market of compact camcorders with its features like full HD capability, image stabilization and electronic face detection. If you are looking for a camcorder, have a look at the Kodak PlaySport before you buy any other brand.
Ratings
Features: 7
Performance: 7.5
"We have also won new customers in the durable goods industry such as Bosch Rexroth", he added. German producers of televisions and settop boxes would also soon implement the new generation of Atom-chips - which are designed for use in netbooks and mobile devices. "In 2009 we have basically seen no revenue from that but that will start to change already in 2010," Schwaderer added. Intel's classic business with chips for personal computers and servers will continue to dominate in the immediate future. Last year, business in Germany remained stable thanks to solid demand for laptops, Schwaderer said, adding the consumer division compensated for a decline in corporate business. Schwaderer said he expected Intel's new line of notebooks and desktops to be launched soon in Germany, adding: "We are counting on profitable growth." Intel, based in Santa Clara, California, reported stronger-than-expected fourth-quarter earnings on Thursday and gave a bullish margin outlook on higher prices and firm demand for server chips.

4th Generation iPhone coming this may?

The Nexus One has reportedly sold 20,000 handsets in the first week. Although not exactly labeled a ‘super-phone’ by critics, consumers are buying it to see what the perfectionist company had been up to the last year. Foreseeing a distant danger from the Nexus One, Apple has decided to launch the 4th generation iPhone in May this year. This is a deviation from their standard practice of launching a new iPhone model late June/early July.

The French-language magazine Challenges has reported that the fourth generation iPhone is all set to launch earlier this year. Citing mobile operators, Challenges reports that Apple is taking this step to stop the ever growing market of Android handsets. Apple sees a potential rival in the Nexus One and it believes that the large amount of Android handsets flooding the market can prove to a very attractive alternative. This can hamper Apple’s growth in the market and may even capture some part of its market share. Although iPhone still enjoys the status of ruling the smart phone market, other manufacturers are closing in on the gap with a steady speed- and succeeding to some extent.

From the rumor mills, there comes a report that says Apple has put in a 5 megapixel camera in it’s extremely sleek device and has also introduced an LED flash. Everyone had a good word or two, for it’s 2 megapixel camera, and this 5 MP monster can surely rock the mobile phone market. It also is rumored to have a touch sensitive case much like the Apple’s Mighty Mouse. The ‘Plastic’ covering of the 4G iPhone may be touch sensitive. That is not really a very useful feature when the user can do all the common tasks quite easily on its revolutionary touch screen. Maybe Apple has something up their sleeves and that feature may turn out be a new breakthrough in Gaming or Navigation or Music- Considering Apple’s past records, get ready to be surprised. Apple also seems to be thinking about the addition of an RFID Reader ( Radio-Frequency Identification). It has a range of uses which include the doubling up of iPhone as a payment device by simply swapping it over a payment pad.

The Apple Tablet is all set to shake the tech world from the roots with its unveiling. Apple 4G iPhone has , comparatively , received less attention than the precious versions due to the craze surrounding the tablet. Although the May launch is just a rumor, another rumor says that Apple has scheduled its annual WWDC event for the dates June 28 to July 2. It is also rumored that the WWDC kenote will take place on June 29th, coinciding with the date of the launch of the original iPhone. Apple’s contract with AT&T is also about to end in 2010 which may enable Apple to launch the CDMA version of its popular device. Final reports suggest that Apple will announce the 4th generation iPhone in May and will announce the end of the exclusivity agreement with AT&T at its WWDC keynote.

Either way, the device is all set to release this year, and will compete head-on with Google’s Nexus One. We can only wait and watch who emerges victorious in the mobile market, and also if any dark horse can claim it.

nokia 5230

Smartbooks are smaller than Netbooks, running custom OSes and miniature smartphone processors. With Lenovo coming up with an ARM based smartbook , the market is opening up for the devices.

Skylight is technically an oversized smartphone. The Skylight is powered by 1.8 GHz Snapdragon processor, with built in WiFi and 3G mobile broadband. the advantage of using a low-powered ARM-based chip is long battery life: 10 hours, so Lenovo claims.

Its 10.1-inch HD screen offers 1280 by 720 resolution. Despite of being as light weight as 1.95 pounds, the device is sturdy and firm. The device offers 2 USB (1 in a strange flip-jack form), SD and micro-SDHC card slots, a SIM card slot, and even mini-HDMI. 20 GB of flash memory are included, plus 2GB of Lenovo cloud storage. The keyboard is comfortable with roomy keys, so those fearing the smaller size of the book would not face any difficulty with typing.

The Skylight comes with 18 web gadgets, covering what most of the internet has to offer and that is popular over the net including Amazon’s MP3 store, GMail and Google Maps, Facebook, Firefox and more.

The price at which Lenovo has placed this smartbook is a bit daunting may compel customers into second thought about buying the device. The Skylight will retail for $500. Challenge is to find the right market for the product. Let us see if the smartbook trend will be short lived or can they revolutionize the way you perceive your netbook.

AOC 2230Fm LCD Monitor

Today in the spotlight is their 22 inch offering, called the AOC 2230Fm, also known as the Rivio; replete with lots of multimedia features and all that bebop. So let’s check it out.

Design and features
The aesthetic design of this model is actually quite nice, partly due to the well finished silver accenting on the bottom panel, and also due to a chequered faux finish around the side panels. The bezel is a good black gloss. The screen itself is glossy finish, thus slightly reflective when off, and might also be reflective in dark scenes. The On button is around push buttons illuminated by a tiny blue LED, adding to the appeal.

The frame slips onto a sturdy round stand, quite easily at that, thus facilitating easy physical set up. But unfortunately the joint is not so sturdy, the monitor wobbles at the slightest flick. Connection-wise this monitor has plenty, because one of the main USPs is the fact that this model sports direct playback of SD movies, JPEGs and MP3s from a USB drive. It has HDMI, DVI-D, VGA, Audio In, Headphone out and 4 USB ins, with one USB A – B wire included. Speakers give out 2 watts RMS. It also has a Memory card slot. I have to give the AOC some points here for including all the multimedia features, it’s rare in monitors.

As for rated specs, they seem high too, with 2 ms response time, 300 Cd/m2 brightness, 20000:1 dynamic contrast and viewing angle of 170/160 degrees. The resolution is not full HD though, it's 1680 by 1050, so the 16:10 curse for moviebuffs and videophiles is there. For gamers of course it’s not an issue. The panel is assumed to be TN.
