iPad Air vs. Retina iPad Mini

Apple's newest iPad, the iPad Air, is finally here -- it's available online and in stores in 42 countries and territories starting today. But before you rush out and order one, remember: this isn't the only iPad. In late November, the second updated Apple tablet of 2013, the iPad Mini with Retina Display, will be released as well.

So, which iPad should you get?

Let's assume you're already reading this article because you want to buy a new iPad versus another tablet. The decision becomes this: iPad Air or Retina Mini? Based on what we've seen so far, the decision's never been harder to make. But that's not necessarily a bad thing.

First off: don't get the iPad 2

I can make this real easy for you: don't get the iPad 2. It's $399 for 16GB of storage. It first came out in March 2011. And, you can buy a far faster, Retina-enabled new iPad Mini for the same price. Last year's iPad Mini, now at $299, is a more attractive proposition; it also has newer cameras. Keep in mind, though, that the extra $100 should buy you much better performance to go with that improved screen.

Retina Mini and Air: two different-sized peas in the same pod

Both the iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina Display have, from what we can see, entirely identical specs. Both have A7 processors. Both have the same-resolution Retina Display. Both start with 16GB of storage. Both have 5MP rear cameras and improved front-facing cameras. Both have, according to Apple, up to 10 hours of promised battery life. Neither has Touch ID. They even have the same colors.

These are the same iPad, in two slightly different sizes: 9.7-inch, and 7.9-inch. Both have 2,048x1,536-pixel resolutions, at 264 vs. 326 pixels per inch. For comparison, either one tops the pixel density of last year's Mini (163). Can you tell the difference between those pixel densities? My guess is no. It will mean some in-app text is inevitably smaller on the Mini.

The key differences: Price and size

The iPad Air weighs a pound, and has a 9.7-inch screen. It starts at $499. The iPad Mini with Retina Display weighs 0.73 pound and has a 7.9-inch screen. It's also a hundred dollars less, starting at $399.

Those are, really, the only hardware differences that we can see. The iPad Mini should perform the same, although we haven't tested one at CNET (Apple says the Retina Mini will be available in late November): there's always a chance that the Mini doesn't have quite as good a battery life as the Air, which topped 12 hours on our tests. But assuming it matches Apple's claims, you're really saving $100 by getting a physically smaller display with higher pixel density.

Is your eyesight bad? Get the iPad Air. I've used an iPad Mini for a year, however, and its screen is plenty large for reading books or magazines.

Productivity? Lean to Air

I've been able to get a lot of work done on an iPad Mini. It's not as ideal for every task, but it works. If you're a hard-core write-on-an-iPad person, the Air's physically larger size and virtual keyboard might make more sense. But you can do everything else fine on a Mini. It's just more compact. For me, that e-reader-plus-extra feel of the Mini made it a perfect companion.

Mini: seem right to you?

Saving $100: does that sound good to you? Go Mini

The Retina Mini offers a very similar product, for $100 less at the same storage configurations. Saving $100 on a Mini means you essentially can get a 32GB Retina Mini for $499, or get the 16GB LTE version for $30 more than a Wi-Fi Air. Or, that savings can go toward a keyboard case or other accessory. Or, you just save $100.

Do you use a keyboard case? Go Air

The iPad Mini keyboard accessories I've used just don't feel comfortable: they compress keys and remove keys to fit the dimensions of the Mini. Older, "large" iPads have excellent keyboard accessories, wide and normally spaced with a very comfortable feel. I haven't used any iPad Air keyboards yet, but they're bound to be more generous than Mini keyboards. You could always prop a Mini up and use a full-size Bluetooth keyboard, but it'll feel a little more clunky.

If you're a big keyboard typer, get the Air.

Is bigger better?

My advice is, get thee to an Apple Store and just look at the size of the Mini and 9.7-inch iPad screens. See if that 7.9-inch screen works for you. You don't need to see the Retina version to understand if the display feels too small for your everyday needs.

I like smaller travel tech: I gravitate toward the Mini, especially since it seems to have no compromises. Some people prefer the 11-inch MacBook Air to the 13-inch. I think it's a similar analogy here: it depends on how small you want your bag to be.

Is there a wrong decision?

Here's the best news: you can't really go wrong. They should both be fast, have up-to-date displays, and are closer in size and weight to each other than ever before. So, you save a hundred dollars and get a physically smaller screen, or you don't. If you can't get a Retina Mini or don't want to wait, I don't think you'll regret getting the iPad Air much. Ask a 13-inch MacBook Air owner how they feel about not owning an 11-inch. It's a fine difference, and perhaps too fine to obsess over.

These two products are closer than ever: the gap between last year's 1.4-pound fourth-gen Retina iPad and 0.68-pound non-Retina Mini was immense. This year, there's barely a gap at all.

But just remember, the Retina Mini is on the way, and isn't here yet. Don't forget about it. I'd get the Retina Mini if I had a choice. You, though, may not agree.

The iPad Air arrives

The iPad Air has arrived, and we can’t wait to get started with our testing. But before we roll up our sleeves and get to work on our iPad Air review.

Unveiled last month, the iPad Air is probably the biggest change to Apple’s tablet lineup since the original iPad’s release in 2010. I’m particularly interested to see how its battery life fares in our tests. Apple shrunk down the battery to make the iPad Air lighter and smaller than previous full-size models, and yet, this new tablet is expected to match the battery life of the fourth-generation iPad—or even improve on it.

I mentioned in my previews iPad article that I’m intrigued by the A7 processor inside the iPad Air. Specifically, I want to see if the new tablet is powerful enough to make me give up my MacBook Air. And as a dedicated iPad mini user, I want to see how this new full-size tablet compares to its more compact counterpart (keeping in mind, of course, that an iPad mini with Retina Display is coming later this month).

Bitstrips App: Awesome or Annoying?

We’ve seen quite a few Facebook fads over the years. Most Facebook users surely remember how popular the What People Think I Do and SomeEcards trends were (and still are, especially if you’re over 25). Now people have found another way to channel their sarcasm and passive-aggressiveness: the Bitstrips app.

If you aren’t quite sure what that is yet, scroll through a dozen or so updates in your Facebook feed and look for a post that looks something like this:

That is what a Bitstrips comic looks like, and Bitstrips have become insanely popular lately. While the Bitstrips website has been around for years, it has really taken off since launching apps on the Apple App Store and Google Play this week. The Bitstrips website already has 11 millionunique users.

Bitstrips’ CEO Jacob Blackstock offers up a pretty basic description of the app. “It’s an app that turns you and your friends into a cast of cartoon characters,” said Blackstock. “Then you can take those characters and put them into crazy scenes.” After you create an improved version of yourself (or “avatar”), you can pick from hundreds of situations to insert the avatar in and add your own captions:

Amazingly enough, The Toronto based company has gotten this successful without doing any advertising. “We’ve done zero advertising, and our acquisition cost so far has been nothing,” Shahan Panth, the marketing VP for Bitstrips, said. “We attribute it to striking a chord with people and providing a visual element to online communication that has been missing.”

Small tsunami reaches Japan after earthquake

A small tsunami triggered by a quake has hit Japan's eastern coast - where the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant is located - but no damage is reported.

The 30cm (1ft) waves reached the region after the 7.1 magnitude tremor struck at a depth of 10km (six miles), about 320km off the coast.

A tsunami alert issued for several areas was later lifted.

Workers at the Fukushima power station had been told to leave waterfront areas for higher ground.

But a Fukushima spokesman later said there was no damage or change in readings at radiation monitoring posts around the plant, according to Reuters news agency.

The Japan Meteorological Agency had warned that a small tsunami - up to one metre (3.3ft) - could reach the eastern coast after the tremor in the Pacific Ocean.

The agency had also issued a "yellow" advisory for Fukushima and the prefectures of Iwate, Miyagi, Ibaraki and parts of Chiba.

But it added: "Though there may be slight sea-level change in coastal regions, no tsunami damage is expected."

The earthquake struck at about 02:10 local time on Saturday (17:10 GMT Friday).

The tsunami advisory was lifted about two hours later.

The Fukushima reactors were damaged by the earthquake and tsunami of March 2011.

Since then, most of Japan's nuclear reactors have remained off, amid impassioned debate over nuclear energy.

More than 18,000 people were left dead or missing in that disaster.

Apple OS X Mavericks 10.9

When Apple first unveiled Mavericks, the latest version of its desktop operating system, we noted one key takeaway: The company is committed to OS X. Meaning, those of you waiting for an altogether new experience will have to keep holding your breath. Like all the iterations before it, version 10.9 is a building block atop the operating system's familiar UI. Apple didn't opt for a "biggest change ever" update as it did with release of iOS 7 (and potentially risking alienating longtime users as a result). Which makes sense, in a way: there's little question that the success of its smartphone and tablet offerings have contributed to the erosion of desktop sales, so it figures that the company is focusing much of its developer talent on mobile.

That's not to say there aren't a fair number of additions. As the company's decidedly modest tagline puts it, Mavericks lets users "Do even more with new apps and features." At the top of the list are the additions of Maps and iBooks -- two apps first introduced in iOS. And while there are no changes to the Finder as major as Notifications, tabbed windows and tags aim to help users better organize their desktops. We can tell you right now that there's enough in here to justify the download time, especially given that this is free for people already running Snow Leopard or higher. But is it enough to help OS X maintain Apple's self-proclaimed "world's most advanced desktop operating system?" Or is the company's reluctance to think different on the desktop hampering innovation?

How Google Glass works in simple terms

Google’s Project Glass is an exciting (and controversial) piece of technology. A wearable heads-up display with you at all times makes for a radically new experience, a much more intimate dialog with technology.

But how does it work, how does the image come to be on the little glass display and is it always in the corner of your eye, or could it also be in the center? Basically, the most interesting piece of technology in Glass is the display. Actually it is a prism onto which a projector sends an image. That image is what your retina focuses on. So this combination of a miniature projector and a prism allows Glass to show you an overlay to reality. The angle of the prism directs the image directly into your fovea, the part of your retina where you have the most visual acuity.

Tutorial for rooting your Google Nexus 4

First of all you need to download the SuperSUfile from here
Once you have downloaded this file, transfer it to your smartphones SD card. If you have downloaded the file directly on your smartphone then its fine otherwise transfer it to your phone using USB cable to a directory that is easily rememberable.
Remove your Nexus 4 from your computer and turn it off.
Now the next step you need to do is Boot your Nexus 4 into TWRP recovery Mode. We are using here TWRP recovery mode because it is more user friendly. If you don’t know how to enter in recovery mode, turn off your device and press volume down + Volume Up + Power button at the same time. Navigate using volume buttons to reach Recovery mode and select using the Power button. You will enter in recovery mode after you have pressed the Power button.

Select the file to begin the installation.
Scroll to right to the bottom blue button.
It will take some minutes for the installation to complete depending on the processing speed of your smartphone.
After the installation has been completed tap Reboot and then select System.
It will take some time for your Nexus 4 to boot into the normal mode.
Now got the Google Play store and download Root checker tool (Link Provided) so that you can verify your smartphone Here
Open the Root checker app and then tap on Verify button.

Another changing by Google in their Google Product, now that is Google Adsense. Everyone love and like it because it gives you more dollars as compared to other money websites. Recently, it announced a news change to ad serving with in Google Adsense. If it discovers a better performing ad type, even if Google it’s little than the ad slot you presently set up, It will spot the ad in that ad slot and place white space around it.

We called that "Similar Sized Display Ads" where it will try to cast in better performing ads still if they don’t seem as good.

It might seem like, with white space around the ad box:

To help increase competition for some ad sizes, we occasionally show similar-sizeddisplay ads within larger ad units. When this happens, the smaller ad is served neatly in the center of the larger ad unit. For example, you might see the following:

- a 160x600 ad in a 300x600 ad unit

- a 728x90 ad in a 970x90 ad unit

- a 300x250 ad in a 336x280 ad unit.

Note that this is not the complete list of ad units that may show smaller ads andthe list is subject to change.

I think most Adsense publishers are felicitous with this new modification.

Google AdWords Now With Pictures: Picture Ad Extensions

Why Google is increasing their search engine features every day? Is there any problem withGoogle developer team? Or anything else, I don’t understand yet. I am totally confused about Google and its development team. Now this time it announced that they are checking a fresh new ad extension to enable advertisers within the Google adwords product to insert pictures to their text ads.

Is there anyone shocked to hear that news? Probably not, am I right na? Why we are surprise? The search engine that congratulated them over never having pictures ads or banner ads in their Google search results. Google is trying to keep steeping nearer and nearer to that.

Naturally, It has had product advertise with picture product in the search outcomes for a long duration, even 2008, but that time, any ad has the power of displaying pictures above the ad.
