When someone is looking for a home business, one of the things that they worry about is whether or not it is legitimate. After all, there are a lot of scams out there on the Internet that promise a lot but deliver very little. So how do you know whether or not a home business is something that is real, or just a way to get your money?

Research -

One of the best ways to know whether or not a home business is legitimate is by doing research. Go on the Better Business Bureau's website and see if it's listed there, and how long it has been a member of the Better Business Bureau. You also want to see if there are any complaints about it. This is one of the most reliable ways to see if the business is legitimate.

Talk -

Another way to find out if the business venture you are considering is a good one is to talk to others who have done it. But only do this after you have checked the BBB website for the business, because the Better Business Bureau has nothing to gain or lose. It's very important to check out anything that looks too good to be true, because it probably is. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who enjoy taking advantage of those who are too trusting. So stay one step ahead of them and make sure that you find out everything you can about a business before signing up.

Setting Up Your Home Office

Before you start your business in your home, the one thing that you should do is to designate a place for you to work.

The area that you work in should be free of distractions and have a laptop or desktop computer, some furniture, a cell phone, wifi, and, if possible, a bathroom. This way you will have everything you need until you take your lunch break. Something to remember is that you are 'at work' in this area. An ideal solution is to have every distraction taken care of. This means that you have someone looking after your child, if possible. If your child is younger than school age, hire someone to look after them during the day. This may seem strange since you are working at home, but would you bring a infant or a child into your office with you? Probably not - your boss wouldn't allow it. Having someone look after them while you are working ensures that you will get everything done during business hours. If your children are school age and old enough to comprehend, show them that you are working, so that they know you should only be disturbed if it's an emergency. If they are still young, have someone watch them after school. This may seem like an unnecessary expense, but if you are talking to someone on the phone they won't take you seriously if they hear a crying baby in the office area, or kids arguing. Make yourself be a professional so that people know they can trust you.

With Your Home Business - How to Dress for Success

We have all seen the advertisements on the Internet about working in your pajamas, setting your own hours, and other things that entice us to want to work in our home. Even if you are not going somewhere, you are a professional person that is running your business from your home.

The first thing that you should keep in mind is that you should stay away from working in your pajamas. If you are in your pajamas, what are you thinking about? You are thinking about sleeping and that does not inspire you to work you business. It just creates no inspiration to do anything for you or your business and then you've accomplished nothing. Instead of wearing your pajamas, wear something that would be considered business casual. Even if you are the only one that sees you dressed that way, it will make you feel like you are working instead of just doing something from home. Something that those who work from home run into is that their friends and family don't think that they have a real job because they are sitting home in their pajamas and slippers, while the rest of the work force goes to work in suits and skirts. If you dress in business casual and someone does stop by, it will show that you are serious about your job, and that you have a -real- job. It will make you feel better and it will make them feel better as well. When you look like a confident business owner, you will feel like one as well.

Keeping Schedules in your Home Business

When you are starting up a home business, it's easy to ignore the alarm clock and get up whenever you want to get up. You are your own boss, you should be able to keep the hours that you want, right?

Wrong! This is a misconception that many who are going into the home business have. It is true that you are your own boss, but if you work from 9 to 5 one day, and then don't get up until noon the next day, people won't take you seriously. When you are setting up your home business, the first thing that you should do is to pick a schedule and stick to it. This way your customers know when they can reach you. This is good for business, and will help keep your customers coming back. When you sit down to plan out your business hours, figure out a starting time and a closing time, and factor in time for lunch as well. If you were working in an office environment, you would take a lunch break so set an acceptable amount of time to be at lunch and stick to it. You don't have a time clock that you have to go by, but you will have customers who are counting on you to be available during the hours that you set. Just as it's important to stick to your time for starting, it's just as important to stick to your time when you will be closed for the day. It's easy to want to check your email, but unless you are talking to a customer when the time comes, don't spread yourself too thin by going over time.

Hi everyone,

I know I haven't been around here much this year, but I have been working on some other business projects that are about to take off. The one thing I want to tell all of you that want to start their own Internet business is it's not a piece of cake as you may think. You will be at this business venture 24/7 and then some. If you think you can just turn your computer on and build a website turn on your open for business light on and the money will just start flowing, let me be the first to bust your bubble and bring you back to reality. It takes a lot of work to just to get visitors to your site let alone purchase something off of it. Remember, you are just starting out and they don't know you and until you build a reputation and get know out on the Internet you have to work to build your reputation. The one thing I will tell those of you who are willing to work hard to establish your business on the Internet is to have perseverance through the lows that you will come across from your no traffic to your site, programs on your site not running right, and even the site crashing. These thing will happen, it's how you handle them and push through that's what going make you successful. Trust me it's been happening to me and I just pushed through it and now my sites are growing traffic and I am gaining more and more experience as I go through all of this. Just remember this when your business is where you want it to be it will be because you worked hard to get it there and then it will be worth all the hard times you went through to get it there.

Setting up a website in order to bring business into your company is an essential step in the present day. Even from watching advertisements on television or picking up a magazine you can see that, alongside the bullet-point information in the ads, there is almost invariably a URL for the company website. The Internet is a serious business tool for the biggest companies, and the smaller companies use it too as it is often cheaper and more effective than going ahead with simple old fashioned business practices. Advertising, for one thing, costs a lot more in print and in public than it does online.

A good company website, can be the difference between your business sinking and swimming. There are certain things that can turn a potential customer off a company just from a short view of a website. These are simple things, but they can cost you big money if you allow them to. Good spelling is an essential – the potential customer may have doubts about your ability to deliver a good service if you cannot proof-read your documents. Readability is also important – no long, rambling sentences can be allowed, nor can a poor choice of color combination (navy blue text on a bright red background will not do).

Poor use of images is also dangerous. The wrong image, the wrong size, the wrong placement – these are just three things that can make a potential customer’s mind wander. And if you let their mind wander, it may just wander all the way over to one of your rivals.

When setting up a website for Internet business there are a few things that need to be kept in mind at all times. Certain dos and don’ts like these can be the difference between success and failure, and are the reason that many companies outsource their Internet work to real experts. The Internet is a serious business tool, and incorrect use of it can drive potential customers away. Keep this in mind when it comes to setting up a business website, and get unbiased feedback on it before you “go live”. It may take a bit of time, and may even require some spending, but the benefits of a good website are unarguable.

Having the content of the site written and designed professionally can be worthwhile. If you are good with words, it is less so – it is important to do as much of the work as you comfortably can. However, poorly worded text can hold you beneath the water line. A memorable URL for your site is also just about obligatory. Trying to get people to remember a long website address is likely to result in them going elsewhere. The site should also be easy to navigate and carry prominent contact details. Your potential customer may be very impressed by the flashing text and the snappy images, but if they cannot phone you or send you an e-mail, it won’t be much good to you. Try also to present a welcoming image on your site – sometimes just being made to smile can persuade a customer to spend their money.

The Internet is a global marketplace, and allows people living in small villages in one corner of the country to trade with someone half way across the globe in a similar village. Finally, never give up. Much easier said than done. If money is your problem, work on the many activities that you can do to promote your computer home based business without spending a dime. So, you can now email them with updates, information, new products, or whatever you want to communicate with them in order to help you build your relationship with them.

In this day and internet age, the personal touch is becoming more valued, simply because it is less frequent. Everything is automated including customer service, sales, and emails. So, if you can add a little bit of personalization to your automated efforts, it will go a long way in establishing trust with your list and clients. How can you do this? Starting up in business used to necessitate an incredible amount of ground work. You had to find premises. You had to source materials and buy necessary items. You had to get any number of clearances before you could go ahead and even begin to trade. It was a major reason why innovative people with ideas and a work ethic were lost to the world of business – the initial outlay and the potential loss from not having a steady income was too big a risk. The Internet has beautifully democratized the world of business, and as a result people with ideas are benefiting.

Now you can start in business as long as you have a few things, which are generally available to most ordinary people. A computer and an Internet connection allows you your way in to the business world. There is no point going in to that world, of course, if you don’t have a solid idea, but that was the case beforehand. Now, as long as you have your plan, you can put it into effect very quickly and make it pay for you within a very short timeframe. Having a bit of money to spend on promotion and facilities will make it easier and quicker, no dispute there. But it is no longer essential.

Driving things forward is about harnessing what you have. If for example you want to make money as a copy writer or proof reader, you need to publicize your services wherever you can think of, and ensure that people can contact you. One of the definite advantages to internet marketing is the availability of so many free web site traffic sources. There are literally hundreds you can choose from to suit your business and website, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, EzineArticles, Squidoo, USFreeAds, Craigslist, traffic exchanges, safelists, and more. This article will speak about a lesser known way to generate free web site traffic: writing newsletter articles.

While all the free methods of getting traffic to your website work very well, they can take quite a bit of time and consistency in your efforts before you start seeing the rewards. However you can get a so-called jump start on your efforts by writing newsletter articles. If you've done article marketing, you already have the know-how to do newsletter articles. The only difference is where you submit them. The hardest part of the whole process is finding someone who will publish your articles. And it's really not hard, just a little time consuming. However, the results are immediate.

Here's how it works. Editors of newsletters always need good content, especially if their newsletter is published frequently. So, some of them will allow you to publish your article for free, in exchange for offering them the work. The key is to make sure that your article is well-written and offers valuable information. Find out how many subscribers each newsletter has--in general, the most successful and important ones will publish this information. Send your article to the one with the highest number of subscribers first and continue down the list. BUT make sure that you wait a couple of days in between each submission so that you avoid having the same article published by different newsletters on the same day, causing embarrassment to them and possible denial of any future articles from you.

When you've finished sending the article to all the newsletters on your list, then send it to lists (such as IdeaMarketers.com, for example) that hold articles that other newsletters can send to their subscribers. Remember that the key to getting the best results with this in terms of free web site traffic is to write good content. You don't have to be a professional writer but your article should be free of grammatical and spelling errors, and perhaps more importantly, offer valuable information that answers the questions or solves the problems of your target readers.

3 Easy Ways To Generate Website Traffic

There are literally hundreds of ways that you can generate website traffic. They all work, but what you need to keep in mind is that they may not work immediately, so start with one, master it, and then move on to the next. As you do this, you will find the ones that you like better, or the ones that work better for your business and website, or both.

Here are just three popular ways to generate website traffic.

1. YouTube. YouTube.com is one of the most visited sites in the world (with over 73 million visits per day) and its visitor numbers continue to climb. If you want to be where the people, and your potential leads or customers, are, sign up for an account on YouTube, post a video, and put your link in the description of the video. YouTube also allows you to put your website on the video itself, but it is not a do-follow link so it is just there for visual purposes. As with all of your marketing efforts, you need to do some keyword research before preparing your video. Pick a keyword that you want to use, use it in the title of your video, in the tags of your video, and in the description of your video. The video must be under ten minutes long but you can do a very effective video for under a minute, which is another great advantage to using YouTube to generate traffic to your site. It doesn't take much time, and it's absolutely free. If you further want to leverage your video, you can submit it to one of the video submission sites which then sends it out to other popular video sites.

2. PPC. Most people think of Google AdWords when they hear the term pay-per-click advertising. Google is the best place to start because it is inexpensive to register (only $5.00) and it currently gets the most traffic. Again, you need to pick your keywords carefully. If you have a low budget, start out with the most uncompetitive keywords, use them in the first lines of your ads and even choose for your ad to show only when someone searches exactly that keyword. This will get you fewer clicks, but they will be more targeted. Once you start gaining ground, you can start to target more competitive keywords as well. You can also try the other PPC platforms like Yahoo and Bing. They have less visitors but the bids are also less expensive.

3. WordPress. You can really use any blogging platform to get traffic to your website but WordPress is very good from an SEO point of view, meaning you can get some incredibly effective, and free, plug-ins that will help you raise the ranking of your website. Include the link to your website in your posts and when you comment on other blogs to generate website traffic.

If you are a new affiliate marketer you have probably already realized that in order to make money you will have to not only drive as much traffic as possible to your website but also to capture your visitors contact information so that you can build a relationship with them. It might be depressing but it's true, upwards of 98% of the visitors you drive to your website aren't going to buy anything and most likely won't ever come back. No matter what you offer as an incentive the same rules apply: make it something of real value that will help your subscriber in some way. There is a lot of free information floating around the Internet. It isn't enough anymore to just offer someone something for free. It has got to be something unique that offers a lot of perceived value.

This same principle applies when you are preparing your follow up email messages. Whatever you include make sure it offers your subscribers useful information that isn't readily available elsewhere.

The best way to monetize your email list is to include a post script at the end of each of your messages that includes a link to a product or service that will help them further.

Most Google ranking tips deal with getting incoming links (or backlinks as they are also referred to) to your website. And for good reason. The more quality incoming links (determined by the rank of the site that the link originates from and the relevance of the keyword) you have, the higher your Google Page Rank will be and the more visible you will be to your prospects and/or customers. Here are some tricks to build your incoming links.

Submit your site to search engine directories. some directories charge a fee but many of them are free. If you're on a tight budget, stick to the free ones. These can get you some free links back to your website. Sign up with as many as you can. The more links you have into your site, the better your page rank.

This is one of the most overlooked but best of Google ranking tips. Join forums that are relevant to your industry. When you participate in forums and include the link to your website in your signature, you will get links back to your website. This is a very effective way to establish your reputation in your industry and raise your page rank at the same time.

Create an ezine (or newsletter). Taking the time to create a newsletter that you can send out to subscribers is definitely worth it. This keeps your visitors up to date with what you are doing and brings them back to visit your website on a consistent basis. You can also submit your ezine to an ezine directory which will link back to your website and give you more free incoming links.

Take advantage of article marketing. If you can create (or hire someone to do it for you) articles that pertain to your business, with your website information at the bottom, and submit them to article directories, you will get more traffic and links.

Ask for links from other related sites' webmasters. This is a rather "old-school" tactic but is still effective, albeit frustrating and time-consuming. Find sites that are related to your industry and write to their webmasters requesting that they link back to you. Some will not answer you. Some will say "no". Some will ask you to link to them as well. And others will just link to you.

You have higher chances of getting the results you want with this if your site contains valuable information. While your ultimate goal is to have high-rank sites linking to yours, you can start out with any rank (as long as the content is valuable and relevant to what you have to offer). As you bring in more links, your rank will go up as well and you will be able to attract the higher ranking sites.

But unfortunately a lot of people don't know how to generate leads effectively. Here are some tips on how you can generate your leads and see where your business goes.

1. Keep track of your advertising campaigns

If you are a part of a large home based business that has a corporate office, many of them have a way that allows you to do this. See if your home business has this, and take advantage of it if it's available.

If you aren't a part of a big home based business, or if this isn't something that your company offers, ask the leads how they came upon your information and what part of your advertisement drew them to your company.

Keep track of the results and this will help you know what is working and what isn't.

2. Choose a market to target

Sit down and figure out what part of the market you want to target, and concentrate on that. Otherwise you will find yourself targeting people who may not ever be interested and wasting a lot of time and money.

3. Offer clients incentives

Everyone loves to get something for free, so the best thing that you might do is to offer your current clients incentives for bringing in new clients.

It doesn't have to be money, it can be a small token of appreciation. The point is that they know that you appreciate what they have done.

I’ve been receiving a lot of email offers from people who are just using their regular email accounts. I just want to say that this is not a good way to start out in business, because you haven’t established yourself as business owner. Believe it or not when perspective customers reads your email they look at where the email comes from and if you are using your regular email account whatever it may be(gmail, msn, yahoo, etc.) perspective customers will usually mark your email as spam. In order to get perspective customers you need to have a business email address and website that they can check you out and see that you are a legit company. There are so many scams out on the internet today that people want to know who they are dealing with before they become your customer. So don’t put the cart before the horse, get a business domain name and websiteso customers know that you are a real business.

5 Tips To Success With Internet Marketing Products

There are so many internet marketing products available today, from methods and systems to teach people how to make money to scripts and software that help speed up the process.

However,
just like with any other information product, not everything is as good as the sales page may make it out to be. Or, in some cases, it just isn’t a good fit with the person buying it. If you have decided to invest in internet marketing products then try and keep the following tips in mind.

1. Who is the author? Before you buy, try and dig a little deeper to find out who the author of the book, system or method is. This is not as important with scripts and software, but with information products it’s good to know who you are buying from.

Unfortunately, the internet has allowed many to make money without actually having any knowledge of what they are writing about and this doesn’t bode well for anyone buying a new money making system.

2. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. If internet marketing products promise you that you can make $5,000 in the next 50 minutes, you would likely not believe it. Then why would you believe an internet marketing product that says you can make $10,000 in a month, even if the time span is longer?

Remember that internet marketing is essentially a business and a business can take quite a bit of time before it becomes profitable, so be patient.

3. Don’t give in to your emotions. Sometimes you want to believe in something so much that you overlook the cold, hard facts that are screaming at you that it is impossible for all these internet marketing products to deliver on their promises.

Yet, here you are putting your PayPal information in again to buy the latest shiny toy, even though you probably have a hard drive full of products you have never read.

4. Take action. This is one of the biggest problems in internet marketing today. People buy so many systems but never implement even one. They keep on looking for the Holy Grail without actually putting in the work to see whether or not they already have it in their grasp.

They jump from product to product, with no clear goal in sight hoping they will find that one product where they can push a button and their PayPal will receive money automatically. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that and you still need to put some work in. All the internet marketing products out there combined will not make you money if you do not put the work in.

5. Give it time. Just like with a diet, internet marketing products and the systems they offer need a little time. By their very nature, search engines take time before they rank a site and you are tempted to scrap a system within 24 hours of trying it because it doesn’t work.

Remember that you need to give anything a chance for at least 30 days to really judge how effective it is. If after thirty days you have not seen any progress, then by all means switch to a different system.
