McKenna Mitchell vs Veronica Mendoza. Mendoza has the clear advantage in the striking department, landing accurate Muay Thai style strikes whenever given the chance. But Mitchell pushes forward, smothering her in the clench for much of the fight. Controversial split decision with scores of 27-30, 30-27 and 29-28 give the fight to Mitchell.

Steven Tandoi vs Brady Rivera. Tandoi pounds out a win, overcoming Rivera's submission attempts along the way to a TKO win at 1:51 of Round 3.

Gary Helm vs Richard Wilson. Helm lands his opening punch, Wilson goes down, Helm swarms on and finishes with a Rear Naked Choke. Helm by Submission, 1:27 of Round 1.

Michael Howard vs Erin Hunter. Hunter out wrestles him, trys several submission attempts on for size. None fit, but the offense is good for a UD. Howard wins 30-27 on all three scorecards.

Jordan Fernandez vs Joey Kuhfeld. Better wrestling allows Fernandez to take the Decision, 29-28 from all three scorecards.

Robert Lee Graham vs Yahya Saad Graham with the early punch that hurts Saad, but Saad grabs a leg and stays in the fight. Saad makes up some points on the ground in later rounds, but Graham holds on the majority decision with scores of 28-28, 30-27 and 28-27.

Gabriel Juarez vs William Fessaha. Wrestling match as the two fighters battle for position, neither able to gain clear advantage. Third Round Ressaha tries for a leg lock, can't get it, and eats a boatload of punches for his trouble. Juarez takes the Decision 29-28 on all three cards.

Elshell Bertus vs Temuujin Ulzii-Orshikh. Ulzii-Orshikh steals the first round with a late flurry and good takedown defense. Bertus land hard leg kicks and later goes for the sub attempt on the ground. In the third round he finds his hold, an Americana arm lock that ends the fight. Bertus wins by Submission 0:44 of Round One.

We are back bitches! Edition.

Questionable Stoppage awakens from a one-year alcohol-induced coma and proudly returns to the world of combat sports journalism.

We will be attending the Evolution Sports Expo on Saturday, featuring both Muay Thai kickboxing matches and MMA fights. Not to mention thousands of square feet of fitness convention. We are going to need a lot of protein powder to get back into fighting shape after the coma. Kickboxing starts at 1 pm, MMA starts at 3 pm and the Expo goes all day.

California Fighting Championship 2 goes down at High Country Sports Arena in Sonora on Saturday night. Mix of Ammy and Pro fights, with featured match-ups including Nicholas Kohring vs. Oscar Martinez and Cody Sons vs. Ryan Williams. Gates open at 6 pm, fights start 7 pm.

Bellator 197 featuring Mitchael Chandler vs Brandon Girtz live in Missouri and on your Paramount Network channel. UFC on FOX 29 is on for Saturday night and features Poirier vs. Gaethje.

Everybody wants to fight for Titan's Cage Just an overwhelming number of fights on Saturday night as the region's best ammy fighters did battle. Each win moves you up that ladder, but at each rung a tougher fight awaits.

Curtis Gomez vs Eduardo Perez

Fighters circle and punching. Perez lands a clean right hand, knocking Gomez’s mouthpiece out and dropping the fighter to his knees. Perez on the ground looking for the finish, first punches, then a choke, but runs out of time. Fighters are wailing on each other in the opening seconds of the second, Gomez stumbles and falls, but Perez can’t take advantage and it's back to the feet. Perez is landing hard punches and kicks. Final Round Perez lands some strikes. Gomez makes some half-hearted takedown tries and has to settle for a holding Perez’s leg for a bit. Gomez is a bloody mess. Perez with a spinning back kick to body and something breaks in Gomez, who goes down hard and taps out. Perez wins by Submission 2:26 to claim the Titan's Cage Heavyweight Title.

Jordan Vazquez vs David Klingsheim

Klingsheim clip Vazquez with a punch and then pulls him to the mat after a long struggle. Ref stand up. Second round Klingsheim gets a much quicker takedown and has time to work. Klingsheim on his back, lands punches, threatens a Rear Naked Choke, but doesn’t lock it up for good. Klingsheim wins with scores of 30-27, 30-26, 30-25.

Kyle Kolod vs Joshua Dim

Dim is in all out berserker mode and Kolod is looking for space. He doesn’t get it, and is soon floored and out. Dim wins by TKO at 0:51 of Round One.

Gabriel Pacheco-Colce vs Nicholas Dillman

After an inconclusive first round, Dillman just floors Pacheco-Colce with his second round opening punch. Dillman jumps on into guard but runs into trouble, as Pacheco-Colce keeps his head and works his way to a fight-ending Triangle Choke. Pacheco-Colce wins by Submission. 1:27 to claim the Titan’s Cage Welterweight Title.

Robert Seronio III vs Michael Howard

Fighters trade, but Howard controls the middle of the fight with a takedown and ground and pound. Second round Seronio opens with a takedown and is landing shots in guard. Third round again see a takedown from Seronio, who again controls the action from guard and half guard. Seronio wins by UD, scores of 29-28 on all three cards.

Julious Wright vs Jamerson Johnson

Intense wrestling as the two fighters battle desperately for position. Neither man can hold the other down. Johnson comes out looking wobbly and tired, and Wright quickly takes him down and pounds him out. Wright wins by TKO at 0:22 of Round Two.

Richard Taifane vs Matt Zonfrello

Big men throwing big punches. Taifane with the strong opening, but Zonfrello was able to rally in the last two rounds. Zonfrello wins by Unanimous Decision.

Zach Costa vs Savador Martinez

Two rounds of Martinez sloppy, sloppy stand up technique that somehow Casta was unable to take advantage of. But in the third round the fight hits the mat and Costa locks up a fight-ending knee bar. Costa wins by Submission at 0:34 of Round Three.

Kenneth Tullgren vs Kody Vogels

Vogels with clear advantage, putting Tullgren on his back, and landing punches. Vogels with more pressure in the second round, putting away his man with punches.

Andrew Russo vs Fred Yu

Back and forth first round, Russo throwing punches, and Yu waiting for his opening. Yu with a great hip toss to mount, but completely waists the great position. Second round its Russo with the flashy takedowns, and Yu spends most of the round defending off his back. Final round tired slugging finishes out the fight. Russo takes the Majority Decision with scores of 29-28, 29-28, 28-28.

Carlos Figueroa vs Shota Geperidze

Stand up action all the way through, Carlos Figueroa out-lands Geperidze to claim the Unanimous Decision, with scores of 29-28, 29-28 30-27

Solomon Valentine vs John Wilson

Wilson with solid strikes and dramatic takedowns in the first round, but doesn’t make much of them. Second round Wilson get another takedown, but Valentine uses a Guillotine choke to sweep and moves to mount, beating up Wilson till the bell sounds. Majority Decision for Wilson, with scores of 29-28, 28-28, and 29-28.

John Saechao vs Evans Walters

Saechao, built like an action figure, is looking to land a heavy punch or drag Walters to the mat, but Walters is too fast on his feet, and Saechao lacks the balance to catch him. Walters foils takedown tries and stick-and-moves his way to the Decision Win. 29-28 on all three cards for Walters.

Samuel Wooten vs Khai Wu

Wooten out early, aggressive and wild swings of the fist and feet. Wu able to dodge for the most part, and jumps on Wooten late when he slips after a kick. Wooten continues to miss in the second round, and Wu is landing good kicks. Wu switches to punches, and does Wooten in. Wooten goes down, and just a few follow on punches is all he needs. Wu wins by TKO at 1:27 of Round Two.

Eddie Smith vs Brian Lenau

You don’t have to be the fastest, just faster than the other guy and Lenau was the faster man, landing a variety of strikes to claim the easy decision win. Lenau wins by Unanimous Decision with scores of 30-27, 29-28 and 30-27.

Great night of action at GKO 9 on Saturday night. Fighters from as far away as Brazil and Scotland. A new Middleweight Champion was crowned. Only one fight went to the judges. In the battle for local gym supremacy, the T-Shirt reads "Team Alpha Male vs Everyone" but Saturday night, "Everyone" did pretty well, with TAM going 2-3 on the night as crowd favorites Tiffany Conama and Anthony Avila took loses. Let's get to the action:

Angel DeAnda vs Justin Baesman

Fight is a stand up battle all the way. DeAnda looking move forward in a straight line and box, while Baesman stay elusive, and looking to score with a wide variety of kicks. Second round is a carbon copy of the first. Every so often DeAnda looks like he’s put together a punch combo, pinned Baesman against the fence, or otherwise has him in trouble, only for Baesman to spring free. But middle of the third round ether Baesman’s luck or gas tank abandoned him. DeAnda clips him in the ear and Baesman is clearly stunned. A punch combo from DeAnda and Baesman turtles, another and he crumples to the ground and that’s the fight. DeAnda claims the GKO Middleweight Title with a TKO at 2:32 of Round Three.

Sam Toomer vs Anthony Avila

Avila is out aggressive, moving in and out and jabbing with fast hands, Toomer spends the first minute of the fight backing up. But when Toomer starts to counter-punch his timing is perfect, and Avila goes wobbly. Toomer quickly shifts from defense to offense, and despite Avila’s bob+weave Toomer continues to land hard shots that hurt Avila. Avila crumples under the assault, and the Ref calls the fight. Toomer wins by TKO at 3:03 of Round One.

Anthony Hernandez vs Michael Persons

Hernandez out aggressive on the feet early, Person smothers the attack in the clench, Hernandez lands a pair of punches and follows up with a standing Guillotine Choke. Persons is forced to tap. Hernandez wins by Submission at 3:08 of the very first Round.

Jamie Thorton vs Barbara Acioly

Early takedown from Thorton and she roughs up her opponent with punches and knees on the ground before Acioly works her way back to the feet. Fighter trade strikes, punch combos from Acioly and leg kick and jabs from Thorton. Accidental eye poke of Thorton brings a pause to the action. After the restart, Thorton is in flat out berserker mode, landing a series of hockey-brawl style punches. Acioly replies with punches and body kicks. Final minute of the round, Thorton scores a takedown, but Acioly uses a spider guard to set up the fight-ending triangle choke. Acioly wins by Submission at 4:35 of Round One

Ran Weathers vs Tyler Diamond

Fighters trade punches and then Diamond tries for a takedown, Fighter end up in the clench trade knees. Fighters eventually separate and are trading kicks, high a and low. Diamond with a tackle takedown, Weathers works back to his feet but eats a number of knees and punches on his way. More punishment for Weathers on the feet and the fight is called Diamond wins by TKO at 1:51 of Round One.

Chris Culley vs Adrian Diaz

Diaz flashes quick hands early. Culley catches a kick and takes the fight to the ground, but Diaz has the advantage in the scramble and locks up a fight-ending guillotine choke. Diaz wins by Submission in the first round.

Nohelin Hernandez vs Martin Day

Both fighters moving in and out, looking to strike, with Day flashing a dangerous looking spinning roundhouse kick. Day, slips, Hernandez jumps into guard. Hernandez with a fight-ending series of punches. Hernandez wins by TKO in Round One.

Jordan Espinosa vs Bobby Escalante

Both men try their hand at takedowns early and neither gets it. Fighter trade light punches and kicks. Escalante gets a single leg takedown but Espinosa popes to feet. Espinosa on top of Escalante , landing punches from back and half guard. Espinosa works his way to an anaconda choke and ends the fight. Espinosa wins by Submission at 3:30 of the First Round.

Fee Chrystall vs Tiffany Conama

Conama looking strong in an all-striking first round, landing a series of punch combos that left Chrystall bloody. But Chrystall would not be backed down, trying Conama up a thai plum and landing knees, plus some kicks from the outside. Second Round pace slows, and Chrystall gets some back with leg kicks and single punches. Third round Chrystall stays light on her feet, staying out the reach of Conama takedown tries and punches, landing kicks of her own. Split Decision for Fee Chrystall, who came back from a hard first round to claim the next two.

Great night of action on Saturday as the region's top fight teams places their newest talents in the forge of battle. Who will rise? Who will fall? Let's get to the results and find out.

Dyllan Snavely vs Dwight Maters

Fighters clench right away, and battle for position against the fench. Some knees from Snavely the only real offence. Fighters clench, separate, Snavely takedown try leads to clench. That’s the round. Third round Maters is cagy, trying to keep his distance. Snavely keeps doggedly looking for a takedown. Final moments of the round sees some leg kicks and boxing from Maters. Dwight Mater takes the Split Decision by scores of 29-28, 28-29 S, 29-28 to claim the NorCal Fight Series Heavyweight Title.

Blake Degmetich vs Luke Folkens

Both fighter duck under early high kicks. Then Folkens finds Degmetich’s off switch with had punch. Folkens wins by KO at :27 of Round One.

Austin Branum vs Kody Vogels

Fighters trade some light punches, then Branum shoots. Fighters battle for position, Branum briefly on top before Vogel settles into guard and lands some punches at the bell. Second round the fighters trade some ill-intentioned punches. Vogels seems to have the advantage in the trades, but neither fighter is unhurt. Final round back to traded hard punches. Branum is hurt, tries to clench, eats more punches for his trouble. Both men are exhausted but still fighting at the ending bell. 29-28 on all three cards for Kody Vogels.

Monique Clark vs Maritza Sanchez

Clark withstands some early kicks to floor Sanchez with an overhand right. But once Clark jumps on the fight shifts, and Sanchez gets into an armbar position. She has to re-set once to lock it in, but she ends the fight with it. Sanchez wins by Submission at :55 of Round One.

Cody Gutierrez vs Ryan Waterlyn

Gutierrez knocked down early but recovers with a takedown. Waterlyn sweeps, gets back to feet. Fighters trade strikes and taunts. Gutierrez lands punches in bunches, but Waterlyn unloads a wild haymaker that just floors Gutierrez, Waterlyn lands some final shots and Gutierrez is lucky the fight isn’t called. Second round Waterlyn again floor his man but Gutierrez pops back up. Waterlyn trip takedown, but Gutierrez sweeps and works into mount, loses position for an illegal strike. Final round Gutierrez opens with something like ten unanswered strikes and finally we have a finish. Cody Gutierrez wins an absolute wild one with a TKO at 1:07 of Round Three.

Josh Martinez vs Andrew Silva

Fighters quickly go to wrestling. Martinez lands knees from side control. Martinez works him over a neck crank and Silva is done. Martinez wins by Submission at 1:26 of Round One.

Eddie Leyva vs Toney Lopez

Fighters trade big haymakers, then clench up against the cage. Leyva overbears his man to the ground, doesn’t make much of the position, and the ref stands the fighters up. Lopez opens the first round with spinning shit, don’t work, but his takedown does. Leyva sweeps, and takes the back, goes for the Rear Naked Choke. The position looks terrible, but Lopez holds on to bell. Fighters trade punches to open the last round, then lock together and fall to the mat. Lopez has excellent position for an armbar, but doesn’t know how, so Leyva secures top position, and advances to mount before the final bell. 30-27 on all three cards for Eddie Leyva.

Carlos Perez vs David Solorzano

Solorzano out aggressive early, landing punches on the feet and on top from guard. Perez works his way back to his feet and unleashes a series of punches that has Solorzano a little wobbly, and then a lot wobbly. Perez come from behind early to win by TKO at 1:52 of Round One.

Chandler Antill vs Cole Kertesz

Kertesz is landing punches from the opening dig. Antill eats several hard shots, ducks under a pair of high kicks and then is turned into a folding chair by a big Kertesz right hand. Kertesz wins by KO at 0:28 of Round One.

Loads of fights at the Thunder Valley Casino on Saturday night. Faces were punched, ego deflated and title belts retained. Let's get to the action:

Josh Appelt vs Ben Bebe

Bebe charges in and the fighters end up in a clench again the cage. A leg trip from Appelt and he’s immediately into mount. Hard ground and pound punches from Appelt. Bebe turtles, but the assault continues, and the fight is called. Appelt wins by TKO at 1:09 of round One

Thomas Fallon vs Dante Harrell

Fallon opens with a series of leg kicks, then mixes in punches and leg kicks. Harrell has no defense for the kicks, and little for the punches. Fallon is landing punch combos to good effect, Harrell curls up on his feet and eats some knees. A few more brutal punches and that’s the fight. Fallon take the TKO win at 2:50 of Round Three.

William Johnson vs Steve Morgan

Despite giving up like two feet of height advantage, Johnson is aggressive going to the body with punches. Morgan lands some good kicks, but slips and Johnson is on him. Morgan uses those long legs to his advantage, locking up the Triangle Choke and forcing Johnson to tap. Morgan wins by Submission at 2:21 of round one.

Jordan Beaver vs Robert Sarkozi

Beaver catches Sarkozi with an early punch and Sarkozi is stunned. Sarkozi recovers on the ground and the fighters trade punches. Takedown Sarkozi, goes to word in guard. Ref stands them. Beaver tries for a takedown of his own, eats a bunch knees for his trouble. Sarkozi gives up the easy takedown. Both fighters are bloody at the bell. Early punches from Beaver in the second, Sarkozi dives in for a takedown, but Beaver wraps up a fight-ending Rear Naked Choke. Beaver by Submission at 0:27 of Round Two.

Salamain Ahmadyar vs Dominic Noichols

Nichols tries for a standing guillotine, but Ahmadyar powers through and puts Nichols on the ground in half guard. From there is only a little more work from Ahmadyar to finish the fight. Ahmadyar wins by TKO 0:43 of Round One.

Thomas Martinez vs Nate Espinoza

Someone should have warned Martinez he was going to be fighting. He seemed unprepared as Espinoza was able to take his back almost immediately, Martinez spends a couple of minutes on desperate defense from several bad positions before falling to a Rear Naked Choke. Espinoza wins by Submission at 2:39 of Round One.

Tony Robertson vs Lamar Reed

Robertson comes out aggressive but unbalanced. Reed lands body shots in the clench, and puts Robertson down with a hard hip toss. Robertson lands on his head, Reed is on him and the fight is over. Reed wins by TKO at 0:30 of Round One.

Mike Morales vs Idrees Wasi

Wasi land strikes and looking light on his feet, Morales with a takedown late.” Early takedown for Morales, lands some punches from guard until the ref stand up. Second Morales takedown at the bell. Third round opens with Wasi strikes but Morales soon has his takedown and lands just enough elbows and punches. Ref stand up, and Wasi with a late flurry of punches. Unanimous Decision win for Morales.

Cristian Giovannie vs Tim Silagi

Giovannie stuffs a takedown and turns it to side control. Giovannie with some punches that Silagi seems...unprepared for and the fight is called. Giovannie wins by 0:42 of Round One.

Fernando Smith vs Robert Allensworth

Smith keeps getting takedowns into great positions, but can’t hold them and Allensworth wriggles free three times in the first round. Second round Smith works a front headlock, landing knees. Takedown Smith, boxing from Allensworth without effect. Big punches from Allensworth have the crowd pumped, but Smith smothers him man in the clench again the cage and a late takedown. Unanimous Decision for Fernando Smith.

Aven Hovac vs Gene Thomas

Hovac with the quick single-leg takedown and the even quicker Rear Naked Choke. Hovac by Submission in the First Round.

Tony Juarez vs Rajmund Besztercei

Juarez drops Besztercei with a hard punch, Besztercei goes for a takedown to recover, not only gets it, but is able to take Juarez’s back and finish the fight with a Rear Naked Choke. Besztercei wins by Submission at 1:31 of Round Two

Klint Arnold vs CJ Leveque

Both fighters looking to box CJ mixing in some high and low kicks. Arnold stuffs a takedown try, CJ knocks his man’s mouthpiece out, but no decisive shot in the first. Second round both fighters are bouncing punches off each other’s head. CJ land a series of hard punches in the closing seconds of the round. Arnold is unable to answer the bell for the third round. CJ wins by TKO at 3:00 of Round Two.

Dominic Nickles vs Colton Newmarch

Nickles waves his hands around with some foolishness, Newmark dive into a takedown, moves immediately to mount and pounds out a defenseless Nickles. Newmark wins by TKO at 2:02 of Round One.

Exciting afternoon of kickboxing action at Pin N Strikes in Elk Grove as the regions best come out to battle for our entertainment. Let's get to the action.

Mikey Shaw vs Mike Martinez
Well-matched technical fighters, each spent their time testing out the various weapons at their disposal. Martinez was more aggressive, pressing the action, and it paid off on the scorecards. Matinez takes the Split Decision, scores of 46-49, 49-46 and 48-47.

Magalie Alvarez vs Maggie Tucker - Atomweight Title
Alavarez out early with a series of leg kicks. Tucker pushes into the corner and lands some punches. In the second Alvarez is looking for kick-punch combos, while Tucker is looking to catch kick and land counter-punches. By the third round both fighters are out of the their defensive postures and the fight is free flowing punches and kicks from both fighters. The high pace continues in the fifth and final round, with neither fighter backing down. Alvarez pulls out the Split Decision to keep her MTG Atomweight Title by scores of 49-46, 46-49, 49-46.

Reuben Dasalla vs Jake Haas
Haas is landing a counter-right that has Dasalla staggering several times in the first round. Dasalla attacking with wild abandon in the second. Haas takes some punishment but is still countering well. Third round with just seconds left Haas lands a final straight right that ends the action. Haas wins by TKO at 1:55 of Round Three.

Alvaro Cabrera vs Andrew Capurro - Light Welterweight Title
Measured pace to start. Capurro main weapon is kicks, both high and low. Cabrera look to counter with punch combinations. Capurro turns up presure in the third round, back Cabrera into a corner and landing punches and knees. But the forth roundsee Cabrera storm back in, cutting Capurro’s leg out from under hip and generally keeping up the pressure. Back and forth final round make this one hard to judge. 48-47, 48-47, 50-45 all for Andrew Capurro.

Jermaine Tolentino vs Frank Perez
Fighters getting dangerous-looking cracks in with kicks and elbows. Tolentino initiates, Perez looking to counter. Perez takes the split decision with scores 28-29 , 30-27 and 30-27.

Manny Keo vs Erin Hunter
Fighters trade strikes from medium range alternating with struggles for position in the clench. Keo looking stronger as the match wore on. 29-28, 30-27, 29-28 all for Keo

Janet Garcia vs Anne Gabriella Maxwell
Garcia is manhandling Maxwell in the clench. Penalty point for Maxwell when she doesn’t stop when instructed. Maxwell scores well from distance, but is thrown to the mat again and again by Garcia. Third round Maxwell is tired and fustraded and gets hit as she advances. Judges score it 30-26 on all cards for Garcia

Donald Lee Jr vs Jonathan Christenson
Christensoen controls the pace, attacking for most of the round, pinning Lee in the corner and landing a series of knees to the body. Lee gets in more counters in the second and catches some kicks, but Christenson still sets the pace. Third round fighters bang it out. 29-28 on all three cards for Christenson.

Timothy Kamal vs Jonathan Terry
Both fighters are bangers, slugging for three rounds Final round 30-27, 29-39, 300-37

Sean Tuoato vs Matt Cox
Both fighter firing away with mid-range and leg kicks. More in the second round. From the second round on Cox is able to disrupt Tuoto’s rhythm and generally edges out his him man with better power punches. After three round the scorecards all read 30-27 for Cox

Cameron Beliso vs Carlos Hernandez
Both fighters landing single punches and kicks, but Hernandez is more effective, snapping Beliso head back with his overhand right and wobbling his stand with his leg kick. Second round Beliso is looking much stronger fighters trade blow-for-blow with knees in the clench. Fast paced final round as both fighters look to bank a final few points. 30-27, 28-29 and 29-28

2016 Female Fighter of the Year Poll

Brieta Carpenter - Finished off her ammy career with two more wins in 2016, including claiming the Tuff-E-Nuff Bantamweight Title with a 10 second knockout.

Brooke Mayo - Two more MMA wins for her this year, including the winning the statewide 135 title. Will go pro with Bellator in the new year.

Tiffany Conama - Another win in 2016 to remain perfect at 3-0.

Cynthia Calvillo - Two wins in as many fights with GKO to start her pro campaign.

Jaymee Nievara - 2-1 in 2016 including a 2nd round KO over Stephanie Frausto at Bellator 154 and 4-2 overall.

Esperanza Cadena - 3 wins in as many tries in her first year in competition, including at 559 title belt.

As always, we leave tough decisions up to the good readers of Questionable Stoppage. So here are the candidates for the best male fighter on the local MMA scene in the year 2016.

Danasabe Mohammed - A pair of wins in 2016, jumps up from Dragon House to Bellator, record now stands at 5-1.

Benito Lopez - "Golden Boy" had two more wins in 2016, both by first round KO/TKO runs his professional record up to 6-0.

Dwight Grant - 4-0 in 2016, picking up wins with Global Knockout and Conquer FC, this AKA product finishes the year with a win at Bellator in November.

Max Griffin - Claims the “King of Sacramento” title in January with a first round knockout over David Mitchell at West Coast Fighting Championship, holds out for his UFC call, and collects his first UFC win in November.

Bobby Nash - Worked his way into the UFC with 3 straight wins, all stoppages, in 2016, including 2 with Global Knockout.

Jordan Powell - Ripped off three straight wins in as many tries in 2016, looking better in each fight.

Josh Emmett - Punches his ticket to the UFC with a third-round knockout over Christos Giagos in January and is now 2-0 with the promotion.

Alex Sandoval - Three and one this year against top competition. Made the jump to the UFC and collected his first win with the promotion in Sacramento in December.

Angel DeAnda - Two win in two Global Knockout main events this year and currently riding a four-fight win streaks

A High-Flying Year for MMA in Northern California

Here are the the Staff of Questionable Stoppage's picks for the best action we've seen on the regional MMA scene.

Fights of the Year

Max Griffin vs David Mitchell at West Coast Fighting Championship 16 in January. Never have we seen a fight hyped like the “King of Sacramento” showdown. The most Main Event Main Event we’ve seen on the region scene. Max Griffin punches his ticket to the UFC with a first-round knockout.

Roger Severson vs Agapito Mendoza at Conquest FC in May. Just a wild fight from start to finish. Just when you are sure one fighter has a clear advantage the other guy find a new gear. The judges give it to Severson, but really, we are all winners for having seen this fight.

Josh Emmett vs Christos Giagos at West Coast Fighting Championship 16 in January - Emmett puts this fight on his final application for the UFC, dragging a super-tough Giagos into the deep waters.

KO/TKO of the Year

Alex Sandoval and Eloy Garza spend three minutes testing each other’s chins at Global Knockout 6 in March and Garza chin is the first to go. Bam.

David Skuba finds Calob Ramirez off switch at 0:17 of Round Three at West Coast FC 17.

Elliott Escovedo makes Brandon Stritt reconsider his choice to enter the cage in just a few seconds at Nor Cal Fight Series I in Febuary.

Submissions of the Year

Randall Wallace pulls out the surprise Guillotine Choke win to seal the come-from-behind victory over Team Alpha Male protege Angelo Trevino at Global Knockout 8 in November.

Albert Morales with the slickest of Triangle Chokes to force Kurt Weinrich to give at West Coast FC 16.

Jimelene Nievera get the late-third round kneebar to tap Charlene Gellner at Dragon House 22 in February.

Cecil People Memorial Award for the Most Questionable Stoppage

The entire show is brought to a Questionable Stop when a fight breaks out in the audience at the joint West Coast FC/Nor Cal Fighting show. Industrial strength pepper spray from security spooks the crowd, and the crowd spooks the athletic commission into shutting down the show with three fights, including the Main and Co-Main events, left unfought.

Fight Report: CFC 2: Unsettled Business

Despite the storm of the century bearing down on Northern California, a big crowd came out to Modesto on Saturday night to see a great night of action from Cagebound Fighting Championship. Let’s get to the fights:

Richard Treas vs Kenosha Sauders

Treas knocks out Sauders so fast I didn’t have time to take notes. Sauders didn’t have time to do anything. It was brutal. It was fast. Richard Treas wins by Knockout in just 0:09 of the very first round.

Oliver Pryor vs James Gilley

Pryor looking overpowering, shoves Gilley into the cage and starts landing knees, but one comes in low and pauses the fight. Apparently the low blow ticked Gilley off, because after the restart he lands a haymaker that turns Pryor into a falling tree. A few follow-on punches are enough to end the fight. Gilley wins by TKO at 0:28 of Round One.

Matt Zonfrello vs Eddie Smith

Zonfrello has the early striking advantage, Smith is knocked/falls down twice and Zonfrello lets him back up. A kick to the liver from Zonfrello crumples Smith and ends the fight. Zonfrello wins by KO at 1:13 of the first round.

Grace Buchan vs Salma Del Real

Fighters trade punches, and Buchan is getting some good cracks in, but Del Real shakes it off and keeps moving forward. Second rounds slower action, but still advantage Buchan with her strikes. Third round Buchan cuts Del Real’s legs out from under her with a savage leg kick. Buchan jumps on top into half guard. She works to mount and the final bell rings with her raining down punches. Grace Buchan take the UD with scores of 30-27 on all three cards.

Brandon Olson vs Conan Orozco

Fighters trade cracking head kicks. Orozco looks to change levels, but Olson is able to reverse the position in the scramble on the mat and locks up a Rear Naked Choke that finishes the fight.

Brandon Olson wins by Submission at 1:32 of Round One

Richard Mendez vs Laird Anderson

Fighters circle, trade leg kicks and punches, neither with the clear advantage. Second round Anderson with the takedown to half guard and holds that position for most of the round. Anderson lights up Mendez in the third, landing a series of hard power punches that knock him down and finish the fight. Anderson wins by TKO at :16 of Round Three.

Rudy Reulles vs Tyler Escoto

Escoto lands hard punches, Reulles goes down, and Escoto doesn’t give him a chance to continue. Escoto wins by TKO at 0:29 of Round One

Anthony Gonzalez vs Cesar Moreno

Moreno aggressive from the bell, putting Gonzalez on his back, and pummeling him from a variety of positions. Gonzalez evades a Guillotine choke, eats more punches and survives the round.

Second round, fighters trade jabs, then a big slam takedown from Moreno. Gonzalez pops back to his feet, the fighters battle for position the rest of the round. Third round Moreno gets the takedown after a long struggle. Gonzalez locks up a triangle choke, but Moreno’s arm is in and he holds out until the final bell. 30-27, 30-26, 29-27 all for Cesar Moreno, who takes the UD.

Spencer Murray vs Solomon Valentine

Series of body kicks from Valentine to start. Murray takedown, but Valentine is waiting with the guillotine choke. Murray tries to roll out but the choke holds and he is forced to tap. Valentine wins by Submission at 0:29 of Round One.

Omar Diaz vs Alex Badovinac

Diaz with a takedown, but doesn’t make much of the position and the ref stands them up. Diaz attempts a pulls guard guillotine choke, but Badovinac fights free before the bell. Second round, Diaz falls into half guard, lands punches and advances. Diaz in back control, finishes with a Rear Naked Choke. Diaz wins by Submission at 0:24 of the Second Round.

Huge show in the heart of San Francisco on Saturday, as Dragon House assembled no less than 38 fighters, pro and ammy, male and female, to do battle for our entertainment. Blood was shed, comeback were mounted, and hearts were broken. So lets get to the staggering number of fights and how they all turned out.

Shawn Brunch vs Josh San Diego

Lots of feints to start, then time in the clench against the cage. Brunch scores a clean takedown and spends the rest of the round working punches from guard. Second round Brunch is on San Diego's back after a takedown, the fighter settle into guard. Brunch batters his man with punches and elbows, controlling the position, while San Diego struggle to break free. Third round Brunch is again on top, working from side control. Final minuet of the fight San Diego is free and looking for the home run submission attempt, but is denied. It goes to the judges, all three score it 30-27 for Brunch.

Nicole Johnson vs Angela Samaro

Johnson slips and falls on an early kick and Samaro jumps on, but Johnson keeps her head and immediately transitions to an armbar. Samaro tries to slam her way out, but Johnson is clamped on, and Samaro is forced to tap. Johnson wins by Submission, at 0:39 of Round One.

Jordan Powell vs Michael Ortega

Powell pushes Ortega into the fence, Ortega with a takedown to side control. Ortega is all over Powell like a wet blanket. Second round Powell uses a guilotine to control Ortega and fend off his takedowns. Powell lands knees in the clench. Ortega attempts a rolling takedown, but Powell covers well and takes the back. A Rear Naked Choke is quick to follow. Powell wins by Submission at 2:05 of Round Two.

Neale Johnson vs Ivan Batinieh

Dirty boxing and hard struggles for advantage in the clench before Batinieh gets the takedown. Batinieh trys for a kimora but can’t get the angle. Back to the feet Johnson lands a good combo but is taken down again. Batinieh locks up a fight-ending arm triangle. Batinieh wins by Submission at 3:04 of Round One.

Isaiah Gonzalez vs Brandon Laroco

Hard punches and a long clench against the fence before Gonzalez drags Laroco to the canvas. Gonzalez goes to work, landing punches, but nothing decisive before the bell. Second round both fighters are swing for the fences, and Gonzalez is rocked several times in the exchange. Gonzalez on his back, taking more shots, but looking for a sub. Larcoco lands more punches, but Gonzalez gets the fight to the ground and is active enought to keep it there. 29-28 on all three scorecards for Gonzalez, who is battered but triumphent.

Allison Schmidt vs Erica Dodinez

Dodinez with the early advantage in striking. Trade knees the clench. Schmidt is taken down, but sweeps and advances to half guard, mount then back control, but Dodinez is able to escape, and two fighters trade positions twice more. Round two imediate Schmidt takedown and this time no escape for Dodinez who is forced to tap to a Rear Naked Choke. Schmidt wins by Submission at 0: 41 of Round Two.

Nelson Ocampo vs Brady Huang

It takes some doing but Huang eventially drags his man to the ground. Once there its fast work, as he moves into mount and pounds Ocampo out. Huang wins by TKO at 1:21 of Round One

Thomas Ponce de Leon vs Lee Roy Castro

De Leon lands punches, kicks and knees in the opening meniuts of the fight. One of those knees connect to Castro’s chin briefly seperating his soul from his body. Ponce de Leon wins by KO at 2:37 of Round One.

Dino Pagtakhart vs Paradise Vaovasa

Some cracking muay thai style kicks and some showboating early from Pagakhart early. Big slam takedown by Vaovasa, who goes to work on the ground, taking the back and finishing with a Rear Naked Choke. Vaovasa wins by Submission at 2:24 of Round One.

Nohellen Hernandez vs Adam Cruz

Hernandez moving in and out and landing punches early. Cruz presses in for a takedown, but can’t keep Hernandez down. Back to striking and Mernandez is out pointing his man. Cruz eats some punches, keeps trying for takedowns and Hernandez wriggles free. Hernandez continue to strike well,and dogges Cruz’s attempts at spinning shit. Cruz has a cut under his eye to start the third round. Final round is a kickboxing match, with Hernandez winning out with better speed and accuracy. Cruz takedown right at the bell. Scores of 29-28, 30-27, and 29-28 all for Hernandez.

James Kirby vs Mauricio Blanco

Fighters box, then clench up and Blanco lands some knees. Coming out of the clench Blanco lands a series of hard left and right hooks. Kirby goes down under pressure and the action is quickly called. Blanco wins by TKO at 1:29 of Round One.

Juan Cardenas vs James Speer

Cardenas lands a hard punch to Speer’s forehead that floors him and immediately raises a huge welt. Speer comes back with a takedown to guard, but Cardenas counters with a fight-ending Guillotine Choke. Cardenas wins by Submission at 0:35 of Round One.

Richard Rigmaden vs Zachary Andrews

After some feints, Rigmaden draws first blood with a solid punch. Andrews comes back with a takedown and moves to mount, then back control. Andrews pounds away until the reg steps in. Andrews wins by TKO at 2:27 of Round One.

Ammy Fights

Anthony Beal vs Jordan Mapa

Beal with the reach advantage in the initial exchange. Mapa takedown but Beal sweeps. Mapa counters with an armbar. Beal punches free, landing hard shots before the bell. Mapa opens the second round with a hard hand to the jaw, but Beal somehow recovers. Hard strikes from both men to finish out the round. Third round the fighters slug it out till the final bell. 29-28 on all three cards for Jordan Mapa.

Gavin Hallinan vs Kevin Espinoza

Hallinan with the dynamic attack on both his striking and with his wrestling, after roughing up Espinoza on the feet and ground, finishes with a mid-air rear naked cock. Hallinan win by Submission at 1:47 of Round One.

Juan Avalos vs Joshua Schiling

Schiling scoring hits with his hands, especially when Avalos has trouble staying balanced when trying for takedowns. Avalos finally gets his takedown in the second round, taking the back and raining down punches, but Schiling survived. Third round Schiling defends the takedown, lands his punches and takes the round and the fight. 29-28 all for Schiling.

Brian Stegner vs Alex Mira

Stegner is quick with the takedown to half guard. Mira fights hard to get up, but is uncontrolled and Stegner is able to take the back and finish the fight with a Rear Naked Choke. Stegner wins by Submission at 0:35 of Round One.

Salma Del Real vs Edna Martinez

Wild punches to open from both fighters, fighters clench up after a Martinez takedown try and the action slows. The second round Del Real lands punches and a hard kick, but Martinez pushes her into the cage and lands knees in the clench. Martinez pins Del Real to cage for most of the third round as well. 30-27 on all three cards for Martinez, who takes the UD.

Tony Nguyen vs Ronnie Oyler

Nguyen makes quick work of his very first opponent, swarming with punches and not letting up until the fight is called. Nguyen wins by TKO, first round.

Fight Report: Nor Cal Fights/West Coast Fighting Championship

What was shaping up to be a good night of action is brought to a fustrating close when a fight in stands breaks out in the stands with three fights left to go on the card. Lots of chaos and a industrial-strenth pepper spray application later, the fights are called. So sadly we didn't see Fuffy vs Kito Andrews

Steven Gruber vs Jeremy Murphy, or Jordan Bailey vs Michael Bravo

Jack Duffy vs Nico Lozada

Flying knees from both fighters mean the meet mid-air. They hit the mat, Duffy on top in guard. Lozada trys to break free to the feet, but Duffy takes his back and finishes the fight with a Rear Naked Choke. Duffy wins by Submission at 2:49 of Round One.

Dilon Moore vs Nathan Feitosa

Fighters clench up, a pair of long Feitosa guillotine choke try come to naught. Fighters slug away with some space. Moore takedown at the bell. Moore knocks down his man to start the second, but Feitosa pops back up. Moore drags him to the mat, starts landing elbows. Feitosa’s face is cut to shreds. Fight is called. Moore wins by TKO at 3:04 of Round Two.

Michael Olson vs Joe Roye

Fighter both land punches to open. Olson takedown, Roye sweeps but Olso grabs a guillotine choke and Roye is done. Olson wins by Submission at 0:25 of Round One.

Brandon Bettencourt vs Trey Branch

Fighters trade fients then a takedown Bettencourt, Branch counters with a triangle choke. Bettencourts arm is in and he holds on. Branch switches to armbar, but Bettencourt is free into guard. Branch lands elbows to Bettencourt’s ear, but is dumped on his butt and Bettencourt moves to mount at the bell. Most of the second round Bettencourt controls in guard. He eats some elbows to get there, but Bettencourt is again on top in the third round. Ref stands them up, they trade kicks, Branch showboats a bit and gets taken down for his trouble. 29-28, 30-27, 30-27 all for Bettencourt who takes the UD.

Aarason Perry vs Antoine Smith

Fighters trade strikes, jabs from Perry, loaded up haymakers from Smith. Perry had the reach advantage and is wearing down Smith with a series of accurate strikes. Second Round more striking exchanges. Smith trys for a takedown but is backed up by Perry’s knees. Perry lands a series and punches and Smith looks hurt. More pressures from Perry and that’s the fight. Perry wins by TKO at 4:12 of Round Two

Ty Costa vs Matt Wagy

Wagy clips Costa with a punch as he moves forward and Costa’s knee buckle, but Costa grabes a leg, recovers, and takes down Wagy. After a long streach in guard, Wagy works his way back to the feet. Fighters box, Wagy with the advantage. Second round fighters box. Costa’s face is carved up, but he gets a takedown and Wagy is pinned against the fench. Wagy sweeps, takes the back, then lands punches from half guard. Third round Costa mixes punches and kicks, but Wagy keeps landing a heavy right hook. Wagy fends off takedown trys and keeps landing his punch. UD all for Matt Wagy.

Isaiah Wright vs Mefi Monterroso

Monterroso clips Wright with a hard right hand. Wright goes stif, Monterroso swarms on and gets the finish. Monterroso wins by KO at 0:15 of Round One.

Kaleio Romero vs Brady Wicklund

Wild opening round, filled with position changes and submission attempts from weird angles. Think of a full contact game of twister. Second round Wicklund opens with knees to the body, then tries for a ankle lock on the ground. Romero works free, starts landing ground and pound from guard, untill the bell. Romero opens the third round with hard punches. Wicklund misses his takedown try , Romero into side control. Wicklund rolls out, eats more punches, trys for kneebar before the bell. UD for Romero.

Travis Hyland vs Matt Aragoni for 145 pound title

First round Aragoni gets the quick takedown, controls the rest of the round, advancing to mount. Second round Aragoni again get the imediate takedown, trys to advance, but ends the round in a weird north-south position, siting on Hyland while Hyland has his legs in a body lock. Third round Aragoni again with a takedown, takes the back for moment. Hyland sweeps but is out of time. 30-27 on all three cards for your new champion Matt Aragoni.

Abner Perez vs Josh Dim

Dim throwing hard from the opening and very quickly lands his shots. Perez is stunned, and Dim follow up and the fight is called. Dim wins by KO at 0:31 of Round One

Great afternoon of action at the Alameda County Fairgrounds on Saturday as top prospects from the region’s best gyms did battle for titles and titles shots, for the cheers of the crowd and maybe a good write-up in Questionable Stoppage.

Let’s get to the action!

Josh Cunanan vs Jose Palacios

Technical fight with Cunanan using his reach with both punches and low kicks, while Palacios responds with counter-punches and leg sweeps. Slower pace in the second round with both fighters landing leg kicks and jabs. Early in the third round Palacio lands a kick/punch combination that puts Cunanan down for good. Jose Palacios wins by TKO at 0:47 of Round Three.

Armin Eusebio vs Sean Climaco

Hard exchanges of all eight limbs from each fighter, but defending Champ Climaco was more accurate and landed cleaner in the exchanges. Climaco upping the pressure in round two, landing strikes at an increasing pace, and Eusebio looking hurt. Third round Eusebio goes down under a flurry of Climaco strikes. He recovers, but not for long, as a body shot puts him down for good. Climaco wins by TKO at 1:17 of Round Three.

Derek Rodriguez vs Gabriel David

Fast and powerfull, David set the pace in the first round, landing a variety of kicks in the first two rounds. Third round Davis keeps up the pressure, mixing in flying knees and kicks to the wide variety of strikes he throws. Fourth round Ref Dan Snell has seen enough and calls the fight. David wins by TKO 1:48 of Round Four.

Christian Hernandez vs Marcel Warren

Hernandez pushed the pace, but Warren counters well. Second round highlight is Warren landing a high kick to the head. Both fighters tired as the rounds wear on but Warren lands the shots he needs. 49-46, 50-45, 50-45 all Marcell Warren

Marilena Badila vs Mary Ann Orsburn

Both lady’s brawl away, landing all kinds of punches and kicks with little mind to defense. Pace slows a bit in the second but the fighters keepbanging away, mixing low and middle kicks with punches. Third round the punching doesn't stop until the final bell. 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 all for Mary Ann Orsburn.

Benjamin Roberts vs Charles Rodriguez

Roberts uses his better reach to stand off Rodriguez and land punches, but once Rodriquez closes the distance his power is apparent. Second round see Rodriquez surging, landing leg kicks in combos with punches and shoving Roberts around in the clench. Third round Roberts land single punches from the outside, then Rodriquez comes inside with a flurry of punches. 30-27 on all three scorecards for Rodriquez.

Jamie Pheap vs Edwin De Los Santos for Featherweight Title Belt

Both fighters get cracks in off counters early, but it’s Pheap that keeps his momentum, landing high kicks and punch counters. Second round more even so, with the fighters trading flying knees in the clench. Los Santos out aggressive in the third round, knows he has ground to make up, Pheap stays loose and counters well. Fourth round Los Santos charges in but Pheap stay cool and lands his punches. Fighters slug away in the final round until the bell. 50-45, 49-46, 50-45 all for Pheap, your new champ.

Gabriel Ramirez vs Juan Rodriguez

Even in the first round, both fighters connecting with single punches and leg kicks. Second round Ramirez scores a knockdown with a straight right hand Rodriquez is desperate and throws a spinning elbow and misses, while Ramirez is landing punch after punch clean to his man’s chin. 30-26, 29-27, 30-26 UD for Gabriel Ramirez

Blake Benson vs Andrew Coyne

First blood Coyne with an overhand right followed by a takedown. Benson fights hard to get off his back but Coyne maintains his advantage in a variety of positions. Benson back to feet for the bell. Second round and Coyne with a takedown. Benson with knees to the body off his back, Coyne with punches. Benson tries for an armbar but Coyne passe to side control. More punches from Coyne Benson sweeps in the final seconds of the round. Third round and Coyne once again gets his takedown. Coyne working hard to advance, but Benson just as hard to defend leaves Coyne little time to strike. Still he controls the action from several different positions. Andrew Coyne takes the title by unanomous decision.

Kaleio Romero vs Philip Hattersley Lightweight Title

Hattersley looking to charge in, but Romero turns the momentum with a hip toss. Romero landing punches in knee on belly. Back to feet. Fighters trade knees and dirty boxing. Hattersley charges forward once again and Romero is waiting for him with a right hand. Hattersley is stunned, looks to grab a leg but Romero hammers him some more and that the fight. Romero wins by TKO at 1:05 of Round One.

Charles Jelks vs Justin Cornell

Cornell lands some kicks but gets taken down. Cornell with an armbar, not only does Jelks not tap he yells at the ref not to call it. Jelks get free and in on top, Cornell is still looking for the sub. Jelks advances to side control Jelks tries for armbar but Cornell sweeps and land shots at the bell. Second round Jelks steps inside a Cornell kick, takes the back and rides him to the ground. Jelks with the Rear Naked Choke finish. Cornell disputes the tap and storms off in protest. Charles Jelks win by Submission at 0:59 of Round Two.

Arlene Culbreth vs Anita Hoehenleiter

Huge hight advantage for Hoehenleiter. Culbreth is looking to get inside, but Hoehneleiter isn’t going to let her come in untouched. Knees and punches from Hoehenleiter. Culbreth is down with a busted snout, she turtles up and that’s the fight. Hoehenleiter wins by TKO at 0:44 of the Round One.

Shawn Birkley vs Tony Charles

Birkley big slam takedown to start but Charles pop back up. Second takedown by Birkley. Charles with sub trys, then sweeps and back to feet. Fighter trade positions until Charles settles in top position and pounds Birley out. Charles wins by TKO at 2:03 of Round One.

Dyllan Snavely vs Eddie Smith

Snavely cracks some leg kicks to open, adds some jabs, but never pushes the pace. More hard leg kicks from Snavely in the second. Start of some offense from Smith, but nothing connects. Snavely content with landing leg kicks. Flashes of action in the third, Snavely landing combos. And some more leg kicks. UD for Dyllan Snavely.

Noe Flores vs Jonathan Fields

Flores lands hard punches and Fields is hurt. Takedown Flores and he knocks him out cold. Scary cold. Flores wins by KO at 0:16 of Round One.

Edward Egan vs Camilo Mejia

Fighter clench, trade knees for most of the first round. Second round Mejia shoots, Egan defends, and they are back to the clench. Mejia gets his takedown, lands some punches but runs out of time. Mejia sidesteps a Egan rush and puts him on his back. Mejia mount, then takes back. Long fight from Egan, but Mejia finished with a Rear Naked Choke. Mejia by Submission at 1:45 of Round Three.

Dalton Hogle vs Richard Catanach

Well matched fighters trade punche combos and leg kicks for most of the first round. Last second takedown Hogle. Second round both fighters land jabs and miss flying kicks. Takedown Hogle to half guard. Catanach working hard but can’t break free. Good punches from Catanach to open the third, but Hogle comes back with a takedown. Hogle controls from half guard, doing just enought to keep the fight on the ground. Catanach tries a guilotine, but is shaken off. UD for Hogle

David Solorzano vs Abner Perez

Solorzano lands some punches and the fighters clench. Solorzano takedown, Perez counters with a guilotine choke. Perez pops up land some punches, Solorzano counters hard. Solorzano hurts his man with a punch to open round two, but Perez recovers in clench. Slick trip from Solorzano. Perez gives up his back and eats knees and punches. Solorzano opens the third with a hard kick-punch combo and Perez is in survival mode on the ground. Ref stands them up. Perez on his back again, Solorzano landing punches to the bell. UD for Solorzano.

Blake Degmetich vs Pedro Lopez

Loaded up strikes, both punches and kicks from both men at the start. Fighters trade knees in the clench. Second round Lopez landing punches, Degmetich hammers home some high kicks. Both fighters landing hard. Lopez doesn’t clear a doctor’s inspection between the rounds. Degmetich wins by TKO (Doctor Stoppage) at 2:00 of Round Two.

Brandon Sells vs Dusty Young

Young striking early with leg kicks, Sells looking to punch. Trip takedown Sells, but Young throws up a triangle choke off his back. Sell defends until the bell. Second round Young fights through a guilotine choke to mount. Sells sweeps. Young struggle to hold off Sells advance until the bell. Third round is ground out by both fighters in the clench, with a last second trip takedown at the bell by Sells. Young takes the split decision with scores of 30-27, 28-29 and 30-27.

Jeffrey Shaby vs Rogelio Guerrero

Guerrero land a front kick to open and puts his man on the ground and takes the back when Shaby tries to rush in. Guerrero then finishes with a Rear Naked Choke. Guerrero wins by Submission at 1:29 of the first round.

Angel DeAnda vs Mike Jasper

Fighter feel each other out, then clench up against the cage. Jabs from Jasper, DeAnda looking to land his power punch. Long clench as fighter struggle for position. Second round, both fighters are looking to strike. Jasper is backing up. DeAnda with punches, Jasper cracks a leg kick. Fighters trade punches and DeAnda's power is showing, Jasper is cracked several times and knocked down at the bell. Third round DeAnda presses him man into the cage, and dirty boxes him. Fighter trade punches, then Jasper tries for a single leg and is stuffed. DeAnda lands more inside punches, then Jasper gets a takedown, but DeAnda is quickly back to his feet. Time is short and the fighters are letting loose with the heavy shots, but neither can find the final shot. Unanimous Decision for Angel DeAnda.

Lewis Gonzalez vs Bobby Nash

A few kicks to start before Ganzalez shoots. Nash defends and controls Gonzalez with a headlock before they separate. Fighter trade leg kick and power punches, each showing respect for the other’s power. Gonzalez is cut high on his head. Nash’s takedown is stuffed. Seconds into the second round Gonzalez goes down hard after a punch and Nash piles on. The fight is called. Nash is your winner by TKO just 5 seconds into the Second Round.

Sam Toomer vs Adrian Diaz

Toomer agressive early with leg kicks. Fighter circle, trade high kicks. Fighter keep their distance , with the pace escalating as time wears on. Toomer landing more often. Second round Toomer opens with leg kicks, Diaz replys with a cup check, Diaz on Toomer with a swarm of punches, but Toomer fights him off. Toomer goes to town with a series of leg kicks. Diaz not stopping, and lands hard shots of his own, Toomer is down, and Diaz is landing follow-up, but Toomer is in survival mode, and doing all he can to stay alive. Toomer holds on until the bell. Third round Toomer follows a leg kick with a right hook, Diaz is dropped, Toomer swarms, but Diaz somehow gets back to the feet. Both fighter are hurt and tired, but they continue to trade, mostly dirty boxing in the clench. Unanimous Decision for Sam Toomer.

Martin Sandoval vs Joby Sanchez

Quick punches landing early for Sandoval. Fighter clench, break, swing, clench on a regular cycle. Sanchez counters well. Sandoval drag Diaz down by the waist but Sanchez takes the top position. Second round fight hits the ground, Sanchez on top in guard. Sanchez lands punches. Sanchez throws punches, work hard, and eventually lock D’arce Choke. Sanchez wins by Submission.

Anthony Hernandez vs Jumoke Hunter

Fighter trade hard punches from close range, then knees in the clench. They separate, and Hernandez is landing punches and kicks. The fighter clench up and fall awkwardly, but its Hernandez that takes advantage with a Guillotine Choke. Hernandez wins by Submission at 3:09 of Round One.

Edward Thommes vs Tyler Diamond

Fighter throwing heavy from the opening bell. Fighters clench and battle for position, Diamond grabs the back standing but can’t capitalize on the position. Leg kicks Thommes, power punches from Diamond. Hard strikes close from Diamond, but Thommes shrugs them off. Nasty punches from Diamond to start round two. Diamond gets a takedown but can keep Thommes on the mat. Diamond aggressive, but Thommes game, landing elbows in the clench.Third round more standing exchange, with Diamond the aggressor, but Thommes not giving an inch. Unanimous Decision for Diamond.

Jessica Sanchez vs Cynthia Calvillo

Calvillo eats a punch, then gets a trip takedown. Calvillo takes the back and is looking to choke. Sanchez defends the RNC, so Calvillo switches to punches. Sanchez takes a number of punches, but is able to keep clear of the choke despite a long stretch in a very bad position. Second round, brief striking, then its Calvillo with the same takedown as the first round. Calvillo moves to mount. Calvillo lands punches and elbows. Sanchez struggle to break free, can't and turtles up under the punishment. Ref makes the call. Calvillo wins by TKO at 3:38 of Round Two.

Gerald Bailey vs Joseph Morales

Fighters circle looking for an opening, Fighters fall, Morales on top, but Bailey working a guillotine. Morales takes the back. Bailey fights hard, but falls to a rear naked choke, Morales by submission at 3:38 of Round One.

Chuck Sean vs Danny Ramirez

Fight blood Ramirez who grabs a Sean kick and clocks him with an over hand right. Fighters clench, seperate and trade punches. Both fighters land shots as the striking exchange continues to the bell. Second round Ramirez turns a caught kick into a takedown, but he can’t keep Sean down. Sean with kicks, Ramirez punches. Sean doing damage, including a knee to counter a Ramirez takedown attempt. Ramirez with a takedown, swarms with punches and fights off an arm bar. Back to feet, fighter continue to trade hurtful blows. Third round both fighters are tired and bloody, Ramirez lands a hard shot inside the clench, and Sean’s knees give out. Ramirez follows up with punches. Ramirez wins by TKO at 1:32 of Round Three.

Idress Wasi vs Nick Kohring

Fighters clench up and struggle for position. Kohring drags down Wasi and into mount. Wasi defends and gets to guard, then a ref stand up. Fighters trade punches and taunts. Kohring takedown and lands punches. Kohring in half guard locks up the Kimora and ends the fight. Kohring wins by Submission at 2:50 of Round One.

Sergio Vazquez vs Angelo Trevino

Trevino starts strong with a cutting leg kick, follows up with a takedown. Trevino advances to back control and lays in a series of fight-stopping punches. Trevino wins by TKO at 1:21 of Round One.

Hard punches from Wamsley to open, Stovall replies with nees. Breef trip to mat, fighter pop up in clench. Wamsley finally drags Stovall down, start landing ground and pound. Wamsley takes the back, lands more punches before transitioning to a fight-end armbar. Wamsley wins by Submission at : of Round One.

Daniel Gonzalez vs Kyle Gothan for the TC Featherweight Title

Fighter feeling each other out with jabs and leg kicks. Gonzalez lands a punch and Gothan lands stiff on his back. The ref calls the fight to instant protest and boos from the crowd. Gonzalez wins by TKO at 1:01 of Round One.

Sean Nelson vs Brady Wicklund

Sharp striking exchange to start, then a take down by Wicklund. Nelson tries to roll out, but Wicklund gains back control and finishes the fight with a Rear Naked Choke. Wicklund wins by Submission at 1:11 of Round One.

Jerry Hickman vs Michael O’Leary

Leg kick Hickman, counter-punch O’Leary with a takedown follow-up. O’Leary moves from half-guard to triangle choke attempt, eats punches for his trouble. O’Leary locks down the Triangle Choke to finish the fight. O’Leary wins by Submission at 1:58 of Round One

Calob Ramirez vs Xavier Johnson

Fighter scramble for position after Johnson grabs a leg kick. Ramirez settles into half guard and land a series of hard punches to Johnson’s ribs, then takes the back and finishes with a Rear Naked Choke.

Michael Gilliland vs Alokoa George

Wild opening as fighters trade strikes and struggle for position in the clench and on the ground, changing level quickly. Gilliland blocks a series of punches, then drags George down to mount in the final seconds. Second round Gilliland first punch staggers George and he climbs on to mount and about a dozen hard punches to the head later, the Ref calls the action. Gilliland wins by TKO at 1:06 of Round Two.

Brian Calvillo vs Keli Callison

Calvillo delivers a hard opening punch. Calvillo changes levels and settles into half guard, but Callison is able to sweep at the bell. Callison with a good punch and a glancy head kick before he shoots for a take down. Works to back control, land hard punches, but Calvillo sweeps at the bell. Third round Callison shoots, but it's Calvillo on top throwing punches. 29-28 on all cards for Keli Callison.

Jordan Vazquez vs Joshua Dim

Both men go at it with reckless abandon. Someone was bound to get wrecked and Vazquez does a faceplant hard after a Dim punch. Dim wins by KO at 0:23 of Round One.

Zach Costa vs Salvador Martinez

Fight is scored 30-27. 28-29, 29-29 for a Draw

Matt Zonfrello vs Eduardo Perez

Both fighters land heavy punches to start and don’t let up. Perez knocks out Zonfrello’s mouthpiece, but picks up a cut over the eye. Zonfrello with a late takedown to half guard. Second Round round Zonfrello is hurt, grabs a leg, but Perez keeps landing punches from above. Zonfrello eventually get on top in guard, but take a lot of punishment first. Third round slobber knocker, and Zonfrello is a bloody mess. So bloody the Fight Doctor calls the fight. Perez wins by TKO (Doc Stoppage) 1:43 of the Third Round.

Jesse Sanchez vs Zeke Ruiz

Ruiz with a big slam of a take down to mount. Ref warning trigger a stand up, but Ruiz get another takedown to end the round. Round Two Ruiz is again on top, this time in side control. Third round again see Ruiz dominating in mount with Sanchez having nowhere to go. 30-27 on all three cards for Ruiz.

Brad Renton vs Shota Geperidze

Renton opens with leg kicks, Geperidze with punches. Renton drags his man to the ground and takes his back but isn’t able to get his choke in. Renton lands some hard single punches, but Geperideze stays in it, and lands some body shots. Geperidze lands a punch combo near the end of the round that clearly hurts Renton. Third round Renton dive in for a takedown, Geperidze ends up on his knees against the cage. Ref stand up. Renton with a long take down try that is eventually stuffed. 29-28 on all three cards for Shota Geperidze.

Nicholas Dillman vs Edward Egan

Egan opens with a take down and keeps the pressure on, landing punches and looking to isolate an arm. Dillman works back to the feet, only to be put on his back again after a stuffed takedown try. Second round and Egan is again on top and controls the round in that position. Third round opens again with an Egan take down, but Egan has to work hard to stay off an armbar attempt. Egan on top for the remainder of the round. 30-27 on all three cards for Egan.

Meet the Ring Card Girl: Taylor La Force

Normally here at the poorly-lit and seldom-cleaned Questionable Stoppage HQ, we slave away in our tiny cubicles, typing out the fight reports you count on. But every so often, a ray of sunlight comes into our dark little lives and recently we were able to host Taylor La Force, Ring Girl for Arise FC and Conquer MMA for a photoshoot and interview.

Questionable Stoppage: Who are you? Where are you from? Where are you going?

Taylor La Force: I'm Taylor Brooke La Force Brand Mielke, but you can call me Tay. I'm from the big city, otherwise known as Fiddletown. Growing up in Amador County, I lived a pretty sheltered life. Once I hit 17, I knew I had to get as far away from that tiny little town as possible and that's where my journey began. I don't know where I'll settle down permanently, but I'd like to travel as much as possible before making that decision.

QS: How did you break into the old and august profession of Ring Card Girl?

TLF: I have the amazing owner of True Fight Club to thank for that! I started training there when I worked in recruiting in Hayward and fell in love with the sport. The owner, Evan, coordinated for all of us to go see Bellator Dynamite at the SAP center and that's when I decided I wanted to be a ring girl so I could have the best seat in the house. He sent out my photos to one of the coordinators at Arise Muay Thai and that's where I worked my first event as a ring girl. I had the pleasure of meeting someone that night that worked for Conquer MMA and I've been with them since their origination.

QS: So you train kickboxing yourself, and are in the military. How many ways do you have to kill me sitting here right now?

TLF: Well I'd tell you, but I'd much rather catch you by surprise 

😉 Basically, I'm a little on the lethal side. But whether I knock you out with a head kick, shoot you with my M4 or M9, violence is purely for sport or protection. I'm honestly a very peaceful person, I just know what to do if you break that peace.

QS: Follow the fights? Do you have a favorite fighter, local scene or national/UFC?

TLF: I absolutely do! On the UFC side, I look up to Miesha Tate more than anyone. She's beautiful, intelligent, and an incredibly skilled fighter, win or lose.  For Bellator, I absolutely love Josh Thompson. I've seen him fight the last three times he's been in San Jose and I've been fortunate enough that he's made appearances at the last two fights I've worked. 

QS: What do you do when not circling the cage?

TLF: Outside of the cage, I work as a Banker in Roseville and train Muay Thai in Sacramento. I'd love to compete myself someday so that's something I'm actively working toward. Outside of work and the gym, I'm also legal studies student at ARC and am serving in the Army National Guard as a Technical Engineer. 

QS: Any shows or events coming up where we can see you?

Fight Report: Hard Steel 3

It was fighting with county style as the Broken Spoke in San Jose hosted Hard Steel MMA. It was a night of young prospects out to prove themselves, many getting that first taste of full contact fighting. How did that first taste go down? Keep reading.

Aritra Roy vs Mark Climaco for Flyweight Championship.

Kicks from Climaco to open. Hard punches from Roy. Leg kicks from Climaco sound like they sting. Roy presses in with a punch combo, but Climaco catches him moving forward flush on the chin with a right hand. Roy is stunned, Climaco puts on the pressure with more punches and the fight is called. Climaco wins by TKO at 1:18 of the very first round.

Steven Antonio vs Carlos Hernandez Hard Steel Bantamweight Title

Fast punches and tackle take down attempts from both men, both neither can keep the other down. Low blow from Hernandez. After the reset Antonio lands a punch and Hernandez goes stiff. Hernandez with a desperation takedown try, Antonio put him on his back in mount and lands a fight-ending series of punches. Steven Antoio wins by TKO at 1:28 of Round One.

Hector Fajardo vs Joshua Ream for Hard Steel Featherweight Title

Ream is looking take down from the start. It takes a couple of tries, but gets his man down. The fighters twist and roll, looking for advantage. Fajardo is looking for an arm bar, Ream counters with knees to the body. Second round, Ream over commits to the take down, Fajardo takes his back, Ream sweeps, but Fajardo locks up a triangle off his back. Ream holds on till the bell. Punches and clenches from both fighters in the third. Fajardo tries a pull guard guillotine choke with just seconds left in the fight, but Ream is able to fight free. Split Decision with scores of 29-28, 28-29, 29-28 for Ream, your new Champion.

Rudy Revillas vs Pedro Lopez

Lopez floors Revillas with a high kick and swarms on with flurry of punches. Revillas gets back to his feet. Fighter trade and Lopez again gets a knockdown, and is landing punches on the ground to the bell. Revillas is aggressive to open the second, but needs to mind his balance, as Lopez pounces on his stumbles. Lopez takes the back and get the Rear Naked Choke finish. Pedro wins by Submission at 0:43 of Round Two.

Steven Tandoi vs Stephen Hernandez

Fight trade knees and wrestle hard for position. Tandoi settle in on top, land punches and advances to mount. Hernandez holds on until the bell. Second round, big slam takedown by Tandoi, who goes to work in side control. Hernandez sweeps. Tandoi trys for armbar, but Hernandez punches out. Third round, Tandoi out agress with anouth take down. Hernandez tries for an armbar but give up his back. Hernandez puts up a long fight, but Tandoi finishes with the Rear Naked Choke. Tandoi wins at 1:38 by Submission at of Round Three.

Gerard Frantz vs Elias Anderson

Anderson turns a wast clench into a suplex. Once on the ground he quickly takes the back and sinks in a Rear Naked Choke. Frantz holds out a wee too long and is sent to dreamland. Anderson wins by Submission at 0:55 of Round One.

David Dzasokhov vs Fredy Sangerman

Dazasokhov catches an early kick for a quick takedown. Sangerman works back to feet only to be thrown to the mat again. Dzasokhov advances to back control and lands punches until the call.

Sean Cruz vs Ronald Davis

Both fighter throwing ill-intentioned punches right from the start. Davis’s power quickly shows, and Cruz goes down, Davis with a couple of follow-up punches and that’s the fight. Davis wins by TKO at 0:35 of the very first round.

Dominic Hill vs Andrew Herrera

Hill with punches, Herrera with leg kicks. Hill cuts Herrera leg out from under him and jumps on top. Herrera ties him up, then puts him on his back, fighters roll for position to end the round. Fighter box it out for the second round. Herrera presses in and lands dirty boxing and a takedown. Hill tries for armbar but gives up mount, Herrera runs out of time to take advantage of the great position. No wasting time for Herrera in the third, he scores a take down and goes straight to mount. Herrera slugs away from mount and back control before finishing with a Rear Naked Choke. Andrew Herrera wins by Submission at 1:19 of Round Three.

Aaron Turchie vs Eric Norzagaray

Fighters clench almost immediately, Noragaray drags his man to the mat. Noragray advances to half guard and then takes the back, but Turchie withstands a Rear Naked Choke and works free at the end of the round. Fighter trade knees in clench to open round two. Fight then open up with fighters trading punches and leg kicks. Take down Noragaray to end the round. Take down Turchie to open round three. Not much offence from Turchie, but he keeps Norzagaray on his back. 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 all for Norzagaray.

Jason Wong vs Jordan Vazquez

Wong stumbles trying a kick, Vazquez jumps on top, fights off sub attempts. Ref reset to the feet, Vazquez with a dramatic hip toss right at the bell. Fighters manuver for position a the top of the second before Vazquez gets a take down and advances to half guard. Upkick from Wong draws a warning. Final take down Vazquez at the bell. Third round Vazquez chases down Wong a floors him with some punches, then jumps into guard. Vazquez avoids a triangle try and lands a series of hard punches to end the fight. Jordan Vazquez wins by TKO (Strikes) at 1:05 of Round Three.

Vallejo was alive with the sound of people getting punched in the face as the Solano County Fair was host to a night of Ammy MMA action on Friday night.

Joseph Cardoso vs Diego Lopez for No Limit Middleweight Title

Fighter feeling each other out early. Lopez is pressing forward, shrugging off Cardoso’s punches to close and grapple and punch inside. Second round fighter are throwing with reckless abandon. Cardoso drives forward for a take down, getting it on his second effort. Fighters are back to their feet at the bell. Third round the fighters are trading strikes once again. Leg kicks from Cardoso. Punch combos from Lopez. Cardoso take down to mount, but Lopez sweeps in the final seconds of the fight. Split Decision 29-28, 28-29, and 29-28 for Cardoso who retains his title by the narrowest of margins.

Luke Folkens vs Andrew Priolo

Priolo looking dangerous with kicks, but Folkens floors him with a pair of hooks. Priolo recovers in the clench, but is again hurt by heavy handed hooks from Folkens. Fighter circle, Priolo has a massive swelling on his forehead. Folkens lands an overhand right that drops Priolo for good. Put a star next to Folkens’ name. This is a talent to watch. Folkens wins by KO at 2:30 of Round One.

Felix Howard vs Raymond Lopez

Lots of dirty boxing to open and both fighters pummel each other from close range. Howard fights past a guillotine choke to attack from half guard. Lopez works back to feet, only to be taken down again. Second round sees early take down for Howard. Lopez sweeps to mount and then back control. Lopez trys for a RNC, but Howard twists out and advances to half guard. Lopez regains the advantage in the final seconds of the round. Third round the fighter are once again trading from close range. Takedown Howard, advances to half guard, but then Lopez sweeps. One restart latter, Lopez runs out the clock landing ground and pound. 29-28 on all three cards for your winner Raymond Lopez.

Kacey Sanders vs Dan Chadwin

Some early trading and then the range closes to the clench. Sanders pulls guard, looking for an armbar, but Chadwin works free, gets to side, then back control. Chadwin beats Sanders about the ears until the fight is over. Chadwin wins by TKO at 1:43 of Round One.

Tyler Grech vs Jesse Lezama

Grech catches an early kick for a quick take down, but Lezama keeps his head, locking in the Triangle Choke off his back and quickly putting an end to the fight. Lezama wins by Submission at 0:32 of Round One.

Anthony Beal vs Isaac Lappert

Beal with the reach advantage in the early striking. Fighters clench up and Lappert throws down a big slam of a takedown, but Beal escapes at the bell. Beal striking well to open the second. After a Beal slip, Lappert jumps on, but Beal defends with butterfly guard and regains his feet at the bell. Third round Beal is hitting with kicks and sprawling again Lappert’s take down. Lappert with some athletic wrestling to get him down, but Beal is able to sweep. 29-28 on all three card for Anthony Beal.

Felicia Laroco vs Gillian Ashdown

Ladies are banging away from the opening bell, unsteady at first but with increasing confidence as the fight wore on. Fight goes to the ground at the end of the round. Ashdown opens the second round with a take down and quickly moves to mount. Laroco is struggling for dear life despite the terrible position and Ashdown can’t get a rhythm going with her ground and pound, but holds the advantage till the bell. In the third, it takes a struggle, but Ashdown again with a take down to mount. Ashdown is raining down punches, with Laroco just keeping enough defense going to keep the fight from ending. Ashdown claims the Unanimous Decision.

Elliott Escovedo vs Eduardo Perez

Both fighters aggressive to start, throwing heavy power shots. Escovedo lands several punches, but Perez buckles his knees with a hard punch of his own. Excovedo looks to change levels, but ends up on his back with Perez throwing down punches until the bell. Second round Escovedo stumbles and Perez is all over him, finishing the fight in mount. Eduardo Perez wins by TKO at 0:35 of Round Two.

Ben Reynoso vs Dusty Young

Young dive in immediately for a take down and just as quickly moves into mount. Several hard punches later and its over. Young wins by TKO at 0:51 of Round One.

Mark Henderson II vs Andrew Johnson-Cabrera

J-C stings Henderson in the initial exchange, then Henderson catches a kick for a take down. J-C work an inverse triangle with the two fighters in north-south position for the second half of the fight, but runs out of time. Second round J-C is faster trading strikes, so Henderson again gets a takedown and goes to work from side control. Third round J-C opens with kicks and Henderson is stunned. J-C jumps on his back, but Henderson is able to recover and sweep. 29-28 on all three card for Andrew Johnson-Cabrera.

Noe Flores vs Nathaniel Bicek

Flores puts his man down with a suplex, takes the back and patiently lays in the ground and pound until the fight is finished. Flores wins by TKO at 1:38 of Round One.

Victor Fregoso vs Michael Bueno

Fregoso with an early take down, but Bueno grabs a guillotine choke off his back and puts Fregoso to sleep. Bueno wins by Technical Submission at 0:53 of Round One.
