I have been to quite a few monasteries but the Namdroling Monastery stands out because of its lovely vibrant colors. Not to be missed if going to Coorg.

Dedicated to the teachings of wisdom and compassion of the Buddha and the palyul Lineage of the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism. located amidst the Sandal groves a 60 KMs from Kaveri Nisargadhama , few hours from Bangalore & Mysore in Karnataka South India. Namdroling monastery was established by his Holliness Pema Norbu Rinpoche shortly after he came to India from Tibet with only 300 rupees in his hand and with just a handful of Monks, he laid the foundation stone of the three storied main temple that then covered an area of 80 sq feet. His Holliness the Dalai Lama Consecrated the spot and bequeathed the name "Namdroling Monastery". Today the Monastery is home to nearly 5000 Monks & nuns, renowned as a center for the pure upholding of the teachings of the Buddha.

After visiting to monastery I had some food with my tourmates at Tibet kitchen hotel which is just nearby the Monastery and we also took some rest nearby the Monastery and again we started our journey back to Bangalore in evening with our two wheeler bike.

It was really a memorable tour for us and we enjoy the whole trip fully.

The Bylakuppe Buddhist Golden Temple is one of the most visited tourist spot in Coorg whereby the timings of this Monastery is from 9 AM to 6 PM for all days.

The perfect time to visit Bylakuppe Buddhist Golden Temple is during the Tibetan New year (Losar) which is generally held in the month of February or March. During this festival season various forms of Masked dance in their colorful attire is witnessed performing their traditional dances in their main courtyard throughout the festival.The specialty of this time is that the main courtyard turns into an open stage for masked dancers and performer to present a spectacular performance in their own traditional music.

Reaching at Bylakuppe Buddhist Golden Temple

Bylakuppe Golden Temple monastery is located at a distance of 6 Km from kusalganj in Kodagu which is the nearest town, Madikeri is the another town which is situated about 35 Km from the Monastery. If you are travelling to the Golden Temple monastery from kusalganj then you are requested to follow the Mysore/Madikeri road till you cross the Kaveri river bridge. After crossing the bridge it's about a 200 M drive from where you can spot a board to the Monastery.The another-way to reach the Golden Temple is that you hire a taxi from Mysore which is about 90 Km way you can either take a bus as well.

Mawsmai Cave Cherapunjee

During my four years of College life in Shillong, I used to frequently visit Cherapunjee and a matter of fact is that everytime I used to visit Cherapunjee.I also Visited Mawsmai Cave.

No doubt waterfall, Clouds & Mountains are the key elements of Meghalaya's nature but Mawsmai Cave has its own value proving itself is one of the best Caves of Meghalaya.

The Mawsmai Cave opens at nearly 7 AM and close around 6:30 PM .

The parking of Vehicles cost is classified on the basis of 2 wheelers & 4 Wheelers whereby, the cost of 2 wheelers parking is Rs. 50/- approx and 4 Wheelers parking is around Rs.100/-.

There are various types of restaurant outside Mawsmai, Cave where you can find different kind of local food of Meghalaya.

Important:- One must leave Cave before 6:30 AM. Caves remains open on all day.

Out of the 10 longest Caves the first 9 are in Meghalaya and the 10th one is situated in Mizoram.

The longest Cave in Meghalaya is Krem Liat Prah in the Jaintia hills which is about 101,600 ft and the word Krem means Cave in the local language in Khasi.

Mawsmai Cave is at a Stone throw away from Sohra and is about 57 Km from Shillong in the little Village of Mawsmai. Contrary to the usual tourist spot the Mawsmai Cave was pretty deserted and only a few group were allowed to explore the cave earlier.

There is a short trek through the forest to reach Mawsmai Cave and the trek takes you through some mesmerizing view of the valley consisting full of waterfalls, during the monsoon and even has an Occasional Cafe playing Khasi Music.

Some of the offbeat shaft of the narrow tunnel inside the Mawsmai Cave were clearly marked as prohibited ares.

The excess to the main Cave system is safe and well marked by safety sign which were lit by artificial light to see the fossils. The fossils was of prehistoric Creatures preserved in time on the walls of the Cave.

How to reach Arwah Cave Cherapunjee

Meghalaya is termed as the "Abode of Clouds" . The first thing that comes in your mind is that the State is full of Clouds, Mountains, Waterfall and etc.

I am a Solo traveler who has a great Opportunity and experience and and it always gave me an extra opportunity to explore each and every parts of Shillong, Meghalaya. During my Solo travel , I met with new people from different culture and tribes and made new friends localties who helped me to explore new and hidden places which are offbeat for any tourist destination that many travelers wouldn't know.

We always have more excitement in the unknown and the mystique places and North-East States of India never end to surprise and inspire us.Most of the stunning sights of the Meghalaya are rain-forest, Waterfall, living root bridge, mountains drives under dramatic clouds. Mysterious natural Caves, Crystal clear water of river and the most open minded friendly people I ever met.

The places to explore in Shillong Meghalaya are really very cheap and affordable for tourist.

One fine day I was travelling to Cherapunjee and my Cab driver suggested me that there is a gorgeous Cave in Cherapunjee which is walking distance and I'm sure you will love the Cave after visiting it.

So I traveled to Arwah Cave.

A pleasant walk by the nature on the way to Arwah Cave.

There are two paths to reach the Cave which is from the parking zone.One is rugged trail and other is pleasant walk.It takes approx 20-25 minutes to reach the entrance of the Cave.

Surrounded by the thick forest of Lumsina in Cherapunjee Meghalaya. Arwah Cave is an absolute treat for adventure and Archaeologist.

The Cave itself is a relatively new discover and has speedily qualified as one of the " must-seen" attractions of Cherapunjee.The Cave itself is a significant larger than the Mawsmai Cave but the sad point is that only a small part of the Cave has been open for the tourist visit.

Cave is about 300 meter which takes approx 20 minutes to explore the Cave.

The Arwah Cave is known for their Limestone formation and the fossils which are believed to be 30 millions years of old fossils. It was very beautiful with some ice like formation above it and the fossils of Marine animals, sea shells can be found inside the Caves.

Things to carry while visiting Arwah Caves-

As per my travel experience on this cave it's generally dark and is advisable for all tourist to always carry torch light or Mobile flash light with you. The Arwah Cave is relatively new with less tourism,so it is a best offbeat destination in India.

HOW TO REACH THE CAVE?

The only possible way to reach the Shillong is roadway from Guwahati otherwise one can take a helicopter ticket service and the Helicopter Service Charge is nearly Rs. 1500/-

From Police Bajar Shillong you have to hire a local Cab for the respective tourist spot.The Journey of Cherapunjee will be very smooth, satisfying and safe all the way. During journey you can find the views of dramatic moving clouds and fogs all the way.

WHAT ARE THE LOCAL FOOD YOU COULD TRY IN SHILLONG?

Shillong is a place where you can get various types of local food like-Jadoh, Khapa, Tungrymbai etc. and even street food of Shillong is Something you must try.

Cherry blossom festival is one of the major festival of Japanese Ohanami on which one of the importance form of sustainability is the continuation of their traditional process. Cherry blossom is the symbol of Spring arrival where communal aspect where paintings or Photography, seasonal foods where used to celebrate the ephemeral aspects of Spring, blossom and life.

ABOUT SHILLONG

Cherry blossom festival in Shillong. The festival is usually scheduled to take place in the month of November last year it was held from 13-16th Nov, at a time when wooden forests of Shillong will turn pink due to the blooming of thousands & thousands of Cherry blossoms across the entire region. Cherry trees have been planted at Mawphlong, New Shillong, Ward's lake and the Umniam lake Barapani -Shilong road.

Besides the amazing sight of Cherry blossoms all over the place including upper Shillong, Ward's lake and etc, the festival also features interesting activities for bloggers, traveler, bike rallies and photo contest.

The Meghalaya "abode of Clouds"

The places that I visited during my exploration in Shillong are- Umniam Lake, Krang-suri Waterfalls, Umngot river, Dawki & Laitlum.

The best moments that inspired me about Shillong is the nature of beauty distinguished in many forms described below-

Day 1:- Umniam lake, barapani Shillong

The best part of Travelling in Umniam lake was to watch the peaceful nature with an amazing breeze hiting me .

It was so pleasing to watch the nature take its course pleasing our eyes and soul.

My friend Devpriyo was surprised watching the change in my mood turned enlightened. But the weather there was quite cold and adorable.

I was lost in the moment of time was the peaceful Umniam lake and felt the presence of mother nature.

This was the first spot we visited and it turned out to be astonishing mesmerising.

Day 2:- Krangsuri waterfalls, Jaintia hills,Jowai

On second day, our journey started for Krangsuri waterfalls which is precisely 84Kms away from Shillong City. Krangsuri waterfalls is an exotic waterfalls in the jaintia hills District. Its Located nearby a sleepy town of Amlarem Village. It is also considered as one of the top five waterfalls to see in Meghalaya.

The district administration has transformed the place into a tourist destination by constructing chiseled footpaths and standing viewpoints to let the visitors captured the realm beauty of the waterfalls. At 40feet height, and it forms a deep crystal blue pool below.

The concrete foothpaths are made from the natural stones, and placing them symmetrically to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the area that ends to giant Cascade.

Day 3:- Umngot River camp, Dawki

On third day our journey for Dawki river which is a short ride from Shillong in Meghalaya and lies on the border of the jaintia /khasi hills which is besides the end of India-Bangladesh border. It looks truly exquisite as its clear emerald colour glistens against the surroundings.

Winters are the best time to visit this lake as there are less tourists and one can enjoy the beauty of this place at peace. You can take a smooth boat ride without much hassle and feel as if you are floating in air. Its crystals clear waters let you see till the bottom of the lake.

Day 4 :-Laitlum Cynon

On next morning our journey to Laitlum, it was so fun exploring these places in the north-eastern part of our country . Perched in east khasi Hills of Shillong, Laitlum canyon is a little -mawsmai haunt of the mountaneous state of Meghalaya. At laitlum one can see are breathtaking gorges and steep winding stairways that snake their way down to the lush valley.

You can see the endless horizon where the mountains meeting the infinite clouds and as it's true name suited to be the "Abode of Clouds"

These are the following tourist spots to visit nearby Shillong & I would suggest all the people to visit all these wounderful tourist destination.
