LucidTouch – the see-through mobile device

The Iphone has the neat abiliity for you to use multiple fingers to select things on the screen, but with all our digits on the screen how can you see anything? Well microsoft thinks they figured it out by projecting your fingers through the device. Confused? Look at the pictures and check the link!

March 7, 2008 Touch is a compelling input modality for interactive devices, but fingers get in the way on the small screen of a mobile device. Microsoft held its annual Techfest earlier this week, showing a range of new technologies certain to play a role in the future of mankind. One that jumped out at us was the LucidTouch, a mobile device that addresses this limitation by allowing the user to control the application by touching the back of the see-through device. The key to making the LucidTouch usable is pseudo-transparency: by overlaying an image of the user’s hands onto the screen, Microsoft has created the illusion of the mobile device itself being semitransparent, allowing users to accurately acquire targets while not obscuring the screen with their fingers and hand.

She designs everything from boots to buildings for her customers in-world, and has been richly rewarded. Last year was a bad year, she says, because she parted ways with her in-game partner of some years and had to rebuild. The Times says:"TimesMachine can take you back to any issue from Volume 1, Number 1 of The New-York Daily Times, on September 18, 1851, through The New York Times of December 30, 1922. Choose a date in history and flip electronically through the pages, displayed with their original look and feel."

You can browse through the paper and when you actually want to read the article you click and can view a PDF of it. I was going to see how well the PDF worked, but it seems that adobe reader install wants to just float hidden and not show install screen. I hate that. It has done it a few times.

This is a tech that I thought I wouldn't see for a couple of years.
You know, a typical university experiment that you never here about again.
Well, here it is and online!!

Modify your images to you liking. For your blogs, fiting to a frame, or fitting to the all important rule of thirds.

Now look below mountains are the SAME SIZE but the image has been cropped noticeably in the horizontal. This is done with no user intervention!

The only user input is utilizing a brush and scribbling over the object you want out. Here, the image was just resized vertically and automatically the diver is removed! Just as good if not better than photoshop!!

From their site:

rsizr is a Flash application that lets you resize JPG, PNG, and GIF images on your computer. With rsizr, in addition to normal image rescaling and cropping, you can also resize images using a new image resizing algorithm called seam carving (a method of image retargeting) that tries to keep intact areas in your image that are richer in detail.

Flock Web Browser Review 1.0+

All I can say is that Flock is very cool. I have been trying it over the last few years, and always went back to the basic web browser because it hadn't implemented some basic feature that would convince me to switch.

Well, with 1.0 if has gone beyond what I want. It is a fantastic browser. (It is based on Firefox)

the Friends bar (click image to see clearer preview)

This is neatest thing as far as keeping track of friends. You open this sidebar and can see what your facebook friends are doing without going thru the whole check page thing. This is what Flock is all about. Having all your social centric pages accessible at once. Like right now I am blogging to face book by just clicking on post item under my photo here in this picture. I drag the screen grabs onto the post and it opens a window to automatically upload the picture. It is sooo coooo!. There is more:

On this bar you can click on "all Friends" you can see what all your friends on facebook,flickr image site,twitter (instant phone msg./text site), and other social sites are doing and when it was done! For example: so and so posted on facebook, la-dee-da uploaded pictures on flickr, John Smith on twittr says "I'm at muddycup, anyone stop on by!

The media bar, Click on the film wheel/camera icon.

This opens the media bar, which actually show the pictures/video you friends on flickr/facebook/etc. have uploaded!

If you look on the left I opened the clip sidebar, you can drag images/text from interesting sites to post in your facebook/blog or whatever.

This is what made me switch over to flock. intergration to the online bookmart service called del.ic.ious.com (delicious). It is been around for a long time. The premise is that instead of storing all your site in folders (did I store amazon.com under the folder stores? books? shopping? internet?) you TAG the site. you hit the tag icon (once you sign up you download their tools for firefox, so that it installs these buttons), you can see the icon in the above image where I showed the media button. (2nd button to the right of the House/home button.

As you can see from above, you can tag your website with anything that comes to mind, so when you want to find amazon.com you just search for any term (stores books shopping internet) in your delicious bookmarks. you can get more specific by adding terms.

Here I opened the delicious sidebar and did the search for sites like amazon
