Kid-Key-Lock is a small Windows application designed to lock specific keyboard and mouse functions with just a few configuration options.

Once you install the application you are prompted to choose the restrictions you wish to apply, which can be easily configured through a very intuitive window.

The setup menu is actually a clean window that lets you select the mouse locks by enabling some of the available options, which include lock left mouse button, right or middle buttons, double click, mouse wheel or the mouse pointer.

If you wish to enable a series of restrictions over the keyboard, this time you need to drag a slider to lock system key combinations, lock all keys except character keys, space, enter and arrows or lock all keys.

Another feature is the password that can be typed anywhere on the screen to show the setup or simply to quit the application, with separate options to enable a balloon notification with password reminder.

Kid-Key-Lock could prove quite useful not only to parents who wish to restrict children access to the computer, but also in case you want to prevent accidental presses of certain buttons.

The program works flawlessly on all Windows versions and doesn't hamper system performance at all, without requiring administrator privileges on Windows 7.

In the end, Kid-Key-Lock seems to be a useful software solution, but more features and configuration options are still needed to attract more users. Plus, it also places an icon in System Tray to easily control some of the locks, which can only be good news for those who don't want to waste too much time setting up the program.

Petron Lakbay Kalikasan Art Contest

Petron believes that free artistic expression remains intrinsic to nation-building. With this conviction and as support to our artists' unique vision and dynamic translations of Philippine culture through diverse artworks, they launched the Lakbay Kalikasan Art Competition. The artwork should be based on the theme "A Journey of Nurturing Nature". Choose a category you want to join - Painting, Colored Photography, or Print Making. Show how creative you are for a chance of winning P50,000 (Painting) or P30,000 (Colored Photography or Print Making). In addition to the cash prize, you will also receive a trophy & plaque made by National Artist and Chairman of the Board of Judges Napoleon V. Abueva.

Contest Requirements:

Open to all college students and students of a tutorial art or photography programs, ages 15-28 years old
The student must be of good moral character. A certification of such from the dean or art teacher must be attached to the application form

Contest Mechanics:

Three (3) Categories

Painting Category

Watercolor/Water-based Media

Surface to be used must be watercolor paper or illustration board only
Should not exceed 4 x 4 feet, exclusive of frame

Oil/Acrylic

Surface to be used must either be canvass, canvass paper or wood
Should not exceed 4 x 4 feet, exclusive of frame

Colored Photography

Size of the photograph must not be smaller than 8 x 10 inches and should not exceed 10 x 15 inches, exclusive of frame
Must be original and have been photographed after April 30, 2012
Must not have been previously exhibited or awarded a prize in another contest, corrected and manipulated in any post production activity
Camera used should be declared
Digital photography and use of filters are allowed

Print Making Category

Must be based on the theme
Minimum artwork size on paper is 12 x 16 inches but not more than 16 x 20 inches
Printmaking techniques include woodcut,wood engraving, rubber cut, silk screen linocut, etching, metal engraving, collagraph, serigraph, and lithograph among others. There should be no computer generated images
Design must be your own original unpublished work and must not contain third party logos, trademarks or copyright materials
Winning works, including printmaking designs , must be "translatable" for corporate giveaways such as t-shirts

World's Internet will Shut Down on July 9 by DNS Changer malware

Yes this is no Joke. FBI issued a warning of a trojan that has infected millions of computers around the world.

Hackers have created a Trojan/virus, which will install itself on the computer and stays there just like until July 9. The Trojan virus is set to time bombed itself on July 9th. Thus Trojan will deflect all the Internet traffic to hacker's infected servers whereby blocking the access of the Internet.

How July 9 Trojan Virus Works:

There's a reason why those machines will have difficulty accessing sites on the Internet. DNS, or Domain Name Services, is what gives Internet users access to websites by simply typing the name - like yahoo.com - instead of an IP address. DNS translates the name of the website to the actual IP address where the site lives. For most users, these requests are handled by servers at their ISP, or Internet Service Provider.

The DNS Changer malware, however, will redirect those queries to a server set up by the trojan’s creators, effectively hijacking all Internet traffic from the computer. This let the criminals send users to websites filled with ads allowing them to pocket millions of dollars from the traffic.

How to Check if Your Computer is Affected on July 9:

Go to the DNS Changer Check up site at http://www.dns-ok.us/.
and http://dcwg.org/

If the computer is clean, the page will present a 'Green' graphic indicating the computer appears to be routing addresses correctly.

If a 'Red' graphic is displayed, that means the computer is infected.

How to Remove the Trojan/Virus

Go to DNS Changer Working Group website and use any one of the links there to clean the malware off the computer.

The warnings about the Internet problem have been splashed across Facebook and Google. Internet service providers have sent notices, and the FBI set up a special website.

Thousands of Canadians could be among the hundreds of thousands of people around the world who might lose Internet access on July 9.That's the day the FBI will shut down all the "clean servers" it set up to combat a massive hacking operation.

Last November the FBI arrested and charged six Estonian men behind the malware as part of Operation Ghost Click. These hackers were able to make a fortune off their project, raking in millions for ads placed on their fraudulent websites.On the eve of the arrests, the FBI hired Paul Vixie, chairman of the Internet Systems Consortium (ISC) to install two temporary Internet servers that would prevent infected users from losing access to the Internet once the DNSChanger botnet was shut down.

DNS (Domain Name System) is a core Internet technology used to convert human readable domain names suchasfacebook.com into an IP address such as 10.181.211.1, which a computer understands.

It's estimated that there is still around 277,00 infections worldwide, despite a massive clean up operation. If you're concerned about your own PC, or family members, then there's a DNS checker website or more information over at the DNS Changer Working Group.

Running the temporary servers for eight months has cost the FBI $87,000. Both Facebook and Google created their own warning messages that showed up if someone using either site appeared to have an infected computer. Facebook users would get a message that says, "Your computer or network might be infected," along with a link that users can click for more information.Google users got a similar message, displayed at the top of a Google search results page. It also provides information on correcting the problem.

Ensure that the DNS Servers are not within the following range of Internet Protocols (IPs):

- 85.255.112.0 through 85.255.127.255

- 67.210.0.0 through 67.210.15.255

- 93.188.160.0 through 93.188.167.255

- 77.67.83.0 through 77.67.83.255

- 213.109.64.0 through 213.109.79.255

- 64.28.176.0 through 64.28.191.255

If DNSChanger is detected, users may use software from McAfee, Kaspersky Labs, Microsoft, Norton, or Trend Micro to clean the infection.

MANILA, Philippines — Leading telecommunications firm Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) and its wireless arm Smart Communications urged Pinoy Internet users to check if they have been infected with a malware which will restrict their Internet access if not removed by July 9.

The malware, called DNSChanger, was discovered to be re-routing Internet traffic of infected PCs to servers of a group of Internet hackers, which allows them to display advertisements or spread malware to more users.

Once infected, the Domain Name Settings (DNS) of an infested computer will be changed to that of the hackers’ servers. Reports said systems have started to become infected when they visited similarly infected websites, “or downloaded particular software to view videos online,” according to technology news site CNet.

In addition to changing the DNS servers of the computer, the malware has also been known to prevent antivirus updates from occurring, which means traditional security software couldn’t possibly detect the infection.

The group behind the malware has since been arrested by authorities in 2011, but the temporary redirection servers set up by law enforcement bodies to give users the time to clean up their systems will soon be shut down.

“If you fail to take action, you may not be able to access Internet websites and use web services like email and search,” said PLDT and Smart Spokesperson Ramon Isberto in a statement.

To check if your system is infected, PLDT and Smart urged to go through your computer’s settings:

2. Open the Command Window
3. (For Windows 7) Type cmd at the search bar
4. (For Windows XP) Click Run, then type cmd at the bar
5. Type ipconfig /all
6. Search for the DNS Servers section

Mac OS X
1. Click the Apple icon an the top left of the screen
2. Select System Preferences
3. Locate the “Network” icon
4. Read the “DNS Server” line

If the DNS servers are pointed at any of the following addresses, then it means the system is infected:

• 85.255.112.0 through 85.255.127.255
• 67.210.0.0 through 67.210.15.255
• 93.188.160.0 through 93.188.167.255
• 77.67.83.0 through 77.67.83.255
• 213.109.64.0 through 213.109.79.255
• 64.28.176.0 through 64.28.191.255

Alternatively, users can visit the following websites to automatically check if their units have the DNSChanger malware: http://www.dns-ok.us/ and http://dnschanger.detect.my.

To permanently rid your system of the malware, you can use various services put up by security software firms.
