How to set up an automatic thank reply to your Twitter follower

There are many Twitter related sites out there that you can use to do this but for this example I'll be using Tweetlater.

1. Sign up for a free account at Tweetlater.com

2. If you're not already on the main account page, click on the blue "Main" navigation button.

3. On the "Where Do You Want To Go Today?" page click on "Manage My Scheduled Tweets and Twitter Account."

4. In "My Twitter Account" you should see your Twitter name under "Account."

5. Under the "Actions" column click the "edit" link for your Twitter account.

6. On the "Optional Twitter Automation" page check the "Auto Welcome" box and type your welcome message in the dialog box.

Tweetlater also gives you an option to rotate welcome messages. You can find the instruction for doing this through the link on "Optional Twitter Automation" page.

Apple’s Misstep with new iPod voice-over feature

I've read several twitters and blogs which basically have been calling the new iPod Shuffle a disaster. First off I am not an Apple fan and if anything I have more of a bias against Apple as a company then for it. I think that many of the personal opinions about the poor design of the product such as the size of the device and having to use the Apple ear buds have merit. I know that personally I would never buy a product this small because as many have pointed out it would be too easy to lose. As for those complaining about having to use the Apple ear buds with the built in control-- what did you expect? Apple products have always been more proprietary then other companies -- we have seen this before in the way the iPod is dependent on the iTunes service, the way Apple handles iPhone apps, and in the recessed headphone jack on the iPhone; This is one way Apple tries to locks it customers into using only Apple products.

Yes, the voice-over is not a blow me over "cool" innovation, but I think that many are so busy trashing the proprietary ear buds that they are missing the benefits of the voice-over feature. While having the voice-over tell you the name of an artist, the name of a song or the name of a play list does not really have a big "wow" factor it does have one advantage -- the convenience of not having to stop what I'm doing and fumble around with looking at a tiny display to choose a particular song or play list. Unfortunate, the way Apple has incorporated voice-over into the product has led to a wholesale rejection by many of an overall good feature.

President Bush's Commencement Speech at Furman

Politics should be set aside during President Bush's commencement speech tonight at Furman University. The commencement tonight should not be treated as a forum to protest the controversies of the current administration. The right to free speech is one of the most valuable rights that we have in this country and there has already been plenty of those that have exercised their right to protest President Bush's visit.
However the commencement itself should be treated as a political neutral zone where the rights of the student should be respected so that they can enjoy one of the most important moments of their lives .

Governor Sanford helped arranged the President's visit to the University. Sanford's spokesman Moore stated in the Greenville News that "all senior class leaders and executives of the Association of Furman Students" had the opportunity to approved the President as the commencement speaker."

Some 60 professors have promised to stand during the commencement to protest President Bush's administration while others professor have said that they will not participate in the commencement. Professors at Furman are upset that they were not consulted about the decision however Moore stated that "there has never been a policy or a precedent for faculty approval of commencement speakers."

Many of the professors at Furman have had the opportunity to protest the President's visit by signing the "We Object" protest letter and other forms of protest. There are many people that jobs requiring them to deal those that they disagree with or just dislike.
The bottom line is that these professors are employees of the university and should be held to high standards while they act as representatives of Furman University and be respectful of the students being honored tonight.

FBI honey pots are dangerous to everyone

According to Cnet News the FBI has recently used the technique of posting links that purportedly point to child pornography on forums that are supposedly visited by pedophiles . Using the allegedly incriminating IP addresses of those that clicked on the links, the FBI obtained warrants to raid and arrest people based on the federal law which makes attempting to download child pornography illegal. This federal law is punishable up to 10 years in prison.

The goal of finding and arresting pedophiles is something everyone can agree is a good one and the government should do everything it can within the law to catch them.

However, the disturbing thing about this is that the FBI does not have to even prove that the accused person actually clicked on the original link that the FBI posted on the forum which described the link as child pornography. Links that are posted on one website or forum are commonly reposted on other sites, or sent to other people by E-mail. On top of this are those that maliciously repost or E-mail these links with innocent descriptions about the link. Of course the re-posted or E-mailed link don't always include the original descriptions and links can be easily cloaked to make it appear that the link points to one website but takes you to another. This has even started a new term called "fedrolling" which is similar to "rickrolling" except that the link the victim is tricked into clicking on lead to an FBI honey pot.

A court judge ruled that the possibilities that someone spoofed the accused person's IP address or someone without permission used the accused person's open Wi-Fi connection would not be a basis to negated probable cause for a warrant. The techniques is not considered entrapment because there is no supposed pressure by the government on the person to click on the link.

The boom of popular social networking sites such as Digg, Del.icio.us and others has made the spreading of links even faster and the chance of inadvertently clicking on such a link much higher. Even without cloaking the link, if such a link is posted innocently or maliciously on such a social network site it could easily spread to many people and clicked on by them before the link is removed from the social networking site.

Using such a honey pot link method is sloppy, and ignores the dynamics of the internet. There are better ways to find and arrest people involved in such sick practices. Continued use of such methods will probable lead to innocent people's lives being seriously damaged and if the warrants are later overturned by a court as illegal, it could lead to guilt people being release where they can continue to victimize children
