Lil Wayne Renews Deal With Cash Money for 15 years

2012-04-13T00:11:00.000-07:00

When Lil Wayne says “YMCMB Forever” he means FOREVER. The rapper just renewed his contract with Cash Money by signing a 15 year deal and is preparing his next release; “I Am Not A Human Being II.” Wayne says, “I just resigned another four-album deal, so my next four albums is coming out with Cash Money.” During his interview with MTV Hip-Hop POV, he revealed the following about the upcoming release which we should expect later this year.

“The I Am Not a Human Being projects is more me just being creatively free. I just say what I wanna on the I Am Not a Human Being II. Contract-wise, I only get paid for 12 songs. Maybe on a Carter album, you probably only gonna get 12 songs, maybe a bonus 13. But on this I Am Not a Human Being thing, I really don’t care—’cause thank God I’m wealthy enough to not—you’re probably gonna get about 16 on there.”

He also stated that select songs that were supposed to be released on “Devol” may appear on “I Am Not A Human Being II.” He states,

“All these emotions came out on this Devol project that I was doing, so we’re gonna pick some of the songs off the Devol project and hopefully people like them.”

With the success of Nicki Minaj’s album, we can expect that the YMCMB CEO will do record numbers as usual.

JAHFE's new single "MIAMI VICE" & An interview with their singer ESTHER!

2012-01-18T13:54:00.000-08:00

Jahfe is a band based out of Miami, Fl playing a heavy yet smooth fusion of roots reggae with rocking dub-hop. Representing the power of the youth and the wisdom of roots culture, the music of Jahfe not only reflects the city’s diverse music scene but also the true ability of conscious music to connect to people of all backgrounds. Band members represent a diverse international background of home countries and cultural roots- Haiti to Spain, Israel to Cuba, Czech Republic to Morocco to all over the US.
Today we have the immense pleasure and opportunity to interview their lead singer, Esther, who happens to be Haitian!

Enjoy!!

----

Hey Esther!!! Welcome to my blog! I hear so much good things about Jahfe, I just had to do an interview with you guys, especially now that you guys released a new single, "Miami Vice" powered by Inner Circle.

Can you tell the readers a little about the story behind the famous band Jahfe? How old is the band? How did you guys start?

- Wow, Well first off thank you for this interview Power Surge! It's a great pleasure for me to be here with you. Jahfe is an instrument of life, and we are here to bring a powerful message in great melodic form. Jahfe is all about the message so really it's been around since the beginning of time. This current band has been around for over 5 years. It all started with a fire to change the mind. Sasha's belief's and Esther's melodies in a backyard in Miami.

How did the project with Inner Circle come about? (Inner Circle is the band who made the popular song "Bad Boys" featured in the TV Show "COPS" and also the "Bad Boys" movies by Will Smith & Martin Lawrence)

- Inner Circle is based in Miami. And they have been watching how the reggae movement is strong in other states. They wanted to bring the Reggae Wave to Miami. So about a year ago they contacted 8 Miami Reggae Bands and we started recording 2 songs each for the album.

What are Jahfe's plans for the year 2012?

- Jahfe's plans are Jah's plans. We want to push forward with the movement. The album Third Eye is reaching completion and there will be some great videos for the Solution album. We don't see limits, so traveling is of course in the plans.

What is your most memorable moment with Jahfe?

- I can't say that there is a moment. I would rather call it a period. My memorable period in the lifespan of Jahfe thus far is when we were working on the album, The Solution. There was a vibe, an energy in the air, such a Brotherhood and Sisterhood among us that could not be messed with and that is the time when our sound took it's shape. We were so hungry, still are... but let's just say we were close to starvation at that point. And God knew that we were all in it and he blessed us immensely.

I know you are Haitian and there is at least one more member of the group who is Haitian, how did the earthquake affect you guys? Personally and musically...

- The Earthquake. Personally, Sasha lost some family members. Musically, well in July of 2009 Jahfe released the album, The Solution which contained the song Crying Blood written by Sasha. The song basically depicts exactly what happened on Jan 12th 2010. So for Jahfe, it was revelation time. The prophecy must be told. Many people are not aware of this, but one day the world will know Jah's message.

How do you feel about where Haiti is right now 2 years after the incident and what is your dream for Haiti?

- Honestly, I leave it all up to God. Haiti means Zion - Higher Ground many folks don't know that. The first will be the last and the last will be the first. Haitians need to know that Haiti is a chosen land, and they are a chosen people. How many places you hear people come back from the dead by zombification? How many nations defeated their conqueror when their conqueror was at its highest power? I can go on forever, but until Haiti realizes it's true meaning in this world, there will be no real change.

Now tell us a bit more about Esther... Were you in a band before Jahfe or is this your first musical experience?

- Esther: simple girl. living for this work that i am doing.
I was not in a band before Jahfe.

I was hanging out with you in Haiti in December and also in Miami a couple of weeks ago, and to be honest, to me, you seem to be more of a leader than just a regular artist who just sings when they are on stage. Do you see yourself doing anything other than just singing in Jahfe? Maybe an executive role?

- I have an executive role in Jahfe. At this point Jahfe is the way. Jah meaning God, Fe meaning to do. Creator. There is no greater job than to work for the TOP BOSS himself, GOD.

Is there someone special in the life of Esther? perhaps a number fan lol

- My pen is my best friend, my lover, my guide and my fan....

Do you have any last words...

- Last words: You can forget me or Jahfe, but please don't forget GOD (the greatest author)

Thank you Esther for your time! I know you are very busy with Jahfe! I know everything will work out perfectly for you guys and I am looking forward to hearing more of your work!

Thank you Power Surge... Hope you all enjoy the new single Miami Vice. The Solution is available on iTunes, Amazon.com, CD Baby, Rhapsody and more... Just google us!

Common "Sweet" - The Video & The Making - MADE IN HAITI

2011-11-15T14:20:00.000-08:00

Common came to Haiti a few weeks back for a CNN special, and had such a great experience with the Haitian people, that him and his team decided to shoot the video of his 2nd single "Sweet" off his album "The Dreamer, The Believer" produced by NO I.D, commercially known and proclaimed for producing JayZ's 'Death Of Autotune'. The video shows a side of Haiti that people are familiar with: The streets and the gutter look of the Haitian reality running their daily lives.

Though the lyrics of the song might be quite a bit explicit, the realness behind what he is saying merges perfectly with the type of images being showed in the video.

A great artist, a real man, showing a real part of Haitian culture.

Thank you Common. Looking forward to seeing you back in Haiti soon!

The Chicago hip hop legend’s Warner Brothers Records debut, which also includes “Ghetto Dreams” featuring Nas, and “Blue Sky“, will hit stores this December.

True Love. A story that truly inspires...

2011-09-06T00:41:00.000-07:00

This is an amazing and inspiring story, and I wanted to share it with you all...

Her, Nathalie, an architect student in NY...

Him, Jean-Pierre, an aspiring musician, passionate about writing music...

They were a young couple who had been together for a little while until, unfortunately, they had to separate...

But not in the traditional way...

Jean-Pierre passed away in the January 12th Earthquake in Haiti...

And all Nathalie had to hold onto was memories, and bits & pieces of his music...

So she decided to get in touch with all the musicians she had access to, to help her put the pieces together and release a song that Jean-Pierre had written. Thanks to the help of some musicians and friends, she finally did it.

And here it is...

Check out "Nous Deux" by Jean-Pierre Polynice, sang by Nathalie & Carlo Vieux

In Memory of Jean-Pierre Polynice

R.I.P bro... You were and still is, truly loved.

And to you Nathalie, for being an incredible girlfriend. You made his dream come true... God bless you.

Drake Speaks On “Take Care” & Working With Stevie Wonder

2011-09-05T14:14:00.000-07:00

The legendary Stevie Wonder appears on Take Care, which is the upcoming second studio album by Canadian recording artist Drake, scheduled for release through Young Money Entertainment and Cash Money Records on his 25th birthday, October 24, 2011.

Drake:
"I had a song that’s very powerful, it’s called “Doing It Wrong,” and Stevie boosted it to another level. 40 produced it, but Stevie has a solo on it that he plays. It’s a great piece of music.
I was only trying to use extremely strong R&B songs on this album if I’m going to use R&B at all. Before I’d have scattered interludes and songs where I’m experimenting with things. Here I wanted to get back to “Brand New,” “Bria’s Interlude” days. It’s going to be really tight writing and s— that’s sexy as f—. That’s my thing. I’m going to do the type of R&B I’m good at. With Stevie it’s hard for me to explain. It’s an incredible thing I witnessed that night. He heard a song that he saw some potential in and he added some key pieces that made it come to life. I’ve never played a song for people and they’ve cried and gone into their own private zone in their mind where they’re really thinking about some situations that hit home. And this song has done that for me. I’ve never seen that before. I’ve heard stories where it’s like “So and so cried when they heard this.” And I’d be like, “Yeah, okay, cool.” [Laughs] But I’ve seen people tear up listening to this song that me and Stevie did. Other than that, I just played him music for approval. That’s always reassuring, to be able to play Stevie Wonder music and have him say that it’s incredible. I think me and Stevie immediately formed a relationship where he wants to see me do well. He’s expressed to me adamantly that he wants to see me succeed. He wants to see me on the moon. It’s boosted my confidence."

Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter IV" Breaks Jay-Z & Kanye West's First Week iTunes Sales Record

Just a few weeks after Jay-Z and Kanye West broke the first week sales record for iTunes with Watch the Throne, Lil Wayne accomplished the same feat with his latest album Tha Carter IV in just four days.

According to HHNM, Weezy has sold more than 300,000 copies of his latest offering since it hit the web on early Monday at midnight. In its first week, TC4 is now expected to move between 925,000 and 975,000 copies, whereas earlier estimates put the album between 850,000 and 900,000 units.

In its first week out, Watch the Throne broke Coldplay’s previous iTunes record for first week sales, moving roughly 290,000 copies.

T.I. Big U-Turn: From Prison to Halfway House Right Back to Prison

2011-09-02T10:24:00.000-07:00

Ok ok ok... I know I just posted an article about T.I getting released from prison. Just happens that he got re-routed to another prison in Atlanta. Smh...

The rap artist T.I. was sent back to prison after he showed up at a halfway house in Atlanta in a luxury bus with an entourage.

He was sent to a federal prison in downtown Atlanta to continue serving his sentence on a parole violation a day after it was announced he had a book deal with HarperCollins and a television reality show lined up with VH1.

Federal prison authorities did not say why they had decided that T.I., whose real name is Clifford J. Harris Jr., should remain in a cell. His lawyer, Steven H. Sadow, said they had taken issue with “T.I.’s method of transportation” from Forrest City, a low-security prison in Arkansas, to the Dismas House in Atlanta.

“We don’t comment on specific inmate behaviors,” said Chris Burke, a spokesman for the Bureau of Prisons. He said T.I., who is 30 and a native of Atlanta, would be released Sept. 29.

In 2009 T.I. was convicted of trying to buy unregistered guns and silencers from undercover federal agents and served about seven months in prison before being released on probation. He was arrested again in September 2010 in Los Angeles on drug charges after the authorities said he had been found with four ecstasy pills, and he received an 11-month sentence from a judge for violating his probation.
He was all set to spend the last month of that sentence at the halfway house, and posted a joyous note on Twitter as he was released Wednesday morning: “The storm is over & da sun back out.”

VH1 announced the same day that it would have television cameras follow him after he is released for a reality television show to be broadcast in December. MTV did a similar show on him in 2009 called “T.I.’s Road to Redemption.” He also has a novel called “Power & Beauty,” co-written with David Ritz, coming out. It tells of two childhood friends caught up in violence on the streets of Atlanta.
T.I. established himself as one of rap’s most successful M.C.s during the early 2000s, and his 2003 album, “24’s,” had a string of major hits. After that he produced five albums that ended up in the Top 10 for rap recordings.

He was also dogged with controversy, ending up in the news more often for his beefs with other rappers and legal problems than for his aid efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. In May 2006 T.I. and his associates were involved in a shooting in at a post-show party in Cincinnati that left his longtime friend Philant Johnson dead. He later said the bullets had been intended for him.
After he was released from prison in 2009 he spoke frequently to schoolchildren about the dangers of drugs and gangs as part of more than 1,000 hours of community service he was required to perform. A federal judge declared that experiment in rehabilitation had failed when the authorities in Los Angeles discovered that he was carrying ecstasy.

T.I gets released from prison!!!

2011-09-02T10:08:00.000-07:00

Rapper T.I. walked out of an Arkansas prison a free man, despite a statement made by his lawyer that Tip would remain locked up until late September.

T.I. will move into a community living facility. The rapper was sent to jail for violating probation when he and his wife Tiny were busted in Los Angeles on drug charges.

Tip tweeted his elation shortly after gaining freedom. Check the tweets!

DJ Khaled Signs Dancehall Artist Mavado To We The Best Music Group!

2011-09-02T09:42:00.000-07:00

Internationally acclaimed Dancehall artiste, David Brooks, more popularly known as Mavado has landed a major, overseas record deal. The popular singjay announced during an interview with HOT 97′s Angie Martinez that he’s signed a record deal with DJ Khaled’s We The Best Music Group.

Mavado took to the airwaves of the New York City based radio station to break the big news; prior to DJ Khaled’s confirmation of said announcement. “That’s right, New York City! Mavado is officially signed to We The Best Music Group,” said an excited Khaled. The Miami born hip-hop superstar & disc jock further elaborated on the new deal with the “Gully Gaad.”

“Mavado’s part of the family; part of the brand. It’s about to be an expansion to the movement. It’s going to be a movie, you feel me? I’m really excited about this because my roots and where I come from, I’ve known Mavado since before he was Mavado. Mavado always puts great music out, and I just want to add more to it, add some steroids to it,” Khaled told HOT 97.
The announcement comes nearly two months after Mavado was re-issued a United States visa by the United States Embassy in Kingston. Additionally, this comes four months after Mavado launched his own record label, Mansion Records & released his hit, debut single via the label, “Delilah” shortly thereafter. “Delilah” was added to HOT 97′s regular playlist earlier this week.
