Party Singers recently had the huge Honor of performing on the hit NBC Universal television show, Royal Pains! They were looking for four perfect Dickens Carolers so naturally, they called us! I was lucky enough to be the soprano on this shoot and along with Julia Moss (alto), Christopher Lengerich (tenor) and Jason Whitfield (bass), we had a very full day on the set of Royal Pains in beautiful Westhampton.

We ended up driving up to the Hamptons the night before the early morning shoot due to weather. We had the pleasure of riding in the show’s shuttle with the lovely Reshma Shetty who plays Divya Katdare. She is actually my age and also has her degree in opera performance from a school I *almost* went to for graduate school, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.

During the shoot, she came up to us and had lots of questions about where we all studied and was very complimentary of our harmonies. Such a sweetheart! We also rode up with another actor, Chris, who was shooting a scene in a jewelry shop on the same block that we were shooting. He plays the jeweler and he couldn’t get enough of the four of us practising in the shuttle van.

Upon arrival, we checked into our hotel and settled in for some rehearsal as we were set to shoot three songs the next morning, two of which were new. We had an early morning call to set and started the day by enjoying some craft services, complete with an omelette bar and juicers! With beet juice and carrot apple juice in hand, we made our way to holding and wardrobe, where the costume designers for the show ooooed and ahhhhhed over our beautiful Dickens-style costumes. Well, that was easy!

The crew had managed to turn an entire block into the holidays, complete with Christmas decorations and fake snow! First off, we recorded audio for our three songs: Joy to the World, Hark the Herald Angels Sing and Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel. With all extras, cast and crew standing by watching. (about 200 people) “Quiet on the set!” No pressure at all. We nailed all three in one take and were feeling pretty great with all the cheering from everyone on set.

We were quite relieved to have recorded the tracks as we shot both of our scenes several times, wearing hidden ear wigs so we could hear ourselves in our ears and lip sync. I am sure we looked pretty foolish to the extras walking past for each take!
Between takes, we made several friends, including the hilarious and talented Paulo Costanzo, who plays Evan R. Lawson and who loved singing along with us! I must say, he has quite the bass voice! The highlight of our day was Paulo asking us to shoot a surprise short scene for the DVD gag reel! Let’s just say Paulo ends up singing with us and maybe we manage to insult him to the point of him storming off. Hilarious. Hope it makes the reel!

We also had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with the lovely Brooke D’Orsay who plays Paige Collins and the lead of the show, Mark Feuerstein who plays Dr. Hank Lawson and who was not only a joy to work with, but helped entertain the extras and kids on set when the day started to get really long by rapping to Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel with us between takes!Just when we thought we were done for the day, the sound engineer asked us if we would re-record our audio to get some additional tracks to work with. Glad to! He made up a mini-sound studio right there on the sidewalk. Pretty impressive.

This was such an amazing experience all around. The cast and crew were the best you could ask for in both friendliness and professionalism, not to mention talent. We were thrilled to represent Party Singers and are looking forward to seeing this holiday episode!

Once again, the hottest show on the Strip, ABSINTHE at Caesars Palace continues to attract famous faces to its venue. Last night, spotted enjoying the hilarious antics from The Gazillionaire, his assistant Penny Pibbets and the eccentric cast of performers was USA Network’s Royal Pains star, Mark Feuerstein. Feuerstein also attended the show with fellow co-stars Michael Silver, Charley Koontz, and Executive Producer Andrew Lenchewski.

Following the show, the lovely ladies of ABSINTHE used their charming skills to persuade Feuerstein to stay for a photo, which he happily obliged to. Check it out below!

Royal Pains Filming in Westhampton Beach

As promised, the USA Network cable show "Royal Pains," about a physician who makes housecalls for the Hamptons elite as well as the everyman, has returned to the area to shoot scenes for its fourth season. They were spotted filming on Main Street in Westhampton Beach on Monday morning.

Grant Wilfley Casting, of Manhattan, says that USA will be back in Southampton on May 10 and is in need of extras "with the affluent look and the wardrobe to portray the high-society Hamptons elite."

Mark Feuerstein At Fallen Long Island Officers Honored at Oheka Castle Gala

Three Long Island Law Enforcement Officers were recently remembered at the inaugural Honor at the Castle Gala held Tuesday at Oheka Castle in Huntington.

The event was also a fundraiser for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, which is building a National Law Enforcement Museum in Washington, D.C.

The event paid special tribute to fallen Nassau County police officers Geoffrey Breitkopf and Michael Califano, and ATF Officer John Capano. Family members of the late Michael Califano and John Capano were in attendance.

"It's just nice to see after all the months that have past, to see my husband still remembered and honored and to know that he's not going to be forgotten ... that so much is being done for him," said Jacqueline Califano

Singer and songwriter Range was also on hand to debut his new song "Lay it down" that he wrote for the organization. "It's about the police officers and solders that put their life on the line everyday to keep us free and keep us happy," said Range.

Actor Mark Feuerstein, best known for his role in the USA show "Royal Pains" which also films at Oheka Castle, was on hand to Emcee the event. "I don't think we can convey our appreciation for the families of those who risked and gave their lives for our safety and our protection enough," said Feuerstein.

Oyster Bay Impersonates The Hamptons For The Popular TV Series Royal Pains

“Wow,” said Harlan Friedman, Oyster Festival co-promoter, as he was walking to his office in the B.H. Powers building on Audrey Avenue. “With my face buried in my morning Starbucks and my ear glued to my Blackberry, I saw something miraculous. It was a new store, right across the street from my office. It was filled with golf bags and clubs! Nike, Callaway, Taylor Made, you name it, they were all there!

“I dropped everything. I ran up to the guy putting the sign up and as I was about to ask when they were opening... Well, actually, I asked, instead, if this was a real golf store, but it turned out it was a Royal Pains store. Looks like we still have to leave town for our golf needs to be filled.”

Mr. Friedman was getting his baptismal into the third year of filming for the popular TV seriesRoyal Pains, on the streets of Oyster Bay, Bayville and Locust Valley. Many local residents love to watch the well-written, well-cast series just to catch glimpses of what Oyster Bay looks like dressed up to impersonate the Hamptons. One of the first locations was the Oyster Bay Town Hall that is regularly set up to look like the entrance to Hampton Heritage Hospital, where Concierge Doctor Hank Lawson brings his patients, but only when necessary.

A local resident’s (who’s no couch potato) take on the series is, “I tape it and fast forward to see if I recognize any local locations.”

Meet the Cast

FYI, the actors and their characters in Royal Pains are: Mark Feuerstein as Dr. Hank Lawson, the concierge doctor of HankMed; Paulo Costanzo plays his younger brother Evan Lawson, the CFO of HankMed; Reshma Shetty plays Divya Katdare, a physician’s assistant at HankMed; Jill Flint plays Jill Casey, the administrator of Hamptons Heritage, the local hospital which is “played” by Oyster Bay’s Town Hall; Henry Winkler plays Eddie R. Lawson, the father of Hank and Evan; Campbell Scott [the son of George C. Scott and his wife actress Colleen Dewhurst to give you a sense of where his gravitas comes from] plays billionaire Boris Kuester von Jurgens-Ratenicz and is the Lawson’s landlord; Boris’ home is “played” by Oheka Castle in Cold Spring Hills; Christine Ebersole plays Ms. Newberg, a Hampton socialite who fancies Eddie Lawson. There are other players that enrich the series week by week including a recent appearance by Tom Cavanagh who starred as the owner of a bowling alley in The Ed Show co-produced by David Letterman. On Royal Pains he played a golf pro and was not not-so- co-operative patient in the fight to save his career and then his life, over two seasons.

Each of the ensemble players in the series has a sub-plot going for them, so it is easy to leave the audience satisfied at the end of the show - in that they have spent the hour entertained - and the stories usually end on an upbeat note.

Favorite Locations

Royal Pains does a lot of filming on Audrey Avenue in front of Buckingham Village [the new concept name for Buckingham’s Variety]. Jamie Dick, the in-store manager of BV said, “They film in front of here all the time. I got to meet Henry Winkler going into Carvel’s [on the corner of South Street and Audrey Avenue]. What a doll. I asked, ‘May I take your picture?’, and I did. After, a woman with him said, ‘Don’t you want your picture taken with him too?’ and she took it for me.” Now Jamie carries the picture on her cell phone.

Royal Pains did a shoot at Chelsea Mansion in East Norwich, but all the filming took place outside on the back terrace. They also used the Sagamore Yacht Club balcony, and created an even nicer second floor area for the filming of an episode. Filming also took place in Locust Valley at McLaughlin & Co. on Forest Avenue. Manager Kaye Weninger sent photos that appeared in the Enterprise Pilot with great shots of actor Paulo Costanzo wearing his signature small brimmed hat.

Last year the crew was at the Oyster Bay Marine Center, using the floating docks for sets, with a big sign on an awning saying “Montauk Yacht Club.” There are photos of that here, taken by Friends of the Bay Executive Director Patricia Aitken while doing their water quality monitoring of the Oyster Bay/Cold Spring Harbor Watershed area last year. Interestingly, this week FOB returned to that work, after their winter hiatus.

Ms. Aitken spotted the crew and cast of Royal Pains at work in Oyster Bay and Bayville. She took photos on her cell phone that she is sharing with readers here.

Giving Residents Ideas

Royal Pains used Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park’s beach when they created a Hamptons country club feeling to the site. It made residents wonder why it can’t really be re-created there with colorful umbrellas, chairs and tables and outside food service.

That was the take of Walter Imperatore of Renaissance Properties who manages the Oyster Bay real estate of Charles Wang, which includes many retail venues in town. He said, “One of the things Royal Pains did was to put a Farmers’ Market in the Renaissance Plaza located behind the store Chrison & Bellina, between Audrey Avenue and the town parking lot. I got involved with that concept for the filming of the show. We see their visual approach and it helps energize us to do things like that.”

And that is just what the Oyster Bay Main Street Association did at the time. They created the Farmer’s Market that is open on Fridays around the Derby-Hall Band Stand in Townsend Park during the summer months.

Mr. Imperatore added that seeing TR Park with market umbrellas and outdoor furniture creating a restaurant on the beach made him ask, “Why don’t we have one?”

Town Permit Process

When Royal Pains comes to Oyster Bay it is issued a permit by Town Hall to use a certain location. They often use Firemen’s Field for staging, even if they are not using it in a scene, said Phyllis Barry, a town spokesperson. She said they also get help from the police department in closing the streets. They pay the town $500 for a permit for using a location - usually for just one day - they rarely exceed that time, she said, adding that, “They are still using Town Hall on and off for exterior shots of the Hampton Heritage Hospital.”

It should be noted that some villages and towns charge more for a permit. When The In-Laws production company wanted to use a house on Shutter Lane in Oyster Bay Cove several years ago, the cost was about $1,000 a day. Local residents weren’t pleased and wanted more money for the inconvenience and as a result the Peter Falk film used a Glen Cove location instead.

Ms. Phyllis Barry and Mr. Imperatore said it is the individual shop keepers that deal with the Royal Pains crews on dressing up the businesses.

A Royal Pain

Mr. Imperatore said, when Royal Pains wants to use a location in the hamlet they often contact his tenants since the company owns and manages so many local commercial and residential sites – more than 70. “They contacted us for use of the Buckingham storefront,” he added, speaking of Buckingham Village.

“Chrison & Bellina is big with them. It’s just the right spot and Catherine Drabin was one of the first people they worked with. It’s a great activity. Just having that kind of energy coming into town is fun,” said Mr. Imperatore.

Catherine Drabin of Chrison & Bellina, located at 24 Audrey Avenue, said that in August or September of last year, they were using the building next door to hers as a coffee shop. It has tall French doors, similar to a coffee shop in East Hampton. The elegantly restored building at 20 Audrey Avenue in Oyster Bay recently housed the Theodore Roosevelt Association.

Catherine said, “Part of me is happy because they come into town and show it looking wonderful and like the Hamptons, but it doesn’t promote business here. They compliment us on having a lovely village but no one knows it’s Oyster Bay and we don’t get kudos for that. Several of the people have come into my shop here and bought things, but I have unique items.”

She was also concerned that they bring a large crew here, but mostly bring in food and coffee and set up a whole base camp at Firemen’s Field. “I’d like it better if they bought coffee and bagels in town and let the businesses prosper. They are taking advantage of our wonderful businesses.

“I do feel they take advantage of me too. I have to shut down because of them, although they do compensate everyone who they are blocking. But still, they are coming into town and disrupting things. Maybe they should be paying or donating something for our hanging baskets as well.

“We spend a lot of money for flowers for the hamlet. We hold special events to raise money to pay for them. I’ve talked to Town Hall about it. It’s easy for them to get a permit. I’d like to say to them, ‘I’m not against them. I just would like to see them be a little more thoughtful about the local businesses.’ Maybe they could do a little more, like give out coffee vouchers, or ice cream vouchers or even just making a donation to the chamber. I know they have unions to contend with, but it would be nice if instead of just the warm fuzzy feelings we get from seeing the hamlet on TV, we could benefit from the exposure,” concluded Ms. Drabin

Chit Chat With Mark Feuerstein

Mark grew up inNew York City. After receiving his commencement from Princeton University, he then moved to London to study at The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Mark briefly returned to reside in New York to fulfill an incredible opportunity in a sitcom in the mid 1990’s and now has been living in Los Angeles for the past 15 years. In July of 2005, Mark married Dana Klein, a remarkable television writer and producer, at the Four Seasons-Biltmore Hotel inSanta BarbaraCalifornia. Today they have three angelic children Lila, Frisco andAdelaide.

For seven months out of the year, Mark leaves his family and their Los Angeles home and flies to New York to maintain residency. Royal Pains is filmed at various locations throughout Long Island including the world famous Oheka Castle and Huntington Hospital in Huntington, Audrey Avenue in Oyster Bay, South Freeport and other eminent and enticing areas on Long Island. He is only home with his family for five months (in between filming). Each year, during the summer, Dana comes toNew Yorkwith their children for two and a half months. They stay in Bridgehampton and enjoy the long summer days onLong Island’s resplendent beaches, in the golden sand.

So, you seem very comfortable in your new role…

Absolutely! 100 percent! There is nothing like having the support of a network and one that’s doing incredibly well to boost your confidence in your own gain and character, and to boost the confidence of an entire project. I mean you can’t know what it feels like where all network executives are scrambling to make the show work by changing a plot, changing the character list, changing the entire tone of a show. I was on a very high quality drama like “Once and Again” and “West Wing” and “Ally McBeal”…all of which had incredible show runners. But now I’m on a network where they support you and they believe in everything they do. It takes brilliant visionaries to create a personality around a network and that is what they have done.

So Mark, this is your fourth or fifth role as a DR. Is this a coincidence?

“I have a great pedigree. I was in a great High School and I was in a great college. I even got a full scholarship to go to London. All of this amounted to a great admission to a great law school or a medical school and I could have put my parents at ease. But I didn’t. So they had to sweat it out for several years while I was auditioning for Pringles commercials. And the least I could do for them was to play every profession they wish I could have been. So I play doctors and lawyers and accountants and once in a while a salesman. But basically I think there is no better profession that I can pretend to be, so on the High Holidays I can say, “Yeah I’m a doctor.” Take a composite of all the doctors you have been to, put them all together into one 40yr old male image and it will be a doctor that resembles me.

Would you give up acting, after all these roles as a doctor, to go to medical school?

Ahh ..NO. I took biology in college and I believe my grade was a D. I knew I didn’t have the intellectual rigor to do the lab reports and the memorization for the 14 hours a day. Ironically I do spend 14 hours a day memorizing my lines instead of nerves. But I could not worship the medical profession any more than I do now. There are people who have in them both knowledge and wisdom and physically can go into a room and open up a human body and fix it like it were a car. They are miracle workers. That is what they did to my daughter who had a heart defect. I will never look at the medical profession the same again.

As the brilliant Hank Lawson on the USA’s hit series Royal Pains, Mark Feuerstein has never encountered a medical emergency he couldn’t unravel. Yet, as a father in real life, he has never seen more than band aids and casts. In reality, Mark has already had to deal with a health crisis more discouraging than any script he has read. Dana and Mark’s youngest daughter Addie, who is now two and a half years old, was diagnosed with ALCAPA, an unimaginable and potentially fatal heart defect. Mark talks about this:

“Until then my only knowledge personally had only been casts or band aids. And suddenly I was thrown into the deep end of medial uncertainties and it was my daughter. When you see the care, the brilliance, the calm under pressure of the nurses in a children’s ICU hospital, they were geniuses. They remain steady and took her coronary artery off of her pulmonary artery and placed it on her aorta the first time around. The second time around they had to repair her mitral valve. We just went to the cardiologist two days ago and she has as close to a clean bill of health as you can get. She still has a slight regurgitation but she is two and a half years old, running around bossing everyone around: Adelaide Feuerstein! You just sit back and appreciate the miracle of modern science and medicine and the saviors that are doctors and nurses.”

Mark, what are your favorite parental moments?

“My favorite parental moments are on Sunday mornings when I am home in LA… I let my wife sleep in and I get up at 5:30 am with our three children. I make breakfast then we head to the Farmer’s Market. I buy all the fresh produce and then we go on the pony rides.”

Who taught you the importance of giving back? Who is your charitable influence in your life?

“My father has always been a pillar of the community at our synagogue. He has given us his time. As a lawyer he has given thousands of hours to help local organizations from the synagogues, to the schools I’ve attended, to the families involved in all. To a fault he has given whatever he can to those people. Having that as an example and watching that showing his light, as my mother has all her life too, being just very open, very giving people…they are a great example. That’s what I would have to say from a charitable approach. My father is always talking about Mitzvah (Mitzvah is the act of kindness performed by or to a Jewish person. It is also a Jewish religious duty or obligation) and about my grandmother who raised 6 children on the lower east side ofManhattan. She too was a very generous soul. People were always welcomed into her house. As far as Mitzvah…repairing the world one person at a time is very important to me and I try to show this to my children. It was represented beautifully to me by my father.”

Outside of his role as a doctor, father and husband, Mark has an extremely compassionate soul. His integrity toward others, commitment to his beliefs and a life time of practicing Mitzvah has molded him into an honest and charitable man. He will be emceeing the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund’s Honor at the Castle Gala on April 24th, 2012 at the Oheka Castle in honor of all the fallen officers who have lost their lives serving others. “I am very excited to be at the Law Enforcement Memorial Fund. Every civil servant (police officers) like doctors, have devoted their lives to the greater good beyond themselves. A person who devoted their life to something and is thankful and gratified in how they serve other people is truly admirable to me. My hat goes off to them. It is a great honor to be representing such a great cause.”

Royal Pains has promoted recurring guest stars Campbell Scott and Brooke D'Orsay to series regulars for the USA drama's fourth season, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.

Scott has portrayed mysterious millionaire Boris Kuester von Jurgens-Ratenicz since the series' pilot episode. D'Orsay has recurred since Season 2, playing Evan's girlfriend, now fiancée, Paige Collins.
