Backup LGAPP with EFS Explorer

I've was reading the forum and I always read new members asking how they deal with EFS Media builder or how they should upgrade /downgrade their firmware.

NOTE : I assume that you have already :

1- installed LG Suite Drivers from the CD (phone box).

2- downloaded EFS Media Builder from here , or here (this version work without problems with Antivirus)

First : Disabling McAfee ( This post done with OLD EFS Media Builder ) you need to ENABLE you antivirus after finishing by pressing FIX IT button in the main option screen of the SecurityCenter (McAfee)

I hope you will not need to disable it after all after the new version of the EFS MediaBuilder

Update Firmware Nokia Original Version With Nokia Software Update (NSU)

NSU lets you upgrade your phone's firmware, but it will keep your operator's personalization and revert to it, even if you flashed the phone to a non-branded firmware with Phoenix before.

Here’s a tutorial that will teach you how to update your phone’s firmware to a Nokia original version with NSU (Nokia Software Update).
NSU reads the product code of your phone and it searches the database for a newer version of the corresponding firmware in order to upgrade it. This is why you will need to change the product code of your phone into a non-branded product code, before running NSU.
Download the NSS (Nemesis Service Suite please ask Mr.Google for this software!) in order to change the phone’s product code then download NSU from here: http://www.nokia.com/softwareupdate.
Let's Start.......

1. Install NSS

2. Install NSU

3. Connect your phone and wait for Windows to install the drivers.

4. Open NSS and click on “Scan for new device” on the right-upper part of the window

5.Click on the icon Phone info

6.Click on scan

7.you can change the product code on the right of the phone info window of NSS and then mark the case Enable.
Now press Write and your phone’s product code will be changed (you might think that nothing happened, because the phone is still in normal mode, and the changing of the product code only takes a couple of seconds, but don’t worry, the product code changed.
Please Ask Mr.Google For Your Nokia Productcode!!!!!

8.Close NSS and you can proceed now with the NSU flashing.
When the flashing with NSU is over, start-up your phone and you’ll phone’s firmware is the latest Nokia non-branded firmware in date!

LG KU990 Backups

If you have lost your backup or did not make one, you can find a backup for many LGAPP folders at Original KU990 Backups - Windows Live.

Currently Available Backups:

* Unbranded: 10G
* 3 (Three): 10A
* Cosmote: 10A
* O2: 10E
* T-Mobile: 10H
* Vodafone: 10I

Important Information:

* Only use the backup that exactly matches your current firmware.
* The backups are named in the following order: LGAPP_BRAND_SWV.zip - BRAND = the branding of the firmware, e.g. O2 or Vodafone, and SWV = software version, e.g. 10A, 10C or 10E.

If you have a backup of your unmodified firmware:

1. Compress your backed up LGAPP folder into a Zip (preferable) or Rar archive (use 7-Zip or Winzip) - this thread is not for .DZ or similar firmware flashes.
2. Upload it to a file-sharing site such as SendSpace or MediaFire (not RapidShare or MegaUpload as they impose download limits)

Note:

In EFS Explorer, rename LGAPP to TOTO.
Then right click and select refresh. Click the disconnect button on the toolbar if your phone does not disconnect automatically.

You're phone will restart and display a yellow 'Refreshing screen'. Reconnect with EFS explorer.

Then copy the contents (all of the stuff inside) of the backup LGAPP folder into the TOTO folder on your phone.

Once copying is finished, rename TOTO back to LGAPP, right click a blank area and select refresh, then disconnect your phone.

As I’ve mentioned before, the 5800 is not the first Nokia touch device running Symbian, but it’s the first Nokia phone running S60v5. It’s optimized for touch and that’s a giant leap forward, especially for existing S60v3 users.

In fact, I’ve decided that from now on, all my Nokia devices will be touch-based…

The user experience may not be as visually polished or intuitive as OS X on the iPhone (which features a new interface from the ground up). but the 5800 works well one-handed, and benefits from all the power and flexibility of Symbian, with more screen real-estate than ever.

Speaking of the screen: it’s gorgeous - all 640×360 pixels of it!

The only downside is the resistive touch sensor. I understand the desire to cater to a broad range of markets by supporting stylus input, but this phone (like the N97) begs for a capacitive touch sensor. Are you listening, Nokia?

- Music:
Being an XpressMusic device, I think of the 5800 as the successor to the N81 music phone.

It sounds better than most other Nokia devices I’ve used, with less background noise, less distortion, more detail and a flatter frequency response. It also features a standard 3.5 mm audio connector (with TV output) and ships with an 8 GB micro-SDHC card.

The deal breaker for me is the lack of gapless playback. Strangely, this only appears to be available on the iPhone so far…

- Imaging:
The camera, while falling short of the current state-of-the-art, does a reasonable job. The 5800 takes decent pictures and records above average videos as long as you avoid shooting in low-light.

When compared with the competition, the G1 camera comes ahead.

- Applications:
The catalog of available S60v5 applications is still limited - for example, there is Qik, but not Jaiku. Of course, there’s also support for S60v3 applications, but it’s extremely limited.

The implementation of touch is also hit-and-miss. I played with Google Maps, which is terrific. But Nokia’s Web browser is no match for Safari on the iPhone, despite supporting Flash!

- Overall:
The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic represents the future of Symbian. The hardware is very nice - it’s definitely a good effort on features and price, other than the resistive touch screen and the noisy camera.

It’s not (yet) competitive in terms of user experience, but improvements are always just a software upgrade away

Reset code on Nokia 40 and 60 series

3. After a few seconds you will be asked if you want to format or cancel

To perform a Hard Reset, follow this instruction TO THE LETTER:

1. Restart the device. NOTE: You DO NOT have to remove the battery!! You can

The restart option in TaskSpy is in the menu under "Tools"; Hotkey is Shift+Ctrl+R
(Non-related bug issue in v0.96: do NOT press the Menu key while in Preferences:

NOTE: If you still decide to remove the battery and the battery is out too long,
you must press the power button on the front to start the device.

2. When the image that says "NOKIA"(NOT the HANDS: that's TOO LATE!!!) comes up,

3. press AND HOLD Shift+Ctrl+F(don't stress, there's PLENTY of time) and

4. KEEP HOLDING KEYS(this is the CRUCIAL point) until you FIRST get A BLANK SCREEN, and

5. KEEP HOLDING KEYS(this is the SECOND crucial point) until it prompts you to confirm the format!

And BTW, it's "Shift+Ctrl" and NOT "Ctrl+Shift", so you're "shifting" a control character
and not "controlling" a capital letter. But this is just formal: it actually doesn't matter

Download and install NSU (nokia software updater) and NSS (Nemesis something something) then follow what nemesis tells you to do to install the proper USB drivers for your phone. I had to do this because it had problems being able to detect/scan my phone.
MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING (it's in the menu, save the settings and contacts and whatever else you want)

Once you have both installed open up the NSS client and scan the phone.
There should be an option to read and see the product code. Check off the write enable box and then change the product code accordingly to the colour you have.
Mine was blue, I found the code through Hofo, but don't remember it off the top of my head.

Once you've changed the product number, close out of NSS completely.
Launch NSU and scan your phone. Mine was at FW 3.63, it prompted me to update to 7.something.

I agreed. This erases everything off of your phone and installs the new FW and Nokia OS.
After it's done (which will take like 20 minutes) restore from the backup you made on your memory card.

My texting took a few minutes to initialize, but works flawlessly now, and the menu is SO much faster, and I can set personalized ringtones and any mp3 song as my ringtone or alarm sound.

I know this isn't extremely detailed, and if you don't understand any part of it, contact me or find the original tutorial. But trust me, unbranding this phone is so worth it it's not even funny.

Nokia headset Magic

As some of you may know, modern Nokia phone headsets have 4-conductor plugs, while standard headsets have 3. You may have also found out that plugging a standard headset into a modern Nokia phone does not work.

After some playing around with my Nokia 1100, I discovered a few cool tricks.

But first... the information to follow is just from my own experimentation, and may not be entirely accurate. Use at your own risk. I'm not responsible if you do something stupid.

If you want to connect your own audio devices to a Nokia phone, here's the signal descriptions of the terminals in the phone's headset jack:

TIP = earphone (+)
RING1 = microphone (+)
RING2 = earphone (-)
SLEEVE = microphone (-)

You don't have to purchase a rare, hard-to-find 4-conductor 2.5mm plug. A standard 3-conductor one will work for pretty much all your audio connection needs. It's sleeve will just bridge the earphone and microphone negative signals together, which is exactly how standard headsets are wired.

The only reason a standard headset will not work is that standard headsets use the following wiring:

TIP = microphone (+)
RING = earphone (+)
SLEEVE = common microphone and earphone (-)

If you just swap the TIP and RING (either by rewiring your headset, or making an adapter), it will work. Apparently such adapters are also commercially available.

Some more fun:

The Nokia phone detects when a headset it plugged in by measuring the impedance across the earphone. This is also how the phone detects the difference between a headset and a car hands-free adapter; The genuine Nokia accessories each have a different impedance. I don't know at this time what they are, but check back in a few days and I'll have the DC resistance of each crossover point figured out, and the DC resistance of a genuine Nokia "earbud" style headset. This could be of interest if you desire the particular operating characteristics of a specific mode (ie. headset, car adapter, etc.)
I know on the Nokia 1100, you can set it to lock the backlight on at all times when a car adapter is used, but this option is not available when a headset is used. So if you desire continuous backlighting, you may want to make an interface which fools the phone into thinking it's connected to a car kit.

Another cool trick:

Placing the phone into TTY/TDD mode swaps the TIP and RING1 signals, so that they do match a standard headset. So can you simply set this mode to plug in your existing standard headset? Well, only if you have super-sensitive ears and are prepared to shout into the microphone! In TTY/TDD mode, the signal levels and drive impedance change to something optimized for a proper TTY/TDD, rather than the tiny earphone and electret microphone capsule of a headset. I can't remember the name of the standard, but if you search for it, you can probably find the ITU document which details the signal levels and impedance of a standard TTY/TDD designed for cell phones. TTY/TDD mode also changes the way the CODEC operates, which may not be ideal for human voice. But TTY/TDD is a good mode to use for passively recording calls... it generally works quite well with typical home and professional audio equipment line inputs. Just wire up the right cable or connect the equipment with the right adapters.

Final note: You should use capacitive coupling or inductive isolation if you're making your own patch cable. And use shielded wire... individually shielded is best, but you can use 2-conductor + shield wire if your cable is really short. (If it's too long, you'll get crosstalk from the earphone audio bleeding into the microphone audio).

Oh yeah... if this all sounds too technical for you, don't mess with it. Ground loops and RF bleeding down the cables could make the phone cause interference with other devices, and that would be bad. Incorrect wiring may also damage the phone or other equipment.

Step Flashing Sony Ericsson K310i to W200i

If you are usuary of advanced level, with post of billnick he will be enough you to make the conversion.

Result (All tested):
A. The phone will get 26MB of memory (Real)
B. The cam works perfectly (difference from the conversion K310@K510)
C. You gain the Walkman option
D. You gain the Flash Lite Menus

1. Download the following files:(YOU CAN SEARCH IT IN GOOGLE)

When we convert it, we will lose all the data.

C. It will ask you to press the C button again and connect the USB cable, after 3 minutes (aprox) it will create a file in the SeTool folder, with the name “GDFS_xxx.bin” (This is our GDFS backup)
D. Unplug the USB cable, take out and put the battery.

A. In Files, click in ADD and we load the W200 FS
B. In MISC files the Custom (CDA)
C. Click in FLASH.
D. Again, a window like in the picture 2 will appear, we unplug the phone, take the battery, and put it again, and press "READY". Then, we press the C button of our phone and plug the USB cable.

7. After 4 min (aprox.) the message READY will appear, we unplug the USB cable and take off and put again the battery.

8. We press CLEAR

9.
A. In FILES, click in ADD and we load the W200 MAIN.
B. Click in FLASH.
C. Press C y connect the USB cable, after a couple of seconds (same as before), the message “DETACH CABLE FROM PHONE…” appears. We unplug the phone, take out and put the battery again and we click in READY. It will ask us again to press C and plug the USB cable.

10. We unplug the USB cable, take out the battery, put our simcard, put the battery, turn the phone on... and that's it!

Upgrade/ Flashing SE K530 to W660

Step 1: Backing up your files.
Everything saved on the phone will be deleted!

So backup your contacts to your memory card:
Contacts > Options > Advanced > Backup to M.S.

Use MyPhoneExplorer to backup your messages:

And also move your stuff that's saved on the phone to your Memory Stick.

Note: Applications and Games will be deleted, regardless of being saved on the phone or Memory Stick.

Once you've backed up your stuff, move onto Step 2.

Step 2: Flashing the firmware.
If you wish to keep your warranty and not continue, STOP NOW!

First connect your phone to the Sony Ericsson Update Service:
(Select your real phone here, K610/K618/V630, Z610 or K530, NOT W660!)
Just follow the instructions, this will install the drivers needed to do this.
BUT DO NOT UPDATE YOUR PHONE OR IT WILL BECOME CID53, MEANING YOU WONT BE ABLE TO CONVERT IT!

Once you've done that, download XS++ 3.2:

f5x3njvuag Once downloaded, open XS++.exe, and connect your phone.
Once connected, it should display some information about your phone.
The EROM CID must be 52 (OTP CID doesn't matter), if not, XS++ will ask if you want to upgrade to CID 52.
WARNING! THE CID IS NOT DOWNGRADE-ABLE, ONCE IT'S UPGRADED THERE'S NO TURNING BACK!
Now, click the GDFS tab then click 'Backup GDFS'.
This will make a backup of your GDFS, which will restore your phone in 90% of cases of a bad flash.

Do not disconnect during "flashing" operations or you may damage your phone!
Only disconnect your phone when XS++ says "Disconnected... Unplug the phone"!

Once the GDFS backup is done, XS++ will disconnect your phone.

Now you need the firmware.
Look for W660 R8BB001 GENERIC firmware on 4shared, TopSE, iProTebe or if you have access TopSony.

You need:

* MAIN (Download) (Username & Password: bugmenot)
* FS (Must also be R8BB001, there are some here.)
* Custpack (Must have same region as FS, but not necessarily W660)

Important Information!:
Many people have experienced the "Configuration Error".
This is because they did not download a custpack!
You NEED to download a custpack and extract the files (with folders) into the 'own_custpack' folder in the XS++ directory.

(Don't know what region you need? Look here)

If it's a K610/K618/V630 (NOT Z610 or K530) you also need:

* K610 Camera Drivers (Download: K610_Pack_1.zip)
* K610 Display Driver (Download: K610_Pack_1.zip)
* Modified Light Effect (Download: K610_Pack_1.zip)
* SEtool2 Lite 1.11 (Download Here)
* Illumination Patch (Download: W660_R8BB001_Patches.zip)

Password for Archives: solidsnake204

Once you've got the firmware, open the Custpack and extract it (with Folders!) to the own_custpack folder in the XS++ directory.
Make sure that your phone is charged 100%!
Once you've done that open XS++ and then connect your phone.
It should automatically go to the Flash tab.
Tick 'Flash Main Firmware' and browse to the MAIN file. (It should be a .mbn file)
Tick 'Flash File System' and browse to the FS file. (It should be a .fbn file)
Tick 'Customize File System' and in 'Phone Model' select 'Own custpack'

Your XS++ screen should look similar to this:

Now click 'Flash'.
Once it's done, XS++ will say "Disconnected... Unplug the phone"
When it says that, unplug the USB cable, take out then re-insert the battery, then turn it on.

K530 users: Your phone will now be converted. There is no need for you to continue the guide.

K610/K618/V630 and Z610 users: Continue with the guide.

It should turn on find, but you will notice that the screen colours are inverted, and the walkman will crash when run (Except on Z610).
We'll be fixing those problems in the next few steps.

Step 3: Fixing the screen, camera, and partly the walkman.
Switch off the phone, remove then reinsert the battery and start XS++.
Connect your phone, and click on the FSX tab, then click 'Start FSX'
Now wait until XS++ says "Device FS mapped...OK!"
Now browse to ifs/settings/display. You should have a screen like this:

Now download K610_Pack_1.zip (or Z610_DISP_DRIVER.zip if converting a Z610) and extract the dispdriver0.dat (and dispdriver1.dat if converting a Z610), then drag the file (both files if converting a Z610)) into the 'Enumerated Files' pane, XS++ will now upload the new display driver(s).

Z610 Users ONLY: Now browse to ifs/settings/camera and delete "camdriver0.dat" and "camdriver1.dat".
Then click the "Shutdown FS" button and then disconnect your phone when XS++ says you can.
You are now finished! Please stop here!
(K610/K618/V630 users continue on with the guide)

Now browse to ifs/settings/camera, extract the camdriver0.dat and camdriver1.dat from the ZIP and again place them in the 'Enumerated files' pane.
Now browse to tpa/preset/system/lighteffects/system, extract the power_up_musicmode.ble from the ZIP and drag into the 'Enumerated Files' pane.
Now click 'Shutdown FSX', and when XS++ says to, disconnect your phone.

Step 4: Making the walkman work.

This process can take a while! If you don't have much time, do not do this now!

Download SEtool2 Lite 1.11 (Download) and extract it somewhere.
Now, go into the SEtool2 Lite folder then into the qamaker folder, and drag your MAIN file onto the qamaker.exe icon, a 'Quick Access Patch' will be made.

~ The Quick Access Patch is required to patch DB2020 CID52 phones ~

Now start SEtool2 Lite, select W660 as the phone type and then click 'Read GDFS'.
It will make a copy of your GDFS, like XS++ did, and DO NOT disconnect the phone or press Stop until SEtool says "Elapsed: xx secs."
Disconnect the USB cable, remove the battery then reinsert it.

Make sure W660 is selected as Phone Type, tick 'Bypass DB2020 security'.
In the files box, click 'Add' and add the MAIN file.
Then in the MISC files box, add the Quick Access patch you generated not long ago.
Your SEtool2 LITE window should look a bit like this:

If it does, click FLASH.

It will then ask you to connect your phone, so connect it, and it will begin.
During the process, it may ask you to unplug the phone, remove then reinsert the battery, click READY then connect the phone.
So don't leave the computer or minimise the window!

During the process, it may look like the program has stopped/crashed/finished but it hasn't!
DO NOT DISCONNECT THE PHONE!
Only disconnect when SEtool2 LITE says "Elapsed: xx secs."
This process may take about 30 mins!

Once done, SEtool2 LITE will say "Elapsed: xx secs." (Or "Elapsed: xxxxxx secs." )
Unplug the phone, remove the battery then reinsert it.

-That's the long bit over-

Download W660_R8BB001_Patches.zip (Pass: solidsnake204) and extract the illumination patch.
Now in SEtool2 Lite, make sure W660 is selected as Phone type, uncheck 'Bypass DB2020 security', and check 'Use "quick access" patch', (if it hasn't already) remove the MAIN from the files box, and in the MISC files box, browse to the Illumination Patch you just extracted.
Your SEtool Lite window should look a bit like this:

If it does, then click WRITE SCRIPT.
Take care NOT to press WRITE GDFS as that will damage your phone!

Tutorial Modification A2 phones

Wanna Modding/flashing your SE A2 phones ??, so lest get to flashing but before that we must get the A2 file access & flasher tool you can read HERE in other Post.

Follow this Step :

1- Open the A2 file access & flasher tool:

2- Press the "Add" button:

3- Look for the MAIN and FS. You can flash them both at the same time.

4- Once you've added them, press the "Flash"

5- Do exactly what it asks you to do(Hold "C" key and connect the cable). It'll start flashing the phone if you connect the phone right.

6- When it's done, disconnect the phone, take out the battery, reinsert it(the battery).

7- Now, let's customize(or finalize as some ppl know it).

8- Press the "FileSystem tool" button. Do exactly what it asks you to do(Hold "C" key and connect the cable).

9- Then let's go to TPA > PRESET > CUSTOM. Once we're there drag and drop all the files that are within the custom we downloaded. When they are all uploaded, press the "Shutdown" button. Disconnect the phone and take out the battery, reinsert it and turn it on.

10- The phone's ready to work.

Imaging Tips Displaying Images:

To View an image: View any picture by going to File Manager, and selecting the "pictures" folder. Select a picture and press VIEW. To view photos while using the camera, press VIEW.

To rotate the picture in the display, select "Horizontal."

Zooming: You can zoom in on a picture by selecting Horizontal mode. In Horizontal mode you can zoom in on a picture, or zoom out, by using the +/- button, or by using buttons 1 and 3. When zoomed in, use the joystick to move around the image.

Camera Tips

Three ways to start the camera app:
1. Open lense cover. This method works even when the keypad is locked
2. If lense cover is already open, and phone has gone back to standby mode, hold the shutter button down firmly for a second. This will restart the camera app
3. If lense is already open, go to Menu, Camera to manually restart the camera app.

Camera/Video Keyboard Shortcuts:

0 = Select unlimited length recording or 10 second recording limit
1 = Opens menu at "picture size" (for quick picture size changes)
4 = Macro mode
7 = Night mode
* = Camera Light
+/- button = digital zoom control
up joystick=decrease exposure
down joystick=increase exposure
right joystick=camera mode
left joystick=video mode
(joystick directions mentioned above are taken to be the direction if the phone is held vertically. Since the camera is used horizontally, the up joystick command appears as left joystick etc)

Muting the Camera

Before opening the lense cover hold # to toggle between silent mode easily.

Note on Camera muting: Muting the camera is only possible in some firmware releases. If you cannot mute the camera, you can hack it so that you can by following the instructions here for camera silencing.

Another Method: You can also make a call to a (preferably free) number, then start-up the cam. If you take a pic while the call is still connected, the camera won't make a single sound!

Caring for the Camera

A traditional photographers blower brush is very handy for keeping your camera clean. You should also be careful of dust on the lense when cleaning with a cloth. The lense is plastic, so easily scratched by fine particles trapped in the cloth or on the lense surface.

Avoid water like the plague. If you get water on the phone, turn it off and if the water has penetrated the casing, don't turn the phone on again for 24 hours, to give it a chance to dry thoroughly. A wet phone will usually survive, but if turned on while wet there is a much greater chance of the phone frying completely.

Tutorial Modding SE K630

Sony Ericsson mobile phone is the basis of open source Java. So we can modify the software is, or using the software, but other types of fixed handphine SE) or can create their own code in order to function more mobile.

Here is a tutorial modify SE K630, but previously prepare in advance:

1. PC / Laptop
2. SE K630
3. USB data cable
4. A2uploader program, please download HERE.

After you prepare all equipment perangnnya now go to step:
1. Extract using winrar / WinZip / alzip compressed program or the other. Results A2Uploader download and there will be 2 files that a2uploader.exe and ggsetup-2.2.0.1.exe.
2. Double click ggsetup-2.2.0.1.exe
3. Then double-click the new a2uploader.exe, then new window will appear as below

4. Click on a file system tools and there is info on the left side down on the a2uploader that you have to press C key and insert the USB data cable to pc / laptop (remember before I used the USB data kable not in pairs).
5. Follow these steps with holding C button and enter the data cable USBnya.
6. Done!
7. You are ready to upload a file to modify the SE K630

Modding SE menu series K, W, Z and S

When you modding your sony ericsson phone's menu, you are editing the xml based code that specifies the menu options and the icons that will represent those options. So you need to upload this modified xml file and any alternative icons you want used in the menu to the /tpa/preset/system/menu on the phone.

How to install the files (we'll get to how to make the files in a second, but this step I've put at the start for handy reference):

First you will need usb drivers installed: http://rapidshare.com/files/15929980/USBFlash.zip

Extract the USB Drivers to a folder on your computer.

Turn off your K800 (or SE phone). Hold down the "C" button, and while holding it, plug in the cable. A windows prompt will find hardware and will ask you if you want to install it automatically or manually. Use the manual option and browse to the folder where you extracted the usb drivers.

Extract to a folder. In the XS++ folder, create two folders called files_to_upload and own_custpack

Run XS++. Click Connect and plug the usb cable into the phone while holding the "c" button. Release the c button when XS++ indicates the phone is connected. You are now connected to the phone's subsystems.

The first thing is to select the access method; generally use BreakSX as the wayin. However, to select the wayin, you will need to click into 'Flash' configuration, tick 'customize file system', and then go back to 'settings' and click BreakXS.

Click FSX: any files in the files_to_upload folder will be copied to the phone's internal file system when you click Start FSX. Alternatively add file names and the full pathname using the "add file" button for any files you want to delete.

The files in files_to_upload folder must have the same directory structure as the phone. For example camera drivers should be saved in /ifs/settings/camera within the files_to_upload folder so they will be copied to that same folder on the phone. Menu files need to be uploaded to /tpa/preset/system/menu

Okay, now on to the fun stuff!

Modifying the Menu

The first step is editing the menu xml file to suit the modifications you have in mind. The most visual modification is the addition of your own icons in the menu. Other modifications include shortcuts to java apps and moving of menu options from one location to another among other tricks.

The xml file we are dealing with is called menu.ml. Within menu.ml is code to instruct the phone how to assemble the menu. The following options are specified for each menu item:
* what function will be initiated when that menu item is selected.
* where that menu item should be located in the menu tree
* what it's name is
* what icon will be displayed both when selected, when unselected, and when in a shortcut list

Elements can be cut and pasted easily from one sub element to another, or from one level to another, by ensuring everything within the element tags (and the tags themselves) is copied to the new location.

Layout:
Main Menu items can have the option "layout" specified, such as DesktopTopMenuGFX2 (the standard 3x4 icon layout) or DesktopFullScreen (each menu item takes up the full screen) or SingleRow (list form).

Label
label type is to use the embedded text hook for the menu item name, example DIL_PRE_PLAY_LINK_TXT, or to specify your own name, example

icon:
This is where you set the menu item's icons. The value 'pos' defines which position the icon is need for; the selected menu item, the unselected menu item or the menu item in a shortcut list. The options are 'selected', 'unselected' or 'shortcut'.

The value 'source' specifies whether the icon is an embedded image in the main firmware or a file in the file system. The options are 'internal' for embedded or 'file' for file system.

Contained within the ICON tag is the name of either an internal icon, for example PREPLAY_DESKTOP_ICN, or the name of the icon file contained in the same folder as menu.ml, for example icon1_unselected.png.

Link Type:
Link Type defines the action that will be performed when the menu item is chosen. When set to 'internal', the phone uses element id to determine what action will be initiated.

When set to 'java', a java program can be specified. When JAVA is specified, these additional values must be also specified:

Using Your Own Icons

Now I'm not going into the how-to's of photoshopping your own icons, I'm no Photoshop guru, so I'll assume you either made them yourself or downloaded them and they are ready to be used in your menu.

Icons can be named anything you want, as long as the code in menu.ml points to the same name. However SE seem to use the following standard for naming menu icons located within the file system:

'icon1_unselected.png', where "1" is the menu item placement in main menu, and "unselected" is the pos. So the selected icon for the entertainment menu for example, is icon3_selected.png. Note: this is a convention only, it's the code in menu.ml that determines the actual placement not the icon name, but if icon developers use the same standard then it is easier for people to use those icons with their own menu.ml files, because everyone will be using the same naming convention.

So that's it a basic how to on menu modding.

Tutorial XS++ FSX

Using FSX you can upload anything to FS of the phone. Its Just like FAR MANAGER.

You can add flash menus, change camera driver, change acoustics, add languages with FSX

Flash menus
flash menus are in diffirent sizes(128*160,176*220 and 240*320) and diffirent versions (fl 1.1: all older then k850, fl2.0 k850/w910, fl2.1: latest c902 c905 w705 w595)
only a right version works for your phone!

you have to upload the desktop (*.swf) to tpa/preset/system/desktop/flash/

then you need to have a theme, if the theme came with the menu, it is most of the time allready linked to the menu in the *.xml, if you want to use the menu with any other theme you have to link them first, the easist way to do this is:

1. DOWNLOAD MTC HERE and install it.
2. click desktopstyle
3. enter the name of the menu and press ok
4. save the theme.
5. send it to your phone and use it

Camera drivers
Never use untested camera drivers, they can kill your camera!
to change camera drivers go to ifs/settings/camera/ and change the camdriver0.dat to the downloaded one.(still needs to be named "camdriver0.dat"

Acoustics
drag and drop all the files in IFS\SETTINGS\ACOUSTIC
db2020 uses *.zapf
db2010 uses *.apf
db3150 uses *.wbxml

Display drivers
put the file "dispdriver0.dat" in IFS\SETTINGS\DISPLAY
these drivers are a bit rare, for most phones there are very few of these drivers availible on the net.

Walkman 2.0

Skins

There are 3 types of walkman 2.0 skins: 240*320, 240*320 small(for w880) and 176*220 (W350, W380, W610 and W660)

If you download a skin most of a time it allready is in a folder if you get only files, put them in a folder.

drag and drop the whole folder into TPA/SYSTEM/multimedia/MP/SKIN/

Visualizations

*.png files go in TPA/PRESET/SYSTEM/multimedia/AV_DATA
*.avx files go in TPA/PRESET/SYSTEM/multimedia/AV
note: the *.avx files controll how the visualization moves, you can edit them in notepad.

Menu
be sure the menu is made for your phone!

to go back to the original menu replace the modded menu.ml with the original menu.ml

put the layout.xml file here: tpa/system/layout/
with an edited layout you can remove opperator logo, move battery and signal, move all clock and date elements on standby.

splash image(before pin), the one you see first after you turn the phone on, normal is black background with the sony ericsson logo.
the file must be a .png for all phones older then k850, and a .gif or .png k850 and newer.
remove the extension and call the file "SPLASH"
Startup image(after pin) must be called "STARTUP_IMAGE_SEMC" (.gif whitout extension)
shutdown image must be called: "SHUTDOWN_IMAGE_SEMC" (.gif whitout exension)

sounds
these sounds are in format and must be renamed to "STARTUP_SOUND_SEMC.mp3" and "SHUTDOWN_SOUND_SEMC.mp3" acording to when you want them to play.

all these files go in TPA\PRESET\SYSTEM\SETTINGS.

In this post, I will shared with about layout the process of flashing your Sony Ericsson w580i using SE Tool 2 Lite.

NEITHER I OR ATT ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE INCURRED TO YOUR DEVICE WHEN FOLLOWING THESE STEPS.

Attention Before do this..!
Before doing anything please make sure you do the following:

* Charge your phone to 90-100%
* Back-up all your contacts to your SIM and Memory Stick
* Remove your SIM Card and Memory Stick

Files Needed

Included in this guide are the following files:

* SETool 2 Lite 1.08
* Sony Ericsson W580i FS
* Sony Ericsson W580i MAIN
* Sony Ericsson CID52 ASIA Customisation

Download Files (31.94 MB)

Flash files for phones other than the W580i should be available at this website: http://topse.ru/files/ (You will need an account to download, use Google translator for English, downloads and sign-up will not work when using translator!)

Step Modding W58oi
1. Extract the RAR file you have just downloaded, inside you will find the following files:

+ setool2lite.rar
+ W580_CDA102568_7_R8A_GENERIC_C_ASIA.ZIP
+ W580_R8BA024_FS_C_ASIA_RED52.fbn
+ W580_R8BA024_MAIN_GENERIC_LA_RED52.mbn

Extract "setool2lite.rar" and leave the rest as is.

2. Go into the directory in which you extract the file "setool2lite", and go into the "drivers" folder, there you will find another folder called "usb_flash_driver". Go into that and launch the installer that is contained in it, proceed as you read, nothing major will happen this is just a SE USB Flash driver for your phone.

Once the installation is done proceed to the next step

3. Go back to the directory in which you extracted "setool2lite" and launch the application "setool2lt.exe"

4. In the application, you will need to select your phone model at the top, in this case it would be the SE W580i.

5. Now in the box where it says "Files:" under the phone model you will need to add the following files:

+ W580_R8BA024_FS_C_ASIA_RED52.fbn
+ W580_R8BA024_MAIN_GENERIC_LA_RED52.mbn

6. In the box where it says "Misc files:" you will need to add the following file:

+ W580_CDA102568_7_R8A_GENERIC_C_ASIA.ZIP

7. Once you have added the files into their appropriate positions you will need to attach your phone to your computer, by holding onto the "C" on your phone and then plugging in the USB cable.

8. As a precautionary measure, make sure all the files are in their right placements and that your phone is detected as a "SEMC Flash Device" or something along those lines.

9. Now you are ready to click "FLASH", DO NOT CLICK ANY OTHER BUTTONS BEFORE OR AFTER THIS PROCESS!

Flashing SE K550i To W610i

In this tutorial sony ericsson phone i will try show you how to modding / flashing K550i To W610i phones. Most important thing to me, before reflashing my phone was, taking a backup of my very essential data(SMS, PhoneBook, Calendar). i searched through the forum and found this post. Please read through the mentioned post and follow it. i did the same.

First you need this program:

1. xs++ 3.1 from HERE

2. w610i main from HERE

3. w610i fs from HERE

4. customize pack from HERE

To begin first of all take your memory card and sim card out of the phone then reinsert the battery but do not turn the phone on. Open up xs++ press connect then connect the usb cable to your phone while holding c on the keypad. If your phone is lower than cid 52 xs++ will automatically tell you to update to cid 52 so do this.

Once it has done the update connect to xs++ again then tick the box flash main firmware and select the firmwware that you downloaded which is labeled w610 r8ba024 main generic red 52

Then do the same for the flash file system and insert the firmware labeled w610 r8ba024 fs cent europe red 52.

Then at the bottom click flash

Once it has finished flashing do not turn the phone on connect to xs++ again but this time click the fsx buton at the bottom then click start fsx and once the list has been generated then navigate to tpa/preset/ then click custom and on the right you should see a file that says customize.xml if you do then go to the customize pack that you downloaded and drag the customize xml from there in to the tpa/preset custom folder on the fsx tab.

Then you must click shutdown on xs++ then yes then disconnect the cable from your phone and take the battery out then put it back in and then start your new cybershot walkman phone

Modding SE S500i To W580i

Helo guys..welcome back to Sony ericsson modding, right now i'll try to tell you how to modding/convert SE S500i To W580i .This guide will give you how to flash/flex your phone using simple tools.
Things you will need, Download it first!

1.xs++ 3.1 from HERE

4.cust pack from HERE

To begin first of all take your

Things you need

Here the Step :
1. Connect Your Phone
Install The Phone XS++ & Connect The Phone (start turn the phone off remove the memory card and take out the battery for a few seconds ... then replace the battery and connect your USB CABLE first to the phone whilst holding the "C" key down then connect it to your USB PORT (still holding the "C" key!))

2.Flashing MAIN FIRMWARE + FILE SYSTEM & CUSTOMIZATION

>Select the downloaded main firmware & filesystem
>select customize filesystem
Model = k800
Select CDA & Region = EUROPE_2(CDA102511/2)
>Set the options as above & Hit FLASH

Basic Modification Sony Ericson Phones

All Sony Ericson Phones can be modded except the new ones like W910i, W960i, W760i and few others. Other Sony Phones are categorized under DB 2020 and DB 2010/12

DB 2010/10 Phones are W200, W300, W550, W600, W700, W800, W810, D750, J300, K300, K310, K320, K500, K510, K700, K750, K758, S700, Z520, Z525, Z530, Z550, and Z558

And DB 2020 Phones include K530, K550, K610, K770, K790, K800, K810, W610, W660, W580, W710, W830, W880, W850, W888, W910, W950, Z610, Z710, S500, T650, and V630

DB2020 and DB2010/12 have different mods available for them but some common ones include better Audio Quality, better Camera Quality and Flash themes. Some Phones like K530i can be cross flashed to W660i.
Now we are going to learn some basics of Sone Ericsson Modding. Please keep in mind that this guide covers both DB 2010/12 and DB 2020 but excludes DB 3150 phones. Please refer to this POST to know which DB series your phone belongs to.

First of all you need to install Sony Ericsson PC Suite and after that please download the USB Drivers from HERE. Extract the files in any folder on your desktop. Now switch off your phone and press C and then connect the wire which you use to connect to your phone to your PC. Then a new dialog box will pop-up saying new Hardware Found.

Now just locate the Drivers which you had extracted and then the drivers will get installed.

Now windows May prompt you saying that Drivers you are trying to install has not passed Windows Logo Testing and maybe unsafe to Install. Just Click on Continue anyway and soon the drivers will be installed.

Now Download XS++ which you will need for nearly all your Modding tasks. Here is the Download Link of XS++. Now just extract XS++ wherever you want and start it. Now click on Connect and then make sure that your phone is switched off, press “C” and connect the Cable to your phone. Soon XS++ will show you the details about your phone and then you will have 4 Options – Flash – FSX – GDFS – Patch.

In this, we only have to flash main again

1- Open Gslide
2- Next to the Flashfile textbox you see "..." press that [1] (See picture)
3- target your main W800_R1BC002_MAIN_EU_EMEA_RED49.bin [2]
4- Press Add and add all your patches [3]
5- Select the output file and press "Process" [4]
6- When its done, open XS++ and connect your phone
7- And flash your main with the output from Gslide
8- Cogratz done!

Flashing SE K750i to W800i

Wanna flash your phone from K750i to a W800i. You are new and almost dont know anything about this. Here you will get a detailed tutorial about how to do that. Ok, lets start.

Requirments:

A DCU-60 - A standard cable, comes with phone
A K750i Recommend updating using SEUS
XS++
A main file
A FS file

First a little about the main file: W800_R1BC002_MAIN_EU_EMEA_RED49.bin

W800_R1BC002_MAIN_EU_EMEA_RED49.bin

W800: The phone
R1BC002: Firmware Version
Main: Indicates that its the main firware
EU_EMEA: The operator
RED49: Color (Red) and lock number 49 CID49

And you need a FS file, i use this: W800_R1BC002_FS_EU3.fbn

Now, lets start flashing.

1. Open XS++
2. Press Start
3. You will get some instructions in the left panel
4. Hold "C" on your phone and connect.
if you get "PORT STATUS: ACTIVE" And nothing happens, then unplug phone, remove battery, and insert again. Then try again.
5. Check "Flash Main Firmware"
6. Press the "..." Button, means browse. Find the main file W800_R1BC002_MAIN_EU_EMEA_RED49.bin and click open
7. Now press "Flash"
8. When its done, it will stuck on 291/291, when its on 291/291 then wait 5 seconds, and unplug phone. In XS++ press Close.
9. Now XS++ is closed. Just enter it again. In your phone: remove battery, insert again. Successfully plug your phone to XS++.
10. Now, instead of Checking "Flash main Firmware". Check "Flash File System", Browse the file W800_R1BC002_FS_EU3.fbn and select it, press open. (Means that only Flash File system is checked)
11. Press "Flash"
12. when its done just remove phone from data-cable, remove battery, reinsert. Enter XS++, attach phone.
13. Now you will have to check "Customize File System", use this:

Select Phone model:
W800

Select CDA and Region:
EUROPE_3 (CDA102425/17)

14. Press "Flash"

When its done, Unplug phone, remove battery, insert again. turn on Phone. And congratulations !! Now your phone is a W800i !!!!

Crossflash K750i to W800i with GFlash

Okay ... as the first tutorial, we will do crossflash K750i to W800i. Should be followed carefully, so avoid the questions that are not necessary, and reduce the risk of failure.
Crossflash what to do? Only is to get the Walkman player features a more cool than the default media player K750i. Are there any features that have been lost if the crossflash to W800i? Unfortunately no. The key activity (activity button) can not be used again, because its function was changed to Walkman button.

Is there a cost? Free bro ... What is needed? HP K750i CID36 RED, USB cable like the default time (DCU-60), GFlash 2.06Beta, W800i R1BC002 MAIN file (Apac or EMEA), W800i R1BC002 FS file (Apac or EMEA), the PC or notebook with Windows XP OS, courage, accuracy, and patience.
The steps: Install the USB FLASH Driver if you have not already been installed on the computer. Make sure the battery is fully charged or at least above 80% Check to ensure cid HP HP diversiform CID36 RED. Execute Disable program GFlash Click on the button labeled Read cid / Cable put the USB cable to the USB port the PC or notebook Press and hold C button on the Hand Phone, and put on to the USB cable Do not release the C key until the left side of the layer in GFlash legible cid HP Color Phone with it. If your phone is not CID36 RED, then do not continue to the next step.

Because crossflash will not be successful. Remove the USB cable from the phone, remove battery, then re-install (do not start-up) Click the tab labeled flashing at the top of the screen GFlash. Note that the box with Firmware Files. Browse W800i R1BC002 MAIN file that is downloaded with the key ... the first. Then browse to the file W800i R1BC002 FS that is downloaded with the key ... to the two.
Note the box labeled Job description. Make sure to be given three options for the check. Now look at the box titled Customization. In the model selection, click and select the W800i. Then for the CDA, depending on the firmware version you use. If the EMEA, select the EMEA1. If using a version of Apac, select the Chinese. Click the button Flash. Press and hold button C, then to put on HP USB cable (as in step No. 3 above) The process will begin flashing.
Flashing process will take several minutes (depending on specification of PC or notebook). During the flashing process takes place, it is recommended not to run the applications / programs, HP does not touch, and do not press any button on the GFlash.
Wait until GFlash display Mainflashing, Filesystem flashing, and Finalization Execution completed successfully with its time. Remove the USB cable from the phone, remove battery, and attach it again. Press and hold power button for several seconds until the display lights and display the Sony Ericsson logo. Congratulations! You do crossflashing recently K750i with W800i firmware which among the modder called the SE W750i.
