Esta escena captada por el fotógrafo <span style="font-weight: bold;">Alistair Chapman</span> en Tromnso, <span style="font-weight: bold;">Noruega</span>, 300 kilómetros al norte del círculo polar ártico, tiene la particularidad de <span style="font-weight: bold;">mostrarnos el fenómeno en tiempo real.</span> Aunque yo también tenía dudas sobre si es un fake, veo que el astrónomo <span style="font-weight: bold;">Phil Plait</span> lo da por bueno, así que habrá que fiarse. Un equipo de investigadores estadounidenses ha cruzado por primera vez los datos a largo plazo de variación climática, espesor de hielo y tasa de mortalidad de las crías de esta especie y los resultados son evidentes: los periodos de mayor deshielo coinciden con la muerte de un número mayor de crías.<br /><br />"Algunos años, cuando el hielo es escaso, la mayoría de las crías simplemente no sobrevive", apunta el biólogo de la universidad de Duke <span style="font-weight: bold;">David Johnston,</span> que conduce la investigación. En 2007, por ejemplo, más del 75% de las crías de foca de Canadá murieron por las pobres condiciones del hielo. Además, ya tenemos en marcha otras cuatro o cinco ideas interesantes que verán la luz en los próximos meses. En <span style="font-weight: bold;">Fogonazos,</span> he sacado tiempo para recuperar el ritmo de actualización y volver a algunas viejas obsesiones, como los abandonos, las historias polares y nucleares, los lugares insólitos y algún que otro experimento.
