Thursday night found us ladies strutting and styling around Mynt Lounge for the Runway fashion show. Panicked, Perfected and Proportioned all at the same time the ladies did a fantastic job of styling it down the runway the way I liked!

Makeup was dazzeled and inspired by famous dolls of past and present with up do's to create a fresh young look which was widely accepted.

Showing a few pieces from the Carnival range and few new add in specialities the show ended in fine style and a disco to follow soon after.

A big thankyou to Bianca Morsello, Molly Sweeting and Renae Bernado for being effortlessly gorgeous and primed in time. And also a thankyou to Jade Coulter - for keeping my head sane and pulling me into gear back stage!

Who hasn't wanted to be prom queen... in your tulle delight and princess tiara, isnt it every little girls dream right? It seems to draw from a fairy tale innocence that has been built over my decades of social myths.

Innocence is a funny word, it can be interpreted in many ways and many likes. It can come in the form of your actions, personality and definatley the way in which you dress to impress.

Some of us prefer to tap into our inner innocence by portraying hues of behaviour, styled by elegant fits and coloured in taste. Others, on the other hand prefer to break styles, forget the rules and lose respect for themselves. Just because you have grown up, doesn't mean you have to stuff up.

Personally, I prefer pretty 1950's styled frocks...they tend to leave you in a state of wishing you were in the age of innocence. Perfect in elegance with a tapered waist, full bust and skirt will do bring out the lady in you. Lovely for Spring and Eclectic enough to cause a stir these antique darlings always play fair.

Dress nicely and play nicely...

When Lightning Strikes...

There is nothing worse than rain drops and thunder in times of disco desire... It squashes your hair's ego and your bronzer turns into messy trickles of gold. It's a complete mojo killer after you have spent the time to do disco-glam.

However, when severe flashes of lightening zigzagger across darkened midnight skies, the adrenaline does start to build. As a lover of fashion and anything that stylishly flys through, that very same kind of adrenaline flows through me when showstopper makes its mark.

A few little specials that have got my adrenaline going as of recent involve large shoulders (and a tiny waist), anything Balmain or Chanel, bodycon dressing, anything BeDazzelled (studs, rhinestones, bling what have you) and a little bit of lightning...

Completely loving Miss Taylor Momsen in her very swish Versace at the Whitney Museum Launch - Versace in fact does win hands down each time, and so does this little uber blonde when it comes to the style stakes...

I'm not sure whether its her fabulous long blonde locks working in unison with killer makeup application that captivate me or her fantastic right on point of style each time... playing the fashion-driven Jenny Humphrey on GG sure has her styling life in character.

Loving her Momsen-Manoever on this elegant Versace gown styled with the fishnets, how so elegant and euro-trashed at the same time - which sums Versace right up. Oh, and also loving her Barbie doll pink mini with matching lipstick - barbied out, but we all love it.

Thoroughly enjoying Jumpsuits at the moment, or whatever you may refer to them as.... (Playsuits, Onesies, Rompers, HappySuits... etc)

There is something undoubtably disco about any ensemble whether it be from now or from a special time ago, some either Love them, Hate them or are just plain scared of them.

Forever Classic in Black seems to always make a statement, teamed with a plunging neckline and a bare back do indeed take my frivilous fancy. The current issue of Vogue perfects Catherine McNeil across the cover in a Louis Vuitton statement piece, ever so now and ever so back then in fruitful fuschia. All this current emphasis has reminded me of a similar black version I picked up in a vintage store a few years back, I think it's time I resurrected it from the depths of my wardrobe!

The best place to look for vintage playsuits is in fact online, I have pursed a few dazzelers via the internet and have been pleased with the results! There are also a few of the major chainstores running them, but chances are you may run into another fashionista wearing your fantastic find!

Whether you prefer short leg, long leg, strapless, halter, patterned or plain there is a jumpsuit for all..

Don't be scared of them... they are really harmless and alot of fun...

We all come from different places and all want different things, so when it comes down to it…what energises you to get your motivation moving?

Knowing that the weekend weather is looking sunny and surreal, wanting to get that fantastic promotion or maybe… for you fashion lovers, a run down on the new seasons trends and looks that will revive any lost soul!

Apparently denim is getting skinnier and shinier (get your shoe horn out, because you may need it to squeeze into these babies), everything is over be-dazzled (Who hasn’t wanted to dress like they did on Dynasty) and print (PUCCI!) is creating a perfect puzzle as to what to style it with.

For some, these looks energise and electrify us into realms of style havens, where we dream about where we will parade these imaginary looks right into life.

Living Life Through Lavender Tinted Shades...

Sneaking back to American Rag earlier in the week I discovered these fabulous original 70’s NOS (New Old Stock – as my father likes to refer to vintage car parts as) Lavender sunglasses. Only did I pick them up for a giggle and laugh, they actually did take my fancy. Very Nicole Richie does 70’s pastille and from Italy themselves!

The best thing about my little (large actually) Italian specs, is that when you put them on, your whole world turns Lavender. The horizon becomes nothing but lavender skies, my cream car laughs in Lavender and my hair looks like I have one of the Magical Silver Purple Rose tints in it. If living a life of Lavender is this good, then what is stopping me from going forward, as nothing now will hold me back.

My Lovely Lavenders let me see no evil, hear no evil or be no evil. Forever farewell to the bad, and hello to the new. The carousel has now started, spinning around in all its magical glory…I’m on board and I truly hope you will join me.

And I will live my life through lavender tinted shades and be only the things I want to be.

Like most ladies, I have a servere addition for high heels, the higher the more exciting and the more costly… the bigger the head rush. Christian Louboutin, an icon in his own right, and in my terms ‘the king of high heels’ seems to tip the top of stiletto mountain. A destiny set in stone, influenced by the things he loved and adored around him, he was surely destined to be something spectacular. Ladies from around the globe know that this name is synonymous with style, success, confidence and not to mention a red sole.

Louboutin styles that always flash in my mind, the ever classic black patent ‘decolette’, or the disco-like ‘Bling Bling’ peep toe pumps and I can’t forget, the striking yet defiant Leopard Pigalle. Anything that propels you approximately 5 inches into the super model stratosphere takes my fancy any time.

These heeled statues inspire me from one reason to the next, from the next outfit, the excitement of possibly owning a pair and how long I will have to starve for so I can add another to my collection!

As we waltz throughout our life (high-heeled or not) we all wonder what has influenced us to take the paths in which we action today, and will proceed with tomorrow. Family, friends, enemies, mentors, celebrities, teachers, heroes, icon’s all seem to contribute to the person that we want to grow up into, want to be remembered by, whether it be for better or for worse. Do some people just seem to have a lucky start in life, while others seem to struggle with things that come so easy to some? Do you want to be the best you can be, or will you sit back and just accept what you have and where you are, and simply just not try anymore. How are you motivated to get what you want out of life, if on the wrong path, can you change to make a stronger destiny for yourself or will you just let fate be your mate.

They say time can change people, that time apparently heals deep wounds and that time makes you grow up, whether you want to or not. Time also gives you the chance to develop within yourself, to find the person you are and realise what you need and what you don’t need. We do however, need people who will support us, look after us and inspire us on our journeys throughout life.

And as for me, I’ll be behaving myself so I can have these fabulous leopard print darlings, and as they say sadly ‘Leopards never change their spots’, but I’ll leave that up to you to decipher.

Friday Night Wants...

Strutting around Southgate on a Friday night makes you open your eyes to things you should need not see, but want… for us… the one and only American Rag – home to very vintage apparel.

If you prefer to prom-queen it for the 50’s, swing through the 60’s, disco around the 70’s and trash-pash-it through the 80’s then this in your place of purchase. With divine vintage pieces salvaged from thrift shops around NYC it’s definitely worth the splurge. (yes, this is your chance to get a bit of Carrie Bradshaw vintage a little more closer to home!)

The great thing about vintage is, when you love something you just really have to have it – reasons being:

· because it’s something completely different and close to a one off
· or, you know this is your one and only chance to have it… (couldn’t have someone else running of with your new found collectable)
· or for some, to feel a part of a world from a long time and place ago.

97% of all vintage garments in proper vintage shops are classic, and that is the most clever thing about them – they don’t date, they continuously please crowds, and you don’t ever seem to want to part with them. They are almost like a collectable, for those of you who adore fashion.

And with that, I’ll leave you with Carmela… who is in completion admiration for this fabulous tangerine toca 60’s shift…

Perfect Proenza...

Thanking Proenza Schouler for their fantastic collection shown at NY Spring Fashion Week. Playing down the cool end of the spectrum with shades of livid Lime, creepy cobalt, along with ecstatic animal prints all paved the way for this standout collection. Something about it reminds me of the ‘end of transmission’ signal when Saturday morning Rage finished – for those of you who are ripe enough to remember.

Feeling the fringing teamed with the uber short hemlines – tells me that uber bold is in for the long run. Marvellous Metallics in shades of onyx, emerald and sapphire… loving the black cat tights teamed with these eccentric electric ensembles inspires me from deep within.

So… I’ll leave you to take in the electicity…

Stilletto Stalking

August, September brings all of the new goodies into the stores for the spring…stilettos in particular. We go in to these houses of heels hoping to find the perfect heeled delight for the season to come. This brings me to the subject of stiletto stalking – where one hunts out, finds, justifies and pursues the stiletto.

Too much colour for the heel has taken my fancy this spring – anything in a pop-tastic shade of rainbow from perfect pink to shock blue has had me in total despair. Toodling around last weekend I discovered these barbie-like neon pink wonders… I’m liking the arch, the wearable height, and of course… the sunglasses required hue. Tip – if you lose me next time you’re out, turn the lights out and look for these glowing girls!

Next on my list – another pair of Emilio Pucci’s for the collection (I will tell you all about my love for the master of colour and print in time soon to come). There is no actual need for this purchase, just a high in fluctuated desire, it’s been over a year since the last Pucci-Purchase and must satisfy my needs. With my severe want for colour this season and stand out shoes, why not pursue Pucci?

Apparently stilettos were invented by a man, and crazed feminists call them sexist – I call them pure genius, when you are 5ft 3” (or maybe 4” – never be honest about your height), a stiletto pops you right up in there, into the super-model stratosphere.

In our realms of high expectations, conspicuous consumption and deemed attention we all want the very best - no matter what it takes for some. Whether the very best be in education, a career, social peers, a partner, who we wear or what we heel it around in. Some tend to be extreme extroverts and thrive off material possessions, while others tend to want to succeed with intangible interests.

We all have own measures as to what is acceptable and how far we will drive ourselves to reach for the stars. In a world of fashion sometimes the very best comes at a high price - whether that be financially or in other terms. It's not always about who you wear, but how you wear it...

‘Everything in here just makes me happy,’ Jade squeals as she delightfully pulls off the rack a cream filigree bodice come 50’s style black tulle dress . The Alannah Hill boutique is filled with perfect spring reasons to want absolutely everything in there. From satin-flower-pop head pieces, or her beautifully-bowed belts or graceful girlie gloves, we all seem to want to play dress ups in her magical empire. This empire seems to be the perfect grounding for inspiration come Melbourne’s Spring Racing season, which is not too far away.

Down at the Fame Agenda Boutique I fell in love with this gorgeous Camilla and Marc ballerina belle. Three fine layers of dove-grey tulle, a bodice which portrays classic beauty teamed with a perfect hemline inspires me for this spring. The beautiful cut of the dress, the fine tulle and magical vibes of this ballerina piece make me happy and want to have it. But back to reality, I don’t really need it, shouldn’t drop the dollars and I have something very similar in another shade at home. Disappointment strikes as I place this belle back on the rack, but I know it’s for the best.

What makes you happy and makes you smile? Are their certain vices in your life that can take you away for a split second from reality. Whether your vice may be in fact destructive to yourself or to your pretty purse and ultimately even to your self-esteem, are you strong enough to say no when it’s time. When you sit back and think about it, do these things or people (in some cases) really make you happy.. or are they just a mask to cover something else you’re trying to get away from.

I guess when all else fails purchase what you like… if it makes you happy, makes you look fantastic and sends you on a fashionable high, then why not take the ride…

Apparently the weather down here in Melbourne is meant to start warming up ... however I'm not feeling it and I'm still parading around in leather, leggings and latex. I find the weather man tends to leave us disapointed, raising our hopes and letting us down - it is mid September and I am expecting some sun shine soon!

So while my spring wardrobe waits patiently to make its way, I have been reverting back to some of my warmer winter wonders. Out come the black cats, jolly jackets and slithering scarves...

As our overseas friends journey into their Autumn Winter Season, some of our current trends I believe will remain strong for our next A/W2010. Having a sneak peak through H&M's Autumn 09 magazine their fashion story Back in Black speaks 1980's powerhouse style. Studded cuff bangles, weighty lacey leggings, those "balmain" shoulders (we all want) spliced with seqúins de noir continue to make their way into our wants or already stashed. This tells me that my Siren sky-high gladiators will have another few seasons of their worth - excellent! (my poor arches are already cringing at the thought...)

So hold tight and keep your winter wardrobe right ... moody Melbourne weather, it can confuse the best of us!

My Loves of MSFW

For devoted lovers of fashion, MSFW tends to leave you exhausted in the follow up afterwards and in a serious state of 'i want, i need' for many weeks to come... until something else new is thrust into the limelight...naturally.

Highlights for me - the Designer Series shows with the likes of Australia's most well known designers. In particular, Gorman (as I am not usually a fan), had me surprised with some serious silhouettes and devotion to color. This funny little ruffle ensemble, with a contrasting a lollipop stripe, aqua, leopard come black array of tiered silk has made its way onto my want list. Simply too good with a pair of superstar latex leggings or washed back denim skinnie-minnies - pop with a pair of killer heels and you are ready to go darling!

Akira - perfect as always stunned us all with his amazing couture creations. Everything always so soft, textured and dreamlike makes us all a part of his surreal designs. Apart from his whimsical bridal pieces (if you like), delicate shots of colour in vermilion and lemon brought this SS09 dream to life.

Aurelio Costarella whose name seems to be aligned with elegance spun the wheel of colour also with vermilion (note: watch this colour and add a piece to your wardrobe for this season, especially you brunettes!), and some serious shades of blues in different hues. We were able to experience fine couture like style with firm fitting bodices showing deep filigree embroidery amid wispy petals and ties of a deeper shades.

Feathers come Wedges...

Sunday Morning had me running around the Melbourne Exhibition Centre in a divine daze for none other than the Fashion-Exposed Trade fair. So many new items, so much colour, new designs and different techniques that had my mind manically trying to metabolise it all.

Vee Love, a Sydney based design house had me entranced right from the moment I stepped into the stall. Flirty, fabulous, fantastic, party-tarty, mini dresses ready to make anyone rock it stepping out onto the dance floor. Lots of Black, and Lots of colour - take your pick prom princesses, you can have anything you like. My favorite, these tiny tight feathered creations, in violet and canary – oh where can I wear you and make a scene (I'm way past prom...)! I’m thinking NYE ladies, always an excuse to go OTT.

Waltzing down to the Shoe Fair and accessories collections I noticed these fine divine wedges-come-heels. The standout justification for me, a stained-glass-rainbow effect teamed with a bit of a Louis Vuitton styled heel. These fabulous fabric tie ensembles had me harassing the stall owner for stockists in Melbourne. These heels teamed in perfect delight with a pair of denim mini shorts and a flirty top for balmy Summer nights along the St Kilda boardwalk. The label, Ameise-me apparently do have a few stockists in Melbourne, which I will be calling first thing this week to secure a pink set in a size 7 thankyou!

Just a few other more items I am thinking of adding to the wardrobe...

Spring Flings...

Spring is the beginning of new things, new conquests and new loves, goodbye Winter hues, boots and gloves…. But only for another season, we will see you soon when the first leaves drop come fall.

Flowers begin to blossom, the mornings come brighter and sun does shine much whiter. We begin to remember the florals from last season, parties and events all of which are for a definite reason.

Down to Flemington the hoards make their way, for a lucky start in fashion or the stakes come derby day. And then there comes those Spring Flings, held together on wispy romantic whims – will you be lucky in love this spring?

Mani’s, Pedi’s, Waxing, special spa retreat delights, check your legs ladies, because no Spring outfit is acceptable in tights.

And on comes the carousel of colour whether it be iridescent lollipop shades or soft delicate pastels which subtly cause a stir. Stay true to your colours, believe in your style and stay true to yourself.

Promise me you will make it your September to remember.

Blair and Serena - beginning Spring Flings in a floralescent style

This Saturday night brought me to the ACMI with a fine friend in Valeria, to see none other than Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton on film. An artistically composed collaboration of all things Marc and all things Vuitton (that Marc does so well) had me sitting on the edge of my seat.

We were lucky enough to be allowed into the magical world of Marc Jacobs behind the scenes, from his New York workshops with devoted staff, his backstage fashion shows with flawless models and his personal moments where his design ideas seem to engage him and everyone else around. We learned that Marc lives off protein shakes and bars, pins, finger nails and cigarettes teamed with very late nights and early starts to get him where he is today. His ideas and inspiration seem like an endless stream of enviable creativity, which metamorphose into styles and designs that the world of fashion follows lovingly every season.

Continuously living life in the fast lane, Jacobs jets off to Paris back and forth, to none other than the offices of Louis Vuitton. Here we were allowed into the surreal realm of what goes on during the creative process at this famous French fashion house. From distressing fabric flowers for headbands under an industrial iron, or perfecting a slashed hole in a t-shirt, everything is done with immense style and care, only the best for the very best.

Staying true to the Vuitton monogram Marc incorporates the logo each season into different mediums for the world-famous bags, whether it be denim, vinyl, appliqué , or teaming up with an inspirational artist for further design dramatics. The epitome of Marc’s bag design – the contrasting patchwork LV Tribute bag, a cool £35,000 for those of you who can afford to splurge. A collaboration of fifteen famous LV bags including the denim, the red vernis and the classic brown monogram and others, all held together with gold hardware and finished perfectly with a large gold chain to fashionably hang from your forearm. Jacobs decided himself that this would ‘look best with bare long sexy legs.’

Contrasting the lives of these two great fashion houses between the one man from New York to Paris was indeed an inspirational viewing for those who adore fashion. I highly recommend you go and see this film if you are lover of all things that inspire great design.

Versace Atelier Couture, Spring/Summer 2002. For me, it was my first year studying fashion, I needed inspiration, guidance and something to fall in love with.

This collection described by Donatella herself, as 'a circus of color and crystal' will forever remain in my deep fashion-memoirs. The range of severe contrasting colors teamed with sparkling sentiments scattered over goddess-gowns still strikes a pose for me, seven years worth of fashion later.

My favorite was always the hot pink mini-dress, defiant square neckline teamed with bold lines of livid-lime, horizon blue and black, clearly making a standout statement on its own. Don't worry about a jacket, don't even worry about the shoes, this dress will do all the talking. To me this style is a classic, because I don't think there would have been one moment where I would not have wanted to prance about in it... just because it isn't black doesn't mean it isn't a classic. I would have sold my soul to have this dress back back in 2002 and highly still likely now.

Next on my list, the dazzling tiny romper in its sequined solace, rainbow palette and swinging tassels. Some you may think ridiculous, but what a work of art - it deserves to be on display in a fashion realm or gallery of some sort. It reminds me of marching girls or ballet dancers, but in Versace Couture. Where would you wear this one in all it's glory?

Following this, a star-spangled statue of tulle, chiffon and silk takes the next place (although there is about 20 other pieces in this collection I could continue to go on about). It reminds me of stars in the sky on a clear night casting a perfect shine to captivate an intimate audience. While most would need to be a size 6 and 185cm tall to wear something like this, we can still dream can't we ...

In need of: Smash ‘em Fashion

As of current times, preferring shock hues more than anything else on this planet has encouraged some serious ‘wardrobe hunting’ in the last few weeks. (Definition: to find golden oldies within your current selection you may have forgotten about).

On my travels throughout a spring clean I discovered this fabulous vintage Geoff Bade jumpsuit for only those who really dare. This disco-ensemble has been sitting in thy wardrobe for about 3 years now, waiting patiently for its time to shine.

Plunging neckline, (hollywood tape PLEASE!), a perfect tapered pant, enough batwing to declare lust and that little sash with the gold sequin motif. How 70’s of this little glamour piece – which only requires a bold-minded pair of stilettos and some disco-dazzle earings.

black and white...

Today is Sunday, the morning after, and I talk to you today about black and white. No grey tones murking inbetween, just simply one way or the other. Left or Right? Up or Down?

Melbourne’s Inner City club’s soirees dressed in those monochromatic hues, and few splashed in colour pre-spring , and others lathered n black with those who dare and prepare in white. According to fashion folklore Black is more sinister, sexy and grown up, while white tends to portray an image of innocence, purity and naivety.

Do you act accordingly inline to the way in which you dress? Does a tight little black dress mean you will party tarty - does a gorgeous white shift mean lady of the day? What choices do you make when it comes to dressing for a certain behavioural role…do your past experiences influence how you present yourself in this world today?

Do you let other individuals influence your fashion choices as to follow the crowd with trends, you don’t have the confidence, or tone it down because a significant other won’t let you shine?

We all have the right to make our own choice, in fashion, in life, in love…

Can you take the high road and not look black?

Or will you gamble and believe the white lies, you tell me if it’s worth it and I may consider.

The Swimsuit

Yesterday I must have definitely been feeling the vibe with my rant on watermelon... still keen to embark on my 'watermelon kaftan with gold accessories mission' I noticed a bit more of this snappy colour on the television this morning…

…none other than Miss Jennifer Hawkins parading down the SS 09 Myer runway with this fabulous ensemble – apparently a swim suit, it’s frou-frou ruffles and its studded Swarovski extravagance had me at hello.

After some light research this morning, it was revealed that Miss Hawkins herself had a small wardrobe malfunction in the swimsuit, giving some a bit more than they expected to see at a fashion show – I don’t care about all that media hype, I just want that amazing swimsuit.

And then after further reading, I discovered it was a one off created for the show for her Cozi swimwear parade finale. So I highly doubt I will be getting my hands on that one. (There go my dreams of teaming the top with a high waisted black skirt and killer heels…)
