My twins are very different - one is girlish and likes romantic, ruffles and pastels, the other is definitely into styles, but loves rough, grown up styles. She's the one wearing my heals inside the house every day!

I wanted to make outfits that represented them - and they are both so happy with how they turned out - my inspiration being the denim -

It's been a busy, busy week - gymnastics, movie theater, dinner at a friends house, sick girl, running out of gas, birthday party, broken car... Yes somethings wrong with my car. On the way to work yesterday I stopped at a store and then it wouldn't start again... I'm blessed with good friends and someone I know remotely drove me to work and then some friends came to pick me up and have a look at the car. Will be trying to locate the spare parts today, and my friend's husband has promised to put it in - blessed!

I'm getting really ready to decorate my house a bit different - when I moved in here, I just painted my living room - need to do something here, but the kitchen, oh, the kitchen. It really needs to get done. I'm so ready!!! Just need to get some paint. Birthday presents

The girls had a birthday party to attend to tonight - last Saturday when I told then we had to go gift shopping, AND I told them it didn't mean they were getting anything from the store... they both told me they wanted me to make something. I think it only was because they couldn't get anything at the toy store... Sneaky little ones.

From Arielle I made this Matroyshka pillow - the girls painted the face... nuff said about that..

Instead of the toy store, we went to the fabric store to pick out some fabric for a skirt for the birthday girl.... ~~and the girls~~. They chose this fabric - very cute. The birthday girl is not very girlish, she's rather tomboyish, so I decided to make a skirt with a little attitude. Mind you, she is a little bigger than my model here.

The skirt is a square, with a hole in the middle - Arielle was so excited when it was finished, telling me she's been wanting one like that for ages...

Well, we've had quite the experience here today, with the car running out of gas on the way to work and the au pair getting off of a bus stop too early. Now I'll only finish a piece for my Project Run and Play audition...

Class Teddy - Rols

Last weekend we had the class teddy - Rols visiting. Last time, when Ariana had him for the weekend, I made him some clothes. Other parents have followed, and he has quite some things now. I really wanted to make him a trailer last time, to travel back and forth to the school in - but I didn't find the time then. This time, I made him a bag, painted it with fabric markers and voila, Rold now has a trailer.

Inside the bag, there are three pockets to carry his stuff. Oh, that's right, I also made him a sleeping bag last time - the girls helped me out with the sleeping bag and they helped me painting this time. When we have Rols visiting, there's a book in which we have to write what he did through out the weekend - I love making up the stories - so this time he had a big teddy bear party, he was a model and an actor - you see, I was teaching Sunday School this Sunday, about Eph 6 and putting on the full armor - and Rols was my knight!

Now Rols is back at school, but he'll travel with some nice wheels next time he's going home to someone's house.

I found out two wonderful things today - my school paper isn't due for another three days, I thought it was tonight... and there is a job opening as a principal at an elementary school where I live - please keep all your fingers and toes crossed, I really would like this job.. I think.

Still having some issues with my memory card and computer, this is therefor taken with my phone

I've been wanting to sew "older" clothes for my girls for a while. And then I saw something like this online and I so wanted to make one. I've made adjustments. I've added some colors and on the right pocket I've sewn a word - JOY, in Norwegian - glede. I love to include words, positive words to my garments. I try to pray and think of a word that fits the person wearing the outfit. And sewing this today, I felt JOY was the word.

I also think it fits an older child- the silhouette is slimmer, the colors and pattern in the fabric fits and the legs are straight. If I had made this for a younger child, I would have put elastic at the bottom of the legs to make the pants more poofy.

i do have a tutorial for this... but I have to work out my memory card issues.

This week has been a good one, we've gotten some skiing done, some spending time together, had some guests over, a really lazy day at work, so I'm not super tired today - a good start for the weekend!

I know - I'm not the most reliable blogger, my posts come out very irregularly. But please consider this: I'm a single mother who works full time, studies 50 % at university and runs three blogs... (have I given you enough excuses for you to forgive me?)

We have tv-shows for children every advent, 24 days before Christmas. The shows alternate, and there are two shows in particular that my girls love - they are both about these little NISSE - Norwegian santas, they are small and live in our barns. One show is about red-nisse and the other about blue-nisse.

To make a long story a little shorter, the girls wanted me to make the red-nisse hats - long hats. In which I obliged. I love that they ask me for things to make.

I'm really sorry about the quality of the pictures, they're taken with my phone. My computer was re something over Christmas and I can't seem to get the pictures loaded from my card to the computer and it messes up the memory card.

I'm making Valentine dresses for the girls - I've embroidered this text, it says: I love you because you are you and you are mine!

The dresses will be in white fleece with a big red heart on the chest, stomach area.

Will start cutting the fabric today. I don't like dressing the girls completely the same, so I have to make two different dresses with the same fabrics. Hope they will be up this weekend.

Friday afternoons are usually really calm in our house, we're all just settling into the weekend, chilling and enjoying ourselves, which means I have some time to sit down by the computer and actually getting a post up.

This week has been kind of crazy, but not bad. I got a new substitute co-worker which means more work falls on me. I really like her - our faith is really important to both of us so we share a lot of the same interests. i still miss the one she's substituting for, though.

Then we had two deaths at the school next door, one old teacher, just died suddenly and a student - which is so tragic because he drove himself to death. Some of my friends have been really affected by this, and I feel so bad for them, wishing I could do more for them, something to relieve the pain.

This weekend I plan to get at least an hour worth of work done on my kitchen, I want to start my daughters' valentine dresses and I'm teaching Sunday school Sunday. The girls might sleep over at my parents' house tomorrow (may I hear some cheering for that one?) and then the weekend is pretty much over - need to get some rest in as well, right?

Cowgirl party

Yesterday my girls celebrated their 7th birthday with all the girls in their class - 13 girls total. Their actual birthday is today. We had a cowgirl themed party - with pancakes, hamburgers and meat sticks...

I was away studying the first part of the week - and I hadn't finished their dresses, I took the sewing machine with me to the hotel... a little dedicated! This is how much I finished while away - a vest, two bandannas and half the dress.

I decorated the table in red and white - polka dots and squares.

Wrote names on the cups - for later use, I love the little glass decoration animals I foun - though not very cowgirlish...

After food and sharing of presents we went outside to the backyard - (temperatures at freezing point, but sunny) - for shooting..

I am such a blessed mother of these two beautiful girls - Arielle and Ariana - you make my day brighter, you make me laugh and you make my heart overflow with love! I thank God for you two every day - Happy birthday my beautiful, kind, funny, compassionate, smart - LOVING girls - 7 years old today!

It's all about the party

The big 7 is in a week - the girls are having their birthday party for their friends next Friday.. less than a week... and I still have to make their dresses. They both want denim dresses, but I don't want them to look the same - so this is what I'll make - and hopefully post tutorials from...

One twin wants a dress like the one above, but sleeves to her elbows.

The other dress I want to make as a mix between the two above - with the top of the first and the skirt of the second. And I don't have much time- leaving Monday for school, until Wednesday evening, then Thursday I'll have to get the cakes ready - one horse cake and one with a man throwing a lasso - their orders....

I been thinking about kids growing up with creative mothers, they're so used to their moms being able to make just about anything, at least my girls do, they kind of just make an order and expect me to deliver - it's not that they're demanding it, not at all, but they just know that it can be done... I guess I should be very pleased they appreciate what I make them.

Now, on to cutting denim dresses!

Update: I totally forgot - and I'm doing faux fur vests to complete the outfits!

Update 2: rereading the text, I realize I make it sound like I don't enjoy making things for them - I do, I love it!!!

Busy bee preparing cowgirl party

My girls are turning 7 next week and we're having a cowgirl party for them - I just finished the invitations. I googled cowby poster wanted, copied it, added the photo and uploaded it to picnik to add the extra text! Easy peasy - just took some figuring out first.

What's left to do - before I go away for studies on Monday-Wednesday... is making the dresses, denim cowgirl dresses, the hobo candy holders, the bandanas, buying sheriff stars, making a pond for gold digging.

My cousin is coming with a horse - WE WILL HAVE SO MUCH FUN!!!

Bigger girls clothes

I'm sitting here by the computer, trying to find some inspiration for bigger girls clothes. My girls are turning 7 in two weeks, they are in school, and I feel the need to upgrade their wardrobe a little. I find it really hard to find bigger girls' clothes online.

And what really are the differences between toddlers and kids?

I think waistline is one difference - bigger girls often have a lower waistline on their dresses than toddlers. Ruffles is another difference. And the prints - bolder and tougher prints on the bigger kids' clothes.

In the near future you'll see a lot of tutorials for bigger girls' clothes here. I want to dress my girls appropriately for their age, but not like mini grown-ups - like so many of the pre-teen clothes are.

June-Bug dress remix

wowety wow - I'm so excited, the Project Run-and Play new season got kicked off today, and this time around viewers can join in on the fun. This week's theme is a remix of the June Bug dress, from Craftiness is not Optional!!!

Here is my version:

I made it into a navy look - it's long enough to be a dress, and short enough to be a tunic with jeggings - perfect for a stylish school girl.

Here is the original:

I used silver ribbon - just a little more cool for my almost 7-year old.

I sewed the flap of the dress behind the front pieces instead of in front of them - made my sleeves longer and added a ruffle. I also made the bodice a little longer than the June-Bug dress.

Doen't she just look so cute?

And the slanted hat just makes the outfit a little more umph!

It's that time of the year again, when we look back at what has been and look forward and try to make ourselves some promises to make the future look brighter, tidier, more financial, healthier or whatever.

I've written this blog almost a year, my first post being February 3rd. I had hopes it would be a hit... not so much, I've seen blogs grow a lot faster than mine, but I have to be myself and write about things that matter to me and I have to make things I like. I'm going to continue making things I like, writing about things that matter to me, and those of you that find my blog interesting, I love seeing you here!

This fall has been a busy one, with both the 31 days of change and the 30 days of tutorials. I had so much fun, challenging myself into writing every day - that's what I wish I would be able to do all the time. But between being a full-time working, half-time studying single mother - there just isn't enough hours in the day to be able to create something new to post about every one and single day.

I do really well under pressure, though, and I will continue to challenge myself. Right now I'm planning my contribution to the Project Run and play challenge for this week - being really happy with what I've come up with! We've had a really nice Christmas this year. My brother has been visiting with his wife and two daughters. My girls looooove to play with their cousin. And I love listening to their talking and playing. My girls have a strong faith in Christ - my brother's family is not believers. My girls cannot fathom how someone just doesn't believe - their telling their cousin how she can just look at herself as proof of God existing... and maybe you'll believe when you grow up. This conversation is truly one of my favorite things happening this year, my girls showing how strong their faith is. It's my BIGGEST fear as a parent that they will grow up not believing - and so far, so good! I am so blessed!

I think most of my friends have received their cards now - and I can show you guys our 2011 Christmas card - MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU - YOU MATTER, weather you're here for the first time or you visit regularily. Thank you so much for the visits and the comments you've left behind. You make me so happy. And I wish you all the best!

My 11-year old neighbor came to me with this drawing - TOne, will you please sew this dress for me? How is a girl able to say no do a question like that? Though I had some issues with the design - she's 11, like nothing to hold the dress up with... and really no waist...

But she is very happy with it - I did add shoulder straps, wouldn't want the girl to lose the dress at her Christmas party...

In Norway we're celebrating Christmas for almost a week - and then it's New Years - my brother is visitng with his wife and daughters, my girls just simply LOVE playing with their cousins, specially the oldest. We spend as much time as we can visiting them at my parents house, which mean I don't get a lot of time crafting and creating - which for me is holiday and recreation, but visiting with family is just so more important - the girls see their cousins once or twice a year. Today my entire family will meet at my parents house - all my aunts and uncles and cousins, and their kids again - we do this every Christmas - and I love it... Have a happy day!

6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and gymnastics show

Christmas is getting really busy around here - between not having a car, buying a new one, waiting to pick it up, getting Christmas presents ready, sewing for a gymnastics show.... and baking and, and, and - it is busy, but I love it!!!! Preparing to make a nice Christmas for the girls, making lasting memories for them.... spending time with them. I appreciate being able to do this, looking at my girls, hearing what their saying, watching their show - I love it!

The girls had a Christmas show with their gymnastics group today - they were supposed to be characters from The Lion King - I made them lion costumes. They also wore ears, ~~I don't have pictures of those yet.~~ - found my phone picture - last in the post

Going out for dinner with my parents after the show - the girls still had painted faces - I love living so close to my parents. My only brother lives far away, but it's so nice with family close by.

I've come to day 6 of the advent calendar - Tuesday I had cut out hearts for the girls - with a zig zag pair of scissors - they sewed around it themselves with the sewing machine, leaving a little hole to put the stuffing in - then sewed it back up.

Wednesday I wasn't home for more than half an hour - they spent time with the au pair.

Thursday they got to invite a friend home for their calendar gift.

Friday we were supposed to make Christmas presents - we did them today - painting on t-shirts. We used fabric markers.

For the tenth day, I gave them the latest Barbie Christmas movie - my niece is also getting that for Christmas. The Barbie movies are such a big hit in our house, coming home with that movie- makes me mommy-of-the-year. They're not very hard to please....

Today we've done a ton of things - they love being painted in the face - they looked so cute when they were first painted - then the show, then eating dinner at a restaurant, then doing the t-shirts. Then today on the calendar it said doing Christmas cards - we've done some of them - at least the ones that have to go in the mail. Tomorrow it will say go to the mail on their calendar, sending off presents for far-away family and poor children in the Philippines!!!

3, 4, and 5 - and gift ideas for the females in your life

Time goes by so fast during advent - I'm really loving this season. But my advent schedule has suffered due to my car breaking down. I wasn't able to get t-shirts to paint on Saturday - and because I hvae really nice parents whom lend me their car- I now have them and we can get this activity done.

But I had to change up Saturday, Sunday and Monday - I moved Monday's activity to Saturday - looking for old toys to give to the nieces and nephews of my au pair. My au pair really like to tidy - and she has tidied all the girls' toys - mixing all the toys, putting all the small pieces together, all the pet shops, my little pony, Barbies - into one big box, because after all their small pieces.... (can you hear the irony here?) So I started to tidy out the girls' toys Saturday, throwing away broken toys and we all found toys we could give away - we'll send them off on Monday.

Then on Sunday we didn't go to visit the old aunt. She's in the hospital now, and we'll have to wait and see what happens to her. Instead we had a making-cookies swap with three of my cousins. One of cousins has a daughter the same age as my girls. We all brought one sort of dough with us, made them together and divided the cookies - so we now have for different sorts of cookies. Here in Norway the old tradition says we have to have seven different sorts - only three to go!

Yesterday we called grandma in New York. The girls haven't seen her for four years, and they don't call her much because they don't really know her, but I know she is so happy when we call, and I thought this would be a nice way to think of someone else for their advent. And she was happy. She had just received our Christmas gift last week - a 2012 table calendar with lots of pictures of the girls.

Yesterday(!) we made Ginger bread cookies - the girls were so excited and they were just all bubbly and happy - it makes me so happy we have this type of calendar, spending quality time together.

I bought store ready ginger bread dough - so easy. All the other Christmas cookies are made from scratch, though!

Decorating the cookies, I also bought a store ready icing, and it was really hard to get out. But they do look cute, right?

Finally December 1st! The girls were so excited this morning opening their advent calendars - yes, plural. Today in our home made calendar they found out we were making snow flakes from perlers. We ended up doing them kind of late, and Angel almost threw a fit! But everything turned out so nice - and the once the girls made are so beautiful.

Our snow flakes are going up on the tree when we get the tree - December 23td.

This was the easiest shape to make the nice snow flakes - easy to make something in the middle and then go out to each corner.

My non-conformist had to have some red in there.

The name for Jesus today was: The Word - we had a nice talk about how everything He says becomes. How in John it says: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God.

I'm going to like this years advent - family time and family sharing - with the right focus.

I'll share my schedule with you again - I might change things up a bit, my car broke down and is now being taken to the chop chop - some of the things on the list requires a car....
