Lux Style Awards

Defined by superlatives, the awards ceremony of the 9th Lux Style Awards took place with the customary pomp and glamour in the Crystal Ball Room of the Karachi Marriott Hotel. Celebrities, socialites and the best in the field of music, movies, television and fashion were in audience to celebrate the colours and allure of performing arts in Pakistan.

Organised and managed by Catwalk Productions the proceedings began with the National Anthem. That was the only sober moment of a highly charged evening as the host, comedian Sami Shah started off by taking broad swipes at everything from the Fashion Week councils, to controversies, to leading personalities and even the Lux Style Awards itself!

This year's LSA was along the lines of the Golden Globes, a seated dinner format and devoid of performances, unlike the awards ceremonies of previous years. Twenty-four winners in four industry's were honoured for their excellence and then were felicitated by the creme de la creme. Three winners from the category of Film, 8 from the categories of Television, 4 winners from the category of Music and 9 high achievers from the category of Fashion were honoured for their achievements in their fields in 2009.

Dubai Fashion Week and big names of the fashion world are all set to unveil their latest collections 2011 at the end of this month. Dubai Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011 will take place from 24 to 28 October in the Asateer Marquee at Atlantis The Palm Hotel, Dubai. This year will see Manish Malhotra, Furne One and ‘Neon Edge”s Mona Fares at DFW S/S 2011. Now in its 8th season, DFW will welcome a total of 40 fashion designers set to delight attendees with their creations.

DFW is overseen by fashion and industry experts comprising of an advisory board. The fashion week enables local and regional fashion designers and fashion houses to present their collection to global and regional buyers, media, fashion professionals and the general public. Fashion designer Manish Malhotra was also the famous participant of Dubai Fashion Week 2009.

The Middle East is home to a burgeoning fashion scene and it is important that this obtains global recognition. Designers include: Sachin Gada, Niteesh Singh Chauhan who are both based in India, and Dubai based Susan Jacob, Nova Krishnan, Samah Ali and Nasrine Dechache while last year Mariam Al Mazro, Salma Khan, HSY with his Autumn/Winter 2009 Collection, Ekta Singh, Walid Atallah and many others were also the participating designers.

These six exciting new designers were selected from a shortlist of twelve and will each debut five runway designs at DFW SS11, in addition to an exhibition stand providing them with a platform to interact with business-driven associations.

While famous designers Hajra Hayat, Sobia Nazir, Satya Paul, HSY, Amber Feroz and Ekta Singh were also very famous participant of Dubai Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2009.

The competition was judged by the DFW Advisory Board of prominent personalities in the fields of apparel retail, fashion design, journalism and the corporate sector. Judges included: Aiisha Ramadan who was very famous designer of Dubai Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2010 with Barbie designs, Rohini Gehani, Samara Punjabi, Marc Robinson and Mariah.

The most expensive are considered the south silk ones that are woven with pure gold. In fact it is said that if one had to remove the gold threads and melt them then anything from a few grams to almost a kilo of gold can be produced. Zari, embroidery, organza, zardozi, sequins, cut work, mirror work, patchwork, pearl work, kundan, are all different kinds of work, which beautify the sari. Combination Skin Type

Those who have a combination skin type may have more problems as compared to other types of skin. In combination skin it's difficult to decide that what is more problematic, whether the oil in your skin or the dryness. So, to control both the problems at one time is like a challenge. Combination skin is made up of two types. The 'T' area, which includes forehead, nose, partly cheeks closer to the nose and chin are oily areas whereas other are either dry or normal. Your very first step should be deciding that what actually causes more skin problems to you, oil or dryness. If your skin is shining in the T-zone but looks tight and scaly around your eyes and cheeks, it means that you have to tackle dryness problem. On the other hand, if your cheek and eye areas feel slightly tight but your T-zone is covered with oil and blemishes your combination situation is oily.

Being the tricky and complicated skin type, it needs your extra effort to look after it. Individuals with the combination skin type always encounter two conflicts at one time. First to reduce oil from the oily areas while the other to replace moisture and kill the dryness. In short it requires a skin care for two absolutely different skins.

Here are some of the remedies for those who got combination skin type:
Try to develop the habit of cleansing on daily basis, probably with some good quality milky moisture or moisturizing lotion. Then cleans your face with a cotton wool soaked into the rose water. Clean the whole face through this procedure and take the dirt off and make the skin clean and fresh. Immediately after it, if you will again clean your face with the cotton wool and few drops of lemon or fruit vinegar on it. You can easily clean the T area to take off all the extra oils.

Other then this you can apply some homemade marks. Like
Put cucumber (peeled) into a blender and make a fine paste, add egg-white to the half of the paste for the oily area and one teaspoon yoghurt with a few drops of apricot oil to the rest of the half portion of paste, for the other part of the face.

Apply these masks once or twice in a week for 15/20 minutes. Never forget to moisturize after washing and it's important that you use moisturizers that are minimum greasy.

Whatever the skin type you have, always remember to take care of it using the right kind of products.
