Country locked iPhone?

If the iPhone is country locked, it simply means that the iPhone will not take SIM cards from other country's carrier. This country lock is usually done by the first carrier that had the phone from the beginning.

With the case with iPhones, the country lock is processed by the apple server with the carrier's request.

To unlock the country lock, it is a must to contact the carrier that had the phone, when country unlocking is commenced, any data (photos, songs, contacts) won't be lost, since country lock is not done physically.

Unfortunately, there are cases were carriers do not allow unlocking country lock (eg. Softbank, KDDI AU from Japan).

How to identify a country locked iPhone

Insert a SIM and see if you get a signal and the carrier's name on the top left hand corner.

If you have signal and have the correct carrier's name, your phone isn't country locked.

Battery: It supplies power to the cell phone. In most phones the battery is easily removable after removing the back cover. In others, you will need to dismantle the entire handset to remove it. The output voltage of a cell phone battery is either 3.7V DC or 3.8V DC.
Mic: It is also called microphone and mouth piece. It converts voice into electrical signal. Its function is to send our voice to the called person. It will always be at the buttom inside a cell phone.
Speaker: It is also called earpiece and receiver. It converts electrical signal into sound signal. Its function is exactly opposite of mic i.e is to listen to the voice of the called person. It will always be at the top inside a cell phone.
Ringer: A ringer is also called a buzzer or loud speaker. It is a speaker with which we hear the ringtones and music and all the sounds which we hear louder.
Vibrator: A vibrator is also called vibration motor and vibra motor. It is a DC motor which creates vibration when it rotates. The vibration in the handset when we receive a call is due to this part.
Keypad: It works as an on-off switch. When we press the button. its two connectors contact with each other and the button functions. Keypads are outdated now, but still we need to know about it!
Antenna: Its function is to receive and transmit the signals. Now all models have antennas that are inbuilt and hence not visible from outside. In old phones, antennas were external and hence were visible.

Touch: It is a transparent part, above the LCD which allows the touch function to work. In most models now, the LCD and touch are fused together into one part.
Flex: Flex is a brownish golden coloured cable which is used for connecting parts. Its not used in all cell phones. It is used for connecting either LCD, touch or camera to the PCB.
Battery Connector: It connects the battery to the PCB of the mobile phone. It is the part that transfers the voltage from the battery to the PCB.
SIM Connector: It connects the SIM card to the PCB of the cell phone.
Charging Connector: It is a socket in which an external charger is plugged in to charge the battery of the mobile phone. It transfers the voltage from the charger to the PCB. It is also called charging port.
Earphone Connector: We insert the earphone (headset) into this part.

There are many more connectors on the PCB like LCD connector, touch connector, camera connector, etc.

If any of the spare part mentioned above become faulty, the corresponding function will not work.

Protect your Android SIM card with SIM PIN lock

The process of adding a SIM PIN to help prevent anyone from accessing precious account information or using your data plan.

You can protect the data on your phone to the point where no one can access it without knowing the various codes or have the exact bio-metric pattern of your fingerprint. But what about your phone number or your voice/data plans? Even with the best protection on your smartphone directory structure, someone could simply remove your SIM card — which holds your phone number, security data, billing information, and other bits of data — and place it in their device.

That password lock on your phone — doesn't protect your SIM card.
That filesystem encryption — doesn't protect your SIM card.

So, how can you protect your precious data? There's only one way: a SIM card PIN. Now that we've established the why, before we get into the how of this, I need to lay down a warning or two.

A SIM card typically comes with a default PIN, but it's not used for locking purposes. The SIM card also has an associated PIN Unlock Key (PUK). If you attempt to do a SIM PIN Lock, and you fail to guess the original PIN, the SIM will be locked with the PUK. If you run into this situation, you'll most likely have to log into your mobile account to retrieve this information.

Here are the steps for retrieving a PUK on an AT&T device:

Log into myAT&T from your computer
Select Wireless from the myAT&T tab at the top of the page
Select Phone/Device
Click Unblock SIM Card
A new page will open, containing the PUK code for your phone. Enter the code on your phone's screen to unblock the SIM, and create a new PIN

And here are the steps for retrieving a PUK on a Verizon device:

Log into My Verizon from your computer
Locate the I Want To... section
Click on More Actions
In the Device column, select Phone Details
Select Unlock SIM (PUK) Now to display the default PIN and PUK

If you cannot find your PUK, you'll most likely have to call your carrier.

If your carrier doesn't offer up the default PIN, most often it's either 0000 or 1111. But remember, you get three attempts. If the three attempts fail, you must enter the PUK. Without that PUK, your device will not be able to access the SIM card. Without the SIM card, you cannot use either your voice or data plan with the device.

Setting up the SIM lock

Now, we get to the fun part. Here are the steps for setting up a SIM PIN lock. I'll demonstrate on a Verizon-branded Samsung Galaxy S4. Follow these steps:

Go to Settings
Tap on the More tab
Tap Security
Tap Set up SIM card lock
Tap Lock SIM card (Figure A)
Enter the default SIM PIN
Tap OK

Once you have the lock enabled, you'll want to change the SIM PIN (otherwise people could guess the default). Here are the steps to change the PIN:

Enter the default PIN
Tap OK
When prompted, enter a new four-digit PIN
Tap OK
Confirm the four-digit PIN
Tap OK

That's it. When you restart your device, you'll be prompted to enter the SIM PIN (Figure B) before your phone can access the SIM.

At this point, you've secured the data on your SIM. You could remove that SIM and place it in another phone, but without that PIN, the SIM is useless.

10 easy ways to ruin your smartphone

One minute you have an indispensable high-tech tool... and the next minute, you have a doorstop. Avoid the cost and inconvenience of a damaged smartphone by following a few best practices.

We depend upon our smartphones. They keep us connected, informed, and up to date during the hectic daily grind. For many of us, those smartphones have become more than a simple tool, so we should probably take better care of them than we do. Instead of treating them as if they are toys that can be replaced on a whim, we should treat smartphones as if they contain sensitive data and our jobs depend upon them.

What steps can you take to make sure you don't damage or destroy your mobile device? I have a list of nasty things that can be hazardous to the health your smartphone or tablet. Give this a read and see whether you're guilty of any of these abusive behaviors.

1: Exposing it to the elements

Both heat and cold can bring that smart device to the land of devastation. Leaving your phone in a car in the heat of summer or overnight in the cold of winter is a surefire way of saying goodbye and having to return to your carrier for a replacement. Studies have shown that Android devices fare better in the cold than do IOS devices, but at about -40 degrees Fahrenheit both platforms will cease to work.

Heat is worse. At 113 degrees Fahrenheit, the devices will be adversely affected. The best way to avoid the effects of heat is to turn off the device. The moral of this story: Don't leave your phone in your car (and if you find yourself in the desert, turn that device off).

2: Rooting improperly

There's a certain cross-section of users who want to take as much control over their devices as possible. To do this, they root their smartphones. There are many reasons to root a device — as well as one reason not to. There is always a slim chance that an improper rooting can brick a phone. This is why, on every set of rooting instructions you find, you will see warnings that should have average users turning away from act. Actually, in many cases, there are tools that make rooting quite simple. But even with that simplicity, you could find yourself with a device refusing to function. Root carefully.

3: Ignoring malware

Malware isn't just for desktops. In fact, the threat of malware could do even worse damage on a smartphone. Why? Because smartphone malware can track your location (no matter where you are), snatch highly sensitive data, among other things. It is crucial that you use caution when installing apps on your smartphone. I always recommend that users install an app like Malwarebytes to keep their phones as malware free as possible. Do not ignore the threat of malware. Install enough malware-filled apps and your phone will become useless until it is removed.

4: Cramming it full

Smartphones have precious little storage space. Unless you use an Android phone and use SD cards intelligently, you can quickly fill up those devices until they won't work. My wife was completely unaware she was working without an SD card until the device started malfunctioning. I discovered she had no space remaining, added an SD card, and transferred all her photos from main storage. All was well. Without enough storage space, the device simply won't function. Monitor the space on your device and if possible, use SD cards.

5: Leaving it on... always

Our smartphones work, and work, and work, and work. In fact, in many cases these devices work better than our desktops and laptops. Thing is, even these remarkably stable mobile platforms need to be given a rest. At least once a week, reboot that device or (even better) shut it down for 30 minutes or so. Doing this will ensure that caches are cleared and subsystems are properly restarted. Shutting down the device once a week will aid with the longevity of the RAM on the device and allow certain diagnostics to be run at boot.

6: Botching the SIM card lock

There is one good reason to place a lock on your SIM card — so others can't use it. However, botch the SIM card lock and that SIM card is toast. I understand this is not the device itself — but until you can get the SIM card replaced, your phone will not function. If you feel the need to place a lock on the SIM card, do so VERY carefully. If you're not sure how to do this, read my post "Protect your Android SIM card with a SIM PINlock."

7: Plugging it in carelessly

Those micro USB connections aren't as bad as USB connections (there's always a 50/50 chance you'll get it right on the first try), but they still can be a bit tricky to connect. When frustration sets in, it's tempting to force the issue. Fight that urge at all costs. One swift push and the micro USB port is ruined. You break that and the phone is gone (at least when the battery finally runs down). Believe me, I've known a few people that have done this and wound up having to shell out for a new device. Always use care when connecting the device.

8: Pocket dwelling

For some odd reason, the younger generations have a penchant for shoving their devices into the back pockets of their skinny jeans. The first, obvious, risk is breakage. If those jeans don't have enough spandex in the fabric, and you sit the wrong way, that device could snap in half (with enough pressure). The other risk is due to the infinitesimal size of the pockets — barely large enough to hide half of the phone. Stand up too quickly and the phone will be jettisoned and crash down on the floor. Don't let death by skinny jeans be the end of your smartphone.

9: Flashing the wrong ROM

There are many ROMs out there for Android devices — ROMs that bring all kinds of amazing functionality or even just a bare minimum of functionality. But if you flash the wrong ROM onto your device, it will be toast. Flashing an incorrect ROM could even render the cell radio dead. Make absolutely sure that you're flashing a ROM that was designed for your specific device. You have been warned.

10: Getting it wet

I left the obvious for last. You might be surprised that even the slightest bit of water can do irreparable damage to a smartphone. This means if you use your device for outdoor activities (such as running or cycling), be sure to put the device in a waterproof case or baggie. Just make sure it doesn't get too hot or you'll run the risk of heat damage. If your device does get exposed to water, the first thing you should do is shut it down and pull out the battery (if applicable). And you can always use the "rice trick" —submerge the device in dry rice so all the moisture is removed. I have done this, and it works (if the moisture hasn't already destroyed the device).

Take no chances

Your smartphone isn't invincible. The likelihood that you'll destroy your device is low... but not low enough that you should ignore best practices. Treat that device with care and it will last you until the day before your contract expires. ;-)

Small Parts / Electronic Components of Mobile Phone and Their Function

The PCB of a mobile cell phone has several small parts or electronic components. When learning mobile repairing, it is important to learn and understand how to identity these small parts or electronic components and understand their function. Identification of these small parts on the PCB of a mobile phone is easy if you know and understand some of the basic rules. It is also important to understand what to do if any of these small components is faulty.

looks like a large button. Its function is to increase current. If this coil gets damaged then it has to be changed.

Coil: It is found in any section of a mobile phone. It is found in many shapes and sizes. Coils are found in 2 colours: (i) Black and white; and (ii) Blue and white. It has binding of copper coil inside. It filters and decreases Current and Voltage.

Capacitor: 3 types of capacitor are found in a mobile cell phone:

Non-Electrolytic Capacitor: It is found in any section of a mobile

phone. Its height is little more than chip resistance. It can be of gray, yellow or brown in color. It has no Positive (+) or Negative (-) side. It filters DC current.

Electrolytic Capacitor: It is found in any section of a mobile phone. Its size is larger than non-electrolytic capacitor. It is found in 2 colors – (i) Orange with brown strip: and (ii) Black with white strip. The side with the strip is Positive (+) and the other side is Negative (-). It filters and stores current.

Network Capacitor: It is found in any section of a mobile phone. It is made from 2 or more Non-Electrolytic Capacitors.

mobile phone. It is of either black or white color and has 6 pins bent inside.

Function: It filters network.

Faults: If the coupler is faulty then there will be no network in the mobile phone.

Diode: Diodes are of 4 types:-

Rectifier Diode: It is found in black color and converts AC Current to DC Current. It passes current in one direction. It does not pass current in reverse direction.

LED: It is found in white or light yellow color and emits light.

Zener Diode: It is found in charging section. It filters and minimize current and passes forward. It acts as voltage regulator. Zener diode has fixed capacity like 4V, 6V, 8V etc.

Photo Diode: It is used for Infrared. It captures Infrared Rays.

Regulator: This electronic component is found in any section of a mobile phone. It is of black color and has 5 or 6 legs. It filters current and regulates voltage.

Chip Resistance: It can be found in any section of a mobile phone. It is of black color. In some sets it is also found in blue and green colour. It is the smallest electronic components on the PCB of a mobile phone. It Decreases current and passes forward.

Network Resistance: It can be found in any section of a mobile phone. It is made from 2 or more Chip Resistance.

Transistor: This electronic component is found in any section of a mobile phone. It is of black color and it has 3 legs. It does the work of switching.

ndroid phones nowadays come with great connectivity options, like 3G and 4G LTE. The 3G and 4G LTE network offers faster internet data speeds than the 2G, GPRS or EDGE. If you subscribed to 4G LTE or 3G internet Data plan it is very vital and beneficial to use it in LTE, HSPA+ or WCDMA only as Preferred Network Internet speeds. In some cases to avoid heavy data charges you might prefer to go with 2G GPRS network mode only. If you have 4G phone below methods will help you to switch between different network modes. But if you have 3G smartphone and want to use 4G LTE SIM card on 3G phone you can check last two methods / tricks but it is not possible to use 4G LTE only network operator SIM on 3G or 2G phone. You can buy JIOFI and can make HD calls and use 4G data speed on any 3G or 2G supported phone over Wi-Fi. Otherwise you need to upgrade to LTE / VOLTE capable phone.

Android operating system offers the variety of options to choose the best Preferred network according to your comfort. We found that in some Dual SIM smartphones users faces difficulty in selecting their desired preferred network mode. Below are two solutions, with which you can Toogle Switch or Change from 2G to 3G or force 4G LTE only mode or vice-versa. Many are trying to switch to 4G LTE so that they can enjoy Reliance JIO 4G VOLTE free calling and unlimited data offer on mobile phones. Now Airtel 4G, Vodafone, Idea, BSNL unlimited plan (3G without usage restriction) and many other operators has also launched low price data plans, but mostly with Data cap / speed restriction.

Toggle / Switch Change 2G to 3G 4G LTE only mode in Android Phone using Settings:

First Go to Settings
Select Wireless and Networks
Scroll Down and Touch on Mobile Network
Tap on Dual SIM / SIM Settings
Select “Network Mode”
Some option Will Pop in the Screen
WCDMA (Means 3G) , GSM (2G ) , LTE (4G)
Choose the best Suited Option for according to you preferences

You can also select Combination of 2G + 3G ( Will automatically choose 2G network when 3G is not available). Many users found that after selecting 4G LTE or 2G Network the status bar shows no network signal. This could be due to several reasons, diagnose it in following ways:

Make sure 3G or 4G LTE network signal are available in your area
Go to Network Operators (you will find it in Above solution at Step 5)
And Touch on “Select Automatically” or “Search Network” to select Network Manually
