The Charvel Surfcaster designed in the early 1990s, and manufactured from 1992 to 2005 by the Charvel/Jackson guitar company.

Gibson Guitars Being Investigated By US Police

The Guardian reports: The US manufacturer is under federal investigation for allegedly using illegal rosewood from Madagascar to make its guitars.

Federal agents recently raided the company's Massman Road manufacturing facility in Nashville, Tennessee.

Because of the Lacey Act in the U.S., companies are not allowed to bring Madagascan rosewood into the country due to corruption and environmental issues.

In response to the situation, Gibson stated that they are "fully co-operating" with the federal investigation.

Simple Plan Live!
These guys kicked some serious butt!
It's high-flying adrenaline from the first second jumps out on stage to the last pounding guitar riff of the night.
If you're not prepared to jump around, then I suggest you sit this one out.
The guys of Simple Plan (Pierre Bouvier, Sebastian Lefebvre, Chuck Comeau, David Desrosiers and Jeff Stinco) gave 110% on stage pumping out their hits, I'm Just a Kid and I'd Do Anything. It's obvious they have a ton of fun up there and it's contagious.
Sebastian often threw guitar picks into the audience for adoring fans.
Pierre climbed anything on the stage that he could reach and he even crowd surfed.
Chuck tossed his drum sticks into the crowd at the end and Dave and Jeff made sure that no fan overheated during the sun-filled, outdoor show.
So if you ever get the chance to see Simple Plan live, then check 'em out!

“Rory McGowan joined our team early this year and right from the start he was sketching crazy guitar designs… The guitar was started in June with Rory working full time on it and myself over-seeing the work, getting as much hands-on as time would allow. By August it was starting to look close and was finally finished in September after at least 400 hours of hard but fulfilling work.”

This is a "one off" made by Wayne Charvel and painted by Michael Charvel.
This was their "model" guitar for the 2004 NAMM show.
It has a Seymore JB Zebra in the bridge, an original Floyd Rose with locking nut, And the most killer paint job! (Orange with ghost flames that switch from golden to reddish depending how you hold it and how the light hits it) It has an awesome Birdseye Maple Neck that has been hand rounded and rubbed with linseed oil to seal it.

PRS tube amplifiers!

PRS has introduced a line up of tube amplifiers that were designed in coordination with designer Doug Sewell.
Artists Derek Trucks and David Grissmon have already endorsed the new amp line.
The PRS amps come in three different models - The Dallas, Blue Sierra, and Original Sewell.

Paul Reed Smith (PRS) - Quality Guitars

Paul Reed Smith (PRS), is a luthier and the founder and owner of PRS Guitars.

Smith is originally from Bowie, Maryland. He made his first guitar while at St. Mary's College of Maryland, and continued to build guitars after he finished college, making them one at a time, one a month. Together with another local, John "Orkie" Ingram, they formed the nucleus of what would become Paul Reed Smith Guitars.

Smith would often bring his guitars backstage at concerts, and eventually got his break when Derek St. Holmes, of the Ted Nugent Band, agreed to try out #2, the second guitar Smith had ever made. St. Holmes played the guitar for the first few songs of his set, and Smith told him that after he showed it to some other musicians, he would fly out to Detroit and give it to him. St. Holmes eventually sold the guitar for $200.

Smith then contacted Ted McCarty, former president of Gibson and creator of the Explorer, ES-335 and Flying V guitars, and McCarty became his mentor and adviser. The result of their collaboration was the current line of PRS Guitars, which include solid- and hollow-body guitars. The Private Stock line of PRS guitars are made utilizing a vast range of exotic materials including various stones, elaborately figured tone woods, and intricate shells for inlays.

Rare Trussart Electric Guitar Steel O Matic

James Trussart is one of the few builders who has broken the mold of traditional guitar making. Working with steel as the primary material, he produces guitars that are as unique in appearance as they are in tone.

Trussart is a musician-turned-luthier. The Parisian native began his career as a fiddler, accompanying Cajun singer-songwriter Zachary Richard in the late ’70s, before turning his attention to crafting violins and later guitars in 1980. From his current So-Cal home workshop (where he’s resided since 2000), Trussart crafts custom steel-bodied guitars, basses and violins in a dazzling array of finishes, reminiscent of shiny chrome resonator instruments and rusty, weathered or fossilized discarded machinery. And the tone is so distinctive that Trussart guitars have become ‘must-have’ instruments in the arsenals of influential artists including Paul Simon, Eric Clapton, Billy Gibbons, Joe Walsh, Jack White, Charlie Sexton, Daniel Lanois, Marc Ribot, Peter Stroud (Sheryl Crow), Rich Robinson (Black Crowes), Sonny Landreth, Joe Perry, Tom Morello, Billy Corgan, The Roots and many, many more.

“I've always like the look and feel of old guitars, believing them to have a life beyond that of their creator," says Trussart. “And I wanted to somehow emulate that effect of age and history on my own guitars. I wanted to make a guitar that came with a history and a slight element of neglect, of decay, so it had a personality of its own.” Trussart’s creations are designed to have the look and feel of a vintage instrument with the added appeal of a metal construction.
His "Rust-o-matic" technique (a term coined by Billy Gibbons regarding Trussart’s unique finishes) involves leaving the guitar body exposed to the elements for several weeks, allowing it to corrode before treating it to stop the corrosion. He then sands it to replicate years of distress, and then finishes it with a clear satin coat.

Many of the Trussart models features patterns either engraved or literally imprinted into the metal bodies or on the pickguard or headstock. Engraved skulls, roses and tribal art are some of the more common themes, while others feature textures of alligator skin or plant materials. He literally ‘sandwiches’ the metal with the alligator skin and lets it sit in water for several days.
Various pickup options are offered, but standard fare is Arcane Inc. Custom pickups that are built specifically for the Trussart guitars and Basses. Neck options offered are the classic radius and shape guaranteed to fit the most demanding players needs.

And the sound? Former Guitar Player magazine editor and guitarist Joe Gore (Tom Waits, PJ Harvey, Tracy Chapman) summed the distinguishing tone of Trussart’s Steelcaster with the following rave:“I literally believe this guitar makes me play better. I love the combination of ultra-articulate attack and full-bodied sustain. It’s almost as if one is playing through a high-quality compressor, only without sacrificing a shred of transient impact. The subtle metallic resonance - that extra midrange peachiness - telegraphs articulation details. I play predominantly with my bare fingers, and I've never before encounter an electric guitar that communicates the texture of skin, nail, and combinations thereof with such breathtaking immediacy. I also find myself better able to ‘shape’ notes. I think that’s dueto: a combination of the guitar’s innate sustain, the perfect fretwork, the way subtle neck bends complement finger vibrato, and the gratifying ‘feedback loop’ created when the metal body hums against your chest.”

Rare Heartfield EX-2 electric guitar

Built in 1989 in Japan (Fuji-Gen Gakki), possibly a prototype because it differs from print advertising of the time as well as the catalog photo in terms of switch placement, scaled down strat-style body with 22 fret set-in maple neck with rosewood fingerboard.
Alder body with spectacular two piece bookmatched gray flamed maple top.
Original electronics included three single coil pickups with 3 way strat-like switching and two mini-switches with volume, tone, and midrange boost knobs.
Bridge is a Gotoh licensed Floyd Rose clone.
Tuners were also non-locking Gotohs (guitar has a locking nut).
The neck has large jumbo frets and is a pleasure to play.
hardshell case with crushed velvet that matches the color of the guitar.
