Beautiful people, the time has finally come. Only one month away 11.8.11 from my new release 'AgirLnaMeKING'

I know ... it's been a long time since my last album and it's been challenging to say the least. But my gratitude for being able to still do the thing I love the most and to share it with U, overrides all. I appreciate your patience and humbled by your loyalty, there's no me without U. This one is very dear to me as you will see from the bio below. These song are 'Perfectly Imperfect' but I love them the way they are. I hope U will 2. And don't U worry about my wellbeing :)

Regarding her new album "AgirLnaMeKING' Diana has an interesting story.

She is no stranger to obstacles, she's had a very rough childhood but went on to become one of the most famous female singers to emerge from the island of Jamaica.

A few years ago, she was diagnosed with "MS" Multiple Sclerosis and was told that she may not walk again. After a long bout of depression, as is expected with news of this nature, she decided not to accept that she had this disease and rejected all the drugs the doctors suggested. She literally willed herself to walk and took care of herself by using natural methods. During the time she was unable to walk, she couldn't work (sing on stage) either, which led to deeper despair. But as the months rolled by, she soon found therapy in writing. She had always written her own songs but had never produced. So she bought some equipment, set up a small home studio, went back to school, got certified to operate Pro-Tools and taught herself how to play the piano well enough to produce what she was hearing in her head. The more she wrote the more her symptoms disappeared, it was like a miracle, and she felt GOOD.

By the time she was done she had written and produced about 100 songs by herself, music and vocals.

These songs represent a few of the first set that she would like to share with the world.

Her unique style of blending her native Reggae and Jamaican dialect with R&B, Soul, Dance and Pop, has made her a standout artist since the release of her first hit "Shy Guy."

Diana has always believed in staying true to herself no matter what, as an artist and as a person.

These new songs take you on a musical journey and shows her versatility and passion. They truly live up to what her fans have grown to love and expect from her, only this time it's all HER.

IT'S BEEN MORE THAN A MINUTE SINCE I BLOGGED.

I haven't been slacking though, I've been busy getting ready to bring you "AgirLnaMeKING" ... the new Album.

The Album's release date is November 8th, my birthday.

I've been doing promotions and live shows here and there as I plan the release and world tour. Don't worry, I'll be posting a full schedule and update as soon as I have it.

It's been hectic but I love what I do and apparently so do U :)

I just want to say thanks again for allowing me to continue doing this music that is my passion. I promise to always try my hardest to give U good vibes while I'm on-stage whenever U come out to see me, because U deserve it.

Diana has an interesting story.

She is no stranger to obstacles, she's had a very rough childhood but went on to become one of the most famous female singers to emerge from the island of Jamaica.

I WROTE A LETTER 2 OPRAH .. I WONDER IF SHE WILL GET IT?

I wrote a letter to OPRAH today ... and sent it to her via her website. I was nervous and felt like a little child. I've never done anything like this before so I went through the process a few times, just incase, just to be sure it went through.

I wonder if she'll receive it.

The limit to send a message was 2000 words and my letter was about 6000 words, so I had to divide it into 3 parts. After a while I thought, "Maybe i should have just mailed it," LOL .. My mama would say in jamaican "What a ee-pisle!" (What an epistle!)

For some strange reason, one that I won't even try to figure out now, I have been thinking to myself lately, "I don't want to die without letting Oprah know how she changed my life," and how much I want to thank her for inspiring me in the highest way as a young girl. She was a major part of my journey in becoming the woman I am today and she still is.

How did she do that? The same way she's been inspiring U for the past 25 years.

I won't get into the full story now, I'm actually writing my autobiography "AgirLnaMeKING" ... but Oprah saved my life once ... she truly did.

At the time, I didn't even know who she was and had never heard about her before. But there I was, sitting in a food shack hoping for leftovers on a beach in Ocho Rios, Jamaica (where I had been sleeping in the bushes for days) in front of a black and white TV watching her for the 1st time about 20 something years ago. This show was not exactly about, but similar to what I was going through which had caused me to run away from home at 13 years old and "Oh - My - Goodness" ... she lifted me up with her words, so high that I will never forget it because it eternally and internally changed me. It was unbelievable.

I was at the end of my rope and hopes and was barely hanging on mentally. I had no friends and was an outcast in my community, so I took off an a bus that landed me in this world famous tourist area. I was so afraid and alone with no options and I was at "That Point" .. about to give up on my own life. But a miracle happened. Watching her and hearing her that sunny day that I remember so clearly, speak about going through the abuse she went through gave me the strength and courage I needed at the time to let it go and free myself from the burden of shame I was carrying. And everyday after that, I could literally feel it leaving my body little by little and I was never the same. It has always amazed me how I was able to get that message and actually do it at such a young age but I have stopped trying to question it. Some questions just have no answers, it just IS but I know this much. It gave me back a voice, MY VOICE and led me to become the person, and the international artist you now know and love today. For that, I'll always be grateful. For me at first she was just a young woman who looked like me, who had an experience - like me, who spoke well - like me and who was brave - just like I wanted to B. It was a while after that I realized how loved and famous she was. But this 'happening' marked the beginning of my Oprah lovefest.

I've dreamt of meeting her in person one day, just to tell her my story and the role she played. Just to say how much I appreciate and respect her. I know the line is long but at-least, I can write it and U all can read it :)

But as I watch her do the countdown to her last show on her "FAREWELL SEASON", I can't help but wonder If it will ever happen. Will I ever get to say. THANK U OPRAH? Somehow I thought she'd always be there at 4:00pm but I understand, that we do move on to different things. But as always, I'm positive you never know :)))

It's very powerful and profound when a person can positively impact you and millions of people thousands of miles away and apart, all over the world ... through a TV screen. I wonder if she ever thought or felt she would be who she is today to so many. The magnitude of it all. I know she felt something because she said it, in her "Master Class" series. I can relate to that feeling, because I felt it too for myself and just like her, I just didn't know what I'd end up being ... Watching her back then, made me feel worthy, like I was 'somebody' too. That AH-HA moment turned on MY Light and reminded me of who I AM. It led me on the path to 'LOVE YOURSELF LIVE YOURSELF' my motto and the personal meaning of my face tattoo. And everyday I feel a great responsibility to try my hardest to follow her lead and the lead of so many great women to 'inspire' in my OWN way.

If someone inspired or inspires U, tell them, THANK THEM. Give them their flowers while they R still alive.

I hope she gets my letter, but if not them I'll always tell my story 2 U and she's all over it lol.

JAMAICA JAZZ & BLUES FESTIVAL 2011 "The Art Of Music"

What can I say "I DID IT" .. Let me tell U Beautiful PPL, I have been wanting and waiting to do 'JAMAICA JAZZ FEST' for 15 yrs. Ever since I did my hit "SHY GUY" but every year I was disappointed when I was not on it. Patience is a virtue?? I have not done a "BIG" show in jamaica since the late 90's. I believe it was "SUMFEST", a show that I won an award for best performer "YEAY". Not sure of the reason or maybe I just don't want to say :) but I know one reason is because I refuse to perform without my band and my band and crew including myself is 13 ppl and I no longer reside in Jamaica. Plenty PPL to pay and put up LOL. Well it's all for a good reason .. My fans should get 100% of me if not more, especially when they've paid their hard earned money .. not a watered down or 2nd class performance. In a way I've paid for this as MOST promoters are not quick to pay but U gotta have standards right? and I am so worth it (well so I've heard :)) BUT I KNO U R WORTH IT

I had nothing really to compare this 2011 JAZZFEST to since it was my 1st time there period. I overheard many ppl saying this was the worse one as far as the amount of patrons there and the line up but the whole vibe was nice and I so needed the reconnection with the land of my birth and my original fans.

TRUTH B TOLD THO, THE TURNOUT WAS A BIT OF A LET DOWN .. BUT GOOD THINGZ COME IN SMALL PACKAGES :)) I was pumped like a prized fighter, adrenaline way up .. I gave my all and I had a Blast. The audience ROCKED!! .. I could feel them, that they were having a good time. I was so high off the performance that I didn't sleep the whole night. It all happened so fast, I wanted to sing more. So many tunes I didn't get to sing ... then the next day I had interviews. I did my best to B alert and make sense LOL, I get a little delirious when I don't get sleep :)) YU KNO IT'S HARD OUT ERE 4 A SINGA!

I appreciated all the performances, MAROON 5 was wikid! AIR SUPPLY was that (singing along to every song) experience LOL and I thoroughly enjoyed "TAURUS RILEY" but I was actually drawn to the Heineken stage (which I think is a genius idea). The Heineken stage is where mostly upcoming artistes perform when there's a band change on the "MAIN STAGE" so that patrons are not (bored) or left waiting for the next artist to come on. My most memorable performance was of "SUSAN COUCH and BLACK ZEBRA" on the Heineken stage (not up and coming at all). I was very disappointed though that whenever the "MAIN STAGE" was ready, it seemed like there was no communication to the Heineken stage that they should wrap up or even given time to do so. They just cut their sound off and the artist were left looking around like "WTH" happened ... DISRESPECTFUL!!!

I hope this will change in the future as every Big artist was a small artist. Everyone deserves RESPECT.

NOW THAT IT'S ALL OVER .. I'm busy getting ready to release the new music for Spring. I previewed a few of them on the show and they were very well received. I'm PSYCHED. Doing it myself is hard work, not having a Major label nor a large team but I embrace the challenge and it's worth it in the end.

MAN, ALMOST DIDN'T MAKE IT TO MAURITIUS ISLAND for the "INTERNATIONAL KREOL FESTIVAL" but I'M SO HAPPY WE DID.

ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN AT ANYTIME but USUALLY I DON'T AGREE TO DO A SHOW IF I DON'T HAVE A FEW MONTHS IN ADVANCE.

IT TAKES A LOT OF "TIME" TO PLAN A GOOD SHOW, TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS AS IT SHOULD B .. SO THIS ONE WAS A LAST MINUTE SHOW 4 ME but I WANTED 2 GO. EVERYTHING DIDN'T COME TOGETHER UNTIL THE LAST LAST MINUTE! STRESSED OUT MI SEH!!

WHEN WE GOT TO PARIS from MIAMI TO MAKE OUR CONNECTION WE WERE TOLD OUR FLIGHT WAS CANCELLED BECAUSE OF THE SNOW STORM THAT HAD HIT THE AREA THE DAY BEFORE ... IF WE DIDN'T MAKE THIS FLIGHT WE WOULD NOT GET THERE INTIME FOR THE SHOW BUT "Alas"!! LADY LUCK WAS ON OUR SIDE and WE ACTUALLY GOT ON AN EARLIER FLIGHT INTO MAURITIUS .. I GUESS we WERE MEANT TO GO "YEAY"

13 hrs. AHEAD OF JAMROCK .. IT TOOK US ALMOST 2 DAYS IN TOTAL TO GET THERE. WE HAD 1/2 FREE DAY when we landed, THEN the SHOW THE NEXT DAY then FLY BACK THE DAY AFTER THE SHOW .. ANOTHER 2 DAYS 2 GET BACK HOME ... 2 SHORT 4 REAL. DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TIME TO SAMPLE THE BEACH that FLOWED FROM THE INDIAN OCEAN THAT WAS ONLY STEPS AWAY FROM MY BALCONY.

IT ACTUALLY TOOK US 6 DAYS (almost a week) TO DO ONE SHOW "DAMN" lol I LUV MY JOB :)

I'VE BEEN TO REUNION ISLAND (1hr flight away) BEFORE but THIS WAS MY 1st TIME IN MAURICE. I'M ALWAYS NERVOUS ANYWAY BUT MORE SO WHEN I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE AUDIENCE. U KNOW THEY KNOW "SHY GUY" and 'L-L-LIES" etc. BUT U CAN'T DO A SHOW WITH JUS THOSE SONGS RIGHT lol.

I WENT ON ABOUT 1am. AFTER THE 2nd SONG ONSTAGE THE POWER WENT OFF ON US FOR ABOUT WHAT SEEMED LIKE 10mins. EVERYONE WAS LIKE "Oh Hell Noooo" BUT SURPRISINGLY I WAS PUMPED, WE ALL WERE AND WE STAYED ON STAGE IN THE MOONLIGHT WAITING. NOBODY MOVED AND NOBODY LEFT NOBODY SHOUTED FROM THE AUDIENCE (that was a pleasant surprise). BUT I JUS KNEW THAT ANY MIN. NOW THE SHOW WOULD GO ON...AND IT DID. THE CROWD WAS LOUD (close to 100K PPL). THEY SANG ALONG TO THE SONGS, THEY SANG WHATEVER I ASKED THEM TO SING (I always luv that) AND THEY DANCED THE NIGHT AWAY TO THE OLD SONGS AND THE NEW ONES. I WAS HUMBLED ONCE AGAIN. IT ALWAYS AMAZES ME HOW MUSIC BRINGS ALL DIFFERENT TYPES OF PPL TOGETHER, "CLOSER" .. PPL WHO MAY OTHERWISE B FIGHTING.. IS MUSIC THE CURE? I THINK SO :)

THE PPL OF MAURICE R DIVERSE. MUCH LIKE JAMAICA. A MIXTURE OF DESCENDANTS FROM AFRICA, INDIA (Asia all parts) AND EUROPE. CHRISTIANs MUSLIMS, HINDUs AND RASTAFARIANs and THEY SPEAK FRENCH, ENGLISH AND their local language KREOL. "OUT OF MANY ONE PEOPLE" ALL TOGETHER JUS JAMMIN TILL THE JAMMIN WAS THRU and we stayed all night. I FELT QUITE AT HOME, LIKE I WAS IN NEGRIL or IN PORTLAND that's how it looked 2.

THEY TAUGHT US ABOUT THEIR HISTORY THEIR DANCE "SA GE" AND their MUSIC WHICH IS CALLED "SEGGAE" like "REGGAE" IT WAS AMAZING HOW SIMILAR IT WAS/IS TO OURS, THEIR DANCE MOVES we call it "WINING" but THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS WHEN U "WINE" THERE, U DON'T TOUCH :)) THE HISTORY BEHIND IT IS VERY INTERESTING AS THE DANCE CAME FROM BEING CHAINED AS SLAVES AND NOT BEING ABLE TO TOUCH. IT WAS THIS DANCE THAT TOLD THE SLAVE MASTERS WHICH SLAVE SHOULD or WANTED TO MARRY WHICH SLAVE AS THE WAY THEY DANCED WITH EACH OTHER SHOWED HOW THEY FELT ABOUT EACH OTHER.

EARLIER ON THE DAY OF THE SHOW, A RAINBOW OF KIDS FROM AN ORPHANAGE CAME BY MY HOTEL TO MEET AND PERFORM FOR ME. I WAS DEEPLY TOUCHED BY THEM. THEY DID POEMS AND SONGS FOR ME WHILE THEIR LEADER (a man with white hair who looked like the aborigines from Australia) INTERPRETED WHAT THEY WERE SAYING AS they were ALL DONE IN LANGUAGES I DID NOT UNDERSTAND.

THEY TOLD MANY SAD STORIES OF THEIR PAST BUT EXPRESSED THEIR NEW FOUND HAPPINESS WITH THE LOVE AND CARE THEY NOW RECEIVED AT THE ORPHANAGE. THEIR EYES WERE SHY BUT ALSO FULL OF LIFE & PROMISE FOR THE FUTURE.

I THEN PRESENTED THEM WITH GIFTS FROM THE GOVERNMENT AND MYSELF AND ENCOURAGED THEM TO B STRONG AND ALWAYS B THEMSELVES. THE GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL THERE TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE IN EXCESS OF US$40 MILL. Unassuming and completely relaxed, Diana King is at ease inside the Arena @ The Acropolis. She's sipping stylishly and sharing what's been happening with her career and where she intends to take it all.

What are you sipping?

A virgin strawberry daiquiri.

Tell us about Shy Guy; that was your first big hit.

This year is the 15-year anniversary of that song and because of that I've done a remix.

And what was it like having that featured in the blockbuster movie Bad Boys?

It was a very special moment for me as a Jamaican to have music on the soundtrack of what was a megahit movie for not just the African-American culture, but pop culture as well... It was a great feat!

And then, there was Say A Little Prayer, also a soundtrack featured in My Best Friend's Wedding. How was this experience different from the first?

Say A Little Prayer was a cover, it was a suggestion from the record label and I did the reggae version and the dance-mix, and both did incredibly well.

You haven't performed for your local fans with a band since the 1990s; what can fans expect of Diana King when you perform at the Babyface concert on November 13?

I'm doing a special guest appearance, so I'll do about three or four songs… I'm very excited to be on that show.

What's been happening with Diana King?

I was sick for a while, since 2005 when I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis...as soon as I heard, I decided I wasn't going to own it. For months I couldn't walk, bathe myself or anything... I got sick of being depressed and decided to take my career into my own hands: write my own songs and do things my way.

Tell us about your new project.

It's very special because not only did I write and produce the songs myself, I also released it on my own label called Think Like A Girl. I did this because I own 100 per cent of things that I do from here on out.

What's your new album called?

Warrior Girl — the title track is a very personal testament that speaks to life in the past few years. It's been tough as a musician, for anybody… even the big names.

The United Way show is for charity; tell us some of your charitable efforts.

Personally, I'm not involved in any charity right now, whatever I can do for people I do in my own small way. But I would love to work with the Women's Centre in Kingston.

What advice do you have for females in particular who wish to pursue music?

A lot of people look at the glitzy side of this business, which is like 10 per cent... The other 90 per cent is hard work, it's a very rough business. It's going to try to break you, but the thing is to know who you are. Know yourself in order to have longevity. A lot of artistes are waiting to blow up, but you have to set yourself on fire!

Who are the new artistes you're feeling?

I've been watching Jamaica and...nothing. But I will say I really like Etana and Tessanne… Tessanne reminds me of me... maybe that's why I love her. But as a rule, the music industry is like not going anywhere. But in defence of their craft, I haven't really been here... I just see stuff on Facebook, so I can't really judge.

What are some the challenges in the music arena right now?

The lack of shows, even big artistes not getting shows.

Who is Diana King?

I'm just a simple girl, I've done all the photo shoots with fake hair, lashes and dressing up, but I've realised that I have to be true to myself...I'm just a simple girl who loves performing barefoot and rocking jeans and T-shirts, it's either you love me or leave me.

What's your essential style item?

A fabulous scarf and oh... a big ring! And my nails have to be 'did'!

Do you think you're a diva?

No… sometimes it's flattering to be called that, but it's not often positive. But if you're calling me a diva because I can sing, I'd say 'yes I am'... no to the other stuff.

In closing, what do you feel is the legacy of Diana King?

My music, what else? And that it's not what I do for myself, but for others... I could die broke, but I know I'd have given to others and enriched lives.

Diana King gets CLOSER to her roots

Closer, a new single, on Diana King's latest compilation, Warrior Girl, set for release next year, has already hit a chord with Jamaicans. King performed Closer during her first set in Jamaica in many years, something she was nervous about. She wasn't nervous about that song.

"Mostly I sing about love, all things love; so I performed that song on a tour I just came off of in Japan and the band loved it so much they said, 'you have to do this song, you have to play it for Jamaica', and it seemed like it was well received," she said.

She was right. People swayed and smiled as she sang the words to Closer, which some patrons were overheard describing as 'powerful.' The song is among those appearing on the album, which is to be released about March next year, she said.

King, who records for her own ThinkLikeAgirL Music, describes making the album as a challenge.

"I wrote and produced all the songs. It was crazy, most of the times I didn't know what I was doing. I just went along with how I felt and it took a long time sometimes," she explained. "But it was something I wanted to challenge myself to do and it's a great feeling."

100% CONTROL

She is releasing the song on her own label, which means she has 100 per cent control over her work, something that all artistes want to achieve.

"So I am happy about that. It's harder. Oh my God, it was so hard sometimes, I had to talk to myself not to quit but it's better in the long run," she said.

King said she knows her true fans will appreciate the latest work.

King arrived in Jamaica for her performance two Sundays ago at 'Babyface's' concert, a little apprehensive.

"It was a few years ago (that I performed in Jamaica) and the last time it was one song because it was an awards show. So I did one song with a band, but it was one song. I guess, nothing happens before the time because I have always wanted to come," she said.

That, and knowing how tough a Jamaican crowd can be, had her on edge.

"You know what? I would have driven myself nuts just thinking about this show. I was so nervous because I am a Jamaican and I know how that is; and if you don't bring it you're getting booed," she revealed with a laugh.

'I was just myself'

She did recognise, however, that there are advantages to being a Jamaican performing before her own people.

"What is great about Jamaica is that I can talk to them and they know what I mean. How we talk, I can just talk my Patois, English if I want, but certain things I can say and they know what I mean, and that's what's special about Jamaican audiences and I was just myself and I think they appreciated that," she said. "I was just myself, and it worked."

Armed with that knowledge, she came to the stage at the National Indoor Sports Centre and immediately got a boost when the near sold-out venue gave her a rousing reception. Scores of patrons from the 2000-seater VIP section rushed to the foot of the stage, eager not to miss a single note from her golden vocal chords and snap photographs. She blew their minds.

Clad in an ankle-length black spaghetti-strapped dress and barefoot, King began with Ain't Nobody, a song made famous by Chaka Khan, but which she has made her own over the years. Her short but very sweet set also included Treat Her Like a Lady, L-L-Lies; her Billboard top 20-hit Shy Guy to rousing applause; and Say a Little Prayer during an encore.

King is expected to return to Jamaica in January for the Jazz and Blues Festival. She promises that when she returns, fans will get a lot more of her and her music. She only performed a handful of songs at the Babyface concert because of time constraints, she explained, but come January,

"I will be able to do all the songs that people didn't hear (last Saturday) night."

Diana King is BACK HOME after 3 years: Artiste promises a November to Remember

World renowned singing sensation and daughter of Jamaica, Diana King, promises a great performance to fans who come out to enjoy a special performance at the November 13 Spend an Evening with Kenny 'Babyface' Edmonds charity event to be held at the National Indoor Sports Centre in St Andrew.

The Gleaner caught up with King at the the University of the West Indies' Philip Sherlock Centre, where she was rehearsing with her background vocalist for an upcoming performance in Japan in mid-November.

"I'll be doing a special performance filled with all the hits they [fans] love, Shy Guy, Say A Little Prayer, Lies, and all the others. It'll be great," said King.

"I interact with my fans on my Facebook a lot. I ask them what they want me to sing, so I can know what they want to hear," she added.

The international superstar appeared to be very excited about being in Jamaica. That excitement evident in her voice, she said, "It's great to be home! It's been almost three years since I've been here. I'm very excited. I mean, I haven't been here for so long!"

GREAT EXPERIENCES

King spoke of her great experiences in Jamaica. This time around, she expects no different.

"It's always been great when I come here to perform, but I'm really looking forward to the jazz and blues festival coming up. I get to use my own band and all. The last time I performed in Jamaica was probably back in the '90s at Reggae Sumfest," said King.

Her new CD, Warrior Girl, which she wrote and produced, has already been released in Japan and, according to King, is doing quite well.

"The CD is doing really good over there. Four different songs from it is on the charts over there. I'm very proud of the fact that I did all the production on the album as well," she said.

The CD was released on her newly formed record label, Think Like A Girl Music.

The label, she said, was named after the single and album of the same name because,

"I do think like a girl. Most of my songs are about being in a relationship, love and tenderness.

"I chose think like a girl because I wanted to focus on female artistes. The pressure they face is not equal to that faced by men. In many things, it's like that," she said.

She said, however, that she doesn't have an artiste she wants to sign to the label in mind, but she mentioned a few local artistes she admired.

"I like Cherine, Alaine, Etana and definitely Tanya Stephens. I want to do a song with Tanya. She wicked! Is like her lyrics can't done. I like Etana's consciousness and Tessanne [Chin], she was the last artiste that made me say wow when she came with the reggae mixed with the rock," said King.

King will be performing alongside Babyface, No-Maddz and the Silver Birds Steel Orchestra at the concert which is one of the activities scheduled to take place from November 8 to 14 during The United Way of Jamaica week.

KINGSINGA wraps successful showing in Japan!

After releasing her self-produced 4th studio album "WARRIOR GURL" through a licensing deal with Warner Music Japan - the KINGSINGA - Diana King headed to Japan to promote the release and perform for her fans inside the renowned Billboard Live venues in Osaka and Tokyo.

"Its been a fulfilling and touching experience...the journey...writing, singing and producing the songs by myself..not knowing how long it would take and deciding to do the tour with mostly the new songs. Just seeing the response to them makes me feel very proud - I can only get better...it's definitely a confidence booster!" says King.

Diana performed at the Billboard Live, Osaka where the crowd rocked, jammed, sang and danced the night away - they couldn't get enough of the KINGSINGA. The crowd response to high energy tracks like "FOREVA YOUNG" "BAD GYAL" "SHY GUY RELOADED" and "CUM 2 ME" was EXPLOSIVE. The audience was also mesmerized by the intense ballad "CLOSER" which took them across genres from RnB to Reggae to Rock.

"SHIMA UTA" a Japanese cover from the WARRIOR GURL CD (bonus track for Japan) was a very emotional song. Audience members were seen visibly moved (some moved to tears).

"Warner Music gave me some songs that they wanted me to cover and without even knowing what the song meant I fell in love with it.
SHIMA UTA means lovely island which is really about Okinawa Island in Japan but for me when I sing it I think of Jamaica - my island."

The original version was done by the Japanese band BOOM and was an instant hit and million seller and has been covered by various artists from all over the world through the years.

According to Nao Hikosaka and Warner staff "SHIMA UTA" is such a popular song among Japanese people and we have special feelings for the song.To have an international superstar like Diana sing this song means so much to us and she has brought new Jamaican touch to the song which was INCREDIBLE. When we first heard her version, we were so excited! New version of "SHY GUY" on the new album is also very cool!

SHY GUY RELOADED - a high energy remix of the original was produced by King to celebrate the 15 year anniversary of SHY GUY. "Can you believe it's been 15 years since SHY GUY? and the song is still loved around the world!"

KINGSINGA is at a new point in her career with the launch of her independent record label ThinkLikeAgirL Music and the release of her 4th self-produced studio album, "WARRIOR GURL" (currently licensed to Warner Music Japan).

Over the past 2 weeks, Diana has been in Kingston, preparing for her promotional tour of Japan which will see her backed by some familiar faces like Paul Kastick (drums), and Norris Webb (keyboards), but also some new ones such as Othniel Lewis (keyboards), Robert Browne (guitar) and Othniel Campbell (bass guitar).

For the first time in years, Diana is complimented by a completely new and very enthused set of backing vocalists, AbbyGaye Dallas (JAMAICA), Ifidel Williams (JAMAICA) and Selena Serrano (MIAMI).

ABBYGAYE DALLAS

Abby Gaye Dallas grew up in the city of Portmore, St Catherine and began to develop a love for music at only six (6) year old. While in high school she won various awards for music including: Most Outstanding Vocalist and Performer (2002-2005), and 30 medals from the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (15 gold medals, 10 sliver and 5 bronze medals)- Most Outstanding Soloist Overall, Best Female Pop Singer, and Most Outstanding Junior Vocalist. In 2005 she was awarded a scholarship to attend the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts (Music School) and in 2008 received a scholarship in 2008 from RBTT bank to complete her Diploma in Performance.

She has sung background vocals for Shaggy, dancehall artist Movado, Queen Ifrika, and Tony Rebel. But Abby Gaye’s greatest exposure came in 2006 when she placed second (2nd) in the semi-finals of the Tastees Talent Competition and third (3rd) in the finals. Since then, she has recorded several demos, and has been performing in several live music venues across Kingston.

SELENA SERRANO

It's not everyday that an up and coming, local Miami artist hits the billboard charts with a remix of a popular song. But that's exactly what happened to Selena Serrano when "Sound Killa", a remake done dubplate style of Rihanna's top downloaded hit "Umbrella", debuted at number 12 on the Bubbling under R&B charts. It has been a large underground hit with Jamaican Dancehall selectors internationally and has been garnering prime airtime on major radio stations across the country. Enough so, to land her on the charts as an independent artist. What's even funnier is that she is a Puerto Rican girl doing what most Jamaican artists do.

Singing R&B since she was a toddler, Selena moved to South Florida six years ago with one goal in mind: to take the Miami scene by storm. Born in the Bronx, New York as an only child to Puerto Rican parents, Selena can be considered what most people would call a “Nuyorican”. Moving to Colorado at the age of 8 shaped Selena in a way that would open her mind to a whole new world of cultures and music. As you can imagine, growing up as a Puerto Rican girl in the middle of Denver took quite a bit of adjustment. As a result though, her musical influences and experiences were given an opportunity to flourish in a way that would create her soulful, yet jazz infused style. “Being an only child, I would sit for hours alone in my room listening to the likes of Whitney Houston, Faith Evans, Ella Fitzgerald, Amel Larrieux, Tamia and Mary J. Blige”. Singing in many girl groups along the way, Selena developed a love for songwriting. In order to hone her talent she attended the Denver School of Arts and after graduating high school she made her dream of moving to Miami a reality. “I think Miami is the perfect combination of island culture and climate along with the nightlife of New York. You can’t beat it. See I’m really an island girl at heart”. While songwriting for other budding talents, Selena has original colloborations with nationally and internationally known artists Pitbull, Guru, of Gangstarr, Sizzla and Pressure Buss Pipe. She has also had the opportunity to sing background and reference vocals for recording artists such as Nicole Sherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls, Soca artist Kevin Little, and Scarface, making a name for herself around town. Selena has also opened up for Ziggy Marley and performed alongside Baby Cham and Jr. Reid.

IFIDEL WILLIAMS

Ifidel Williams is a lead male vocalist with the internationally acclaimed ASHE PERFORMING ARTS ENSEMBLE. With over 10 years experience in the performing arts which began in Jamaican based "LITTLE PEOPLE" and the "TEEN PLAYERS CLUB."

Ifidel has made his mark on the Jamaican stage as a SOLOIST, ACTOR AND DANCER, has been background vocalist for the past 2 seasons of the popular television competition "DIGICEL RISING STARS" and has also done extensive background vocals work with EUROPEAN RECORDING ARTIST ‘FLO” and in recent times with INTERNATIONAL RECORDING ARTISTE CHERINE ANDERSON.

I ONLY JUS RECOGNIZED THE REASON Y NO-ONE EVER BELIEVES ME IF and WHEN I SAY "I'M NOT DOING GOOD" I'M USUALLY THE ONE ASKING EVERYONE ELSE IF THEY R GOOD AND IF THEY R NOT I'LL FIX IT... IT'S JUS NEVER SHOWN ON ME (well not unless U live with me 24/7 lol) I'M AN OPTIMIST and TRY 2 SURROUND MYSELF with GOOD VYBZ.

I HAVE A LOT OF PRIDE, not "FOOLISH PRIDE" but PRIDE JUS THE SAME meaning I'M NEVER ASHAMED or AFRAID TO ASK FOR 'HELP' IF I NEED IT but IT WON'T B UNTIL I'VE EXHAUSTED MYSELF TRYING TO HELP MYSELF ON MY OWN.

I'VE NEVER CONTEMPLATED SUICIDE (in some ways I believe it's a cowardly way out) BUT MY EXPERIENCES HAVE MADE ME REALIZE HOW A PERSON COULD THINK THAT WAY ... EVEN FOR A SECOND (so I won't judge). I'M JUST GRATEFUL TO NOT HAVE THAT DISPOSITION :)

THE PAST FIVE YEARS or so OF MY LIFE HAVE BEEN REALLY TOUGH WHICH LED TO "WARRIOR GURL" my NEW CD ... I'VE BEEN TO PLACES AND SEEN SOME THINGS THAT I KNOW WOULD TURN A WEAK HEART INSIDE

OUT. I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A DEBILITATING DISEASE THAT SHOULD HAVE STOPPED ME IN MY TRACKS. I LOST ALMOST EVERYTHING BUT MY LIFE (which is probably the 1 thing U can truly say U own... well at-least your body :)

I HAD SO MANY QUESTIONS NOT ENOUGH ANSWERS. SO MANY CONTRADICTIONS and CONFUSION. AND I WONDERED FOR A LONG TIME "IS THIS THE END, IS THIS IT?" I SEARCHED MY PAST DAILY TO TRY AND REMEMBER IF I EVER DID ANYTHING SO BAD TO DESERVE THIS CRAP ... I WON'T GET INTO ALL THE DETAILS AS IT MAY SOUND LIKE A COMPLAINT and I don't do that LOL

I HAD 2 FORCE MYSELF MINUTE BY MINUTE TO THINK OF THE END RESULT .. THE END RESULT I WANTED and NOT THE PLACE WHERE I WAS BECAUSE THAT ONLY BROUGHT ME LOWER. IT WAS HARD 2 STAY "UP" ALL THE TIME but DEEP DOWN I KNEW IT WASN'T ME ... NOT THE REAL ME. BUT THAT'S LIFE. IT CAN and WILL KNOCK U DOWN BUT U GOTTA GET UP "EVERY TIME"

U MIGHT NOT BELIEVE THAT I DO NOT PLAY AN INSTRUMENT BUT I had BOUGHT A PIANO ABOUT 10yrs AGO and THROUGHOUT MY RUFF TIMES ALL THESE SONGS CAME TO ME AND THE ABILITY TO BRING THEM TO LIGHT ON MY OWN (95% of the music was played by me) ... IT'S NOW AMUSING WHEN SOMEONE ASKS ME "WHAT KEY IS THAT SONG IN?" and I'm Like "HOW SHOULD I KNOW" hahahahahaha I CAN SHOW

U BUT I CAN'T TELL U :) IT'S A GIFT FROM THE UNIVERSE.

SOUNDZ DEEP RIGHT?? and a bit CREEPY ... IT WAS AS IF I WAS POSSESSED. BUT THE MUSIC KEPT ME ALIVE in EVERYWAY. I FELT NO BAD FEELINGS MENTALLY or PHYSICALLY WHEN I WAS IN MY STUDIO ... AND NOW, ME SAYING THE "MIND" IS A POWERFUL THING IS NOT JUST SOMETHING THAT SOUNDZ GOOD TO SAY. I'M WITNESS TO THE VAST POWER IT HOLDS. I USED MY MIND TO GET HEALTHY (without drugs) TO KEEP DOING THE THING I LOVE 2 DO and 2 SHARE WITH U THESE BABIES. MY SONGS R NOT BRAIN SURGERY AND I CAN ONLY GET BETTER, THEY MADE ME FEEL GOOD and "IT'S ALL GOOD WHEN U FEEL GOOD" I HOPE THEY WILL GIVE U THE SAME VIBE WHEN U HEAR THEM :)

I'M NOT RELIGIOUS ATALL BUT CHRISTIANS CALL IT "FAITH" YES ... THAT THING THAT "MOVES MOUNTAINS and "BELIEF" YES...THAT THING THAT CAN KILL or CURE...THAT THING THAT BRINGS THE UNIMAGINABLE TO LIFE. IT IS SO TRUE AND I BELIEVE WORKS FOR ANYONE, NO MATTER THE DENOMINATION CLASS COLOUR SEX or CREED.

HAVE FAITH BEAUTIFUL PPL. PAY NO ATTENTION TO WHATS GOING "GREAT" 4 OTHER PPL. DON'T GET DEPRESSED BY THINGS U CANNOT CHANGE but DREAM YOUR OWN DREAMS AND DREAM BIG. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND THE POWER INSIDE U.

NO MATTER WHAT U R GOING THROUGH AT THIS TIME THAT'S DIFFICULT. THAT'S NOT U , AND DON'T U BELIEVE IT IS!!... STAY HUMBLE and LEARN THE LIFE LESSONS THAT R BEING TAUGHT 2 U AND KNO THAT IT WILL PASS AND WILL ONE DAY BECOME ONLY A MEMORY OF HOW U BECAME "THIS" (stretching out arms) STRONG.

10 days, 14 songs! We did it!

I'm a little late in posting this but I was completely burnt out after Las Vegas. Congratulations are in order of course for the WARRIOR GURL Diana King - mixing 14 songs in 10 days is truly a challenge (I saw for myself).

Having started her own label, ThinkLikeAgirL Music Inc. earlier this month, completing the mixing and mastering of these tracks means that King is a step closer to officially releasing her new material (what I call "her babies") to all her fans. It's been a long time coming and King has certainly had her share (and more) of sleepless nights - writing, recording and producing these songs.

King in one of her latest Facebook updates said, "WARRIOR GURL" is MIXED and MASTERED YEAYYYY!! WE DID IT!! I'm FEELING A LITTLE :((( THAT IT'S OVER BUT IT'S JUS THE BEGINNING OF THE NEXT stage :)) I'm back home and ALREADY WRITING NEW SONGS "Someone Stop Me!!" LOL .GOT TO GET IN-SHAPE NOW for 1st TOUR (Asia) GOT 2 months. CHALLENGE#2"

Diana has already been confirmed for 8 promotional shows at Billboard Live venues in Japan and will be performing in Tokyo on her birthday November 8.

EYYY YA'LL,

WELL, I'M SUPPOSED 2 B KEEPING U UPDATED DAILY "IN DI MIX" but GUESS WHAT "THE WURKS ON MI MAN" lol THIS IS NO JOKE GUYS. THIS IS WHAT I'VE DREAMT OF (Writing and Producing, Owning my Music and Record Label For Artists Without Genre Like Myself) AND IT'S HAPPENING. I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR THE CHANCE but IT'S NOT EASY ATAAAAL.

THE MIXES R GOING GREAT!! WE HAVE 5 SONGS LEFT and 3 DAYS. WE'RE TRYING TO DO 2 SONGS A DAY and MASTER IN BETWEEN (so far so good) ... IT WILL DEF B A RECORD (Mixing 14 Songs in 10 Days) 4 ALL OF US INVOLVED. YEA I 'M A LITTLE FREAKED cuz USUALLY I HAVE MONTHS AND HAVE TIME TO SPARE BEFORE A DEADLINE but I BELIEVE WE CAN DO IT.

MY ENGINEER IS 4 TIME GRAMMY WINNER JAMES "BonZai" CARUSO and HE'D DEF LET ME KNO IF IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE. I'M ACTUALLY EXCITED AT THE THOUGHT OF IT .. IT'S HARD WORK AND A CHALLENGE but WE GOT THIS!! WE R WORKING ALMOST NON STOP, BUT WE'LL B Feeling PROUD and Sleeping Like Babies NEXT WEEK :)

No change in the weather....as a matter of fact it's gotten hotter by about 5 degrees since we've been here!

Day 3 ended at 5am this morning but Jeanz n t-shirt was mixed solid! Diana is a very involved producer (and artist), she's in the studio for the entire session listening, and re-listening. Bonzai and Diana are working together as a unit to get this done - it's really cool to see.

For a few hours today, King will be in the pre-production studio (STUDIO C) doing some additional ProTools® stuff on a few of the songs not yet mixed, while Bonz works on "BOOBAI" a real smooth delicious song that makes a nice theme for all the lovers out there.

Hopefully we can also mix FOREVA YOUNG today as well, that would put us on target to get the 14 tracks mixed and mastered in 10 days - yup this is truly a challenge in every way!

But back to work for me ... check out Diana's video update and the pictures. More to come soon :)

Left studio at about 4:00 am this morning and now it's 1pm and we're back - lemme tell you mixing is a grueling process....very tedious (especially when perfectionists are at the board) lol.
Wearing a short sleeved tee is not an option for Vegas newbies, the heat has not even budged ... yesterday I went to get some supplies and came back into the studio with crispy skin lol.
I keep telling Diana and Bonzai that I'm not going outside ever again.

We just finished breaking bread - salad, scrambled egg whites and a touch of white fish salad. We're feeling energized. Right now we're printing the stems for WARRIOR GURL, after multiple mixes we finally got it!

Today JEANZ N' T-SHIRT is up (in a bout 15 minutes actually)... I really love that song because the message is constant - "BE TRUE TO YOURSELF...MORE OF ME AND LESS OF YOU....2 MYSELF I'VE GOTTA BE TRUE"

The Warrior Gurl track (if you got an opportunity to listen when it was avilable on Reverbnation) speaks volumes to being positive despite life's ups and downs. This track was written when Diana was going through a rough time and decided to write a song that would uplift her as well as others who may be experiencing trying things in their life, As Diana puts it "THE RAIN CAN'T FALL ALL THE TIME, THE SUN MUST COME OUT AND SHINE."

I'm feeling very proud of Diana at this point (well every day more and more) she is, I think representing for many of the women across the industry (forget about genres now). Formerly signed to 2 of the biggest record labels in the world, she has a wealth of experience and she is now utilizing them to create live her dream.

So this WARRIOR GURL's got to get back to work! Stay tuned for more ......
