Fund for Teachers

Purpose: Fund for Teachers provides educators, possessing a broad vision of what it means to teach and learn, the resources needed to pursue self-designed professional learning experiences. FFT grants are used for an unlimited variety of projects; all designed to create enhanced learning environments for teachers, their students and their school communities. We believe that supporting teachers’ active participation in their own professional growth, positively impacts student learning and achievement.

Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:
1. A full-time preK-12th grade teacher, curriculum specialist, curriculum head, Special Education coordinator, media specialist/librarian, or other type of educator who spends at least 50% of your time directly teaching students;
2. Returning to the classroom in the consecutive school year; and
3. Have at least three years’ experience as a pre-K-12th grade teacher at the end of the school year.

Student and substitute teaching do not count towards the three year requirement
As long as the applicant has three years’ experience by the time of their fellowship, Fund for Teachers considers them eligible.

Additionally:
• Eligible teachers may submit one application per grant cycle. Fund for Teachers is interested in your ideas, only. Any indication of borrowed text will disqualify your application. Additionally, previously awarded proposals may not be resubmitted for consideration.
• Administrators may not apply, nor may they act as the partner applicant.
• Previous recipients must wait for 5 years before reapplying.

Amount available per project: Individuals may apply for up to $5,000 and teams up to $10,000

The CenturyLink Clarke M. Williams Foundation

Purpose: The CenturyLink Teachers and Technology Grant Program is a competitive grant open to PreK-12 public and private school teachers in CenturyLink's residential service areas and the following core Corporate locations: Ouachita Parish, LA; Johnson County, KS; St. Louis County, MO; Tulsa County, OK. The program, funded by the CenturyLink Clarke M. Williams Foundation, is designed to help teachers innovatively implement technology in their classrooms to increase student achievement.

Eligibility: The CenturyLink Clarke M. Williams Foundation will consider requests submitted by full-time classroom teachers employed by a public or private school. Previous applicants may apply on an annual basis.

Toshiba America Foundation Grants for Grades 6 – 12

Purpose: Wanted: Classroom Innovators! Toshiba America Foundation accepts applications from teachers who are passionate about making science and mathematics more engaging for their students. All applications must be for project-based learning and requests for computers, laptops or tablets are not considered.

Toshiba America Foundation's mission is to provide teachers with additional funds to support classroom projects. After school, summer projects, and independent study projects are not eligible. The Foundation strongly encourages projects planned and led by individual teachers or teams of teachers for their own classrooms. Many successful grantees have designed projects that tap into the natural curiosity of their students, enable students to frame their own scientific questions, and incorporate the expertise of community partners.

Eligibility: Science and math teachers in public or private (non-profit) schools may apply for grants to support classroom science and math education. Endorsement from a school official is required.

Amount available per project: varies

• Grades 6-12 Grant requests for $5,000 or less are accepted throughout the calendar year.
• Grades 6-12 Grant requests for $5,000 or more are accepted and reviewed twice a year - May 1st and November 1st.

2017-2018 Teaching Tolerance Educator Grants

Purpose: Teaching Tolerance supports educators who embrace and embed anti-bias principles throughout their schools. Grants will further our mission by supporting projects that promote affirming school climates and educate youth to thrive in a diverse democracy. Teaching Tolerance grants will fund two different types of projects: school-level and classroom-level. At the school level, leadership teams will use the grants to improve school climate, reduce hate, support culturally responsive practices and implement anti-bias curricula. At the classroom level, teachers will use the grants to fund programming that promotes empathy and kindness, positive identity development, perspective taking, critical thinking about injustice and collective action. Whether implemented at the school or classroom level, Teaching Tolerance seek to fund projects that culminate in measurable student outcomes and demonstrable student work. Our hope is to build, over time, a network of grantees—educators who are enthusiastic about learning from each other and sharing their experiences with the broader Teaching Tolerance community.

National Art Education Association (NAEA) Grants

Purpose: NAEA helps provide professional development for art educators, classroom supplies for innovative projects, curriculum development for art classrooms, and ground-breaking research in visual arts education. As an independent, philanthropic organization, National Art Education Foundation (NAEF) assists with efforts to represent the teachers of art in America, improve the conditions of teaching art; promote the teaching of art; encourage research and experimentation in art education; sponsor institutes, conferences, and programs on art education; and publish articles, reports, and surveys about art.

Eligibility: grants are made only to NAEA members, including student and retired
members, state/province associations, and recognized affiliates.

Amount available per project: $500 to $10,000

CASE for Kids – City Connections 2017-18

Purpose: CASE for Kids City Connections, funded directly by the City of Houston, supports organizations that address the need for youth services outside the school day. Projects funded by the CASE for Kids City Connections program take place in a variety of locations including schools, community centers, apartment complexes, and churches. Grants are designed to meet individual Houston city council district needs and provide prevention-based programming that addresses gaps in services to youth. Proposed projects must serve K12 children before school, after school, or during weekend hours. The time frame to deliver services for this grant is Oct. 10, 2017 to April 27, 2018 (Awards announced Oct. 3, 2017).

Eligibility: Only the following Humble ISD campuses located in Houston City Council District E are eligible:

BBE, DWE, EGE, FE, GTE, HHE, MBE, SFE, SWE, WCE, WHE, AMS, CMS, KMS, RMS KHS, and KPHS.

The NEA Foundation – Learning & Leadership Grants

Lowe’s Toolbox for Education Grant

Purpose: Lowe’s Small Toolbox for Education grant program is funded by the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation (LCEF), which has supported thousands of grassroots community and school projects in the communities where Lowe’s does business. For more than 65 years, Lowe's has supported the communities we call home. At a time when schools are struggling to support the basic needs of their students, the LCEF recognizes the importance of financial support.

This year LCEF is seeking ways to provide the tools to help educators and parent groups through educational challenges by providing the greatest impact, with basic necessities being the priority.

Fender Music Foundation

Purpose: The Fender Music Foundation awards instruments and equipment to eligible music instruction programs. These items are lightly used, blemished or otherwise imperfect and have been collected from manufacturers and retailers. Descriptions regarding the specific imperfections of each instrument will be available to selected programs.

The organization is currently awarding acoustic guitars, electric guitars, acoustic-electric guitars, bass guitars and the equipment necessary to play these instruments. However, other traditional music instruments are sometimes available. Traditional instruments include string instruments, woodwind instruments, brass instruments, percussion instruments, keyboards and voice. DJ equipment and computers are not available through The Fender Music Foundation.

Eligibility: The Fender Music Foundation awards traditional instruments only to music instruction programs that are part of 501c3 organizations or public schools in the United States. To qualify as a music instruction program, participants must be learning how to make music. Participants can be of any age. However, music appreciation or entertainment programs do not qualify, and the participants cannot be professional or career musicians. A qualified program must fit into one of these four categories:

 In-school music classes, in which the students make music
 After-school music programs that are not run by the school
 Community music programs, which offer music instruction to community members
 Music therapy programs, in which the participants make the music

Amount available per project: up to 8 instruments

NCTM Teacher Professional Development Grants (6-8)

Purpose: The purpose of this grant is to support professional development to improve the competence in the teaching of mathematics of one or more classroom teachers*. This grant is for implementation during the 2018-19 school year. The proposal must delineate the teacher(s)' professional development plan and address how the proposed project will improve the teacher(s)' competence and affect students' learning. While this grant does not fund the purchase of technology, proposals including professional development involving the use of technology to enhance student learning are encouraged. Any acquisition of equipment must support the proposed plan but not be the primary focus of the grant. Recipients must have three or more years of teaching experience in grades 6-8. Proposals must address the following: the professional development plan, how it will enhance the applicant(s)' mathematical knowledge, and the anticipated impact on students' learning. (*The definition of a classroom teacher is an individual who spends half or more of his/her work time teaching in the classroom.)

Eligibility: The applicant must be a current (on or before October 13, 2017) Full Individual or E-Member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM ) or teach at a school with a current (on or before October 13, 2017) NCTM Pre-K-8 school membership and currently teach mathematics in grades 6-8 at least 50 percent of the school day.

NCTM 7-12 Classroom Research Grants

Purpose: The purpose of this grant is to support and encourage classroom-based research in pre-college mathematics education in collaboration with college or university mathematics educators. This grant is for research implementation during the 2018-19 school year. The research must be a collaborative effort involving a college or university mathematics educator (a mathematics education researcher or a teacher of mathematics learning, teaching, or curriculum) and one or more grades 7-12 classroom teachers (individuals who spend half or more of their work time teaching in the classroom).

Emerging Teacher-Leaders in Elementary School Mathematics Grants

Purpose: The purpose of this grant is to increase the breadth and depth of the mathematics content knowledge of one elementary school teacher who has a demonstrated commitment to mathematics teaching and learning. This grant is for the 2018-2019 school year. The applicant must have the support of the school principal in becoming a mathematics teacher-leader within her or his school or district. Only one teacher per school may receive the award. The desired outcome of the funded project is the development of an elementary school mathematics teacher with mathematics content expertise.

Eligibility: The grant applicant must be a current (on or before October 13, 2017) Full Individual or E-Member of NCTM or teach at a school with a current (on or before October 13, 2017) NCTM Pre-K-8 school membership . The applicant must (1) be a classroom (elementary school) teacher* with at least three years of experience and (2) have mathematics as a regular teaching responsibility. (*The definition of a classroom teacher is an individual who spends half or more of his/her work time teaching in the classroom; the individual could be a math teacher who meets the classroom requirement.)

Target Field Trip Grant

Each year, Target supports teachers across the country, providing small, one-time grants to help fund the out-of-class learning experiences. Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries

Purpose: The mission of the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries is to provide funds to our Nation’s neediest schools so they can extend, update, and diversify the book and print collections in their libraries with the goal of encouraging students to develop a love of reading and learning.

• are established schools (in operation for a minimum of one (1) year;
• with economic need (85% of the school’s student population must qualify for free/reduced lunch);

AAUW (formerly American Association of University Women)

Purpose: The Community Action Grants Program provides funds for innovative programs or non-degree research projects that promote education and equality for women and girls. Special consideration is given to projects focused on kindergarten through grade 12 and community college girls’ and women’s achievement in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics, and to those projects that seek community partners such as local schools or school districts, businesses, and other community-based organizations.

One-year grants fund community-based projects that include clearly defined activities promoting education and equality for women and girls with direct community or public impact. Two-year grants provide start-up funds for new projects that address local community needs and develop girls’ sense of efficacy through leadership, advocacy, or training opportunities.

Eligibility: Eligible applicants are individuals, AAUW branches and AAUW state organizations, and local community-based nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Funding supports project-related expense categories including, but not limited to, advertising; office supplies; professional fees and honoraria for speakers; equipment purchases; transportation; meals, food, beverages, or lodging for camps or related activities. Funds are not available for salaries, tuition, or scholarships.

Amount available per project: One-year awards range from $2,000 to $7,000, and two-year awards range from $5,000 to $10,000.

SeaWorld and Busch Gardens Conservation Fund

Purpose: The SeaWorld and Busch Gardens Conservation Fund (SWBGCF) makes grants in four priority areas: conservation education, species research, habitat protection, and animal rescue and rehabilitation.

Within the area of conservation education, funding priorities include the following:

Nature deficit disorder: encouraging youth to spend time outdoors connecting with nature, and understanding the value of nature and mechanisms for sustainability.
Leadership development: identifying potential conservation leaders and developing their leadership skills and knowledge.

Eligibility: Eligible applicants are 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations; schools, etc. The fund works with organizations to support programs that are science-based, solution-driven, and community-oriented. Each applicants is required to create a login and the application must be completed online.

Amount available per project: Awards range from $5,000 to $25,000.

Houston Arts Alliance – Touring & Neighborhood Arts Program

Purpose: To assist arts and cultural organizations throughout Harris County, Houston Arts Alliance (HAA) offers support through its Touring and Neighborhood Arts Program (TNAP) Grant category. These grants assist 501(c)3 nonprofit arts and cultural organizations in providing arts programming—primarily outside the City of Houston—and within Harris County. Funded by Harris County and the Texas Commission on the Arts, TNAP seeks to support the presentation and touring of arts/cultural programs with an emphasis on small and mid-size organizations.

Amount available per project: Up to $5000.00

CenturyLink Teachers and Technology Grants

Purpose: Funded by CenturyLink’s Clarke M. Williams, the Teacher’s and Technology program provides classroom grants to help fund projects that advance student success through innovative use of technology. Schools do not have to be a CenturyLink customer to apply but must be located in a CenturyLink service area where CenturyLink provides residential phone service. Grant winners will be announced between April 1 - May 15, 2017.

Eligibility: Full-time private and public school teachers are eligible

Amount available per project: Grant awards range from $500. – $5000.

Directpackages.com Teacher Grants

Purpose: The way we learn and experience things is ever changing. As technology rapidly introduces and expedites new ways of learning, classrooms often find it difficult to keep up. Directpackages.com understands the importance of technology as a tool for learning and entertainment, and therefore wishes to present three teachers each with a $1,000 grant to spend on classroom technology.

In 400-500 words write about the impact new classroom technology could have for you and your students. The top three submissions featuring the most innovative and beneficial use for classroom technology will be awarded $1,000 to spend on new technology for their classroom!

So here's your prompt: Write about what new technology would mean to your classroom and how you would use the grant to address a learning challenge. Ideas for how technology will facilitate a more constructive learning environment will vary, but all submissions should include:

• An observed learning challenge that is amplified by inadequate technology.
• The specific technology or technologies you plan to implement.
• How this technology will support your teaching efforts.
• The anticipated impact improved technology will have on your students.

Eligibility: Applicants must be employed full-time as a Kindergarten-12th grade teacher at an elementary school, middle school, or high school in the United States. Applicants must also intend to continue teaching throughout the 2016-2017 school year. All applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent legal residents of the United States.

Amount available per project: $1000 grant in the form of a Visa Reward Card

Fund for Teachers

Purpose: Fund for Teachers awards summer fellowship grants to pre-K-12 grade teachers to pursue self-designed professional learning. Teachers decide what they want to learn and where they want to learn it. Their odysseys take them all over the world—as scientists, researchers, artists and agents of change—and they return to their classrooms with new ideas that transform student learning and achievement.

The 2017 application cycle opens up on October 1, 2016!

Eligibility: Full-time preK-12th grade teachers:
• Spending at least 50% of their work week in direct classroom instruction
• Returning to the classroom in the consecutive school year
• With at least three years experience as a preK-12th grade teacher

Amount available per project: Individuals may apply for up to $5,000 and teams may apply for up to $10,000

CPAs Helping Schools Program

Purpose: Established in 1991, the CPAs Helping Schools program encourages CPAs to become actively involved with the education of Texas youth. Dedicated to improving the quality and scope of education Pre-K through grade 12, this initiative offers Houston CPA Society members an opportunity to get actively involved in support of their local schools. Funding requests should be for the educational benefit of the students. This may include, but is not limited to, books, educational materials and equipment, supplies, and school uniforms. Other previously funded programs include technology, math labs, established reading courses, fine arts programs, after-school activities, science labs, and much more.

Eligibility: Humble ISD Campuses

Amount available per project: up to $5,000.00
