As the lake is located in the neighborhood of the Jamsil-dong area of Songpa-gu, the Seokchon Lake is also known as “Songpa Naru Park.”

In its ideal harmony of lake and park, Seokchon Lake is divided into two parts: the east and west lakes. While the Magic Island of Lotte World, a typical theme park in Seoul, is in the vicinity of the west lake, surrounding areas of the east lake is popular among neighbors for its jogging courses, walks as well as a rest place for office workers nearby.

When the city government embarked on the Hangang River Redevelopment Project in 1961, the river was filled up with earth but a part of the river was left unfilled. And then, in 1971, the unfilled water turned the lake, of which total area of 217,850㎡ with 737 tons of freshwater.

In early 1980s the lakeside area was developed into a park; following this, the lake was divided into the east and west lakes flowing along newly opened Songpadaero Road. With an ideal harmony of the lake and park and its jogging course along with the promenade, the Seokchon Lake has become one of most favored rest areas for the people in neighborhood.

Magic Island

The Magic Island is an artificial island floating on the west lake, Songpa Naru Park. The island is connected to the Lotte World Adventure, a theme park, with a monorail car and sky bridge. Ogeum Park

In 1990, Ogeum Park was formed on a small hill, measuring 200 meters above sea level, without having the genuine beauty of the hill damaged. There are a walk, along which is filled with flowers and trees, and many sporting facilities such as a badminton court, tennis court and various exercise equipments for use.

In 2000, a botanical garden was open along both sides of the sloped walk of the park. With about 30 kinds of wild flowers, including lily on the valley, bellflower, plantain lily and lychnis, as well as 20 indigenous trees, this children’s beloved garden is open for free of charge.

Installed on both side of Banpo grand bridge in Banpo Hangang Park that is formed in Hangang Renaissance Project, Fountain of Moonlight and Rainbow is 1,140m(570m for upper and lower stream respectively) in total length, being registered in the Guinness Book of World Association as the longest over-bridge fountain in 2008. It offers various things to see and enjoy as if it were a seven-color rainbow, rendering a beautiful scenery whenever it belches out water streams. There are sports facilities such as Waterdrop Playground, In-line Hub, football field, and basketball field on the Moonlight Square, where Hangang Rainbow Festival or Citizens' Cultural Ground is held every weekend.

Situated in the center of Sejongno (street), the Gwanghwamun Square is a public square, connecting the Sejongno intersection with Cheonggye Plaza from Gwanghwamun in Jongno-gu District, Seoul.

Sejongno, once called Yukjo Street in the Joseon Dynasty, used to be the center of politics and administration back then but until recently, the street had been covered with asphalt for motorists only. Thus, the city government restored Sejongno to the previous Yukjo Street under the Gwanghwamun Restoration Project, turning it to a space for pedestrians where the people can overlook magnificent views around Gyeongbokgung Palace and Bugaksan Mountain. This reconstruction project had lasted for 15 months and eventually, Gwanghwamun Square was opened to the citizens on 1 August 2009.
