Decorated Doorway

The doorway between the dining room and foyer was covered in lights, garlands and ornaments. I had to stop just to admire all individual items in the arrangement. It was one of the first items visible from the front door.

Dining Bears

In the Dining Room bears were all seated for big feast. Around the room were snow scenes with moving bears. The mantle was snowflake decorations.

Foyer

The decorated foyer was an intersection for the dining room, living room, kitchen and stairs. I photographed the space from the front door and from the dining room. A large bear, wearing a king's robe, sat in a corner to the right in front of a mirror.

Living Room at Night

A rotating Christmas tree with lights captured my eye in the living room. It slowly
revolved above Christmas presents. It was surrounded by bears - some moving and some not moving.

Foyer and Up the Stairs

Before going up the stairs photographed animated bears in the foyer. From the second floor I photographed the stairs going up and the stairs going down. The lights
were dimmed.

Italian Bedroom at Night

Lamps illuminated the Italian themed bedroom. Goldilocks and the three bears hadn't moved since earlier in the day. The display cases had their own lights.

Roman Bathroom

The light was too dim in the Roman bathroom, so I was forced to use a flash. The daylight photo was much better. Still, it was fun to see the bears and the bubbles.

Master Bedroom

The master bedroom was dimly lit so the animated bears and Christmas lights could be appreciated. I chose not to use a flash on these shots. The number of tours had slowed.

Chrome and Glass Bathroom

Papa Bear was still taking a shower. It was harder to see everything without sunlight. There were some overhead lights.

Back to the Sherlock Holmes Study

From the back stairwell I entered the Sherlock Holmes Study. It was brightly illuminated. I took some close up and overall shots while I was there.

Back Stairs and Studio

With a brief visit to an artist's studio off the back stairwell, I climbed the stairs to take shots of the bear posters on the walls. They were easier to see without the glare of sunlight.

Busy in the Kitchen

From the den I peeked inside the kitchen to see what goodies were being made. Bears in chef hats were busy making an assortment of sweets. The kitchen island was covered from one end to the other.

Christmas Tree under the Big Top

The den was illuminated solely by a Christmas tree. Since I had already taken flash photos there, I limited myself to just one more. Then I went up the back stairwell.

Lights Out Back

There were not as many lights at the back of the house. The carport lights disco lights were still going. Some oversized Christmas bulbs outlined the edges of the house.

There's not getting around it. Christmas lights should be viewed at night. So here's a second trip through the Teddy Bear House. Sure, some things were repeated. But I hope you enjoy the view just the same.

Christmas at the Teddy Bear House

For a number of years now, Ricky A. Lenart has enjoyed decorating his house, inside and out, for Christmas. His home, located behind Latter Library on Dufossat Street in Uptown, New Orleans, Louisiana, turned 100 years old in 2011. Each year his Christmas display has grown more and more elaborate. These photos were taken on a daytime tour of the house. I will post photos from a night time tour as well.

Lawn Teddy Bears

The front lawn included teddy bear decorations set against a lines of bushes and garden beds. I noticed some new bears I hadn't seen before. Several of the displays depicted bears at play.

Porch Teddy Bears

Approaching the front door I was greeted by a large committee of teddy bears huddled under two small windows. A large Christmas wreath hung above the front door. Two bears, each at a far corner of the porch waved flags from atop drums.

It's Christmas in the Living Room!

A tree filled with teddy bear ornaments slowly turned in the middle of the living room. Teddy bears were strewn along along the baseboards and on top of the furniture. The room was full of reds, greens and golds brightly illuminated by the afternoon sun.

Teddy Bears Dining

The second room on the tour was the dining room. A table in the middle included seated teddy bears ready to have a Christmas feast. The table was covered with place settings and decorations.

Teddy Bear Snow Scenes

The dining room had numerous moving bears of all shapes and sizes. I slowly walked around trying to decide what to photograph next. Many of the bears stood in snow making snowballs.

Teddy Bears in the Foyer

Upon entering the teddy bear house, I saw these teddy bears in the foyer. To the left was a full length portrait of the owner, Ricky A. Lenart. In the painting he was wearing his King James costume for The Armenius Ball in 2009.

Napoleon Bathroom

Under the stairs was the Napoleon bathroom. The walls were covered in black marble. The sink involved a gold bowl with handles and faucet above it. Small busts rested on a small shelf.

Stairwell Bears

The stairwell, that lead to the third floor, was lined with teddy bears. Beginning with the second floor, the walls were covered with art the owner has collected from artist friends and other local artists. I took some wide angle shots from the third floor.

Attic Teddy Bears

The third floor attic space included glass cases full of teddy bears and teddy bear related objects. Also, there were teddy bears hanging from the ceiling - in addition to track lights. It was difficult to take in all the bears at once.
