Vegetables at Porquerolles

2018-06-22T16:39:00.000+02:00

Looong time no publish,

Just a vegetable collection I did in Porquerolles a few days back...

Meditating on vegetables was fascinating!
Eating them later is a joy (you eat them after an intimate research)

And the details of them is infinite! I had to decide where to stop, since everywhere I look I see more details...

Enjoy.

Eye to Eye, I to I (part 2)

Eye contact, I contact

2015-12-20T23:01:00.001+01:00

Got back from an eye contact event in the Luxemburg garden.

What I got in my heart stays in my heart.

The drawings however are shareable.

At peace, Matisse in Nice

2015-12-01T20:55:00.001+01:00

Yesterday I visited the Matisse museum at Nice.

So heart-filling...

Slow drawing of fast food

2015-10-27T04:51:00.001+01:00

I have very strict opinions, which I often change...

I used to consider drawing with a tablet as cheating, but last few months I am converted.

The ease of changing materials, the screen-size constraint

The ability to draw white on black...

Here's to my first digital post!

---

I started looking at Mcdonald's paper bags and found them fascinating...

The flat surfaces, a strong architectural statements.

My first drawing (in what turned out to be a series), the range of browns, with the texture of prints. the soft-bordered thick lines. and the thin yellow M.

Second one, I don't like this one, since black lines don't exist where I come from, still - I love to publish what I don't love. (and I do like the right side with the folds)

...

Now we're getting somewhere! I like the unbalanced structure, the thin writing on the flat surfaces, and the wrapped print. also repetitions... I like repetitions... (did I say that already?)

I love the next one... so many details to draw, the tear-out top, the small tear near the handle, the game of shadows, the detailed print...

The cup is just a bonus, shouldn't have drawn it, but now it is a part of the drawing.

I'm extremely proud of the next one...

Had a salad (who needs a knife for a salad?!) and spend 30 minutes (or closer to eternity...) of meditation drawing the knife and bag, destroying all beliefs aside and simply looking.

Reflections (unlike shadows) dance oh-so-quickly when you move your head. that you have to treat them as pixies... look at them from the side of your eye...

Next,

The big one is too transparent, but the rest are very interesting, especially the Black&White, which brings me to...

...This one. the perfect abstraction!

I am so happy with it, that it closed my need to draw bags for a while.

Another attempt in fork&knife drawing,

Thistime, beforeIeat mysalad.

Though I like this one, I've learnt that I shouldn't draw a pattern unless I am patient enough to deal with it...

Lots of things I don't like here, but the multi-colors of the reflections compensate for it all...

And two last ones...

A ball of fruit in Romania:

And a very significant (lifechanger? I guess I'll have to wait and see...) takeaway lunch, closer to home.

- As always, till nextime!

Stainless steel porcelain - Israeli magic in Paris

2014-06-06T12:34:00.002+02:00

Yesterday evening I saw Rona Kenan in Paris.

I adore her presence, but never see her live, so I decided not to draw this time,
Haa!

The place was standing only, which set me vibrating - I have place to move! I gotta draw!!
Since I had no materials I asked the place for some paper, all they had was a fanzine, so be it...
Than I remembered I adopted an art auction catalog from a doctor's office...

She was wonderful, greatly supported by the fantastic Eran Weitz, who (just like Joe Pass and Ella) was a great support and managed to contain and complete her.

More concert details: here

This is my attempt to catch yesterday's wind in a bag.

A few notes:
- There was Paco Ibanies as well for two songs!
- Some drawings are bi-colored - I drew them with both hands same time.

Till Nextime!

Staying late with a scanner and two drawings I never scanned.
One was chasing a pigeon in the park with Eliza & Céline,
Other was chasing a fruitball alone, but with great company.

Have a go at it...

This post is a birthday present to Shir Shvadron, the man who taught me how to look, for which I am eternally grateful....

In the continuous effort to take you places, this time I take you frontrowcenter to a Babx concert,

I don't know much about him, except that his concert (with Frédéric Jean on drums and Julien Lefevre on cello) was exceptionally great, sweating, whispering, feeling, and reworking poems of Tom Waits, Budler (among others)

I mainly listened and drew (with really noisy markers ...)

2014-03-14T23:34:00.001+01:00

Yesterday I had a cleanup attack,

Here are some works (or plays) I found.

A drawing from a model session. I like the intensity of the face ines, and the dissolving of the shoulders into nothing.

Back of painting @ Scott's place

This is a blurry photo of a photocopy of a drawing and a transparency to the next page of a chair.
After so many filters, is there still a chair there?

Shadow of a chair and its reflection at the Medici fountain

This is a leaflet to a dance I didn't attend, but I adore the art work
When the world was more naive, Israel was often described by Israelis as a woman.
This is a tribute to an Israeli author from way back then.

Another diptich (see above)

From one of the funnest sessions, a rock singuitarist striking a chord.

Drawn with two acrilic-dipped fingers while dancing.

That reminds me, I didn't submit new Metro drawings in ages!

RER A meets B

I adore this one, collage done at the Matisse hall in the modern art French museum.
Francois and Nina drawing.

redblack&blue (with some green)

At an agile conference in France, arrived early before my session, and watched tons of free ducks and geese roaming the place

Just before Foi-Gras.

See you next Spring cleanup.

Bus watching in the capital P

2014-03-06T00:24:00.003+01:00

Did you ever stand near a bus station so long, that when the bus arrived you don't know since when you are there... days? weeks?

That you don't remember where you wanted to go, and whether you really did.

That you are not even sure that the person who started standing there is still you.

I guess you didn't.

Neither did I.

It's a lame metaphor, but that's a little how I feel when doing this post.

I'm not the person who started this blog, and probably not even the person that published the (one before) last post.

Lots of drawings piled up on my desk and all around in the past few months, so I'll just post some off the top of the deck.

First three are from a music-drawing session we had a few weeks back:

Four different musical pieces on one sheet

koyaanisqatsi

Goldberg Variations - G. Gould

Drawing music @Natasha's

Next two are from this week's session at the Louvre

Art spectators upwards and downwards

And the next one is very special, most of the drawings I participate in are drawn not just by me, but with other group members, and this one is a shared work by Francois and me, idea started from drawing movement, so we stretch fast two-three lines of the movement and draw around them. I sketched some and asked him to continue, and realized how complimentary our approaches are.

I am running hectic all over the place, not closing any space, dispersing fast impressions with no breath, while he occupies space, defines clear boundaries and distributes weights and colors.

Anyway - I adore this one, and I really enjoy group-drawing.

And this is a gift I received from Francois - a portrait of both of us in Palais Tokyo.

Till nextime! (whenever she wll be...)

Last I saw Lou Reed

2013-11-03T21:12:00.001+01:00

Been a long time since I wrote.

Most of the times I try to find a title that will amuse me, this one is an exception.

Last time I saw the Velvet-Underground was today, while driving home I put the VU double live (titled live MCMXCIII), and saw them all, saw how Lou Reed can't help but sing around the music and rhythm of Venus in furs , how Maureen Tucker bears her big soul in her small voice singing After hours, how John Cale's waits so much till dropping his huge voice in All tomorrow's parties (Ok, I didn't see Sterling Morrison..., but did see Nico...)

And the love-hate energy of Lou-John, no doubt who leads the show, no doubt where is the fight, the huge love-hate relationship, but I guess I was really just driving and imagining...

And I really saw Lou Reed twice, both times were in Paris, both times I came for Laurie, and I guess he did too.

First time, a double concert of Lou and Laurie with a surprize guest - John Zorn, from which I remember their Pale Blue Eyes version, he was heavy, tired, and had an unforgettable presence of the real Godfather of all music that made me in my youth.

Second time, this year, an intimate evening with Laurie Anderson, where he turned up, assisted to stage to read a half hour long Eulogy for his college professor - Delmore Schwarts.

The evening before, the Laurie Anderson performance started with a beautiful violin, disturbed by horrible static noise, she smiled, apologised to the audience, and said she will fix it and restart in a minute,

When he read his poem on that evening, the pages were mixed, and lord, was he angry... shouted at the poor I-don't-remember-who who was responsible that his papers are not in the right order, and left in rage, only to come back ten minutes later after the poem was reprinted,

I remember the sense of urgency in his reading, and in Laurie's performance and talk, and I knew it is the last chance to see him.

Compassion and anger, that's what the two brought, both exact and strong.

I made two drawings of him reading, in the dark, while listening to him, accompanies by teh most delicate sounds by Laurie, while he read the Eulogie.

Can't find teh drawings now, will attache them when I do,

I know he won't read it, and neither will she, but just wanted to say my private goodbye,

Medici Meditation

2013-06-17T12:35:00.001+02:00

We went to the Medici fountain today.

Staring at the still water is good for you, they say.

Here is what I brought back...

Sleeping at the Pasteur Metro

2013-05-04T13:23:00.000+02:00

I was in a rush from somewhere to somewhere, and then saw this guy sleeping beside the chairs in the Metro station.

It looked so graphic, the black leather and pants with the white hands tucked in between his legs for warmth, alongside the white teeth of the chairs in the black mouth of the huge ad.

His horizontal position vs. the chairs that invite a vertical one.

While I drew him, I had to take long breaths, since Metros passed in both directions between us.

No one sat on the chairs while he was there.

A security guard gently woke him up, and left, he woke up, opened his eyes, looked around, lay in the same position for two more minutes, and left (there was a Metro passing, I didn't see where he want).

When he disappeared, the newly-arriving passengers sat in the chairs...

Emotion in motion

2013-04-26T19:04:00.004+02:00

Working with a group brings joyful challenges...
While I am at ease with drawing the outside, others are masters of drawing the inside.

Here are some samples of my attempts of these two sessions... (and other's!)

First one - drawing music:
Everyone brought a song, and we drew the song while hearing it.
Note: below each drawing - the link will take you to the music!
Note#2: You can visit a fellow drawer with same songs from same session here.

Fever Ray - Keep the streets empty for me.

A song sang by Mari,
A song of joy by a tribe in the rainforest.
drawing with eyes closed.
(this is not it)

Amon Tobin - Lighthouse

Wine and Roses (not the right music in the link,..)

Laurie Anderson - Sweaters

Eugene Chadbourne - Georgia in a Jug (but the link is different...)

Glenn Miller - String of pearls

Mika - Take it easy

Barry Sacharof - Lev Shalem (a whole heart)

Ori Chiraya

WovenHand - to make a ring

Joe Jackson - five guys names Moe take 1

Joe Jackson - five guys names Moe take 2

Second one: Feelings
Note: see Florina's drawing here.
for the following exercise, we drew some feelings/ sensations

The is a saying in hebrew (though the translation is lame): Create your own teachers.
I recently did, I aquired two great teachers, one for touching colors, and one for touching the abstract.

Here are some works inspired by the first (I'll keep the second for nextime)..

A visit to St. Chapelle, with its color-filled stained glass windows.

A cold day, inside the remains of the church, with huge windows, I was looking for a huge quiet and free place, but wound up in a small crowded place with admission fees.

In any case, the colors were stunning!

I loved this photo, for the phisical presence of the paper.

Two markers at teh same hand.

And a sketch to finish off

Next Session, at the Cafeteria of Galerie Lafayette.

And this one truely surprised me... I let go the pencil and used just colors, and suddenly felt very Duffy-ish as the city-scape unravelled.

After doing the bottom half, I had to risk it, so I spilled random spots on top. I am really happy with this one!

Paris from the Galeries La Fayette cafeteria (we bought nothing!:)

Paris from the Galeries La Fayette rooftop (two weeks later)

Visiting La-Geode

At the bottom you can see two fellow drawers

Echos of a perfect day (or, twisting by the pool)

2013-03-18T18:58:00.000+01:00

Two days ago, took the two kids to the pool,

Was a perfect day, kids fell, got bruised, cried, caught artificial waves, did all the slides, ate junk food, and laughed at their old-man.

I had the time to not think, listen, swim, let myself be hit by strong jets, saunify my soul, all of which took about 10 minutes... (naa... a few hours...)

After that, I took some paper from the cafeteria (where we left some small fortune), borrowed a tray and a pen, and took some shots until the pen broke (details later...)

First placemat drawing

Oh, and I forgot... I like how the bag before her is drawn with its two zippers...

When drawing the last one, the pen broke, and I used the ink to continue it (until it became too messy)
To dry it off, I covered it with another place-mat, and I like how the other came to be...

To finish off, some drawings from the Victor-Hugo house, yesterday.

Drawing blurred photos exhibit with only black

Mol-Hier

2013-03-07T20:09:00.000+01:00

About two weeks ago I saw a french play by Moliere - Le Bourgeois gentilhomme

An incredible theater in Versailles, by a company that is super professional.

I had the fortune to sit front-raw center.

As entertaining as it is, hearing Moliere French after a long day's work is not a trivial thing for me.

But lady luck was cruel to the players to leave a sketchpad and some drawing material in my bag, so I passed the evening sketching.

The experience is a bit like hearing great jazz musicians performing standards you don't know, you enjoy their joy and craftsmanship, even though the actual words are sometimes wasted on you.

Later, talking to the group's manager, he said they were wandering was I was doing there, and that luckily it was an easy play, so they were amused.

Nextime I'll restrain myself, still, here is this time's booty...

Enjoy...
