Cinemark Summer $1 Kid Movies

The Summer Movie Clubhouse is a ten-week program of recently released G and PG films for kids. Day, times and weeks of the series are determined by the local theatre. A full list of participating theatres is listed at Cinemark.com.

The cost is $1 per person per movie at the door the morning of the program. A ten-week series punch card is available at the theatre box office or online at Cinemark.com for $5, while supplies last.

Drive-ins

We frequently take the kids to the drive-ins in the summer. Luckily the town , I work in has 2! One has 2 screens, while the other has just one screen. I remember going to drive-ins as a child in Michigan and love sharing these memories with my children!

When my daughter was an infant, we went to the drive in and folded down the back seats of the van and placed a pack and play back there, this way she could sleep comfortably while we were watching the movie! Now the kids are older, we just fold down the seats of the SUV or Van and they watch the first movie, then we put sleeping bags in the back end and they sleep during the 2nd. It is quiet comfortable! The kids have a blast! They ended up sleeping until it was time to leave! Plus mommy and daddy get to see some movies they have been wanting too!

I did some searching to help the rest of you find a drive-in! Going rates are $5-$7 an adult for 2 movies. Kid rates seemed to be $1 for ages 6-12! Instead of going out to dinner and then dropping $10 a ticket at a regular theater to see one move, we had a fun cheap night. Here are some ways to make it fun and frugal:

Take a cooler with your sodas and water bottles
Pick up a $5 Little Caesars pizza or head to CiCi's pizza and get 3 carry-out pizzas for $9.99!
Pick up some Dollar Store candy!
Pop your own popcorn and place it in a brown paper bag and bring with you

We normally pick up 3 CiCi pizzas for $9.99 and then stop at Speedway gas station and got 2 fountain drinks for $.99 each and the kids got frozen slushes for $.99 each! We picked up 2 boxes of candy at the store for $1 each and then brought in popcorn.
Break down of cost for dinner and a movie for 4:
$16 for pizza, drink and candy
$11 for 2 movies for 4 of us
Final price= $27 for a family for 4 for dinner and 2 movies!!!

Totally frugal and memory lasting!!!

Safe Haven Movie #Review

Ever feel like starting over? Sometimes you don’t have to make drastic life changes to feel good about yourself.

Star Julianne Hough’s latest film Safe Haven (Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment), which arrives in stores on Blu-ray, DVD and DHD May 7, follows the story of a woman who made drastic changes in an effort to start over. Safe Haven is based on the novel by best-selling author Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook).

Hough plays Katie, a woman moves to Southport, North Carolina and sparks the interest of the locals, especially Alex (Josh Duhamel), a handsome widower. Part of Katie’s healing process involves moving into a small house and remodeling it. Painting her new home provides her with much needed joy and catharsis, as well as a place to call her own.

My Thoughts: I read A LOT! So, I am always excited when a book I love is released on film. More times then not, I am disappointed as the movie did not stay true to the book. I was pleasantly surprised that this was one of those films that really did attempt to follow the book! Of course there are a few things that are different, but it is expected!

If you are looking for a great chic-flick to curl up to, then this is your movie. It has romance, drama and bits of comedy intertwined. Without giving to much away the story follows Katie, who is trying to escape an abusive relationship and start a new life when she meets Alex. Alex himself is trying to still come to terms with the loss of his wife and raising two kids alone. Sparks fly between the two, but then things take a turn for the worse when someone from Katie's past comes back. You will need to check out the film to find out more!

Coppertone Launches Program to Help Protect Children in Schools

Did you know that currently, school policies affecting sunscreen usage vary from state to state and potentially even within school districts?

I know when my kids have field day, we can only apply sunscreen in the morning before the bus and then if we as parents go to field day and apply sunscreen later! Although you may be applying sunscreen to your child before they get on the school bus, ideally it should be reapplied by the time a midday recess begins, to avoid potentially risking unsafe sun exposure and sunburns.

Today, Coppertone is launching the Making the Sunscreen Grade program, which educates parents with tools and information on how to help protect their children from the sun and enables them to start a conversation with their schools to make sun protection a priority during the school day.

As part of the program, Coppertone is offering parents tips they can use to make sun protection important in school and year-round. Below are a few examples:

Ask your school administrator for more information on your district’s policy around sunscreen and what (if any) sun protection methods are permitted. Policies can differ, so you may want to ask if sunscreen, hats or sunglasses are allowed during outdoor activities and if any permission is necessary.
Any child who plays sports is inevitably going to spend a lot of time in the sun. But you can minimize your child’s sun exposure to UV rays by asking coaches to provide shade for sidelined players and check that water is readily available to prevent dehydration.
Sun sense begins at home. Dress your kids in sun-protective clothing and make sunscreen application part of your morning ritual before your kids go outside and go to school.

My Interview with Bella Thorne from Disney Channel’s hit television series “Shake It Up”

Recently I was able to ask Bella Thorne some questions! Bella is one of the starts on the Disney Channel’s hit television series “Shake It Up”. Bella Thorne and Zendaya (currently seen on ABC’s "Dancing with the Stars" and is one of the youngest contestants to compete), kick off the all-new Shake It Up: I <3 dance="" u=""> soundtrack, from Walt Disney Records. The collection of 12 dance tracks is featured on the third season of the hit show.

What song on the SIU album are you most proud of? I am most proud of Blow the System because it was a solo song and had a cool dub step vibe. I am also very fond of Contagious Love.

Did you contribute to any of the songs on the SIU album? If so, what was your inspiration? I did not write any songs on the album just performed them.

As a mom of a little girl who loves to sing and dance at home, how can I get her to not be so shy and come out of her shell on the dance floor at the school and other places? To help her break her shyness, start at home with her closest relatives and then add others. Eventually, she will get used to performing in front of crowds. Always remind her to have fun and really love her performance. Encourage her with praise and remind her that you think she is a STAR! You will build her confidence. This is how I became less shy.

How do you handle being a role model for children? Although I feel that children's real guidance comes form there home and parents, I do take my actions seriously knowing younger children do look to me to set an example. I am cautious how I carry myself and those that I hang out with on a personal level. I try and encourage kids to believe in themselves and how special they are. It is also very important for me to set an example as far as being kind and helping others. I wish to encourage kids to get involved in their community at a young age.

What is next for you? We have seen you sing, dance, appear in your own series and even TV commercials! I am off to South Africa to work as Adam Sandler's daughter in a new Warner Bros feature film called Blended. Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler are a joy to be around and I am very much looking forward to my work with them on this project. It is a fun romantic comedy.

The game was developed by brothers Chris (26) and Tyler (24) Parkinson of Newark, Ohio, who approached the company several months ago with an idea and a demo. The brothers, who were raised on a Utica, Ohio dairy farm, combined their artistic and coding skills to bring their childhood imaginations to life.

“Herd of Heroes offered us an ideal opportunity to help connect our 104-year-old brand to the consumers of today and tomorrow,” explained Dairy Enterprises Inc. Marketing Services Manager Jerry Cosentino. “The game will increase our brand’s visibility well outside our current market and create new opportunities for our products.”

As one might expect, each superhero character has a backstory and special skill for fighting evil. Dozer was hit by a runaway semi-truck hauling a shipment of whole milk. The resulting splash gave the bovine the power of unbreakable bones and the strength of 1,000 bulls. Joined by the speed of Hooved Justice, the golden lasso of Lady Lasso, Bullseye's bell arrows, and the Chocolate Crusader's skills in cow-fu, the herd is ready to save the planet's whole milk supply from Dr. Fizz. But will they stop him in time?
