Congratulations to the Baltimore Ravens and their fans! Super Bowl XLVII ended up being an excellent game. Super Bowl XLVII Rooting Interest; Ravens or 49ers?

2013-01-29T21:15:00.000-08:00

San Francisco 49ers Armchair QB

Baltimore Ravens Armchair QB

I'm a Pittsburgh Steelers' fan. I wasn't born in the 'burgh, but I grew up in Allegheny County along the Allegheny River, some 20 miles from Three Rivers Stadium. My Father-In-Law was an eyewitness to the Immaculate Reception. Ernie Holmes once knocked the wind out of me with a well placed backhand, back in the day. For whatever it's worth, I was thinking about my allegiance to the team, and these couple of things immediately came to mind. Yeah, I guess in today' Twitter vernacular, you could say I'm *'Burgh Verified*.

In any event, I'm having a bit of a problem deciding who I'm rooting for on Super Bowl Sunday. Years ago there was never really much debate, it was pretty simple. You rooted for the AFC representative, at least I did. Not sure if this is because the following week I'd be rooting for the AFC All Pros in the Pro Bowl, but I'm sure that had something to do with it.

No, for the last several years, maybe the last decade (or so), my Super Bowl rooting rationale has been different. Instead of an allegiance to the American Football Conference, I find myself rooting against teams like the New England Patriots. In my mind, the Pat's in particular have infringed on the Steelers singular claim on an entire decade, i.e., "The Team of the Seventies", have been nearly perfect, and annoyingly smug.

So, with the loyalty to the AFC out of the window, who will it be? Ravens or 49ers? This Sunday the San Francisco 49ers are positioned to share a place in history with the Steelers as the only other franchise to win a sixth Lombardi trophy. Naturally, with that kind of history looming on the horizon, you would naturally think that I would get onboard with the Baltimore Ravens. But really, the Ravens? Never. Would ANY self respecting Steelers fan EVER root for the Ratbirds? They are not threatening the coveted holy grail record of most Super Bowl wins by a franchise, but a win by them would be unbearably nauseating.

I think I'm going to root for San Francisco because I'd rather see the rookie Kaepernick hoist the Lombardi, than to see Ray-Ray Lewis praising the football Gods for a fairy book ending to his career.

That's a fact, Jack!

In search of a Super Bowl office pool? Can't find one to join? Then start your own! We've got a great printable pool for you. We can't supply the participants, but we've got a pool that offers a little bit more than your garden variety 10x10 grid.

PDF Super Bowl XLVII Pool

What makes this Super Bowl pool so awesome? For starters, It's got three additional ways to win beyond the standard four quarter contest. The additional ways to win are termed; "First Blood", "First Seven" and "Final Score". All three are explained on the sheet, but here is the official explanation.

FIRST BLOOD: The first points scored in the game, e.g., a safety, field goal, or touchdown. The "First Blood" excludes the extra point on a touchdown, i.e., the first "6" points on the scoreboard. This is the first "2", "3" or "6" scored in the game.

FIRST SEVEN: The first touchdown AND extra point scored for a combined total of "7". If the extra point is missed, muffed, etc., the prize in NOT awarded for that touchdown. This is the first "7" scored.

FINAL SCORE: The final score of the game. This accounts for overtime. If there is no overtime period, i.e., the game is decided in regulation, then the winner of the fourth quarter is also awarded this prize.

That's it, and here it is...

Super Bowl XLVI - The Who to Root for Dilemma

2012-01-31T09:55:00.000-08:00

What Super Bowl XLVI team are you rooting for? Will it be the Giants or Patriots? This is a huge problem at our house. We are Pittsburgh Steelers fans and after our embarrassing loss to the Broncos, The Dilemma began. I completely stopped watching football and thought about deleting many of my football sites. I started paying attention again during the championship games after my husband and father began rooting for the Ravens. What were they thinking? I can't root for the Ravens, unless it means something positive for the Steelers. Anyhow, it made me watch the games again. The Ravens lost, I was happy and now I'm ready to face the Super Bowl. It's going to be a rooting war at our house.

Both my husband and father immediately picked the Giants. To put it nicely they don't care for Brady and don't want him to have another Super Bowl win. I needed some time. I feel the same about Brady but I'm not a huge fan of Eli either. I eventually picked the Patriots. Why? The Giants are so inconsistent and I like to win. So, go Patriots! Since the Steelers aren't playing, we will actually enjoy watching the game and our Super Bowl Party food is always AMAZING.

Have a Very Happy Super Bowl Sunday!

It's time to get your Super Bowl XLVI Gear and Party Supplies and get ready for some football. Super Bowl Sunday is a holiday at our house. If it isn't officially a holiday, someone should consider fixing that. Anyhow, it's time to decorate, get your official gear, prepare to eat the best game day feast ever and enjoy watching the Super Bowl. The enjoy part is really only for those who were not fortunate enough to have their teams playing. There is no enjoyment in painfully watching your team fight for a win but that's a topic for another post.

Last year I stated a few times that the Super Bowl logo was hot and they should use it every year. Well, all my dreams and wishes have come true. Take a look at the Super Bowl XLVI Logo Gear available. Don't forget your Super Bowl XLVI Party Supplies.
