Until now, it was commonly assumed that uneven skin tone was mainly caused by pigment production or melanogenesis. Latinas, we know these dark spots as ‘manchas.’

Breaking ground with new genomics research, the Olay Professional Alliance demonstrates that only 7% of the gene expressions disrupted in spotted skin were directly associated with the melanogenesis pathway. Four additional molecular pathways were identified as being associated with root causes of uneven skin tone. These causes include UV exposure, lack of hydration, discoloration, weak moisture barrier and surface free radicals. To effectively address and correct the look of uneven skin tone, it is essential for products that address skin tone appearance to contain multiple ingredients that target all five of these root causes.

I swooned over the dresses at the Stella McCartney Resort 2014 presentation. While backstage, I got up close and personal with the hair. Aveda Global Creative Director Antoinette Beenders styled soft, natural, effortless texture for the Stella McCartney Resort 2014 collection - a perfect complement to the playful, wearable collection full of lemon and pink shades, faux python prints and lauded as the fashion event of the year!

“It is often harder to create a natural, undone look that holds – especially given the humid and rainy weather tonight,” said Beenders. “Stella was looking for an easy, effortless style that needed to withstand the steady rainfall throughout the presentation held outside in a garden under tents. Avoid Belly Bloat: Foods That Make You Look & Feel Fat

When planning for a fun get-together with friends everything goes through your mind, from your wardrobe to jewelry and make-up. What many of us don’t plan for, however, is our meals. Eating the wrong foods before an event can sabotage your beauty plan. Certain foods can give your gut an instant bloat that looks and feels awful.

For tips on beating bloat we asked none other than Franci Cohen for some advice. As a personal trainer, certified nutritionist & exercise physiologist Franci dishes up the right foods you need to be eating now!

However, there is a solution to this dilemma. Instead of skipping dinner to squeeze into your LBD or grabbing Einstein’s bagels for a quick morning bite, certified nutritionist Franci Cohen suggests these meals that will not give you a bulging belly.

For a girl’s night out: Don’t be afraid to have a large meal beforehand (large meaning more than just a PB&J). If you are planning for an active night, whether dancing, bowling or party hopping, you will need the fuel. Franci has created the perfect meal for this situation:

- 1 grilled chicken breast (approx 4 oz)

- 1/2 cup cooked brown rice and lentils

- 1 cup steamed string beans

This combo will fill you up without weighing you down, and will give you the energy you need to dance the night away!

For a dinner- date: You’re wearing a stunning new BCBG dress that already had to be zipped up by your roommate. When you’re at the restaurant with your guy refrain from ordering a salad to make it look like you’re being healthy. All the veggies in the salad will actually cause your stomach to bloat more. Franci advises that a fish dish with one side of grilled veggies is the way to go! “Wild Salmon is jam-packed with heart healthy vitamins and omega 3 fatty acids. If Salmon is not an option, mackerel, sea bass and lemon sole are all good options as well. As for the veggies, try to steer clear of cruciferous veggies (such as cauliflower, broccoli) that can cause bloating. Instead opt for grilled zucchini, asparagus, or carrots - which will keep your tummy tamed!”

For a day at the beach: It’s finally getting warm out and you can take that bathing suit out of hiding. If you’re going to the beach you need a healthy, energizing meal to get you through the morning but you don’t want it to show in your stomach. You’re probably thinking that the easiest thing to eat before you head out is some Special K with skim milk. It’s low in calories after all, right? It doesn’t matter how low-cal it is, the dairy and multi-grains will expand in your intestines, causing your gut to stick out. Instead of cereal, Franci has an awesome recipe for oatmeal pancakes. Take 1/2 cup raw oats, 3 egg whites, 1/2 apple, and a dash of cinnamon and throw in a blender to create the pancake mix. This high fiber non-fat breakfast choice offers whole grain fiber plus additional fiber from the apple, and protein from the egg whites. It's a great filling way to start the day, and will not create any abdominal gas or bloating, so you can go bikini-bare with ease!

For an afternoon luncheon: Eating a well-balanced lunch is essential for boosting energy and productivity; giving you power over that mid-day slump and keeping your metabolism active. A lot of times people want to skip lunch in hopes of losing weight and grab an energy drink to keep them going. This is so bad! The carbonation from an energy drink will make you more bloated then a light lunch. Franci says, “For a mid-day luncheon, your best bet is a salad chock-full of fresh veggies and greens, and topped with a piece of grilled fish, low-fat tuna salad, or fresh turkey breast slices. Throw a few walnuts or almonds on top and dress with a low fat/low sugar dressing, to finish off your delicious salad creation!”

For traveling days: These days airports are getting bigger and so are the food courts. It’s tempting to give in to the convenience of fast travel food, but the combination of a high-sodium smorgasbord and air travel equals a very bloated body from head to toe. You absolutely must resist because there are better options. Eat before you leave for the airport. Franci suggests packing your carry-on with fruits, veggies, and granola bars. Believe it or not these are available at kiosks. Also, avoid the beverage service on board. Stick to water, you will have a happier flight and feel revived upon arriving at your destination!

Entenmann's and The Salvation Army Partner for National Donut Day 2013 on June 7th

The sweetest partnership, three years running.

The first National Donut Day was celebrated by The Salvation Army in Chicago in 1938 to help raise needed funds during the Great Depression and commemorate the work of the "donut lassies" who helped make the donut what it is today by feeding the tasty confection to American soldiers during World War I. The donuts became synonymous with The Salvation Army, as well as the American soldiers who were returning home with the nickname, "doughboys."

This significant occasion established the donut as a long-standing symbol of the services The Salvation Army continues to provide. The partnership between Entenmann's and The Salvation Army reinforces Entenmann's as a brand synonymous with National Donut Day.

In its continued support of The Salvation Army, from May 1st to June 15th Entenmann's Bakery will donate $1 to the organization for every person who "likes" the Entenmann's Facebook page, up to $30,000.

Hidden Health Hazards in Summer Beauty Treatments

Accidents can happen, but disasters like Paula Abdul’s staph infection and Brandie Glanville’s burnt face prove that even the most reputable and expensive spas and salons can put clients at major health risks with rushed and unsanitary practices. Whether it’s knowing what to look for at a salon or what types of treatments are most prone to cause infection, if you (and your readers) are armed with some safety tips and some common hidden dangers before you go, hopefully the price of beauty won’t extend past the treatment’s monetary costs and cost you a day (or week!) indoors with a rash, burn or an infection.

· Waxing: Double dipping can contaminate - Make sure your waxer uses a new stick every time and wears gloves. Most wax centers use traditional hard or strip wax (AKA honey wax), which sounds natural but is damaging to skin and can burn you if heated too hot by a careless waxer. To avoid the risk of redness, burns and irritation, seek out a center that uses new all-natural elastic wax, made of beeswax and essential oils. It’s applied at body temperature (not hot!) and removed without painful muslin strips. Uni K Wax Centers offer these all-natural, safe elastic treatments in locations throughout the country.

· Pedicures/Manicures: Infections like hepatitis C, staph and warts are transmitted by unwashed hands and unsanitary instruments. Watch for simple signs of cleanliness: Failing to spray down bowls or open brand new sealed instruments for each client means you’re at risk of infections left behind by previous guests. With pedicures, whirlpool footbaths have screens under the drains that trap debris and breed bacteria, so stick with plastic footbaths or washable bowls lined with a never-used plastic bag. And while Shellac polishes last a long time, know that they are filled with harsh chemicals that damage nails and may cause a reaction. If you’re sensitive, ask your nail tech for vegan polish and acetone free remover - both are safe and won’t dry out or break nails.

· Summer Hair Highlights: Beware of scalp burns and allergic reactions to chemical dyes, which can break hair or even cause it to fall out! For safety, ask your stylist for a “patch test” before trying a new style. They’ll test the dye on a small back section of hair to make sure it won’t cause damage. If your hair or scalp burns, hurts or tingles too much, skip the treatment. For those with eczema, past chemotherapy, sensitive scalps or other skin conditions, choose salons like Aveda or Mauricio that specialize in clients with sensitive skin.

The Principles of Punk

The Costume Institute of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art opened their Chaos to Couture exhibit, earlier in May – a look at and celebration of all things punk in the high fashion world. And we love it.

Why? Well, we believe every person creates their own style.

At times, it can be easy to see the fashion industry as a small, elect group of high fashion gods, secure in a looming ivory tower, handing down unbreakable decrees and reprimands like “SPARKLE SHALT NOT BE WORN BEFORE THE HOUR OF 5PM” or “THOU SHALT NOT MIX AND MATCH THY PRINTS” or “HOW DAREST THOU WEAR MORE THAN ONE BOLD COLOR?”

But then there was punk. It was of the people – and not just any people: Low-brows. Anarchists. Iconoclasts.

It bucked the establishment. It threw postmodern art, ‘60s garage rock (and beyond), and every strain of youth culture – no matter how disparate – together in a gloriously chaotic mix. It was everything fashion snobs should have hated.

And yet, it not only found its way into high fashion – it rocked its socks off. It proved that with a good eye, a strong point of view, and a ton of creativity, anyone could make a fabulous fashion statement.

Even if you’re not much of a punk person, are there some punk principles that ring true in every style situation.

· The First Rule of Punk: There Are No Rules … Okay, some rules exist for a reason. But if you’re experimenting with your look, you’re bound to bend (or break) a few rules along the line – you just have to know when. Feel like mixing 60s and 80s styles? Give it a shot. So you’re a lady, but you love that cuff in the men’s section? Flaunt it anyway.

· Do It Yourself … You don’t need thousand-dollar diamonds to be fabulous. Sometimes, all you need are some studs, a few chains, and recycled materials like padlocks and old subway tokens. The more unorthodox, the better.

· Get Loud … Don’t be afraid to make a strong statement. Be energetic, be bold, be tough, and be a free spirit.

Q: Hi Vanessa! What are some of the things you're into?

A: I love the beach, the mountains, the ocean but I also love the city—L.A., NYC, and Paris! I have always been interested in anything related to the arts whether it was music, painting, or fashion. I grew up in Hollywood so music and street style were always something I related to and was into. I have a love for anything that is creative and inspires others to be creative. I find beauty in so many things, like people and their expression of what is interesting and beautiful to them

Q: What inspires your jewelry making?

A: For me it's always an accumulation of sights, feelings, and ideas that start off my collections—I am always looking and watching everywhere I go. I always feel a combination of inspiration as I get going and the pieces are completed. I like that feeling of random combinations that occur when I am done and I look at the overall collection! It doesn't feel forced but more of a flow from one piece to another.

Q:What type of girl wears your jewelry?

A: I feel I design for that girl on the street, who you pass by and look twice. It is for someone who isn't afraid to be themselves, and tries to experience new things in life and their travels. I think the girl that wears my jewelry wants something different, so instead of doing what she sees other people do, she makes it her own in whatever way she does!

Q: What are some tips you would give to someone who is interested in buying jewelry, but doesn't know where to start?

A: Definitely build a collection of pieces! Jewelry is super fun and can make clothing exciting. Start with something that gives you a good, sexy, tough, or fun feeling when you have it on, while also complementing your body or personality! I surprise myself all the time with suddenly wanting to wear something I would have never thought I would be into. You just have to go with it try not to limit yourself!

Q: Do you have any idols when it comes to jewelry?

A:I don't know that I have idols but I really admire the work that other jewelry designers do. Pamela Love, Pade Vavra—there are so many!

'Star Wars' Weekend at Disney's Hollywood Studios Galaxy

Star Wars Weekends, the Force-filled fun-fest that takes place annually at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, returns to the Walt Disney World Resort galaxy every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from May 17-June 9, 2013.

This year’s event includes a nod to the 30^th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, which debuted in theaters in May 1983.

A celebration of all-things-Star Wars, the special event is included in regular park admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Among the features: special Star Wars-themed parades, appearances by Star Wars celebrities, special additions to Jedi Training Academy, Star Wars-themed talk shows, behind-the-scenes presentations, limited-edition merchandise, a nightly dance celebration and more. The centerpiece of the celebration is Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, the immersive 3-D attraction that speeds guests through worlds featured in the Star Wars saga.

Two Star Wars film legends – one who portrayed a villain and one who portrayed a hero – will double the fun in two consecutive weekends. Action star Ray Park, who portrayed the Sith warrior Darth Maul on the silver screen, is one of the celebrity guests in Weekends I and II. Actor Warwick Davis, known to Star Wars fans as everyone’s favorite Ewok, Wicket W. Warrick, is one of the guests during Weekends II and III.

Also showcased at the event: the largest collection of official Star Wars characters gathered at any theme park in the world, roaming the areas and posing for meet-and-greet and autograph opportunities in front of themed scenery.

Style Math: How To Wear A White Shirt

A clean white button down dress shirt is a wardrobe staple. However, I had this great Brooks Brothers shirt I wore to an interview under a suit…it went back into the closet and there is sat for a while. Until I was asked a fashion questions from a friend. With that I have some exciting news:

My friend Maria is living in D.C. and wants to remix her wardrobe. She is a lawyer and her clothes are on the conservative side but she wants to be able to amp up her look with a few trend pieces for parties and dates.

Accessory Trends: Go Animal

Fashion was born in the natural world. For as long as we can remember, we’ve worn furs, feathers, fangs, claws, and other animal motifs to make a powerful statement, both socially and spiritually.

Today, we figured we’d look at some of the biggest trends to feature fauna, from ancient accessories to modern runways. Was your favorite critter ever a style icon?

Egypt, 3000 – 332 BCE: As they found the divine in all things animal, we’re not sure the ancient Egyptians ever put an outfit together without throwing in a little creature feature – from outstretched wings to feathered headdresses to the vulture and cobra insignia on the Pharaoh’s Hedjet crown.

Central America, 250 CE – Today: Mayans and other Central Americans were almost as obsessed with animal themes as the Egyptians, creating complex and vibrant designs with deer, monkeys, jaguars, eagles, snakes, and even squirrels. You can still find their patterns in textiles woven today.

1954: Pinup girl Bettie Page showed she was one cool cat in a self-designed leopard print bikini. Since then, we’ve loved leopard print for almost every reason imaginable – it’s luxe, it’s exotic, it’s punk, it’s adventurous, it’s sexy, it’s primal, it’s dangerous…

And speaking of 1954, dare we mention the debut of the Playboy Bunny? According to LOOK Magazine’s Oriana Fallaci, founder Hugh Hefner picked the rabbit logo because “it's a fresh animal, shy, vivacious, jumping – sexy.”

(2008-Now): Designers love bringing the big cat to the catwalk, and big names like Betsey Johnson and Dolce & Gabbana have really rocked those leopard and tiger prints in the last few years. Though if you’re not a kitty person, you could always find your animal spirit in zebra stripes and snake motifs from Roberto Cavalli or foxy fashion from Jean-Paul Gautier.

Green & Eco Fashion Tips from Kristin Cavallari's Stylist

Celebrity stylist Jacqueline Rezak recently worked with Kristin Cavallari for her Coco Eco Magazine Cover. With Kristin's newfound appreciation for living a more organic lifestyle after the birth of her son Camden, it was only natural Jacqueline opted to dress the star in green and vintage fashions for the shoot.

Below, Jacqueline gives her top tips for how to easily incorporate eco-friendly finds into your wardrobe.

How vintage and green fashions were used in the Coco Eco shoot:

Many people think the ONLY way to be eco friendly when it comes to your clothing is to buy items that are made out of earth friendly materials. While this is a great way to remain eco conscious when dressing, it is not the only way. When styling for Coco Eco, I wanted to make sure we mixed sustainable materials with vintage, "re-used" items. Re-using clothing and accessories is a great way to help the environment as it means many people can get use out of just one item- saving the earth from all of the harsh steps that go into making new clothing (i.e.: travel, energy, and more).

What to pair underneath?

When dressing in re-used or recycled clothing, the fabric is often "worn in". When this is the case you always want to have an undergarment on to make that area more flattering. How to dress "green" - What to look for? How do you find those styles?

It is much easier to dress "green" then one may think. One big thing to look for when shopping is - where is your item manufactured (this by law must be printed on the care label). If it is "locally" made then there is no travel required, where as items made in China have to be brought to the United States - emitting horrible fumes into the environment + using energy that could be saved by buying locally made items. Another way to find a style that does not harm the environment is to shop vintage, when wearing these items - it is as if you are recycling, the best way to be eco friendly.
