Indian Rupee gets a symbol.A post graduate from Indian Institute of Technology(IIT), Mr: D Uday Kumar designed a symbol for indian rupee and it is approved by Union Cabinet.Through the indian rupee symbol,indian rupee will get a distinct identity.The designer of indian rupee symbol D Uday Kumar will be awarded by 2.5 lakh rupees.More than 3000 designers participated in indian rupee symbol competition.

Information and Broadcasting Minister, Ambika Soni told to the media that government will try to use this indian rupee symbol within 6 months in the country.Also indian rupee symbol will be adopted globally within 18 to 24 months.But the date in which indian currency will print this indian rupee symbol is not fixed.She told that they will try to adopt this indian rupee symbol on currency as soon as possible.The main reasons of the introduction of the introduction of symbol to indian rupees includes

* Symbol makes it easier to understand
* Indian currency rupee gets an international identity
Basically the new indian rupee symbol is combination of Devanagri ‘Ra’ and Roman letter ‘R’.Indian rupee symbol has two parallel lines of same length looks like’equal to’. Ambika Soni, Information and Broadcasting Minister said after a cabinet meeting told the media reporters that the indian rupee symbol will be printed on Indian currency notes and coins as soon as possible..
