I came across an article in my local community shopper that gave some good advice on back to school shopping. I am not sure who the author is but some of the tips she shares you probably already know, but it doesn't hurt to be reminded.

Shop Smart for Back to School

Savvy parents are always on the lookout for ways to extend their shopping dollars. For back to school, that means uncovering discounts, rebates, contests and other ways to earn free products. Here are tips for parents to stretch the budget:

Don't always opt for "10 cent specials", i.e. the cheapest and least expensive items. Though you might save up front, these products may fall apart quickly, costing you time and money to buy replacements. Choose products sturdy enough to last the entire school year. Select notebooks, folders and organizational systems with durable covers and quality materials. This is especially true when choosing a backpack. Locally we have Wal-mart and Hibbet Sports and Big Lots.
Don't forget consignment stores. Some of the better consignment stores in the area do have uniforms in new and nearly new condition.
Shop locally. To drive 30 miles plus miles to shop at stores in another area, has a cost including gas and time. Be aware of this and calculate the cost of the drive, it may not be worth it if the merchandise savings is small.
Buy basics in bulk. When it comes to things you know you'll needsuch as paper, pens and tape--seek out bulk opportunities. Shopper clubs and warehouse stores aren't just for food or household necessities. Peruse online auctions to take advantage of bulk offerings and discounts.
Don't buy too far in advance. Children often hit a growth spurt and clothes bought now for the cooler months, may not fit when the time comes. Also, after a few weeks at school the student may realize they need additional items.
Make kids' school clothes last. Choose items that can be worn in different seasons. The layered look is a good option, as clothing can be worn in different combinations to create different looks. Keep an eye on your local shopper for sales at local retailers.
Prepare a care box for college students. Pack it with essentials including toilet paper, paper towels, dishes suitable for storing and microwaving leftovers, healthy snacks and microwave meals, small dish soap, dish towel and dish rag. Other good ideas are a framed picture of loved ones, a first aid kit, mini sewing kit and basic medicines such as aspirin, Midol, Pepto Bismol.

If you are struggling with your personal finances each month, chances are you have more money going out each month than you have coming in. This is actually quite common with most Americans as most people do not track their spending. So how do you overcome it?
The first step is to realize that in order to create a balanced budget for your household, what you are bringing in each month and what is going out should be equal. Ideally, you would have more money coming in each month than going out. This is how you start to build a savings to use in emergency situations.
If you are looking for ways to cut expenses and add money to your budget each month, try these 5 strategies. I have used them successfully and recommended them to other people in my classes and they have worked well.
1. Phone lines - Your cell phone and home phone are two areas where you can find money in your budget. If you still have a land line, do you use it? If not, consider cancelling it or reducing some of the extra add ons like call waiting or caller id. The same goes for your cell phone. Is your plan the best you can get for your usage? Take some time to explore these two areas of your budget to see where you can save money.
2. Television – Paying an expensive cable bill? If you are struggling monthly, cutting out the cable bill is one way you can help to get your finances in order. With services like Netflix, there is no need to pay expensive cable bills each month. I have written a detailed report on my website about this using the Roku digital video player.
3. Haircuts – Going to expensive salons can make a huge dent in your budget. Have you thought of trying a beauty school? A beauty school is a great way to get professional services at a discounted price. Just remember, they may take a little longer because they are students, but they are supervised. If you are trying to save money and make a little extra, Mystery Shopping might be for you. I have been doing this for about four or five years. It takes a little time and effort but it does help to put a little money in your pocket.

There are all kinds of shops. I try to do the ones that are close to home and not too complicated. I like to do the gas station shops. They are usually quick and I have to stop for gas anyway.

There are also some fast food shops that I do. They are not hard to do but you have to pay close attention to details.

There are a lot of different ones. Below is a couple of sites that I use. You just sign up with them and they have training online that will help you know exactly what you are supposed to do on each shop.

The one I use for gas station shops is: http://www.ritterassociates.com/. They are farely easy. You don't make a whole lot on those but every little bit helps.

Another one I use is: http://www.captainds.com/. This is for a fast food shop. Captain D's is a chain of seafood restaurants. To me, this one is really easy too.

Another mystery shopping company I use is http://www.epmsonline.com. With this one you go to different apartment complexes and act as if you are looking to rent an apartment. I like these because they are fairly easy and you make more money.

Is it worth having to stress about where the money will come from when you decide what your stressing over isn’t worth it? It’s doubtful. Once you start to understand your spending you will realize that some things just aren’t that important.

I was recently sent a package with Covergirl Natureluxe silk Foundation and Lip gloss. These Covergirl products were sent to me by BzzAgent.com. I was asked to review them and give my honest opinions. The Natureluxe Collection is made with less of the heavier synthetic ingredients.
    The new line is lighter and smoother on your skin. It has a clean fresh smell. The foundation has a touch of cucumber water and natural jojoba and rosehip in it. The lip gloss has a blend of mango and shea butter that makes it so smooth.
    I tried the foundation and the lip gloss and they both had a light feel to them as I put them on and they glided over my skin and lips.

I work as a Bzz Agent and the company sent me some coupons to try Thomas Bagel Thins. I got the coupons and went to the store and picked up a pack.
There are 8 bagels to a pack. The bagels have only 110 calories. That is really good, especially if you are trying to lose weight. It would work in good with Weight Watchers. I like the bagels. They had a good flavor. My favorite way to eat them is with fat free cream cheese and peach jelly. It is a tasty breakfast or snack.
My honest opinion is that they taste good and are a smart calorie choice but I would rather have half of a regular bagel. I like biting into a thick bagel.
