Outfit: avatar body, clothes, attachments, everything
Avatar: (1) a body as you see it, possibly including clothing and attachments
Avatar: (2) your identity, including name and what you see on the screen as you.

Wearables

Object: you can wear as attachment (may look like clothing, hair, etc>)
Skin: Texture you can wear that looks like skin
Clothes: Things you can wear that look like clothes

Other

Box: containing clothing. You rez it, click to open, and copy the contents to your inventory.
Wear: command to the system ( right-click on the item name in inventory) to put something on your avatar
Attach: command to the system ( right-click on the item name in inventory) to link an object to a selected point on your avatar,

Distinction: Outfit, Avatar
Avatar is used with several different meanings as noted above. Outfit is sometimes used for clearer reference to a body as you see it, possibly including clothing and attachments.

Changing things

Three ways to change your appearance.

Put on a new outfit or avatar
Edit the appearance of the outfit you are wearing
Change attachments on the outfit you are wearing

These are different things. Don't confuse them or they will confuse you.

Changing outfits is the easiest way to change your appearance.

This is also the easiest way deal with an avatar-outfit that rezzes incompletely or as a white cloud.

Get other outfits
You can find many other outfits--free and for sale. Most will be called avatars, the legacy term. You will need to handle them in a legacy way:

When you get an avatar, it will probably be in a box. Don't wear the box.
Rez the box,, click to open it, copy the contents to your inventory.
Your new clothes will probably, go into your clothes folder, not your outfit folder
It will be a subfolder with the name of the avatar-outfit
The subfolder will hold all the clothes and body parts needed for the avatar-outfit.
You put it on by dragging it from your inventory onto your avatar-outfit.

Right-click on your avatar: menu: Edit my outfit
This option lets you select body parts and attachments. Here you can also modify body parts like skin color.

Right-click on your avatar: menu: Edit my shape

Use this to change your body shape: Be shorter, taller, thinner, fatter,etc

You will get a window with various controls on your body and body parts. Try moving the controls and see what they do to your appearance.

To save your current outfit
You save an outfit you want to keep by a click on the Save As button on the outfit window. Be sure to use a name you can recognize later.

To encourage the production of user created games and the growth of a community of educators, researchers, and students who use and create games and simulations, VWBPE has a Games and Simulation stream. The Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education conference www.vwbpe.org is a grass-roots educational community conference. We have already received some excellent submissions but we would like more!

Proposals are due February 15, 2012 http://conf.vwbpe.org

Presentations that encompass the following are encouraged:

Digital Game- Based Learning
Haptics
Augmented Reality
MMORPGs
Role-play
World of Warcraft
League of Legends
EVE Online
Minecraft
SWTOR
Glitch

And Poster Displays that show the following:

Mini-Game
Short quick play digital games that are designed for multiple iterations. An example would be a puzzle, board game, or quick quiz show all contained in a virtual world.

Game within a Game
Short game contained within another digital game. An example would be a user created questline in City of Heroes or World of Warcraft. This could also be an adventure or competition within Minecraft.

Role-play
Games that require players to login to a specific virtual location and actively play key roles or characters during the game while others are also acting out roles. These may include a free flowing extemporaneous style that does not necessarily need to have a win/lose conclusion.

Simulation
Games that model specific situations virtually that the player may face in real life. Examples would include business meetings, ordering food in a restaurant, flying a plane, or operating on a patient.

Guild Structure/Badges/Pointification
This category focuses on the use of various digital tools for motivating the player to continue play and/or received feedback on progress.

Other
This category can include any game or simulation that does not fit the categories above. This may be a NPIRL ( Not Possible in Real Life) scenario that is played as a game or simulation, a scenario created from a novel, historical recreation or anything else that involves play.

We do also want to encourage submissions for the Machinma Fest

If meetings don't follow good practices, you hear:

The meetings are just a waste of time.
They just talk, go in circles, get nowhere.
Lots of good ideas get ignored.

Here is what to do about that

Meeting Agenda

TODO list for the meeting. A written list of concrete outcomes that the meeting is intended to produce. An effective agenda item should say clearly how people in the group will know when item has been completed.

Where does the agenda come from?
What makes a useful agenda item?
Common items on an agenda
How to use an agenda.
Vocabulary

If you don't know where you are going, you won't know when you get there.

Where does the agenda come from?
Generally from the people at the meeting, from people at previous meetings, or from an organization sponsoring the task that the meeting supports. Collecting, organizing, and distributing the agenda is a group leadership role. The person calling the meeting would usually distribute the agenda along with the notice of the meeting time and place.
-
If a meeting agenda is not available, a group facilitator would point out the need for an agenda and might mention some items that could go on it. If there is no group facilitator, somebody else can do it. You, for example.

Obviously a lead item would be: Develop an agenda for this and future meetings.
-
Developing an agenda requires a recorder (role) who solicits suggested items from the group and organizes a list. There will probably be many more items than can be handled in a single meeting, so managing the agenda becomes an action item for a person or SWG. The agenda then becomes a working document that is used and modified at subsequent meetings.
-
Managing the agenda is a leadership role with considerable influence over progress on the task. Volunteers are likely to be readily available.
-
What makes a useful agenda item?

Concrete language.
Specifies a product or outcome.
Everyone can tell when the objective is reached.
Clearly contributes to the project the group is working on.
Can be completed or delegated in reasonable time

Common items on an agenda

Reports on each pending action item: status (blockers, schedule)
Specification of new action items and who has each one.
Schedule time of next meeting.

How to use an agenda.

Distribute the agenda ahead of time
Show each pending action item and its status
Update the agenda as new information is available.
Move on when the objective is reached*

Personal agenda. Goals of a particular person for the meeting
Group roles. Type of actions that regularly appear in task oriented meetings
Group Maintenance Roles. Types of actions that regularly foster cooperation in a group
Group Task Roles. Types of actions that regularly foster progress on the task of a group
Group Leadership Roles: Types of actions related to organizing and managing the group operations.
Facilitator. Person responsible for encouraging the group to take actions known to foster effective functioning.
Action Items. Concrete actions to be done by a specific person
Action item, accepted. A concrete task accepted as a responsibility by a specific person.
Brainstorming. A technique for generating ideas in a small group.
Planning: Develop list of concrete actions needed to reach the project goal.
Evaluate plans: Assess the benefits, costs, and prospects of alternative plans
Special Working Group (SWG): Ad hoc group taking a single action item.
Delegate: Turn over a task or group role to a specific person or SWG

Self managed teams

The main idea of the self-managed team is that the leader does not operate with positional authority. In a traditional management role, the manager is responsible for providing instruction, conducting communication, developing plans, giving orders, and disciplining and rewarding employees, and making decisions by virtue of his or her position. In this organisational model, the manager delegates specific responsibility and decision-making authority to the team itself, in the hope that the group will make better decisions than any individual. Neither a manager nor the team leader make independent decisions in the delegated responsibility area. Decisions are typically made by consensus in successful self-managed teams, by voting in very large or formal teams, and by hectoring and bullying in unsuccessful teams. The team as a whole is accountable for the outcome of its decisions and actions.

Actually Ohours is not needed for that. I had office hours a couple of years ago--I simply promoted the time on my blog and met people at Rockcliffe University Consortium campus.

A cousin of haiku, Sijo got its influence from the Chinese as well, although its form and structure is different from the shorter haiku style. Sijo is full of twists and turns, so come learn, write and share this 44 syllable short poetry style. We’re at our new location in East Cookie, between Inksters and Town Center.
