I guess I really liked elbow patches last year because all of the chunky cardigans I pull out of my closet have one. I'm not complaining - just pointing out the obvious is all. I always get so confused as to what I should wear to Tyler's family gatherings. I tend to overdress on a daily basis or wear an outfit completely inappropriate for the occasion, which includes family events. Now my family, they're 100% used to my wardrobe choices and don't think twice when I show up in heels and shorts for a Sunday dinner. Other families - I'm not so sure. I like to think Tyler's fam jam is now used to my style, but this particular BBQ outfit was a safe call on my end due to the attendance of family friends I've never met. Button down, jeans, cardigan and boots seemed to be a universally appropriate outfit for first impressions. Do you have any "first impression fool proof outfits" as a go-to for these types of occasions?

Happy Friday everyone! I hope your week went well and you have fun things planned for this beautiful weekend! I'm SO excited to finally visit Brown County tomorrow with Tyler and some friends! Tyler has informed me of our {tentative} plans for the day and I couldn't be happier with what's in store! Of course, expect a blog post about it in the next couple of weeks.

We're at that perfect time where the trees have changed and the leaves are still holding on. It's hard not to be inspired by the beautiful scenery and it definitely feels like fall. I've been bundling up in this sweater {last seen here} and scarf what seem like almost every day. This dress has been in my life for almost four years. I snagged it off the H&M sale rack for $10 while visiting Indy the Christmas of my senior year. It's dainty floral print and tiered ruffles make this dress super feminine, but pairing it with more masculine pieces like this Grandpa sweater and brogues creates a nice balance. When in doubt, throw on a sweater with elbow patches.

NYC Photo Diary #2

NYC feels like it was forever ago. Tyler and I couldn't have asked for better company and hospitality in the big city. It was a big step for "us" being able to meet each other's high school and college friends. Since I'm from the West Coast, he's barely met any of the girls and guys that played a huge part in my life. You can tell stories about them, but it's just not the same. I'm grateful he was able to witness the wonderful, hot messes we really are and even more grateful he's accepting of it.

Some of these pictures are from the day I met up with my high school and college friend, Danielle, as well as a couple fabulous ASU DG's, Jessica and Kendall. What I thought was going to be a quick bite to eat, turned into a boozey brunch at Poco. Several glasses of sangria and horseradish bloody mary's later, we stumbled into a beautiful secret garden and determined a drunken photo shoot was necessary. Since my plans for shopping went out the window after the second sangria, we ended up meeting Tyler and his buddies at McSorley's Old Ale House. This bar dates back to 1854 and obviously has a lot of history {read good ole' wiki here if interested}. In regards to beer, you have the option of "light or dark" - nothing fancy - and a round consists of two beers per person. I thought I ordered two beers by accident, but turns out that it's just their standard. After we finished a couple more rounds, I parted ways with the girls and continued on to Big Gay Ice Cream Shop. Needless to say, it was the most entertaining treat - EVER. Tyler and I had a hungover date night in Little Italy filled with pasta, more wine, cannolis and espresso before heading to bed early in preparation for shopping the next/last day. We did some quick damage before heading to Times Square and stumbling upon Bouchon Bakery where an obligatory box of macaroons was purchased. Due to a time crunch, we didn't get to indulge in the airy treats until we sat down in the airport - but they were definitely worth the wait This was Tyler's first macaroon experience and I am happy to report it was verrryyy positive.

Mango Salsa

Aside from my brother, it's been a while since I've done a food post. Please excuse my inconsistency over the past few weeks. Lots of changes have been underway and have taken more of my time than expected. Also, this week and next week are packed full of Indy fashion events, so again, my absence may be growing a little more and more. I'm struggling to find a balance/motivation to sit and dedicate time to all of you, but I'm sure I'll find my groove really soon. Can you all bear with me?!

Now on to the really important stuff...food! I kick myself for not posting this recipe earlier when most of you had more fresh fruit than you knew what to do with, but this salsa is a staple in my house and I had to share! It's an explosion of different flavors that somehow marry together and create a fresh, citrusy garnish that has me {and the hungry bellies it feeds} wanting more and more. I tend to make more than I need, but somehow always find ways to utilize it in different dishes. If you can get your hands on a couple luscious tomatoes and mangos, you MUST try this salsa! It's incredibly easy to make and pretty hard to screw up. I know that's an attractive quality in a recipe for my not-so-great-chef-wannabes reading this. Enjoy!

Makes 1 1/2 Cups {pictures show ~3 Cups}

Ingredients

1 ripe mango, peeled and diced
1/2 medium red onion, diced
1 jalapeno, deseeded and diced
2 ripe tomatoes, deseeded and diced
2 kiwi, deseeded and diced
2 1/2 Tbsp cilantro, chopped
2 tsp red pepper flakes
1Tbsp lime juice
2 tsp balsamic vinegar
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Salt and pepper to taste. Adjust the ingredients as you like {more red pepper flakes, balsamic vinegar, cilantro, etc.} then cover with plastic wrap and let marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes. Mango salsa complements fish* and chicken then best.

Hi everyone! I hope you enjoyed Cory's Caprese Pizza guest post yesterday! He inspired Tyler and I to whip up a pizza of our own last night. If only I had that beautiful garden to pick from though! Maybe someday, right?! Thanks again Cory and I hope you'll be making an appearance again on here soon!

I wore this outfit for work last week, but my midriff wasn't showing. Once I stepped outside the building all bets were off and I knotted my top just a little higher. It reminded me of when I was in high school and used to leave my house in one outfit before heading to a friend's and changing into a more risqué one. Anyone else remember doing that too?! I was pretty notorious for it, especially when it came to Halloween. Sorry, mom {even though you're aware this happened due to picture evidence you discovered way back when}.

Like I said in my last outfit post, I will wear my summery items until they just can't be worn any longer. It's inevitable sandals will have to rest peacefully on its shelf once snow shows its pretty - yet deceiving - face, but I'm still not sure if this maxi skirt needs to hibernate for the winter. It was recently rediscovered {I've said this about one too many items recently} and hundreds of winter outfit ideas have been running through my mind since. Over the next four to five months, I'm thinking it will develop a great relationship with boots, sweaters, hidden leggings and faux fur. I'll let you know how the love story turns out.

{Guest Post} Caprese Pizza

Aloha! I am Allie's big, but not biggest brother, Cory. I have the severe misfortune of being stationed in Kauai with the U.S. Coast Guard. I know, what a drag. However, there are some upsides to being here on the Garden Isle. 1) We have a year round growing season for backyard vegetables. 2) I surf everyday of the week which allows me to eat and drink whatever the hell I want! BONUS!

Ole Allie Pallie asked me last week if I wouldn't mind guest writing on the Bubble and I said yes of course. Allie and I have been blessed with a family who enjoy the most important things in life...food, drink, family, and friends. I have determined throughout the years that the freshest ingredients, and the most homemade of flavors are the key to producing ridiculously good food. So I have taken up baking! Why? Lotsa folks know how to make a really good burger, awesome pasta, or killer carnitas, but then they go and wrap those epic pieces of flesh in store bought flavorless bread. Ughhh! What a let down. So let me share the basic recipe that I use for bread, buns, tortillas, and today's pizza dough. To top this dough?...my wife's homemade backyard pesto and homegrown tomatoes.

{What a garden in Kauai looks like}

{Ingredients}

Dough:
3 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp Salt
2 tsp Yeast
4 Tbsp Olive oil
3/4 cup warm water
1 tsp sugar( I use Vermont maple syrup)

Toppings:
1/4 cup pesto
2.5 sliced tomatoes
1/4 cup chopped red onions
1/8th portabello chopped
1/4 cup mozzarella
1/4 cup procuitto( it wouldn't be a meal without cured pig flesh)
A few handfuls of spinach

{Instructions}

1. In a measuring cup add sugar, then water, then yeast. Allow yeast to eat up and activate.
2. In a mixing bowl add salt to flour and mix. Then cut in olive oil.
3. Mix water/yeast slurry into flour. Add water as needed to reach soft but not sticky dough ball.
3. Knead for 3-5 minutes.
4. Coat dough ball in 1/2 Tbsp olive oil and allow to rise in mixing bowl.
5. Preheat grill or oven for blazing a$$ hot
6. Roll dough out 1/4 inch thick onto a greased cookie sheet or pizza pan.
7. Spread on the ingredients
8. Toss the pizza on the grill or in the oven and crack a beer!
9. When the crust and cheese start to brown, you can pull the pizza.
10. Allow to cool, then slice and go to heaven!

This basic dough recipe was my gateway into baking. You can sub in one cup of whole wheat for a wheat dough. Sub baking powder for yeast, and water for crazy hot water and making tortillas. Sub olive oil for butter, change to cold water, and you have a basic pastry dough. So go crazy, have fun, and eat.

Food and drink is fantastic. It unites family and friends and brings smiles to peoples faces. You have to eat everyday, you might as well eat well.

It's my favorite time of the year in the Midwest. The mornings are brisk, trees are glowing, pumpkins are everywhere, and multi-hued leaves cover the sidewalks. Although mosquitoes are getting their last dinner in and I am without a doubt their main course, I've enjoyed spending time outside roaming the farmer's market, late night bundled boat rides and eating decadent Lindor Truffle s'mores around bonfires. With the exception of today's misty and dreary weather, I love the transition of summer to fall clothing. Basically I'll wear my summer clothes to death until it's just not possible anymore. This means waffle knit cardigans with Grandpa patches go over everything. You'll be seeing this sweater and it's darker twin more than you probably want to over the next couple months. Be prepared.

{Friday's Francies} Atlantic-Pacific Crush

This week's Friday's Fancies theme is once again, Outfit Crush!! Last time we were given this theme I featured the uber fabulous Blair Eadie from Atlantic-Pacific {see here}, while offering her chic black and white look for {much} less. Blair is obviously one of my style ~~crushes~~ obsessions and it was a no-brainer as to which outfit I would feature today. Her "Party" look from over a month ago had me going ga-ga over feather skirts. Of course, her styling is impeccable/genius pairing a masculine military jacket with the whimsical skirt while nonchalantly throwing in not one, but TWO prints! This is my kind of outfit and Blair is my kind of girl.

Instead of putting together a list of the exact pieces she's wearing {check out here for her head to toe look}, I was inspired to recreate her outfit, but with a twist. Camouflage has now made it onto my "must-have print" list for Fall through Spring due to its versatility. This utility jacket {along with the buckled booties} adds a tomboy element to the ultra-girly blouse and skirt. Cinch the ensemble with a leather belt and you've got a Blair inspired look!

Tyler and I spent our first day in Manhattan playing tourists. We only had a few hot spots on our agenda, but the day unfolded perfectly. With the exception of it being 90 degrees out, it was the perfect day to explore the big city. A simple - yet loud - outfit for a day of work. It's weird, sometimes I'm completely content waiting a few days or even weeks before ripping the tags off my newest purchases. But sometimes, I just HAVE. TO. WEAR. IT. This little number and sassy flats only lasted 18 hours from their time of purchase before making their way onto my body. I'd like to blame it on the whole "I just got back from NYC and had nothing clean left in my suitcase" dilemma, but that's a total lie. And we don't want our relationship filled with lies now, do we? I didn't think so.

Oh, and a big HAPPY 30th BIRTHDAY to my fan-fuckin-tastic big brother, Cory! He's a pretty rad and talented guy with a big heart and too many jokes. Hope you have a great day brudda bear {your goody package is coming soon!}.

Weekend Update: Sweetwater Lake

Good morning everyone! Hopefully, the weekend treated you well! We had a lovely time at Sweetwater Lake Friday and Saturday, eating LOTS of food, soaking up the last rays of sun, dominating in Pictionary {well, my team anyways}, and just enjoying each other's company. Saturday night, Tyler and I continued stuffing our faces at his parent's Half St. Pat's Party until I officially slipped into a food coma. Pretty sure I was in bed by 11:30pm. I know - I'm out of control. But I do have to say it was really nice waking up at a decent time, getting an early start on the five loads of laundry that had taken over my tiny room before heading to brunch with one of my bff's, Claire. Without going into details, it was one of the BEST brunches we've ever had! News to come from that brunch later on. ;)

Wedding Bells

Tyler and I attended a wedding last weekend which wraps up wedding season for us. It was a minimalistic, beautiful celebration of two people who fell in love - despite what the law says is "right." We're so thankful to have been included in their big day and wish the ladies a lifetime of happiness together.

This dress made an appearance at two weddings this year, for a few good reasons:

The perfectly pleated jersey material hides all wine spills acquired throughout night.Typically, I have Wine Away on hand for these kind of events, but sometimes I'm too wrapped up in dancing to remember to use it.
The skirt is ideal for obnoxious twirling on the dance floor. Mostly it's to entertain myself, but some party-goers {like the boyfriend} are intrigued by it as well. He kept yelling, "Do it again! Again!" He's an instigator that man of mine.
In addition to twirling, it's perfect for stomping around the dance floor in what I like to think I'm doing resembles a Paso Doble {obviously this occurs after one too many glasses of complementary wine}. No formal training needed - I learned everything I know off So You Think You Can Dance.

9/11 Memorial

No matter how many years have passed, September 11th is one of those days that will always feel like it was yesterday. Nostalgia kicked in as Tyler and I just visited the 9/11 Memorial and St. Paul's Chapel (one of the recovery centers) two weeks ago. Having the opportunity to pay our respects to the victims lost while witnessing the One World Trade Center being built was emotional and quite surreal.

As President Bush said, "Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America." Today is a day to remember. Remember those who lost their lives on this day. Remember those who have fought and continue to fight for our country. Our liberty. Our freedom.

Remember how blessed we are to be the ones here remembering it.

Indy's Fashion's Night Out!

Last Thursday, fashion took over Indianapolis as stylish Hoosiers gathered to celebrate Fashion's Night Out! This was Indy's first year participating in the one-night-only shopping event which was a huge success! Numerous events took place around Indy {which I followed through fellow bloggers Instagrams}, but I only attended the events downtown at the Artsgarden and Circle Centre Mall.

My night started with wine at the VIP reception where I finally met a few people I'd only known through Twitter! Weird how that works. To kick off the night's event, local design houses presented their lines one right after another, describing unique details their lines encompass. After snapping away and getting a little antsy to get out in the mall {I had a minor case of FOMO - fear of missing out}, a few friends and bloggers joined me in meandering the hallways to check out some of the participating stores. To be honest, Circle Centre Mall was pretty dead and it was difficult to tell which stores were participating in FNO. I ended up not shopping at all because I was too focused on some other things, but the ladies I was with made some fabulous fall purchases! I made it back in time for a couple more presentations that wrapped up the night's event. Shortly after, a few of us went to the Libertine for dinner and drinks, before heading over to Blu Lounge for the FNO after party! Most of the party goers looked exhausted (and for good reason!}; however, celebrations continued well through the night with stiff drinks in hand!

Overall, I'd say FNOindy was a huge success! There are areas that need improvement for next year's FNO, but you live and you learn when when it comes to a first annual event. I hope you all had a great FNO in your city {or online} and got ~~some~~ lots of goodies!

This shift dress has only been worn a few times, which is quite unfortunate. I hate when clothing feels neglected hanging in my closet {yes, my clothes have feelings too}. But it's such a pretty 3/4 sleeve silky dress that deserves to be out and about mingling with military jackets all day - indoors/air conditioning I might add. It's not cool enough for frequent layering just yet, but I couldn't help myself on this morning. For so long this dress had me uninspired, only being able to switch out accessories for a "different look." So when I threw my trusty military jacket over it, the whole "summer meets fall" look I'd been hoping for came together. Now this dress can rest happily in my closet until I get that itch again for it to come out and play.

Hopefully everyone has a Fashion's Night Out event to go to in their area tonight! I'll be attending a FNO kickoff reception prior to mingling in the Social Media Lounge at the Artsgarden and Circle Centere Mall. FNOindy Shopping List

Happy Tuesday everyone! I hope you had a chance to relax and unwind over Labor Day weekend! Tyler and I returned from our sunny NYC vacation last night and I feel like I could use another couple days to recoup. We were non-stop tourists eating and drinking everything in sight {I'm sure you know this if you've been following me on Instagram!}. I'll be doing a few NYC photo diary posts next week, but for now I want to focus on one of the best nights of the year - Fashion's Night Out!!!

Indy is celebrating Fashion's Night Out on 9/6 as an official participant this year! It's an amazing first for Indy and the fashion community - even my boyfriend is excited for the extravaganza! IndySpectator published my FNOindy contribution today, which I highly encourage you to check out here! If you're an Indy resident, I've provided you with the nitty-gritty so there's no reason you shouldn't make it to a FNO event {again click here to read it}! If you're not an Indy resident, browse Fashion's Night Out event listings to locate events in your area and even online!

While in NYC I obviously did a little shopping; however, I didn't get everything on my fall shopping list. One of my FNOindy Tips is to come prepared with a list of items you need/want. Like most shopping fanatics, I have to set and adhere to a strict monthly wardrobe budget {especially when it comes to trendier items}. Bringing a shopping list reduces the chance of frivolous purchases and assists staying within budget! Of course, if you happen to stumble upon a bracelet or handbag that gives you butterflies and is not on your list, no judgement will be passed if it "accidentally" makes it home with you ;)

It's official...I can't wait for fall. Even though I love strutting around in the sheerest of tops and shortest shorts, I'm obsessed with layering, fall colors, snoods, boots and wine. Well, I love wine any season, but bordeaux for fall just seems to fit. The deep hue warms up the coldest days and is a great transition color along with navy and emerald. I'm not going to get too ahead of myself since it's supposed to be in the 90's this week, but once that first frost hits that means no more mosquito bites and it's completely appropriate to match my favorite drink {wine, duh!}.

{Friday's Fancies} Travel Essentials

Happy Friday! My coffee is extra strong this morning as I'm just trying to get through the last few hours that separate me from the weekend. Recharging and thinking about what I'm bringing to NYC is on my agenda for the next few days. Last night we had a fantastic Pattern meetup at City Way in downtown Indianapolis. First off, City Way is going to be an amazing addition to downtown. I'm really excited to see that particular area liven up and bring in new traffic {me included}. A new mixology bar and restaurant have definitely got my attention! Secondly, the Pattern Paper Fall 2012 issue is sure to be a hit! The cover alone is stunning. Come October 9th I'll be nose deep in the 100+ pages until I'm finished reading it cover to cover. Lastly, Pattern meetups are always great networking events! I still get super nervous mingling with fashion, photography and textile professionals considering the only way I'm connected to the industry is through my blog. I take a lot of pride in Allie's Bubble, but my day job has me submerged in the health care and legal industry - not fashion. I bring personal style and fashion into the work place as well as read, dream, and shop it after 5p, but that still doesn't consider me a fashion professional. Maybe someday! ;)

Anywho, it's Friday and we're about to get fancy. Like I've mentioned before, Tyler and I head to NYC next Thursday! He went to school at Syracuse and frequented NYC, but I've never been! We plan on going to a Broadway show, shopping, eating, visiting friends, and seeing some sights! I'm dead set on being out and about as much as possible {no sleeping in, babe!} soaking up the city, culture and of course, FASHION! Today, I wanted to share a few of my traveling essentials that will obviously accompany me to NYC.

Comfy sweater - We're all aware planes are freezing. I typically always wear a comfy sweater or at least bring a chunky cardigan to throw on just in case.
Soft pashmina - Who likes to use the airlines blankets? Definitely not me. I bring my own pashmina for extra warmth or to ball up and use as a pillow.
Big sunglasses - After long hours of traveling and layovers, sometimes big, dark sunglasses are just necessary.
Hand sanitizer - I don't leave home without it.
Loafers - Nothing I hate more is being held up in security for longer than I have to. Slip on shoes like loafers are stylish and convenient for bolting through security.
Weekender bag - Has anyone else had precious items stolen from their checked baggage? That's definitely a trip bummer and not a way I want to start off my relaxing a fun weekend. I always carry my jewelry, electronics and expensive items with me on the plane. A weekender bag is roomy and typically has several compartments for easy organization.
Trail mix - Trader Joe's trail mix is my all time favorite. It really saves the day when hunger pains set in and I need to tame the hungry beast within. You're welcome in advance babe.
Magazines - There's nothing I love more than catching up on trends, beauty products, and editorials while flying high.

Indiana State Fair

Hi everyone! First off, I am so grateful for Pillsbury to have featured my recipe on their Facebook Page yesterday! I'm blown away by all of the sweet comments and amount of likes it received! I was seriously on cloud 9 all day and haven't really come down just yet. It definitely inspires me to keep cooking and share my wannabe chef endeavors with all of you. However, today I'm going to focus on someone else's food - The Indiana State Fair. A small group of us went last Friday with empty bellies and a lot of cash. Over a four hour span, we hit what seemed like every food/drink/dessert stand possible. Tyler and I captured a decent amount of pictures, but honestly we were so engulfed in our food and people watching that we didn't focus too much on pictures. Perfect timing before I head to New York City in one week to explore and go shopping with Tyler. Of course, when I return there will be lots more shopping to do for Indy's 1st Fashion's Night Out on 9/6! Sorry for the hiatus from my little blog. I've been super busy with some other things and haven't gotten around to actually writing blog posts {or reading many blogs either!}. I've been consistently taking pictures though, so don't you worry! I'll post some yummy recipes soon! Speaking of yummy recipes, remember this Caprese Cup post I shared with you a few weeks ago??? Okay, so I bought this rainbow plaid button down months ago and have yet to wear it. Mostly I wasn't sure how to style it without looking like a clown. Finally I dug through my closet and rediscovered this lavender ruffle skirt I wore to my friend's wedding a few years ago. Honestly, I totally forgot about it. Not because I don't love it, but because it's borderline length appropriate for work. A good solution for alleviating its risque length are flats and a super obnoxiously bright shirt so eyes are focused on the top half of my outfit. I guess it worked since I didn't get sent home for inappropriate attire.

Hope you all have a fan-freakin-tastic Hump Day! I can't wait until 7pm when I get to celebrate my friend Ray's Birthday by eating all of his mom's delicious cooking. Seriously, she blows my mind and satisfies my stomach every time. Thanks in advance Deloris.

Bowl of Sherbet

Well, this outfit grabbed lots of attention the other day at work and out and about. My boss {who wears a suit every day} quickly commented that I looked very bright and like a big bowl of sherbet. I couldn't really disagree with his comment. Dressing in bright colors is one of the quickest pick me ups while facing a gloomy day. Another pick me up is eating ice cream, or in this case a bowl of sherbet. Conclusion: dressing like a big bowl of sherbet keeps pep in your step all day long. Let's just consider this scientifically proven.

I took today off just to relax, maybe cook, and basically do nothing on this ~~fine~~ soon-to-be-rainy Thursday.
