Why you should invest in statement jewellery pieces

Like most girls, an outfit for a special night out, a festival or for your 2 week holiday, doesn't just consist of your clothes and shoes but we also like to coordinate our outfits with cute accessories. One of my most favourite accessory is definitely jewellery. I think jewellery is a little extension of ourselves and can bling up the most plainest of outfits. I love these photographs of the simple looks, teamed with statement jewellery pieces to create a trend-setting, sophisticated look.

However do you ever get sick of paying up to £20 from high street stores for jewellery pieces, that don't fit your finger properly and fall off when you are drunk? Or they turn your ears/neck/fingers green after wearing them only a few times. It really does break my heart, when my favourite necklace is passed the point of resembling gold and is a ugly rusty orange colour. Parting with it is always difficult, and investing in more jewellery is even worse, particularly when you spent all your wages on your new lipstick, dress and shoes!!

Nevertheless, I have formed a new resolution. To stop buying jewellery that only lasts me a couple of weeks, and instead will hopefully last me for a year. Of course this duration, comes with a higher price tag, however is definitely an investment. What I am talking about, is REAL yes real gold/silver pieces that are still fashion pieces and don't break the bank!

Investing in pretty fashionable pieces, that don't rust and fit perfectly definitely resolves a lot of problems, and can add a little character to any outfit.

At the moment, I lust after statement rings, that compliment most of my daily outfits. In particular I LOVE coloured stones. Colour stones are very "In Trend" in the jewellery world, and I cannot not get enough of the pastel colour stoned rings.

Face Soaps, Cleansers and Makeup Wipes - But which one?!

As I mentioned in my last blog, I am now more than ever, super keen to take care of my skin and hopefully keep break outs at bay and to try and minimise ageing as much as possible - not getting any younger eh! Although, after the amount I drank last night at my friends' wedding, it is safe to say my skin is not feeling very hydrated today haha!

Here are my essentials!

So as I had mentioned, I try to remove my makeup as soon as I can in the evenings after work, to let my skin breathe and stop my pores getting clogged up!

You have different options for removing makeup; foam cleaners and soaps which you use with the help of a little water, and of course, cream/gel cleansers and toners which you can use with a cotton pad. Or ofcourse there is the standard makeup wipes too.

I personally, use a combination of a face soap and a cleanser and toner. I have heard mixed reviews about face wipes and how it can dry out your skin, so I have never been a big fan of them. Plus I feel like I can use as much cleanser and soap as I want, and get a cleaner face instead of been restricted to a makeup wipes' measurements. You can read more about it here.

My Makeup Removing Routine

At night I have a little routine of removing my eye make up with the Simple Eye Makeup remover. This is slightly kinder to your sensitive tissue below your eyes and removes all kinds of heavy eye makeup. I just use the large cotton cosmetic pads to do this.

I then use the simple cleanser to remove the rest of my makeup. I have tried Clarins' cleanser, however at the higher price tag of £20, and with the amount I use, I really couldn't justify paying that every couple of weeks. Especially when the simple cleanser does the exact same thing.

After that I make sure I tone with the Clarins Toner. This restores any moisture to your face and balances your skin following cleansing. I have had this bottle for around a year, you only need the tiniest amount and it leaves your skin feeling fresh! Toners also claim to be good for shinking your pores once they have been opened up from the cleanse, restoring pH balance and acts as a layer of protection to your skin too! Magic little toners.

I then apply my Bobbi Brown Under Eye Cream and my moisturiser. I tend to use the night version of this moisturiser, however it ran our last week and I haven't had the chance to pick up a new one - so my daily moisturiser does the job in the mean time!

I repeat this process in the morning, however in the shower I use my Aloe Vera face wash. It has a lovely smell and really wakens my skin up in the morning, ready for a full face of makeup haha!Here is a pic of my gals and I with our cleansed pre-wedding faces! Hehe! Fresh is best with glasses! :D

SO for anyone thinking about purchasing a cleanser, whether it be a foaming/wet cleanser, or a cream cleanser, you don't have to go over board on the price tag. Just try a few out and see what works well for you. As soon as you get yourself into a routine of doing it, it becomes second nature - like brushing your teeth before bed at night!

Why you Should Always Remove your Makeup!

It has been forever since I blogged - to say the least! However after much thought, I realised that I really missed blogging and I look forward to being back in the game and writing more regularly!

What pushed me to write this blog, is an odd one, as you can see from the title of the post. You may be wondering - "Oh here we go, another rant about looking after ourselves." However, more so than ever, I thought that I would shout out about the importance of taking care of one's skin, particularly after I had a bad experience and developed a skin condition called Perioral Dermatitis.

What is Perioral Dermatitis?!
It sounds really scary, and before anyone freeks out, no its not contagious - thank god! Perioral Dermatitis is a skin condition, commonly found in females, between the age of 20 and 35 that can cause an inflammation around the mouth and eyes. Unfortunately the exact cause is unclear, however specialists have reason to believe that it can be caused by using steroid creams on the face and/or the use of makeups and lotions and potions. My Experience

To my horror, around two years ago, I found a few soar, itchy red lumps, around my smile creases on my face. Being a girl who has luckily had not too bad skin when it comes to spots etc, I quickly went to the doctors and he prescribed me with steroid cream. Unfortunately this cream only made it worse.

So I decided to search online (as you do) for solutions. It was not long until I came across information that said makeup could be the cause of this problem. Well for someone like me, this is truly heartbreaking. I love my makeup and NEED my makeup. I cannot go to the shops without it on!

From then on I decided enough is enough. I was on the man hunt for a remedy for this (pain in the ass) rashy bumps that didn't involve having to walk about looking like a little boy (no makeup). I then came across this wonder cream "Calendula," (which has been said to help reduce the redness of Perioral Dermatitis!)

Hallelujah!

My once clear skin was relying on this cream to work and I am glad to say I wasn't disappointed. After almost three weeks of using the cream as my only moisturiser, removing my makeup as soon as I decided I wasn't leaving the house again, (haha) and using a calming aloe vera face wash, my rash finally disappeared.

My Reasoning Behind the Rash

I truly believe that this rash was caused by using too many products and therefore having lots of chemicals on my skin, and not letting my skin breathe enough. Since having this condition, I have religiously removed my makeup, as soon as I know I don't need to have it on, which is often as soon as I come in from work. I can only reiterate, how better my skin looks and feels and my rash has almost disappeared, apart from one little blemish.

So gals, the moral of the story is, if you are a bit of a makeup junky like me - no matter how drunk or tired you are, try and remove your makeup, because you never know what your makeup contains or whether or not you may have a rash on the way!

Back to the Drawing Board

Have you ever wondered, what it would be like to live somewhere else? I did....
I dreamt of living in Central London, being able to have so much opportunity on my doorstep, from career, to meeting new people, social life, and not forgetting the shops!

This dream, of living in the big smoke was made possible....after sheer determination and hunting high and low for jobs, I finally landed one in London and before I knew it I was packing up my small little world in Scotland and moving to London!

For me it was a massive move. For one thing I still lived at home with my parents, and although I was independent and had done the usual back packing nonsense, I hadn't had my own place or lived as far away from my parents. Regardless, this all seemed exciting and a new adventure to me and I couldn't wait for it to begin!

Fortunately, I was living with three other girls in London, who I randomly came across on Spare Room.com (a site I would definitely recommend if you are thinking about moving to London). We all got on really well, and they kindly introduced me to their circle of friends, which of course makes living in a strange city and not knowing anyone a lot easier!

The first few months living in London were great, it almost felt like an extended holiday, and soon after working hard in a job, I landed another job. (what I thought was my dream job) and everything seemed to be falling into place.

However, what I have learned, is visiting somewhere and living somewhere is a completely different kettle of fish. When you visit somewhere, you get to experience all the fantastic things of a place, all the nice eateries, bars, shops and tourist destinations. However when you live and work somewhere, all of these fantastic things become almost unnoticed and you can often find yourself focusing on the crap things, such as the horrid commute on the tubes to work!

This realisation became apparent to me, working long hours and being too tired to do anything at the weekend, made me reflect and wonder what it was I came to London for. I came to London, for a better life, and as far as I could see, I wasn't experiencing the dream that I had sought. My new "dream" job wasn't satisfying me, and neither was my non existent "life" I had been dreaming of.

I began to realise, that the things, people etc that I had left at home, weren't going to be found here...they were already waiting for me back home. The only thing that was keeping me there was the career I thought I wanted and the life I thought I would lead...but neither were what I had imagined.

After a few weeks of tearing my hair out, and wondering if I was giving up too easily, I knew that deep down, I could have just as good a career back home, surrounded by the people and things I love. (And didn't cost an arm and a leg to live there either!)

As a result, I knew my decision had been made...and before I knew it I had booked a train back home and not only surprised myself but surprised my family and friends.

I am not sure why I am telling you this, it almost feels like I have came to terms with the fact that my "dream" wasn't quite as it seemed, and it's almost therapy to jot it down. However, looking back, I am so glad that I had the opportunity to live and work in London, after all it is a fantastic city with more work opportunities than you can ever imagine. Had I not tried it I would be asking myself right now, "What would it be like to live in London?" Therefore definitely not any regrets, but the few things I have learned are...

1. Always chase your dreams never how crazy they seem
2. Don't be afraid to take risks
3. Always appreciate what you have, because it is not until you don't have it you realise how lucky you are.
4. Never be ashamed of trying and not succeeding, you can always get up and try and try again
5. No job is worth feeling miserable about, no matter how much you try to convince yourself!

Would I return to London? Yes I may return in the future, but I would prefer to return when my career is doing well and I am not having to count every penny I have to enjoy myself! It definitely is an expensive game down there and if I was going to do it again - I would have to do it right!

One thing is for sure...It is not the end, it is a new beginning. Yes I am back to the drawing board as they say, and I must admit, these past few months have been some of the most difficult months of my life, but I cannot wait to see what the next chapter of my life will be! On wards and upwards as they say....

17 Again

So I am sitting watching 17 again, stuffing my face with far too much chocolate whilst swooning over Zac Efron, he really is quite delicious. One day I tell myself, one day! Anyway, I often wonder to myself, what the hell was I thinking when I was 17. Whilst I thought I had impeccable taste, my fashion sense was shameful. These days, 17 year old girls seem to have it so right...why was I not like that?!

Anyway, if I could be 17 again, I don't think I would. I am quite enjoying the finer things in life...such as wearing slightly more covered up clothes than my slightly more slimmer 17 year old self. I've realised I actually quite enjoy dressing a little classier and appreciating purchasing a little candle and cute little things for my flat, whilst sipping on a fine wine and not gulping it like it's going out of fashion....well sometimes. How times have changed...

So I decided to fall for the grown up craze of midi skater skirts...having searched the internet for a cheap little number, I found this one on eBay in the Boohoo shop for a mere £15.00 - ideal!

I decided to jazz it up and add a little pastel colour to my monochrome outfit with this lovely little bag and necklace from Accessorize!

So apart from flaunting this little outfit at the dancing last night, I spent my weekend, relaxing, drinking wine, sitting on my balcony enjoying the sunshine and admiring my oh so girly room.

Now for the week ahead...last week at work before I start me new job! Really excited...but what do you wear to your first big fashion job?! Pressures on! Any suggestions?

London Life

So it has been a while.... and A LOT has happened. Whilst finishing my masters degree, I managed to get myself a little job...as a buying assistant for a womens wear fashion company. Before I knew it I have managed to get myself a flat with three other girls who work in fashion, and I am now living in London. A little bit crazy I know, but one life one chance...gotta grab it by the balls whilst I'm still young enough! So I thought I would give it a try...whether I am going to like it, I don't know but won't know until I try. Soooo it could be long term or just for a few months, who knows - need to wait and see!

As for my lovely little life back in Scotland, although I am going to miss it so much, I am going to be up visiting every other weekend, I'll miss all my favourite people too much.

Anyway, I thought I would share a few photographs of my new life in London with ya...well so far, (it has only been 4 days) paha...

My first proper day in London, my work invited me along to one of their clients, John Lewis to celebrate the 150th year anniversary. They had lovely music playing, champagne, cupcakes, and they had created a miniature museum of John Lewis...it really was a nice day! I have a few snaps here...I also wore this cute little spring top from New Look, I just love the colour!

My Cheap and Cheerful Pastel Fix

This time last week I was having a bit of a wardrobe meltdown. One of those days when you look in your wardrobe and even though it is full of lovely things, I just needed a new fix of something new for the weekend!

With it being a five week month and being super skint, I told myself I could NOT spend anymore than £20...and I somehow managed to do it!?

Yes!

I found these little beauties on Missguided. They both come in various colours and to be quite frank I could have them all. However I have an obsession with mint just now so opted for this crop top and went for a nudey/peach skirt as I thought I would get good wear out of this over the summer months....sensible move I think!
PS it came with a little Kinder Bueno so thought I would picture that too...yummmeee!

Normally at that price I would be a little hesitant about the quality of the product but when it arrived I couldn't be happier, the skirt is a nice thick fabric called "scuba" and is fab because you can't shoot peas through it. The top is also a softer material and not the clingy type that can often look cheap. Love them!

Nevertheless, after all that excitement of a new outfit, I decided it was a little fancy for a house party that I was attending at the weekend, so I opted for my pink trousers that I featured on the blog last week....definitely going to get use out of them...BUT I have a night out in a few weeks for my best friends birthday so will give the skirt a shot on the town then! Outfit sorted!

Everyone needs a highlighter in their life...but which one?!

I have always been a lover of dewy, glowey, highlighted skin. I understand some people hate it, and think it looks shiney, a few people I know prefer the matte look however I have always been the latter! I think nothing looks better on a girl than dewy skin, it looks healthy, natural and less cakey looking if that makes sense?

Soooo I have tried and tested numerous highlighters in the past, however I have wittled it down to three of my favourite highlighters. All are completely different price ranges, and can be used for different things, on their own or all together! If I am going on a night out, I tend to use all three but in different places... anyway here are my fave 3!

The first is Highlights by technic. Basically this is a dupe of the "High Beam" from Benefit Cosmetics. I used to work for Benefit Cosmetics, and absolutely loved High Beam, however for me I think it is quite pricey for a highlighter...at £19.50. But hey if your rich I would definitely try it. Me on the other hand, if I find a nearly, just as good product I will definitely give it a go. You can buy this one from any BodyCare shop, it is around £3 mark.

Firstly I love this product! It has lasted me for months. It has a little brush applicator which is handy for application. However I tend to put a little bit on my finger to warm up the product and pop in onto my eyebrown bone or mix it in with a cream blush to give my cheeks a lovely glowey, colour. This highlighter is really good for paler toned skin, or anyone who is wanting to properly highlight an area, unlike my other ones which are more about giving a dewy bronzed goddess look....

So onto the next... The second one pictured is Mac Cream Colour Base in Hush. This is another one which lasts forever. I use this everyday, on my cheeks, down the middle of my nose and anywhere else I fancy a little glow. hush is a lovely colour, it looks nice if you need a little natural lift to your face, whether it be colour or highlight. It is perfect for mixing in with any cream blushers, or cream concealers to hide any dark circles under your eyes. I love this product and think it is completely worth the £15. If you do not fancy that specific colour, the color base selection is available in different tones to much your skin colour. You can check them out here.

My newest edition to my favourite highlighter collection is, Topshop's Glow in Gleam. If I am being honest, I was a big skeptical about Topshop's Makeup. I had tried their lipsticks and thought they were okay, so wasn't in too much of a rush to try the other products, until my friend and uni had noticeably beautiful highlighted skin and she told me it was Topshop's Glow! I had to give it a little try, and now I am so glad I did. It is a think cream consistency and it comes in various shades. I picked this shade as I am hoped it would make my skin have exactly what it says on the packaging, a summer looking "glow". Absolutely perfect, it is so blend-able and a little goes a long way. It is really nice mixed in with a heavier foundation for a subtle dewy glow or used on the cheeks for a highligher! The only downside of it, is I think after a while it disappears from my face, (may just be my face) but I think it is to do with the creamy lightweight consistency. Nevertheless, add a little more on the go and hey presto you have the beaut glow!

Now down to the nitty gritty, which is my favourite....it is soooo hard to choose. But I would probably say the Mac Cream Color Base! Purely because it is not an over the top highlighter, it looks good no matter where you put it, and the shade of it goes well in winter or summer! Unlike the other two where I would be reluctant to use Glow by Topshop in the shade of Gleam in wintery months and I would tend to only use High Lights on specific areas. Therefore the winner is Mac !

Pastels and Monochrome lovin'

It's FRIDAYYY wooop! Time to scoff my face, relax and catch up with the most important people in my life <3 Sometimes I find life takes over, whether it's work, university or just your regular daily routine, but there is nothing better than getting time to catch up with loved ones and relaxing!

Tonight I am off out for dinner, and possibly doing something a little different like bowling or crazy golf.. so it's one of those outfit dilemmas where you are stuck in the middle of being slightly fancy yet casual?

My lovely mumma treated me to a pair of pastel trousers, I think with her following my blogs and listening to my fashion ramblings, she instantly knew that I would love these trousers! Good pick old dear!

I absolutely love these trousers but the difficult thing is, teaming it with something that doesn't make me look like a complete barbie...so I opted for a little monochrome combo to give it a dressed up look and to not over load in candy, pastel shades.

I opted for a bouncy up do, to make myself appear as though I have not put in any effort (haha) and ofcourse since it's the weekend added an extra slick of makeup then normal and a pair of lashes and ta da!

Pageantry is it really just pretty girls in sparkly dresses?

This weekend, I attended a fantastic event, where I was asked to judge at a prestigious pageant, Miss Galaxy UK. For those of you that don't know, at the beginning of last year I was lucky enough to compete for the title of Miss Intercontinental Scotland, which I then went onto win and then was flown off to Germany to compete for the International final.

For those people who do not know what pageants involve, don't quite understand them or think they are a load of nonsense, well I will fill you in on the basics.

For me, pageantry has completely changed my life. It sounds cliche and a lot of people will roll their eyes when I say this, but it is true. I am not going to get the violins out and feel sorry for myself, but many years ago when I was at school I was subject to bullying and completely lost self confidence and belief in myself. My mum then entered me into a small, local pageant and to my surprise I won! I could not believe it, and following that year I gained experience modelling as well as being in the final for Miss Scotland, (which is run by Miss World).

Although I did not win Miss Scotland, the experiences I gained, from being in it from meeting the press, photoshoots, collaborating with sponsors, working with charities alongside 9 other fabulous girls was unbelievable. Being able to get so far in a well-respected competition against hundreds of other girls from around the country really boosted my confidence and made me realise...hey do you know what, maybe I am not the shy girl I once was.

Following this, I entered Miss Intercontinental and won! It was the most fantastic feeling, knowing that all my preparations and hard work at the gym, practicing my walk, saving for dresses etc had paid off and I had finally got over my nerves of being on stage!

Pageantry isn't about just a few pretty girls on prancing about on stage, getting a crown and sash and away she goes. It is much more than this, it is working your butt of for something you really want, determination, drive and chasing after your dreams of being something you thought was never possible. It is being able to have the confidence to present yourself on stage, (something that can be extremely daunting), not being scared when being interviewed by 5 or 6 judges and most importantly it is having the strength to be yourself.

Sometimes, being yourself is the scariest part of all, being judged for who you are as a person, not about what dress you have on or how amazing your makeup is...but how your personality shines through both in interview and on stage. Often people say to me, "How did she win?!" People forget that the nicest looking girl on stage isn't necessary the nicest girl inside and out.

Over the weekend I had the most amazing experience of judging a fantastic pageant, Miss Galaxy UK. I was lucky enough to meet the most inspirational girls I have ever met. We had 15 year old girls, walk into an interview room of 6 interviewees, without a scare in the world. Presenting themselves more confidently than what I ever could as well as talking about the amount of money and awareness they have raised for various charities.

Pageantry and charities tie hand in hand. It is girls, using their titles as a voice to raise money and awareness. It is about girls giving something back to the community and doing something that they really care about. The girls this weekend had raised over £5000 for charity! An incredible amount to have raised and I cannot congratulate them all enough, for their hard work and efforts!

Therefore, although some may be skeptical, pageants are more than the big hair, swimwear round and big dresses; they help girls to grow confidence, believe in themselves, feel like a princess for a night and most importantly give something back to the community.

Bargain Hunter

Everyone loves a bargain. I particularly love a bargain, and I almost enjoy clothes more if I know I got it for a steal! After having to pay my holiday off this month, (I'm heading to Cancun with the boyfriend) I decided this month if I want to purchase anything, it has to be a banging bargain that I can justify to myself hehe!

Soooo, after having an eye on a few things, I decided to treat myself to a pair of mom jeans out of the sale and a cute pair of skater shoes in the sale at my work (New Look)! They were only £3!! I cannot find them online however there was loads available in store so please check out your nearest store!

I find it so hard to resist the little steals that I see in my work New Look, but I figured for both of them, it only came to £15...can't complain.

Teamed my newbies with my Forever 21 bodysuit that I featured on here a few weeks ago. Wearing a tighter top/bodysuit with baggy jeans, such as the mom or boyfriend style is essential to still make you look as though you have some shape and don't look like a sack of potatoes! Baggy on bottom then go for tighter on top and vise versa.

Perfect little outfit for being comfortable and carefree at university as well as ditching the winter boots for a little pair of skaters! Also whilst I was on my way to uni, I was reading my little bible, Glamour magazine and I came across this little post...

So even they believe skaters and low slung jeans are a this season must have! Hehe Cute! Ps excuse the hair - just washed and a bit of a bush! Hehe!

Distressed Denim

After LFW I love to browse through the images of inspiring fashionistas from all over the world that attended LFW for outfit inspiration. There are so many eclectic and outgoing styles that I envy and wonder "would I ever be able to pull that off?" However I completely believe in this little saying...

I completely believe you should dress in a way that makes you feel good, look great and express who you are as an individual, regardless of what fashion is.

Nevertheless after looking at the LFW photographs, I fell in love with a few bloggers styles, particularly the "Im Next" Swedish bloggers, Victoria Tornegren and Lisa Olsson. Absolute Babes!

Their styles are fashionable, yet not completely out there, but are very classy and almost "Zara" like. After scowering through their blogs, I noticed that they have been sporting the most amazing distressed denim look and I believe every girl should invest in a pair! Not only will it most likely come back in and out of fashion year in year out, can be worn time and time again, BUT it looks fab on everyone! Team with heels for a night out or flats for a relaxed Sunday look...here are a few of their pictures here.

Relaxing Spa Day...

I was fortunate enough to get a little spa voucher for my Christmas that entitled me to 3 facials and a massage. As you may have already guessed, within a few weeks I had quickly took advantage of my massage and my first facial voucher...Bliss!

Since then, I decided to book into have the other two facials each month and today was my lucky day for my facial! I 100% believe in giving yourself a treat every now and again and having a day or a few hours to spend where it is just about "me". It works wonders. I think something like a spa day, getting your nails done, or hair done is essential to keep not only you looking and feeling physically and mentally well.

If you are ever stuck to get someone a gift for their birthday/mothers day etc I think a little treatment at a spa goes a long way because it is something that they would not necessarily splurge on themselves.

Today I visited a day spa called Lumia Spa in a small town, close to where I live in Bridge of Allan. If you do not live in Scotland or anywhere near me, there are plenty of day spas popping around the country. The difference with a day spa and an actual spa, it is not attached to a hotel nor does it have a swimming pool etc. But I think day spas are perfect for someone who is a busy, working lady and is in need of some TLC without having to take a day off to go to it.

Lumia Spa

Lumia is a lovely old house that has been transformed into a lovely spa, with multiple rooms as well as a hairdressers. My favourite part is the electric heated blanket that keeps you toasty when getting your treatment. After your treatment you get taking to a lovely little room where there is a warm fire, relaxing music and a cuppa with a bit of Scottish Tablet! Yum!

Lovely end to a stressful day at uni! So girls, if you haven't had any "me" time for a while, don't feel guilty, treat yourself, it will keep you feeling refreshed, and make you look younger hehe!

P.s please excuse the non makeup, hiding behind glasses and mug pose - just after facial and didn't bother slapping the makeup on my newly silky skin ahah!

Colour yourself with accessories....Stella & Dot, Hilfiger and Maybelline!

It's been a funny old weekend, one of those weekends when you don't do very much but you get a lot done if that makes sense?! After 3 weekends of partying, I decided I needed to calm the ham and chill out for a weekend, (little holiday off work) and it has been really nice. I had the chance to catch up on little things that I have been needing to do but not had the time to do...like do my nails, visit the opticians for a new pair of glasses and oh go to the gym.

Yesterday I had a really productive day, went to the gym and nearly died. Not a good start. I then had lunch with my beautiful mumma and went to buy a new pair of glasses because I somehow lost them at uni...eeek! So clumsy!

I was on a very tight budget for my glasses but the lovely lady in specsavers (I think felt sorry for me) gave me a 50% off coupon since I was a student and I got a cheeky pair of Tommy Hilfigers that were meant to be £125 for £62.50! Result!

I only need glasses for uni, to read the far away whiteboards, this will hopefully now mean I know longer have to sit in the front row squinting at the board like a weirdo.

Whilst I was waiting on my glasses getting made, I nipped to boots and invested in a new nail varnish which I thought would go perfect with any spring outfit, whether it be pastels or my typical black wardrobe essentials. Cute.

Two coats of this beauty in "Love this sweater" and it gives a lovely shine and strong colour! I have a few other shades of this Maybelline Colour Show nail varnish and it lasts a good 5 days before it starts to chip. Definitely a good nail varnish for the price at only £2.99.

Lastly, I love it when you misplace something, then you find it again. Story of my life! I got this beautiful gift from my Aunty Claire at Christmas, and I haven't stopped looking at the Stella and Dot website since I got it. The cute little bracelet came beautifully gift wrapped in this little box and said "hello gorgeous" on the front which I think is a lovely touch. They offer lovely, different accessories that would be perfect for a gift for a friend or for a mothers day gift. (It would save you gift wrapping) And a lot of the items are gold plated/gold/silver therefore won't tarnish or turn your finger green which is an added bonus!

So after a weekend of downtime and quite frankly saving my bank account from further damage, I managed to fulfill my shopping habits with a few must have accessories. New gleks for university, a cute little nail varnish and finding my bracelet again! How do you all avoid your urge to spend money at the weekend?!

Tom Ford adverts, utter genius or a bit too much?

As you know I am studying a Masters International Fashion Marketing and yesterday at university, the topic of the lecture was advertisements. We see so many adverts out there these days that we find it is often the extremely funny ones that everyone talks about and shares that are successful or the absolutely shocking ones which definitely stick in your mind.

However it is a very controversial topic surrounding the "shocking" adverts because can they be regarded as being socially responsible? I will let you see these images and you can make your own mind up...

A few of these adverts have been banned in several countries as it is regarded as not socially responsible, for instance for teens and children to see. I personally agree that I wouldn't like me child seeing sexual adverts like this however I do think that they are successful marketing tools, because we all know that sex sells. Using sexual connotations within adverts makes us stop, notice and remember and isn't that exactly what advertisements about? In particular, the first image with the red lipstick, completely sells the lipstick to me as it has a strong, perfectly glossy lipstick which happens to have a stubbly man kissing your cheek....after all what woman wouldn't like that?!

Nevertheless, the argument presented to our class was that, some adverts could be seen as sexually exploiting a woman. For example, take the men's advert above with the bottle of aftershave presented on a womans naked cleavage. Is there any need or is it just genius?

I believe that yes there maybe some female exploitation (however I am no feminist) but I think what an arguably fantastic advert, men and boobs...will definitely make a man stop and look twice. Genius.

London Fashion Week AW14, My Favourites!

Following London Fashion Week is one of the highlights of my year, it makes me proud to be British in particular and it is lovely to see new and up and coming designers collections growing and developing. However I do love the anticipation of seeing your more established brands' collections and wondering what new concepts they are going to present!

You know its a good collection when you are excited for the season to arrive to embrace the new fashions. My strongest favourite collection was by far Vivienne Westwood's Red Label. Here is a few of my favourite pieces from the collection with a few phrases that come to mind....

I absolutely love how she has embraced the Hollywood Glamour era within this collection using strong masculine tailoring with sexy, confident twists with the flashes of gorgeous red and fabulous high waistlines to accentuate the female form. I love the preppy style that has been carried through the past few seasons and combined with the contrasting pinstripes and red lipstick - I can see this style being adored within AW14.

Moving on, my other favourite is a relatively new and up and coming designer Barbara Casasola who is a Brazilian born, London based designer. She has worked for Roberto Cavalli as well as fulfilling assisgnments with Lanvin and See by Chloe before starting her own collection a few years back. Her collections I believe always exert her inner Brazilian-ness (if there is such a word) with a strong feminine flair without being flowery and frilly and also had a strong sexyness to it with the daring sheer panels. Love this collection! The purple tones are just to die for! Here are a few of my favourite pieces from her AW14 collection.....

So ladies, don't trade in your boyfriend blazers and jackets yet - they will be in full swing in AW14 and absolutely jump on the sheer detailing this summer to take you through to your winter wardrobe!

WEARING// High Waist trousers

Ahhh Monday is almost over for another week, it really was quite a horrific Monday - from waking up feeling like death to my umbrella taking a tantrum and breaking on me mid storm, resulting in my preened locks turning into a fuzzy mess. Delightful.

Understandably, I gave a huge sigh of relief when I got home and snuggled into my pyjamas and began rummaging through the latest London Fashion Week photographs! (oh so jealous!) Nevertheless whilst I am trudging through to university I decided to parade my little bargain trousers that I found on eBay. For a mere £11.99....these little bad boys are extremely comfortable, will go with any pastel top and are right on trend with their high-waistedness (if that is even a word) and their pin stripe/dog tooth pattern.

I love big buckle belts just now and I found this one in my work, New Look for a mere £4.99. It was a medium to large as there was no smalls left however I watched a you tube video on how to put a buckle hole in a belt and I was quite proud of myself that I managed to achieve something so technical haha...all I needed was a screw and a screwdriver!! So if you are ever in need - you tube is the way forward!

Lastly, I kindly got a Topshop voucher from my boyfriends mum for Christmas. I am always so hesitant to use a voucher when I get one in case I am really in need of an outfit one day...however I decided to treat myself to this gorgeous bag! And I absolutely love it and had so many compliments about it! A perfect this season accessory!

I mentioned this jacket a little while ago, still sporting it hehe!

Ardell Demi Wispies...oh so perfect

With it being the weekend and all, I thought it was an appropriate time to express my gratitude for fake eyelashes. Apart from anything else, during the week I try to keep my makeup to a tame level and most of the time I can't be bothered applying a lot of makeup to go to uni or work. However when it comes to going out for lunch/dinner...sorry any sort of meal really, whether it be a liquid lunch or not...I like to look as though I have made a bit of an effort by applying a pair of lashes!

If I am being honest, when I was younger I believed that the thicker and darker the lashes the better, however in my older, tender age, I think I suit more natural looking ones that still give me the length and thickness without looking completely fake.....and these are my ultimate dream here....

A few months back I was modelling for my oh so favourite best friend and makeup artist Stacey Leigh Spalding. Who can I just say, has extremely raw talent and who is being requested for high class shoots left right and center in Scotland (oh so proud friend). Anyway, she used these lashes on me and I simply fell in love.

Every time I wear these lashes, people ask me if they are my own lashes. (I WISH) However they give the illusion that you have fantastically amazing lashes even though you are lieing and are hiding behind short bald lashes. Who cares?! They are just amazing. I believe it is down to the fact that they are natural hair lashes, and not synthetic meaning they appear to be the same texture as your own lashes.

I love wearing them during the day for a more glam look, and at night if I want a more dramatic look I simply add a slick of black liquid eyeliner and a heavier coat of mascara over both my eyelashes and the fake eyelashes to give a more dramatic effect...and hey presto! Sexy eyes here you come!

I grudge paying a hefty amount for eyelashes, especially after I loose them in my bed when I am drunk and wake up with what resembles squished spiders' legs. Therefore I located a seller on ebay, where I got 3 pairs for £9. Bargain, compared with boots whose Eyelure lashes are almost £5 per one set of lashes!

Clarins Instant Smooth Self Tanning Review

If like me, you have been subjected to walking around with milk bottle skin in the winter, and cannot take your unhealthy complexion any longer, well I have found a little product that could help.

At the minute, I simply cannot be bothered applying fake tan unless I am going out for a night of dancing in small little outfits! Also to be quite frank it is a bit of a hassle at night, it ruins my crisp white bed sheets, and it is slightly expensive to fake tan regularly! So as an alternative I have been using Garnier Summer Body moisturiser.

Garnier Summer Body - Boots £5.10

If I am being honest, I had never used this product before and it was a bit of an impulse purchase as it was right next to the till when I was buying my usual toiletries at boots. However I have been pleased with it. For a mere £5 it does what it says on the bottle without leaving me smelling like a curry! It is a nice consistency moisturiser, making it easy to quickly rub in and it absorbs quickly so perfect for chucking your clothes on in the morning! It leaves a lovely "sunkissed" glow - probably not the darkest gradual tanning moisturiser but it definitely takes away my blueish, white winter skin haha!

So as a result of using this, my face was remaining paler and paler. There is only so much bronzer a girl can put on without looking like an oompa loompa so I decided to invest in a gradual tanner for my face. The reason I don't put fake tan on my face is because I find it normally blocks my pores, leaving me with big beastly spots (which I don't normally get) and I think nothing is worth that!

I always use Clarins moisturising products on my face so my natural decision was to test one of their gradual face tanners out. After a few google reviews, I was convinced on buying the Instant Smooth Self Tanner. Once it arrived I was so excited to try it. It is a lovely consistency, almost feels like the Benefit Porefessional or Smashbox Primer, smooth, thick and soft. It smells really fruity and summery and a little goes a long way.

Clarins - Instant Smooth Self Tanning

I applied this after moisturising but before applying my foundation. I think this product would work well as a primer as it smooths out any lumps or bumps and my foundation has stayed put quite nicely. After a day of wearing it, I removed my makeup hoping to notice a change in colour of my complexion but unfortunately I still looked my pale self. I decided to put some on before going to sleep and see if it makes a difference in the morning.

As a result I woke up with a nice little glow on my face. It gives you a very subtle glow but is enough to take the paleness away from your face and allow for your makeup to go on without there being a contrast between your neck and face.

I highly recommend this for someone who has a little extra money and would like to splurge out on a product that is good for your skin and gives you a gradual glow. However I think if you are looking for an instantly darker complexion then you may have to look elsewhere or get a darker foundation.

Timeless Pieces

I often find myself asking the question " Will I wear this again?" I think when you are a shopaholic like me, it is necessary to consider this question because otherwise I would end up an overly dressed individual with no money to leave the house.

Therefore I have been trying to be very good with what I am buying, taking into consideration outfits that I could wear during the day and at night as well as an outfit you can wear in the winter and in the summer. Guess what...I have found just the perfect little outfit and all for under £30!

I think this simple yet classy little combo encapsulates this season in one, without being ridiculously bold and "out there" therefore can be used season after season!

Box cut tops are a cleverly classy style which flatters mostly every shape. With its high neck, lovely polyester material and small zip detailing at the back, could be worn from the office, to dinner then to cocktails! Particularly in this cream colour you can style with anything, tuck it into a skirt or leave it hanging over skinny jeans. Beaut!

I fell in love with these cute little shorts/callots, with them being baggy and high waisted, they will flatter any shape - these could be worn cutely in the summer with a crop top or team with tights and red lippy in the winter... wow how I LOVE them!

As you can see, I think it would look perfect with any pastel accessories this season...what would you team it with?

Floral Kimono and Cocktail hour - good mix !

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending one of my best friend's birthday celebration dinner! It's not very often we all get together as we all lead such busy lives but whenever dinner and cocktails is on the cards we all make the effort and come together for sure !

I often find mid-week drinks is a hard one to dress for, especially when you still want to look like you have made an effort but not be too over dressed! I also think that in the winter it can be difficult to dress up effortlessly compared to the summer because of how freeking freezing it is outside and the amount of layers you have to put on! Who says looking like a sumo wrestler with numerous layers can't look sexy?!

So I decided to put together an outfit that I would generally wear during the day, but team with ankle strap sandals, a clutch bag and of course a pair of eyelashes never go a miss !

Firstly, excuse the pouty mcpouter here...yes it is embarassing, but like all girls the typical duck face somehow makes me look a bit better than a big cheesy grin when taking selfies haha!

I absolutely loved this outfit. I cannot get enough of all the beautiful pastel shades that are in just now. Especially the baby pink shades which have definitely added a brightness to my winter wardrobe. I really liked this kimono as soon as I spotted it in my work, New Look. Firstly because it is black, it will really go with anything and regardless of what time of year it is, florals will always be in style! I think it looks perfect for going on holiday or to a festival? Team with denim shorts, a crop top , wellies and a fedora hat and you would be perfect for T in the Park festival! However a few girls at work first thought it looked like a fancy dressing gown but as you can see when it is on, it definitely doesn't look like that! Regardless I LOVE it anyway!

I also never have these mom jeans off, they are perfect for going out for dinner as I have a little extra room to scoff my face and they look fab dressed up or down! I definitely need to invest in another pair...ebay here I come!

Well I hope ya'll have a great weekend, I was out last night and I am still in my pyjamas at 2pm so I really need to get a wriggle on!

Chanel Lift Lumiere and Soliel Tan Review (Makeup)

If you are like me, and no matter how settled you are with your foundation/mascara, you often get the urge to change it up a bit and try something new. I am not sure if it is down to boredom of the product but regardless I always find a way to convince myself that "I am in need of a good foundation, this one just isn't great".

Soooo I found myself convinced of this, and next thing I know I am lingering about a Chanel counter, telling myself I am not going to buy anything, yet I find myself spending more than I budgeted for! I just cannot resist splurging on makeup...even if it is going to make me a poor little lady, at least I will be a poor lady with "flawless" skin! I bought two things from Chanel...here they are here

Lift Lumiere Foundation - Chanel (Shade 40)

Soliel Tan De Chanel - Bronzer

I decided Chanel, simply because my last foundation was the Vital Lumiere foundation by Chanel. I did really like this makeup however after a few hours I found that because it was so light and sheer, it would have slid of my face and vanished. Not the ideal look, especially with my ghostly complexion.

I then explained my problems to the Chanel consultant and she recommended trying the Lift Lumiere Foundation. This foundation is tended to be for more mature skin, to conceal and smooth lines with its silky texture, giving a satin finish. As you may be aware I am not a mature gal, however the firming and smoothing ingredient, I believe would be useful for anyone who suffers from uneven skin tone.

I like lightweight foundations that 1. Don't slide of my face but 2. Looks like I have makeup on but without making me look caked and chalky. This foundation does the trick! It has a lovely pump for easy application, a little goes a long way and it gives my skin an almost dewy appearance without looking shiny.

At £38 it is slightly expensive for a student budget, however I don't mind saving a few pennies to have a nice complexion, and when it lasts a while that is even better!

My second item is the Soleil Tan De Chanel! I loveeeee this item! After reading a few reviews I was skeptical that a cream-gel base would be effective at staying put on my complexion. However this product is fantastic for so many things. If you just want a small bit of colour and to wear no foundation, this is perfect for blending into your complexion to give you a natural looking tan anywhere, from your cheeks, neck or decolletage.

I personally use this to contour after applying my foundation, to add structure and definition to my features. However this will be a little gem in the summer; if you are like me and your body tans, but your face doesn't, a small dusting of this product will go for miles and will give a gorgeous tan complexion that matches your body! Hooray!

It is priced at £31 which I think is very reasonable for the size of the tub and how little you have to use. A definite makeup bag must have!

Anyway, I hope this review is useful for anyone that is considering using these products.

Club Night Attire

What a night.... from being a drunken wanderer, making "life long friends", and exchanging phone numbers.(with girls) I can safely say I had a fabulous night! I attended a club night at one of the best venues in Scotland, The Arches. From what I can remember the music was good and the drinks were flowing...

The problem with going to a club nights is, I never know what to wear to them. Because the night doesn't end until 5am in the morning and there is a lot of foot stomping action; most girls are sensible and wear trainers/converse with hotpants. However I personally never feel fully satisfied with my outfit if I wear flats! So I compromise and go for the trusty trainer platform, comfortable, qualifies as casual, yet gives me a good few inches to give the illusion I have slim legs. Perfect.

I have had these platform trainers for a good few years, they are black so when people proceed to stomp on your feet they leave behind no shoe prints, and they only get dragged out the wardrobe on nights like this. If you are a little raver like me then I highly recommend investing in a pair :)

As I had mentioned in my last post, I planned on wearing my new skirt from Forever 21 and I decided to team it with this cute timeless, off the shoulder crop from Miss Selfridge with a few sweet accessories!

I teamed this with a simple hair up do, to avoid the embarrassment of my hair expanding to twice the size and looking like an 80's porn star mid night, when it tends to get busy and quite frankly sweaty. #curlyhairprobs

AND according to my boyfriend, men prefer girls with their hair up? Is this true ?!

PS please excuse the mess of my room in the background, I cant seem to get ready for a night out without creating a mess.

I loveee my little cuff that I got from ASOS a few months back . They no longer have my cuff, however they have some pretty bangles and cuffs that say LOVE available here!- perfect for getting in the valentine spirit!

As I right this, I feel as though I am dieing a slow death. I have consumed a Macdonalds and a Dominoes, and I am now going to proceed to have a big slice of chocolate cake and a cuppa in effort to cure my disgusting hangover.

Today was a good day. I was in university in the morning, which was actually very interesting, telling us what this semester will involve and I became almost excited for this year *coff* dork! Anyway, I became inspired to have a wander around the shops especially since it was NOT raining... and I had a little time to spare until my train so I simply couldn't resist.

Well as I suspected, I was lured into buying something. Not surprised. Bangin' bargains and me DO NOT mix! As I was saying, I found myself in Forever 21. I must admit, I am not usually a regular shopper of Forever 21, although I do like a lot of their products - I do normally find their products to be more of a bohemian, relaxed style and I do not always fit this look. Nevertheless, as soon as I walked in I spotted exactly what I was looking for!

I am planning on going to a club night this weekend, and wanted something comfortable yet on trend to wear to it. I have had my eye on getting a pastel, baby pink skirt for a while as they are perfect to take from winter to summer, just remove the tights! However I haven't been able to find one that was just right!...Until now!:D

(It looks slightly peachy in colour in this pic but it more baby pink) - Bag yourself one now! Not available online but had just came into store today! Team with tights, casual tee and Chelsea boots for during the day. At night, either remove the tights and wear a small ankle strap heel for a sophisticated look or punk it up with cute bling and leather jacket! For a mere £12!!!

If that is not a wardrobe investment I don't know what is!

After finding this beaut, I decided I was in need of a few cute tees for during the day glam and uni, each of these tops were between £4 -£6 and don't you agree that they would go lovely with this skirt?!

AND being a big fan of monochrome and cute accessories I decided to purchase this striped bad boy which would take me from day to night in no time... (has a gorge scoop back too)! I loved this makeup bag as well and thought why not brighten up my handbag with some statement florals! cuteeeee!

So if like me you haven't shopped in Forever 21 for a while, I would suggest you get ur ass down there for some sweet bargains to update that winter wardrobe of yours!

PS sorry mum, I know I shouldn't be buying anymore haha!

Uni Style - Reuse and Revamp!

Today was my first day back at University after my Christmas exams over a week ago. It seems like such a long time since I had been there for classes, that I had forgotten what people wear to uni...haha!

As I reminded myself, anything at uni goes really...however I believe it doesn't hurt to make a little bit of an effort ( I am a fashion student afterall) haha!

So after a few days of looking through websites, blogs and magazines I came across brilliant new and exciting SS14 trends that I simply cannot wait to try out. However like everyone else in January, I am attempting to live a millionaires lifestyle on a students budget! Soooo I decided to compromise and wear clothes that I already had, adapt them slightly and add some cute accessories in an attempt to follow this seasons trends!

#1 STATEMENT COAT

I am in love with having a statement coat this season, it can really set off a cute outfit or hide an awful one when nipping to the shop for a loaf of bread so if you have any spare cash, invest in a coat that can be taken from winter to spring!

There are cute options out there from cocoon , boyfriend, and duster coats/jackets however the main style tends to follow one that you can literally "throw on" and jazz up an outfit! There are some gorgeous coats available on Topshop as well as other various sites... one of my favourites being this beauty, just a collation of several trends in one, monochrome, pattern, and oversized!

I on the other hand, have decided to adapt my current winter jacket to be more "on trend" than spend moreeee money!! Hehe!

I took this little beaut, and removed the fur to give it a more boyfriend, blazer feel!

I wore this to uni today and completely satisfied my need for a new jacket! Sooo maybe adapting, and adjusting your old clothes can be the way forward?!...

#2 FLASH OF MONOCHROME

Everywhere I look there is a bit of monochrome staring at me, whether it be stripes and spots or slogan tees. So I decided to take this baggy oversized jumper from New Look, and tuck it into my jeans and team it with a cute skinny belt for a casual look.

#3 IT'S ALL ABOUT DENIM

This season it is all about the denim, whether it be skinnys, mom jeans or shorts, wear denim for a laidback look during the day then team with heels at night for drinks.

I loved the ripped jeans look in this season, cute for showing a little bit flesh without having to shake of the layers!

#4 ACCESSORISE

To jazz up a borin outfit pop some bling on, I love any cheap little midi rings (because I loose them all) and my trusty old Michael Kors Watch! Cute but simple...
