Quinta Brunson is putting a fresh spin on a cultural icon.

The Emmy-winning creator of ‘Abbott Elementary’ has signed on to develop and star in a new feature film centered on ‘Betty Boop’ – marking the character’s first leading theatrical role in nearly a century.

Rather than a traditional remake, the project will reportedly explore the complicated relationship between Betty and her creator/animator Max Fleischer as fame, creativity, and commercial success begin to blur the lines between artist and creation.

In a statement to Variety, Brunson teased:

“Betty Boop is one of our nation’s most beloved cartoon characters, yet somehow still remains pleasantly niche, she has had a quiet but undeniable impact on culture for nearly a century. After Erin and I met with Mark and learned more about his grandfather’s creation of Betty, I realized there was a much deeper story to tell. One that could be explored in a way that feels refreshing, subversive, and timeless, much like Betty herself.”

With Brunson at the helm, the project – which will come as Boop’s first theatrical motion picture appearance in a starring role since the 1930s – already has all the markings of a clever, culture-shifting reimagining.

At writing, no tentative release date is attached to the film.

Chloe Bailey may be hard-at-work on her yet-titled third studio album as well as a reunion Chloe x Halle project with younger sister Halle Bailey, but the R&B diva is proving she’s never too busy to expand her acting resume.

The latest addition to that critically acclaimed roster of film and TV roles comes courtesy of Peacock’s forthcoming thriller ‘Strung.’

“A talented violinist [Bailey] whose new job tutoring for an elite family turns into a battle for safety and sanity when she realizes her past links to the family’s patriarch – and it’s a fight for her sanity and survival,” reads the horror movie’s official logline.

Also starring fellow R&B diva Coco Jones as well as legendary TV-film star Lynn Whitfield, ‘Strung’ is backed by a megawatt combination of producers including Tyler Perry, Tim Palen, Jason Blum, and more.

What’s more, the list above also lifts Grande’s cumulative count of Gold-certified songs to 53 – a sum that attaches her name to Bey (82), Tay (70), and Rih (58) on the countdown of women with the highest number of tunes in the same certification category.

Collectively, Ariana’s certified Stateside single sales total now sits at 137 million, making her one of the best-selling female artists in digital music history.

Among all female acts, only Rihanna (200.5 million), Beyonce (161.5 million), and Taylor Swift (137.5 million) have sold more.

When all artists are considered, Drake reigns at #1 with 277.5 million singles sold in the USA.

Before Sunday (May 17), Chris Brown reigned in Hot 100 history books as the most-decorated male R&B vocalist in the chart’s 67-year history.

In fact, with 123 entries to his credit at the time, he even tied longtime industry pal Justin Bieber for the highest placement count among all male singers regardless of genre.

Thanks to the arrival of songs from his latest top 10 album, ‘BROWN,’ however, Chris can now claim the overall title by his lonesome.

Beyond seeing his ‘BROWN’ album debut at #7 on the Billboard 200 this week, ‘Honey Pack‘ and ‘For the Moment‘ – two previously uncharted cuts from the 27-song project – landed on the updated Hot 100 at #92 and #85 respectively.

The additions push his career-long count on the all-genre hitlist to 125 – the most of any male singer to ever grace the chart.

Among all artists, however, rapper Drake (362) and Pop diva Taylor Swift (276) are the titleholders for most entries. In fact, Drizzy seems poised to extend that jaw-dropping record thanks to his three-album drop last week.

During her appearance on ‘Club Shay Shay,’ the newewst addition to the ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ was asked if she would ever do a Verzuz battle, and without hesitation, she said yes and made it very clear who she had in mind. 

The singer referenced her opponent as the ‘Muppet,’ a nickname that has been at the center of their ongoing feud for years.

For those unfamiliar, the term traces back to Tamar’s time on the daytime show ‘The Real’, where she revealed that someone had called her a Muppet, and K. Michelle has never let it go.

What made the moment even more shocking was that Shannon Sharpe had no idea who she was referring to, which led K. Michelle to start describing the person in detail, referencing teeth and a situation involving a married man. 

As previously reported, Tamar was involved in a situation that allegedly resulted in her losing her teeth, making the description hard to miss for anyone paying attention.

Safe to say this beef has no expiration date, even a decade later.

‘Married to Medicine’ star Dr. Heavenly Kimes has fallen short in her bid for Georgia State Representative, but she isn’t walking away empty-handed.

Dr. Heavenly was running in the Democratic primary to represent Georgia’s 13th District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

This bold move turned heads in both politics and reality television. 

While she didn’t secure the win, the feat was far from a defeat, as she garnered over 17,000 votes and congratulated the primary winner, Rep. Jasmine Clark, with grace and class.

In a message to her supporters, Dr. Heavenly shared:

 “No matter what, I am so proud of what we built together. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everybody who believed in me, prayed for me, donated, volunteered, canvassed, texted, called voters, put up signs, and stood beside me through this journey.”

She also reminded her supporters of the bigger picture, telling them, ‘We made history.’

The trailer for ‘Rolling Loud The Movie’ dropped on May 19. The comedy follows Wilson’s character as he brings his teenage son to the hip-hop festival and loses him in a crowd of 60,000 people.

Scott appears as himself, consoling Wilson. “The lengths you go to find your kid, that’s some superhero, super father s–t,” he says.

Live Nation Studios produced the film. The cast also includes Sexyy Red, Ty Dolla $ign, Ski Mask the Slump God, and comedian Matt Rife. The movie hits U.S. theaters on October 2.

But the trailer quickly sparked backlash.

Critics on social media pointed to the 2021 Astroworld tragedy, where 10 people died during Scott’s headlining set. Eight were pronounced dead on the day of the festival. Hundreds more were injured.

“You cannot ignore the history here,” one user wrote on X. Another called the casting “almost offensively tone deaf.”
