Expressing beautiful art through sand and earth

2010-04-29T01:40:00.002+07:00

Most people have probably written in the sand several times, whether it was in the sandbox in kindergarden or on a beach during a summer vacation. But artist and surfer Jim Denevan has taken the sand writing to a whole new level. He uses a simple driftwood stick to create large-scale beach drawings that is mostly geometric circles and shapes.

Other people that have expressed their art in the same way are Japanese farmers that turn rice fields into spectacular drawings.

Really Amazing Wooden Sculptures by Michael Rea

2010-04-29T01:24:00.001+07:00

Michael masters the art of crafting wood into sculptures of objects that are normally symbolized with materials such as metal, glass or plastic. Wood undergoes renaissance on passing through the hands of the characteristic mentor, who reads ’sublime is unattainable,’ yet very subtly nullifies the notion. The extremely detailed woodwork, ranging from sculptures of things used in space, in war, under the water or to play some melodious music, it’s all a result of his memory, ‘thought’ as I put it above.

"Transformers" and other sculptures made out of polystyrene

2010-04-28T11:26:00.001+07:00

Polystyrene are mostly used to protect articles from breaking when sent in packages. A professor of digital arts at University of Oregon, Michael Salter, uses polystyrene to make robot sculptures, formula cars and bikes. His biggest sculpture is a 22 feet tall robot surrounded with small robots to make passers-by keep distance so they don’t accidentally knock it over. Salter creates the sculptures by cutting the polystyrene in pieces and gluing them together, and it took him several months to do it.

Tiny cement sculptures melting into the streets

2010-04-25T00:04:00.001+07:00

The artist behind this work is Isaac Cordal from London. The figures are all made in cement and is about 10 inches big. They represent how the man leaves his citizen role and becomes one with the city, almost like camouflage. The art work is something between sculpture and photography, because the photographs of the sculptures in different settings are used as a witness in later exhibitions.
