This is my second shoot with Daniella, the first one I'm still editing. It's hard because I love them all so much. I met her through Model Mayhem and she is just the best! We both love vintage clothes and pinup so much! There will definitely be a lot more posts with her coming up! She's so fun and way cooler than I was at that age... :)

I'm currently working on a new website, www.michelle-terris.squarespace.com, this is the in progress link. My boyfriend helped me come up with a 3 month plan to get my photography moving and grooving, finally! Only took 2 years, or maybe even longer, to finally figure out a direction I want to go in. Hello fellow bloggers! I hope you all have been having a great time getting ready for the holidays! I have been shooting like crazy lately! (Actually, I wish I could do it more but that job that gives me money and health insurance wont give it to me without working full time so as much as I can!) I've been super backed up when it comes to editing but I recently bough myself the greatest Christmas gift and it's got me so excited to edit photos! Have ya'll heard of VSCO Film? They make an app for your phone thats filled with fun filters. I recently bought their packaged for Lightroom and oh my gosh they were worth every penny! They are so wonderful!

So I vowed to take today, and hopefully more days this week, to edit photos and update all my sites! Because shits about to get real! I want to start doing more and more photography and I want everything updated! These are some lovely photos of my beautiful cousin Gina. When I went home for Thanksgiving we were finally able to squeeze in a little time between cooking and eating to take some photos. Being the oldest of all the cousins it's so crazy to see how big they are now and that they're going to go off to college, or some other exciting new adventure, so soon! And the realization that I graduated from college about 2 1/2 years ago is sinking in right now.... mehhhh

The clothes are either thrifted or from Gina's closet and the flowers carnations from Vons and I added some leaves from the tree outside our house. Oh and of course the American Flag is from my favorite flea market, so far, the Fairfax High School flea market, which is every Sunday, you must check it out!

Work!

About two weeks ago my co-worker Arnold asked me if I would be able to help shoot some photos of clothing for a boutique he and his friend Anthony work for. These pieces of clothing, along with tons more, will be part of their bosses new online store. I am not quite sure on the exact date of the website launch but I'll be sure to keep ya'll posted.

What's funny about this shop is that two years ago I was assigned to photograph this very boutique for the SF Chronicle when I was interning there. When I first walked in I thought that the place looked so familiar and asked Arnold if there were more of these boutiques elsewhere. He informed me that this was the only one in which I replied, "OMG Arnold I've been here before!" I even found the story and photos that I took framed outside. (Above)

I also found out today, which Anthony informed me so nonchalantly, was that the owner of this boutique is going to be a contestant in the upcoming season of Project Runway! How freaking awesome is that!! Congrats!

I think this dress is just darling, it's just too bad that it fits me kind of awkwardly. Its pretty tight around my waist but loose in the shoulders and upper half. If only it fit better, I would love to wear it more places. At one time I was considering dying the dress a different color, so I could wear it out more. But alas.

I enjoyed this shoot, I did it against the white wall in our spare bedroom and basically threw the dress on and some makeup and went for it. I recently saw a sneak peak of Adored Vintage's (an amazing little company that sells the cutest vintage clothes! Future post on them in the making!) wedding shoot for Thrifty Hunter Magazine and became super inspired. With limited time but itching to shoot something, these photos were born. And I really enjoy them. I love making diptic's and these are sick.

So I do not believe I have shared the good news! I've been working for this fashion start up called Stitch Fix for almost 6 months now and on Tuesday I was taught how to style! (My next post will be more about what Stitch Fix is but here's the gist of it.) Stitch Fix is a women's online styling start up where women can go fill out a an online profile all about themselves, sharing information such as body type, type of style you resonate best with, eg: boho, preppy, classic etc., and what occasion you'd like the clothes for: work, a fun summer wedding or vacation, or you just want to spruce up your wardrobe, every client gets their own personal stylist. The stylist chooses 5 items for the client, usually 4 clothing and one accessory piece. The items are then shipped off to the customer and if the customer likes all the items she checks out online and if not sends them back and only pays a $20 styling fee.

I get to add in one new item for every missing item in a client's fix before it gets shipped off. I love it! I even went out this weekend and bought some fashion magazines to read up on what styles work best for different body types. I'd say that this has been the best type of homework I can ever remember having! If my job is keeping up with the latest trends and figuring out which clothing pieces work best for each client then sign me up. I hope I get to style more and more in the upcoming months!

Locked Out

Here are some photos from a shoot I did back in January. I was fortunate enough to work with a wonderful model named Tahnia (Go like her facebook page here). She was lots of fun to work with and a great sport considering I took her someplace off the highway in Half Moon Bay where she had to run across the highway and then walk around barefoot through sticks and leaves. Trooper. At one point during our shoot I ran to my car and grabbed another lens then locked the door and ran back thinking nothing of it. We finished the shoot and walked back to our cars and I started to rummage around for my keys, at the same time saying bye to Tahnia. Before she even drove off I had soon realized what I had done, I had locked my keys in my car on the side of the highway in the middle of winter. My first thought was, naturally, "FUCK!"

Luckily I some how thought to bring my phone with me during the shoot and was able to google AAA's number and plead with them to look me up in their system and come save me. I talked with 3 different receptionists because I am registered with AAA in So. Cal and they couldn't find me anywhere in their Nor. Cal system, which after we figured that out made the process a lot smoother. Finally one receptionist found me, mind you I had already been out in the cold for almost an hour trying to stand in any patch of sun I could find on the side of the road. So step one complete, AAA was coming for me but step two, where was I on the highway? "Ummmm I'm going ummm north on the 92 freeway towards the ocean?" I told the woman, "Alright...Well I'll send someone your way and hopefully they can find you," she said. After about an hour of waiting for AAA I saw a yellow and blue truck come around and I frantically waved my arms and waited for the kind man to find a place to turn around and unlock my door, which he did in 5 min or less. Moral of the story Michelle should always have 10 extra spare keys on her at all times!

Salvation Mountain

I've abandoned my blog this past winter. With a new full time job, new friends, new boyfriend, and personal goals, that I am currently trying to figure out, my blog unfortunately fell below the waistline. But in an effort to figure out what to do next in my life, creatively speaking, I am going to make a big effort to bring back fashion, journalistic, music, and, inspiration posts. I also work with a lot of beautiful ladies so hopefully you will be able to see some of them and their great styles on here as well!

These are some photos from a trip I took back in November from a trip to Salvation Mountain out in Slab City. Slab City is way out in the desert near the border of CA and Mexico. Out there is a huge art piece called Salvation Mountain. There are little nooks and crannies in the mountain filled with messages, photos, and idols where people can remember loved ones or just go and explore. I was able to make it out there with my friend David and cousin Taylor, who were kind enough to follow my inaccurate directions and make our 3 hour trip into 4 1/2 hour one without too many complaints.

I realize my blog hasn't been getting updated as much as it used to. My excitement for it has...not dwindled but changed. The outfit posts are not as exciting to me as they once were and I would like to take my blog in a new direction, I am just not sure where... I even have at least 5 outfit posts lined up that I still have not put up! (But those are coming because I still want to share them!)

My love for fashion and photography is still the same and I still really want to improve my blog and attract more readers and all those goals that all us bloggers have. I want to keep all the lovely readers I have now but I am just not sure what to post... So right now this blog will...be an experiment! I appreciate you still following me and seeing where this goes! I promise not to abandon you blog! The collage, above, are previews of where I might like to take my blog-crafts, photography, trips, and fashion editorial type photography (was what I was toying with.)

Back in November I was fortunate enough to meet and photograph a super sweet couple's engagement photos. My very first engagement shoot! We went out to Half Moon Bay down to the beach to take some photos, which was when I realized how awesome Half Moon Bay is! I met them through the same ad that I put up for my first wedding shoot (Wedding Post). If anyone's getting engaged I would love to take your photos! Hope you all like them!

I am lucky that my dad and I have such similar taste in music. He has two big bins in our garage filled with records, and they are all great. From Bob Dylan's 'Blood on the Tracks' (one of my all time favorite Dylan albums) to Bruce Springsteen's epic tale of youth and uncertainty, the mind blowing 'Born to Run.' When I went home for Thanksgiving I took out my dad's record player and rummaged through a ton of his records for this shoot. I can't wait to someday have a place in my home where I can have all his records on display.

I had forgotten my tripod so my mom was a trooper and helped me take these photos in my room at home! (Thanks Mom!) The dress was a great thrifted find by Kelty, which, I wasn't sure would fit me at first but luckily Kelty has a good eye! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!

Tumbling Through The Forest

I ended up going to Half Moon Bay last weekend to take some engagement photos for a couple I had met and realized that Half Moon Bay was 1) super close to my house (why had I not been there sooner!) and 2) so many potential places for photo shoots! So I went back the next morning, pulled my car over on some small turn out, waited about 15 min to cross the highway and then climbed through the forest...in platform shoes (the one time I wear any kind of high heeled shoe is the day I decide to hike...typical) to this beautiful spot. What I never like is taking photos where people can see me ( I feel like they are all thinking..."what is she doing taking photos of herself!"), but unfortunately a lot of good backgrounds require people seeing you, but not in nature! The pants weren't much help in keeping me from tripping but they're just so purdy. I bought them back when I was working at Anthroplogie. I remember seeing them when I first got hired and they asked us to put together outfits. I picked those out right away. I had never owned/worn pants like these before but they just called to me. Eventually they went on sale and I got them for $20 bucks! (Compared to what I remember being over $100 dollars.)

I don't know if I've mentioned working at Anthroplogie before but I used to work at the one by my house in So. California and it was just so fun. It was when I really got into fashion. All the girls were so sweet and stylish that it motivated me to join in (plus that discount didn't hurt). When I moved I transfered to the Anthroplogie in Palo Alto and it..just wasn't the same. I'll always remember the good times at the Thousand Oaks Anthro!

I am starting to get more into wedding photography so I posted an add on Craigslist asking if anyone was looking for a free wedding photographer, since it would be my first one, and I got a response from a wonderful couple, Lora and Bryan. They were so sweet and such a beautiful couple, I was so lucky to have met them for my first wedding. Their whole family and all their guests were so welcoming. It was amazing! (Their original photographer bailed on them, rude!) They were such a fun bunch, everyone had colored hair and tattoos! My favorite kind of people haha. So here are some photos! I got this bad boy in the mail today from Go Jane. I am not usually one to buy things offline, although I am starting to like it more and more, but when I saw this I had to get it, and it was affordably priced.

This photo was a happy accident, my paper weight dude happened to be the perfect spot for my bracelet. The book, "On the Road," is my dad's, my dad has a lot of great stuff from when he was young that I'll continue to share with you. And of course some Bruce action! 'Tunnel of Love', an excellent album about the changes relationships can experience. I just got it from the record shop, Vinyl Solutions, on my favorite street (For more on my favorite street!) Now what outfit to plan around this bracelet? Hmmmm

Family Ties

I've been neglecting my poor blog this past week but I am back! This past weekend I went home and had a fun little photo shoot with my cousin. Up the street from my house there is an abandoned horse ranch, which used to have a house and a lot of other cool abandoned buildings, but have since been torn down. All that's left now is this little shed. I love going over there to take photos but Simi Valley can sometimes be a creepy place, especially in an abandoned field, so I recruited my cousin to join me. Luckily she's a champ and came with me! I feel so fortunate that my family is so close. I am an only child so being close with my cousins is great! I consider my aunts to also be like second mothers. I am really lucky! Here's a photo of my mom, aunts, me, and grandma after having giant breakfast. We always have fun little get togethers, I love them.

Now for the dress! My dress is by Neiman Marcus I found it at a used clothing store called 'Black and Brown' in San Jose. It used to have long sleeves and go down to my feet but I cut off the sleeves and my super talented grandmother shortened it for me. It's gorgeous and a great find! I love finding things like this because they are so unique and you can easily make them modern looking! I hope everyone is enjoying their extra hour! I know I am!

Oh that color. This dress was a great find at a nearby thrift store in San Carlos. After a long day of garage sailing Kelty and I decided to stop by a thrift store, that she had seen before, and boy was that a good idea! We got to the shop and scourged through the racks of clothing and I found another dress, a blazer, and a great big comfy sweater (that I am excited to post on here soon!) Thrift stores are where it's at.

It was a windy day so I made sure my camera wasn't goin' no where! Bungeed that bad boy up!

So I just have a funny little anecdote about this photo shoot. I went out last Sunday to look for someplace new to take photos and I found this shop in Burlingame, that I thought was closed, and I set up my tripod and camera and right when I started taking photos the door opened and the owner said, "What's going on here?" and slightly embarrassed, but probably not as much as I should have been, I said "oh! I'm sorry I thought no one was here," which he then responded with "There's always someone here..." ok.. cool... so after a brief explanation about blogs and what that is he let me take some photos. Just goes to show ya, there's usually someone on the other side of that door.

So I recently got a temporary job working for this big corporate company and as you might be able to tell, I am not very corporate. It's alright, but a big problem is that I sit all the time. I sit on my way to work in traffic, all day in my cubicle, and on the way home in even more traffic. I don't really get to talk to anyone and I definitely do not gather any new stories to tell, unlike my old job as a K-12 photographer, those kids provided endless amounts of material! (And I had awesome coworkers which, NEVER hurts).

I don't know how I feel about this 9-5 lifestyle. I am just hoping I can find another job that suites me better, but even I am not really sure what that would be. Funny how when I was in college I thought by the time I finished I would have everything down...nope, not even close. Actually worse off than before! Oh life, you crazy s.o.b. On the plus side I did decorate my cubicle (below) and it looks amazing. I hung up some old life magazine, using that same wire hanging technique I used for the books in my living room (Here), and strung up some old photos that I've collected from antique stores and flea markets. All it needs now is a Bruce Springsteen picture and I am all set.

I have been wanting to show you all my leopard print sweater that I got from Urban Outfitters for awhile now because I literally wear it almost everyday, so much so that I am afraid it's going to start getting holes and then it will be curtains for my favorite sweater. When I first tried it on at home I realized that it matched my hair and I yelled to Kelty, "oh my god this sweater matches my hair" which I first thought might be too much but now it just makes me love that sweater even more. So here's my take on your not so classic 9-5 business attire.

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass 2012 went a little something like this:

Friday Night- Ohhhhh man it is taking forever to be Saturday. Can't sleep! Must sleep! (It was like Christmas eve for me man!)

Saturday Morning 7:00 am- Alarm went off, "YES! IT'S TIME!" (I didn't literally scream that, just in my head. I have roommates after all).

8:30 am: Headed to Caltrain. There were about 5 major events happening in the city that weekend, no way was I driving!

9:50 ish am: In SF! Now which bus to take...? I swear I used to know my way around the city so much better, but a year of being away and all I remembered was Golden Gate Park isn't towards Fishermen's Warf, don't go that way.

10:15 am: On the packed bus with other Hardly Strictly participants. Chatted about which bands we wanted to see, last year's festival, and how to get to which stages.

11:00 am: Off the bus, made it! Could run... but shouldn't. Now where is Rooster Stage. (They had the best names for all the stages: Banjo, Rooster, Arrow, Towers, Star, and Porch.) I made it just in time to see the band I wanted to see, The Wronglers.
*Side story* Last year I interned with the SF Chronicle, as a photographer, and one of my very first assignments was to tag along on an interview where I got to meet Warren Hellman, who is the man who started HSB, and Jimmie Dale Gilmore. Warren Hellman and Jimmie Dale started up their own folk group called "The Wronglers." Jimmie Dale Gilmore, for any Big Lebowski fans out there, played Smokey in the movie. My dad and I are huge fans of the movie and when I met him I swore his voice sounded so familiar but I could not place it. Later I went home and did a little research and discovered that awesome piece of information and was bummed I didn't know sooner, so I could tell him that I was a huge fan!
Anyways, after the interview me and a staff photographer got to go back and take photos of the whole group practicing. Thank goodness that other photographer was there, because I was too busy smiling and soaking in all the glorious music that was filling the room to take any photos! (Although I have some and I can't find them anywhere! But when I do I will add them to this post!) And after that I became a fan! So naturally I raced over to the stage, where they were playing, and made it just in time. It was a somber event for the Wronglers this year, and everyone at the festival really,Warren Hellman recently passed away and this was their first HSB without him. They did a great set in honor of Warren and I was so glad to have heard it.

12:00 pm: I walked over to the Banjo Stage and planted myself there for awhile, people watched like crazy, and listened to some fiddles and banjos being played. Fiddles and banjos everywhere! A dream come true!

1:00 pm: After the previous set I decided to grab some lunch and when I returned quickly realized that the walk way up to the front of the stage was gone. The later it got the more packed it became.

3:00 pm: After enjoying the sun by the Banjo Stage I noticed that the music was getting harder and harder to hear and so I needed to move up, which was easier said than done. Luckily it was just me and planted myself in a small spot closer to the stage and listened to Emmy Lou Harris (and Jimme Dale made a 2nd appearance during this set!) and some other great performers!

4:30 pm: After that set I looked around me and realized that it had gotten even more packed at the park and that it was probably a good time to leave. It was great getting there early, nice light, small crowds, really into it fans, but by the afternoon all of those things sort of dwindled away.

So all in all it was a successful festival. The only bummer was that I didn't have anyone to come with me and Caltrain turned out to be more than I expected so I couldn't go back on Sunday. But next year I'll be rich and I'll go all 3 days! ;-)

Ok, so I know I said I would have this posted yesterday, and not at 9pm the day before the festival...but man... I was tired last night! Sitting in traffic and working all week can do that to a gal! But today I made a point of waking up early and getting to work at 8, instead of 9, so I could book it out of there by 4pm and miss traffic, and that my friends is exactly what happened! Normally I get home at close to 8pm everyday so today was super. I also got to go back to my favorite street (the one where the block party was held) and bough some film for tomorrow (!!yay!!) and became friends with the cigar shop guy. I love everyone on that street! (and... they love me:). When I left he said "please come back again!" So I am going to snap some photos of that place for you all to see! Alright so here are some outfits that I came up with. So two things I tried to think of when picking these outfits: 1) I get cold very easily so yes, all these layers are necessary, and 2) I am going to be there all day walking around taking photos so I would like to be comfortable. (I am sorry these are all cell phone photos, but I don't have much time tonight and I promise the other posts will be nicer!) I THINK i might be leaning towards the very last outfit for Saturday and then the skirt/brown sweater one for Sunday, but it depends on how cold I am saturday. The only problem with the bottom one is that it's not super warm. But I'll quit putting in my opinions and let you decide! Merci mes amies!

I found that earring at a flea market in Melrose, which I highly recommend checking out, it's at Fairfax high school. Hands down one of my favorites!

I wrapped some wire around a few books and voila! Wall decorations! These bad boys have been gracing my walls with their presence since 2010.

At first I was a little reluctant to admit that fall was coming. I love summer. I love being warm, not having to wear a bunch of layers, and I love joining in with my fellow So. Cal folk about how " I can't believe it's October and it's 100 degrees!!" But this year I am living in the bay area, where there are actual seasons. (Except for these past few days where it has been weirdly super hot...but you know, I ain't complaining). ;) And even though it was getting colder and colder, I was still trying to wear my tank tops, dresses, and skirts with just a light jacket (unsuccessfully I might add). Until my friend Alex reminded me of our embracing fall together tradition. It started last year, when I didn't want to accept fall then either, she came to visit during a time when I was going through a rough breakup (those are shitty, right?), with my then boyfriend of 6 years. I started telling her how I wasn't ready to accept fall, that I couldn't believe that 4 months had already passed since school ended, I moved home, my relationship ended, and that I was still in the same place I was 4 months ago. I wasn't ready for time to keep moving if I couldn't keep moving with it. And then somehow we got on the topic of Starbucks and how you know it's fall and there is nothing you can do about it once pumpkin spice latte's come around. And then, like the grown up people we are, we decided F that! We are going to move foreword and we will celebrate moving foreword, and fall, with pumpkin spice lattes! So as soon as she reminded me that it was pumpkin spice latte time again I was ready to embrace fall with open arms. Suddenly my whole attitude towards fall changed and I was all, " I love coats! And Scarfs! And Halloween! And all holidays! YAY it's fall!" Target didn't help the situation either! Suddenly everything was a glorious forest green, tan, burgundy, and auburn color. And halloween decorations were for sale! (Which, wait till you see the photo of this glorious door matt I got, below). So I decided to put together my most fall-esque colors and welcome fall with open arms!

I decided to change it up a little this time, these photos were taken inside my living room, instead of my backyard, which is actually a great spot because we don't have any furniture! (We just moved in 2 months ago and we are picky...) But what it lacks in furniture it makes up for in glorious wall decorations. That map, behind me, is from a little antique store that Kelty and I found when we took our first epic road trip to Moscow, Idaho to visit a friend. It was, I think, only 10 dollars? And the best $10 I have ever spent. I love it. (But what's new, I love all my antiques). It is an old chalk board school map. Some people have made the crazy suggestion that we buy chalk and people can write on it...no. But, we have put pins on the map and these neat playing cards we found on our drive back from Idaho in Oregon at, get this, an antique mall! We saw the sign while we were on the highway and we both were all "well...I'll go if you want to go." Fortunately we are on the same page on just about everything and spent too much time at this little town filled with antique stores! Heaven. So I think I will definitely do a post on my home when it is more complete, so I wont share all the stories just yet! And besides... I have already written a ton! (Sheesh! I talked more about my antiques than my clothing this time! But needless to say I am excited for fall and I hope you are too!) Also I am going to need your opinions on which outfits to wear this weekend so expect that either tomorrow or Thursday! :)
