Hive of activity at wella salon. Each girl getting a personal consultation. My consultant recommended various shades of blonde...yay. I was over the red. We first cleansed excess red out. Then a 1% bleach was applied to lighten all over. They then colored the roots. illumina premium color with color id mixed in, was added in sections (that would suit my fine hair type & hair cut) Color id forms a matrix around the color to stop it mixing in with the color placed on top/below. For more information on Wella Color. ID look at the wella Australia website. Color id also can decrease use of foil (which adds to environmental waste) the colorist doesn't have to wash her hands or change gloves in between colors, meaning less time for a whole head of color. The process is sped up with the wella heat pod ( no fans to dry out your hair and scalp and no steam to dilute the color...making you feel like you're in the jungle). Overall, wella color. ID saves your time spent in the salon just on color. you'll have extra time for a great cut and blow dry. The wella system allows you to get a wella permanent straightening and color done on the same day without ruining your hair. Wella Color. For those looking to be on trend this season, #pantone #coloroftheyear is #radiantorchid. A gorgeous pink/blue based purple tone. My tip for wearing it on the eyes successfully, is to use a peach concealer under the eye to counteract the shadows this color can bring out. Co-ordinate with an orchid blush and deeper lipstick with a shimmering lip gloss. I have to admit, I've not been to Bali, stories of "Bali Belly", traffic nightmares, and KUTA backpackers were slightly off putting. Then of course the bali bombings which were terrible.

Bali has made a comeback as a tourist attraction with lots of quiet areas great for singles and families or ladies going for a spa week, which is what brings me to this post.

I've had quite a few friends who go to Bali regularly for this type of vacation, they come back looking and feeling relaxed and radiant.

Ive had spa treatments here in Australia, and in Thailand. The Asian type spas dominated over the ones i've had here. The 5 things I would personally want in a spa, besides cleanliness obviously will follow.

1:- I would want to stay in a hotel with a reputation for having a fabulous spa, as traveling distances in traffic in Bali where you feel hot and your tension rises...so the first thing I would love in a spa retreat is to have it in a secluded resort in the hills of Bali.
Can you imagine, leisurely breakfast by the resort pool, followed by a short stroll to your private spa in your resort complex. The bonus, you can charge the cost of this back to your room, saving the need for carrying around cash to pay for the cost of treatments plus the tip of course.

2:- Organic products that are sourced locally, and fair trade where possible.
OF COURSE...I wouldn't possibly ever knock European or USA products, they are wonderful and do their job well, but when I am in Bali, what I would be looking for are organic, locally sourced skincare and body treatments from Bali high in natural oils where profits also go back to the farmer.

3:- Spa therapist who are trained and English as a second language, so you can tell them if the massage is suiting you and they understand and change the amount of firmness etc.
I've had some nightmare massages here in Sydney, left with bruising, dizziness, and really sore body from untrained people...I've learnt from experience that CHEAP, doesn't mean GOOD, and someone who's untrained can really do some damage.
The scary things is now, there are so many "medi-spa" places and you hear horror stories of permanent damage from some treatments administered by untrained people.
Qualified therapists are high on the priority, so you know you will have a fantastic treatment with someone who knows a lot about what they're doing.

4:- Before I forget to mention it...being on a secluded resort on a hill means...views to die for. I can just imagine it now...sunset treatment, overlooking a terrace of rice paddies and jungle views with NATURALLY an infinity view pool with fairy lights, floating flowers and a warm breeze...am I asking for too much? Following the massage, the open sky shower to rinse off the exfoliating products, hopping in the rose petal deep bath to relax (as if, you wouldn't feel like you're already in heaven) then the 2 hour, 2 person massage..maybe one when you're floating in that infinity view pool.

5:- I spoke earlier about cheap massages and not getting a great result in Sydney (actually a painful result) but I feel this isn't the case in Bali. Balinese spas are based on good reputations and word of mouth, and of course reviews like you would read on a blog page such as mine.
People like a spa treatment in Bali as you won't pay as much as you will in Sydney, for one thing, costs are lower for staff, and that means, you can have a fantastic treatment, for a lot less. Even with tips, you would pay less.
Hotel's in Bali are expected to also have a spa of equal quality, people do expect a lot, for a lot less, and Bali's spa have to deliver.

You can either get all bent out of shape about it, call someone a bitch and get your panties in a bunch if they didn't like your idea or product, or use it as an opportunity for growth and to improve.
After all, only small children want to be surrounded by yes people!

This is my first restaurant review, so please, bear with me.

A great new bar with Chinese 20's theme has opened in 49 York St. Sydney. NSW.

The manager happened to come into an event I was attending just around the corner, and gave us an invitation to go see it.

It's called Uncle Mings, and is inspired by 1920's China.

It has Chinese "tapas" consisting of Dumplings in 3 flavors, Gow Gee in 2 varieties, Pork Dim SIms, and BBQ Duck buns. And a dessert menu of Red Bean Buns.

I tried the Pork dumplings, and they were really DELICIOUS, I thoroughly enjoyed them :) at $7.40 for 3, it's a nice tapas style snack.

I was driving, so just had a coke, but the bar has a good variety of wine and beer (Chinese, and Japanese), starting from $7.50 per glass, CIDER, SAKE (a fave) Japanese and Scottish whiskey, bourbon (naturally) Rum, Vodka, Gin and other liquors, so something to please anyone really.
They also have a small cocktail list, with cocktails that are unique, and a little bit unusual at least, from sweet, to a chilli style cocktail....how cool is that?

I would suggest you go and have a looksie, have some dumplings and a cold wine or beer if you're in the city as they are open to midnight most nights, and GOD knows, theres NOTHING much else to do in the city weeknights after 5.

PS, for the ladies, the lighting is EXTREMELY flattering :)

A'kin rose hip oil

I was recently sent the A'kin rosehip oil to try and blog about by The Purist company.
I have used various oils on my skin with great success, and had heard a lot about the benefits of pure rose hip oil.
A'kin's pure rose hip oil, contains one ingrendient...rose hip oil. No fillers, no silicons, no dimethicones, no water, no mineral oils or anything like that.
It's certified organic too, BONUS.
ROse-hip oil is knows for healing, moisturizing the skin, and making the skin feel softer and smoother. It contains pro-vitamin A, Vitamin E and omega 9, 3, and 6.
AND....it's cheap as chips.
It retails for around $16 or so for the small dropper bottle 23ml, and trust me when i say, a little bit goes a real long way. I would dare say, the small bottle would last 3 months easily. AND at THAT price, it makes having nice skin actually affordable for anyone.
I've been using 2 drops twice daily and following with a rosehip moisturizer for around 2 weeks now. It doesnt cause breakouts and makeup sits nicely on top of it too. The box recommends 3-4 drops, but as i said, around 2 drops is enough for my skin and neck area. I gently press it into the skin after i cleanse and tone. I use the A'kin rose-hip spray toner, which I already had, and I find this makes the product spread very easily.
You can mix a little bit of the oil into your hand cream too, as winter tends to dry out and age the hands unfortunately.
So far, after 2 plus weeks of using the oil, I am wrapped. It works better than a regular serum in my opinion, and you KNOW it's pure and natural with nothing man made or artificial made-up ingrendients that would take a cosmetic chemist degree to decifer.

TRILOGY ROSE HIP Skin care moisturizer YES IT WORKS

I hadn't tried trilogy products before and saw that the Australian Woman's Weekly had a free generous sized sample tube as a promotion last month.
I was really impressed with it. You could smell the essential oils immediately, giving a nice relaxing feeling.
The cream itself is nice and light and goes a long way.
I would highly recommend using a rose hip oil underneath to get the best results you want.
The rose hip oil contained in the cream is certified organic as is the marula and orange flower.

Atlantis at home hair colour by O&M

I recently bought and tried Atlantis at home hair colour, it's a home colour but different, as it's not full of nasty chemicals that make your eyes hurt and your head itch.
Very easy to use on previouly coloured hair for regrowth or on uncoloured hair.
I bought the shade closest to my own hair colour (Natural Blonde #8)
The instructions are really easy to follow too, the product consists of a powder hair colour, which you add to warm water, shake and apply according to the instruction.
The hair colour can be used as a semi or as a permanent colour, the only thing it wont do is lighten the hair, so choose one that's close to your hair colour or a shade or two deeper.

The thing about most home hair colouring is, that it burns my scalp, Atlantis doesn't!!!
The first photo in the purple dress shows my original hair colour...yeah, it's OK, but not really a shiny colour or anything.

Cut to Atlantis...shine, softness, and more imporntant, no nasty yukky ingrendients, no stinks, no stingy eyes or burning hair, and it doesnt contain any bleach, so you can't really fry your hair off.
The Second photo shows after i used Atlantis, left on as per instructions. I also had pink hair balayage, which it didnt completely cover, but it blends in it real nice. This is also just after shampooing and conditioning with O&M and no blow dry.
I can't tell you too much about the ingrendients IN IT, or what they leave out, as I'm not a hairdresser, but DAMN girlfriend, it's good!

I believe Atlantis Water Colour Home hair colour retails for around $26.
I got mine at the Natural Marketplace in Rozelle.

PS, you can also buy this colour in a clear gloss to add shine to the hair at ANYTIME you want :)

Mira's Hand Pure Argan Oil review

I am a follower of a few nieche beauty brands on twitter, and couldnt pass up the opportunity when offered by Mira's Hand to try their product.

I was given Mira's Hand 100% pure Argan oil.

To be honest, i had tried other brands of moroccan type argan oil, and was fairly pleased with the results, so was happily surprised with the difference that is Mira's Hand Argan oil.

For starters, Mira's Hand is 100% argan oil, no silicons, no dimethicones, no added fragrance etc, no added extra anything.

It comes in a dark glass bottle with dropper, unlike the other brands which have pumps, so you only use very little product each time, basically, you only need about 3 drops if that.

I tried it in a number of different ways:

First, as a skin moisturizer, 2 drops after my cleanser and spray toner, and patted it into my skin. My skin felt moisturized, but not oily, and I didnt experience any breakouts with it either.

You can also mix it into moisturizer, or use it as a serum before moisturizer.

I used it as a hair serum, just smoothing it over fly aways.

You can also add it to hair treatments., or just use it straight onto the scalp (mine gets irritated and red quite a bit) and it wont make your hair look dank and oily.

I mixed it with lip balm to soothe cracked lips.

I also used it neat on my lips without any problems on the cracked skin.

Mixed well with cuticle cream for dry nails and hands.

Tried on some rough patches of skin on my arm, and it felt a lot smoother afterwards.

I added a couple of drops into my foundation, so the foundation looked a bit more dewey.

I mixed it with mineral foundation to turn it into a concealer for the eye area...YES, in the eye area, the most sensitive area of my face, and no problems at all.

I mixed it with powder blush to make a cream blush.

Also mixed it with lipstick to make a treatment lippie.

I also used it to make cream eye shadow. Again, no eye irritation.

I tried it on a few cuts on my skin to soothe, again...all good.

This is a great all rounder product, all natural, without added nasties.
Would I buy it...YES I WOULD!!!

It's the Christmas season, and lots of you go away for holidays, and blog about the holiday, and what you're doing and how long you are away for and where you're going etc.
Fun to read about for sure, but ask yourself, who else is reading your blog???

Many of you, link your twitter page to your blog and vice versa. You also link it to a webpage and a facebook page. It doesn't take an ordinary person very long to find your surname, and the area where you live. White pages and other online directories tells me and everyone else in the world where you live. You've just blogged that you're on holidays and for how long. It's like putting a sign outside your house saying your house is EMPTY!!! Want to be an easy target for thieves? No, I don't think you do.

A Jurlique follow up on skincare

I went to one of my first blogger nights several months ago courtesy of Jurlique and their PR company Torstar.
I wanted to do a 3 month follow up on their awesome skincare anti-ageing range.

We were given on the night a serum, face cream and eye cream.
I've been using them consistently since being given the products.
The jurlique system is nice and easy. Cleanse with the cleanser appropriate for your skin, tone with their spray on toner, and apply serum, moisturizer and eye cream.
I've noticed the products arent oily on my combination skin, there's been no break outs what-so-ever, and my skin has felt moisturized, and hydrated.
The thing about jurlique is that they are quite under-rated, they dont advertise much or have the big name celebrity endorsement. What you see is what you get :)
Great Aussie made product, not expensive, well researched, and it delivers what it sets out to.
Overall, great products. 4 stars.

RESTYLANE Day Moisturizer review

I won Restylane moisturizer on a twitter competition, and have been using it for several months now.
When i first tried it, I found initially it was quite fraganced, but after a while, the perfume didnt bother me.
What did I think of the product? It's a lovely moisturizer, not too thick or heavy for my skin. Light enough to wear under makeup but still feels like you have a plumped skin feel. It is put out as the companion product of Restylane (as in the dermal filler Restylane). Although of course it doesnt take wrinkles away, it leaves a nice feel on the skin, and is a great day cream for all skin types.

What did I think? I liked this product. It has little to no odor, it's definitely not greasy on the skin which is a big plus. It doesn't give the white shine either.

Jurlique Blogger night

I was recently invited to the Jurlique Sydney beauty launch for their new anti-aging range.
First impressions: a lovely clean store, gleaming wood surfaces, and friendly looking staff.
We were greeted with Chandon champagne, and Fiji water (two of my faves) and delicious canapes were passed around by waiters.
I already knew one of the ladies who is a manager at Jurlique, so it was nice to see a friendly face.
I sat with the national training manager who spoke at length with me about Jurlique, it's history, and its products. I also met with the global marketing manager and the lovely ladies from TORSTAR.
I was invited to sit down with my consultant Song, who asked me about my skin, and gave me a demonstration of various Jurlique products.
I tried a wide variety of their products, including their world famous rose cream, but my fave is the jasmine body range (spring in a tube)
We started off with the Jurlique exfoliator which you can use either wet or dry, it has a nice creamy texture and leaves the skin feeling soft and looking bright, and not dry or red (which happens to me a lot with exfoliators as I have sensitive skin)
