NORTHERN ARIZONA BASKETBALL EXPOSURE SHOWCASE

The West Coast Hoops Report, Area Codes Basketball, and the Northern Arizona Basketball Academy present the Northern Arizona Basketball Exposure Showcase, which will be held on Saturday March 3 at the Mingus Union HS gym in Cottonwood, Arizona.

In connection with college coaches at all levels, scouting services and local, regional, and national media this event will feature some of the top high school boy’s and girl’s basketball players in Northern Arizona.

The event coordinators are looking for the top boys and girls high school players for this event. Players in grades 9-12that feel they should be in this event should contact Mark Owens at (402) 770-2248 or EVCoach@gmail.com.

* For the Top Boys and Top Girls Grades 9-12 in Northern Arizona

* All prospects will be in a written report on www.westcoasthoopsreport.com following the event and include a player profile on the site.

* All prospects will be included in West Coast Hoops Report and Area Codes Basketball Recruiting Services in a spring report given to a database of over 500 college coaches.

* Registration Fee: $40.00 and each prospect will participate in two showcase games.

* Game jersey will be provided for each participant.

Glendale, AZ - The Fullcourt Press Arizona Spring Showcase took the first and only event on the West Coast to start off the 2012 season on Sunday February 26 at Deer Valley High School. Directed by Etop Udo-Ema, Dinos Trigonis & Chad Groth, a total of 237 high school players from Nevada, California and Arizona participated in the event. This is the 4th and final report from the event.

Thomas Hooper, Desert Pines 2012 (Las Vegas, NV) - The 6 foot 5 shooting guard is high-flying and plays above the rim. Hooper can land a scholarship this spring at a DII or JUCO.

Patrick Branch 2012 (Cheyenne - Las Vegas, NV)

Patrick Branch, Cheyenne 2012 (Las Vegas, NV) - Branch is very wiry and long with a knack for blocking shots. The 6 foot 6 wing has bounce and will get looks from college coaches in the next few months, a solid low DI prospect that could land at a JUCO.

Jonathan Scott, Independence 2012 (Glendale, AZ) - Scott is listed at 6 foot 5 and plays big in the post, posting up and getting to the basket from the basline he can finish, strong player that can defend.

Nathan Henderson 2013 (Perry-Gilbert, AZ)

TK Edogi, Valley Vista 2012 (Surprise, AZ) - The 6 foot 7 wing has bounce and rebounds like Dennis Rodman, can finish in traffic and has a decent mid-range game.

Edward Johnson, Hamilton 2012 (Chandler, AZ) - The 6 foot guard plays combo and can score in transition. Defended well in both games and is a good passer.

Freddie Lash, Gilbert 2012 (Gilbert, AZ) - Lash is a electric scorer and plays both guard positions. The 6 foot 3 guard is athletic and can make plays. Lash scores in a hurry and will put the cross over dribble if needed, had a few steals in one game, low DI player.


Jordan Shouse 2013 (Rancho Solano Prep - Glendale, AZ)

Jonah Legg, North 2013 (Phoenix, AZ) - Legg is an offensive machine, has moves with the ball and is a fairly good driver. The 6 foot 4 off guard is athletic and can finish.

Jeremy Verhagen, Florence 2012 (Florence, AZ) - The 6 foot 9 forward is highly skilled with athletic ability and likes to finish around the basket, makes shot blocking a habit and can face-up on offense. Low DI prospect at this time but that could change.

Jordan Shouse, Rancho Solano 2013 (Glendale, AZ) - The 6 foot 3 scoring guard performed well and can defend as well picking up a few steals and finishing around the basket, still developing but has a good feel for the game, will be a steal.


Chris Swanson 2013 (Valley - Las Vegas, NV)

Chris Miller, Greenway 2013 (Phoenix, AZ) - Miller is a very fundamental athlete at 6 foot 3 and is always in control on offense. Passes well on the break and can finish around the rim.

Johnnie Panfil, Boulder Creek 2013 (Anthem, AZ) - The 6 foot guard plays both positions and knows how to play. Played well in both games and is a solid performer. Panfil is a strict fundamental player that makes few mistakes.

Nathan Henderson, Perry 2013 (Gilbert, AZ) - This PG has a good feel for the game and is a winner, handles it well and rebounds well for a guard.


Cole Kelper 2015 (Basha - Chandler, AZ)

Chris Swanson, Valley 2013 (Las Vegas, NV) - Plays under control and unselfishly, passes well in the open court and has good speed. The 5 foot 11 guard is one to watch.

Bryan Laws, Cheyenne 2013 (Las Vegas, NV) - The 6 foot 6 post has good footwork, plays physical and rebounds well for his size. Laws is very active on the glass and thats his upside.

Cole Kelper, Basha 2015 (Chandler, AZ) - This young quick combo guard gets to the basket and has a nice pull-up jumper. The 6 foot 1 playmaker has a nice shooting touch with long range and scores in bunches.

Nate Grimes, Cheyenne (Las Vegas, NV) 2015 - Grimes took notice off the jump by blocking shots and rebounding the ball on defense and finishing on the break. The 6 foot 6 wiry and long wing was not taking any plays off and with his skills showed why he is one of my favorites to watch in the next few years, upside to be a great player.

Jaron Hopkins, Basha (Chandler, AZ) 2013 - The 6 foot 4 combo did alot with the ball in his hands and can attack with his cross-over dribble, scores at will and can finish. High interest from schools like Stanford, Colorado, California, Harvard and Boise State.

Michael Thornton, Coronado (Las Vegas, NV) 2013 - This kid plays at a very quick pace and moves well with the ball, good playmaker and can excel in the open court. The 6 foot 1 guard is one to watch in 2013.

Kodi Justice of Dobson (Mesa, AZ) 2014

Daniel Young, Valley (Las Vegas, NV) 2013 - Listed at 6 foot 9 really plays above the rim, runs the floor very well and blocks shots in transition. Has a motor and rebounds well, active player and has a nice face up game at 10 feet, will look to have a big spring and summer and projected as a division I mid major but could go higher.

Kodi Justice, Dobson (Mesa, AZ) 2014 - Justice played very well in both games and knows how to play, makes other players better and is a strong court leader. The 6 foot 4 point guard also can play off guard and really has good shooting range, the high major prospect gave Herb Sendek and Arizona State University a verbal last fall.

Daniel Young of Valley (Las Vegas, NV) 2013

Isaac Allen, Mesa (Mesa, AZ) 2014 - Allen is long in length at 6 foot 9 is raw and has great upside, still developing and will be a steal in the next few years. A high major talent and very smart player that blocks shots on defense and likes to catch alley-oops on the break. Interest from Oregon State, Arizona State, UNLV and Michigan State.

Khari Holloway, Mountain Pointe (Phoenix, AZ) 2013 - A natural point guard that has good size at 6 foot 2 and plays up tempo. He can score if needed but likes to make the bounce pass for the assist. One of the better players to watch on the floor with talent.

Drew Bender of Pinnacle (Phoenix, AZ) 2013

Maurice Kirby, Basha (Chandler, AZ) 2013 - The 6 foot 9 forward runs the floor well and likes to defend, showed improvement since the high school season is over already. Plays more freely and has several schools on his radar since telling Herb Sendek and Arizona State he will not play slow down basketball and decommitted last spring. Now is looking at Washington State, Princeton, Harvard, Stanford, Drake and Oregon State. Kirby also may consider Northern Arizona if David Grace becomes head coach.

Isaiah Lopez, Agua Fria (Avonale, AZ) 2013 - The 6 foot 1 point guard has a smart basketball IQ and made several nice plays and defended very well. Watch for a big spring and summer for Lopez to hit college coaches radar.

Chris Davis of Desert Mountain (Scottsdale, AZ) 2014

Tyler Roberts, Foothill (Henderson, NV) 2013 - Roberts listed at 6 foot 4 did a nice job at showing he is athletic and played very loose by defending the ball well and knocking down the open shot. Roberts was one of the stand-out players of the day and can play at the next level.

Drew Bender, Pinnacle (Phoenix, AZ) 2013 - Bender is one of the favorites to watch, at 6 foot 4 is explosive and can score from anywhere. Good ball handling skills and is a quick passing guard that defends well on man. Early list includes Oregon State, Harvard, Colorado and UC Irvine. Bender also mentioned if OSU assistant David Grace gets the Northern Arizona job that could be a choice.

Jaylen Jenkins, Mesa (Mesa, AZ) 2015 - The 6 foot 3 guard has a long range jumper and has a broad size, defends decent and has good handles, plays big and will finish in transition. Jenkins has good upside and will be one to watch.

Chris Davis, Desert Mountain (Scottsdale, AZ) 2014 - Davis displayed an athletic game and reminds me of Shawn Marion, good size at 6 foot 4 and can finish on the break and has a gift in dunking on you if you don't defend him. If he develops a jump shot he could be very hard to stop. I enjoyed watching Davis on both ends of the floor.

Chris Thompson of Arcadia (Phoenix, AZ) 2012

Brandon Williams, Paradise Valley (Paradise Valley, AZ) 2014 - The 6 foot 1 point guard makes good decisions on the floor and can lead, knocks down the open jumper and can pass.

Chris Thompson, Arcadia (Phoenix, AZ) 2012 - Thompson played well in both games and is very long in length. At 6 foot 7 can play small forward and is athletic and scores inside with a face up game. Shot-blocking is common as Thompson is a good defender.

Roland Jones of Tucson, AZ - 2012

Roland Jones, Home School (Tucson, AZ) 2012 - Jones plays shooting guard and at 6 foot 4 attacks the glass and showed a 15 footer and ability to get to the basket. Jones will be on the radar this spring and summer.

Will Marshall, Estrella Charter (Avondale, AZ) 2012 - The 6 foot 9 forward runs the floor well and can rebound the ball, good around the basket and has a motor, this prospect is leaning toward junior college and likely will sign with the College of Southern Idaho.

Trey Hoebee, Sunrise Mountain (Glendale, AZ) 2015 - This kid showed improvement each game and knows how to play, good basketball IQ and can shoot with deep range. One to watch in the next few years.

Tuff Barnes, Westwind Prep (Phoenix, AZ) 2012 - Barnes is 6 foot 6 and knows how to play, can be one good get at any program and is fundamentally sound, good around the basket and plays hard on every possession.

Steve Scott-Lopez, Valley Vista (Surprise, AZ) 2014 - Lopez showed good leadership and shooting ability from outside, one to watch.

Edgar Sarmiento, Sierra Linda (Phoenix, AZ) 2013 - Well rounded guard that is a playmaker and can score.

Tre Dean, Independence (Glendale, AZ) 2012 - PG that moves the ball and lightning quick passer.

Colin Gause, Sabino (Tucson, AZ) 2014 - Displayed passing ability and upside.

Brandon Kimber, Valley Vista (Surprise, AZ) 2013 - Quick PG that at 5 foot 6 can get by his defenders, good college prospect that can play.

Sami Bzai, Mesquite (Gilbert, AZ) 2012- The 6 foot 4 shooting guard is all that, good range and can handle. Bzai will sign in the spring and should pick up an offer with hard work and good skills.

Ryan Bayster, Chaparral (Scottsdale, AZ) 2015 - Bayster was an eye catcher and really knocked down several scouts pens to the note pads. The 6 foot 4 prospect played well and got to the basket with good size and knows how to use his body. Fights hard for position on rebounds and finishes.

Elijah Grubbs, Arcadia (Phoenix, AZ) 2014 - This was the first showcase he participated in and faired well against older players, would like to see more of him and the multi sport athlete has upside.

Riley Adams, Buena (Sierra Vista) 2015 - Adams at 6 foot 3 showed a knack for shooting and good size with foot speed.

Shannon Burton, Moon Valley (Phoenix, AZ) 2015 - Impressed us with his upside and skills.

Quinn Price, Vista Grande (Casa Grande, AZ) 2014 - The 6 foot 5 Price displayed a defensive game and attacked the ball on defense, one to watch.

Richard Holt, Basha (Chandler, AZ) 2013 - The 5 foot 10 guard plays strong, bigger than he is listed and has good defensive skills.

Garrett Stillwell, Chandler (Chandler, AZ) 2015 - The 6 foot 5 frosh is very interesting to watch because he has good skills and will be one to watch, hard worker and wants to get better.

Elijah Winston, Gilbert Classical (Gilbert, AZ) 2013 - The 6 foot 3 guard has nice skills around the basket and knows how to get in position to rebound, plays hard and excels on the break. Good basketball IQ and passes well for his size.

In connection with college coaches at all levels, scouting services and local, regional, and national media this event will feature some of the top high school boy’s and girl’s basketball players in Northern Arizona.

Congrats to Belmont Shore star Grant Jerrett (La Verne Lutheran/La Verne CA) for being the only senior from a California high school that was selected to the McDonald's All-American Game this year! The McDonald's Game will be held on Wednesday March 28 at the United Center (Chicago IL) and televised live on ESPN.

Grant has led La Verne Lutheran to two straight California State HS championships and was also recently invited to the Jordan Brand Classic in Charlotte NC in April.

Playing for Belmont Shore the past three spring/summers, Grant was all-tourney at prestigious Las Vegas Fab 48, Bob Gibbons Tourney of Champions, Real Deal in the Rock, Pangos Sweet 16 and Fullcourt Press Las Vegas Easter Classic. Los Angeles, CA – Tomorrow in So Cal some of the top high school teams and players will play in Southern California at Fairfax High School. The fourth annual Fairfax State Preview will take place starting at 10:30am so arrive early.

The 5^rd Annual Arizona Middle School Basketball Exposure Showcase was held January 22, 2012 at Phoenix College just minutes from downtown Phoenix.

Area Codes Basketball presented this event which featured 196 middle school basketball players from Arizona and a few from California. “It’s great to catch all the top young talent play at a high level before high school, this is a very special group”, said Paul Dean, publisher from www.westcoasthoopsreport.com

Arizona Jr High Basketball Tournament Recap

Phoenix, AZ – The Arizona Jr High Basketball tournament took place over MLK weekend January 13-16, 2012 in Phoenix, AZ at Madison Park Middle School. Over twenty teams participated in the tournament.

This annual event directed by Cindy Stein is a first class event and was very media friendly. I was able to catch games on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning as I was not able to see all the teams play.

Below is a recap of the Fab Five Surprise Performers.

Tony Licavoli – Granite Mountain 2016, The 6 foot 2 prospect has upside and has a high ceiling. During the two games Licavoli showed he can run the floor and has a nice basketball IQ.

Isaiah Goodspeed – Joy Christian 2016, Goodspeed is still raw but has a few skills that with working on his game has a chance to be good.

Ben Stefaniak – Dobson Academy 2016, Stefaniak is a good floor leader and has a chance.

Nathan Gorsuch – Scottsdale Christian 2017, The feisty and quick point guard knows how to run a team and made a few good plays.

Jacob Baird, - Scottsdale Christian 2017, At 5 foot 10 moved well without the ball and can get in position freely to rebound offensively. Look for Baird on the rankings in Arizona shortly as he can also slash to the basket and has a nice face up jump shot.

Sean Clancey is an explosive athlete that can score

Las Vegas, NV - Sean Clancey is a rising 2014 combo guard from St. Louis, MO that moved to Las Vegas, NV to live with his mother a year ago. While playing with the St. Louis Eagles in the summer I watched him play while I was in St.Louis, MO scouting some other high school prospects. Clancey caught my attention with a few solid plays and one exciting dunk. After the game I found out he moved to Las Vegas and his dad lives in St.Louis.

As I kept in touch with him he participated in the SUPER 80 in Las Vegas, NV back in the fall of 2011 and was one of the Top performers of the showcase. Since than his recruiting went from no schools of interest to Oregon State and soon more to follow interest in the 6 foot 3 guard. Sometimes high school stats and playing time don't show what young student-athletes can really do. Most make a name in the off season in showcases or aau tournaments.

Let's catch up with Sean Clancey from Spring Valley High School in Las Vegas, NV.

SC: Watch game film and study what I did wrong to work on in practice.

Las Vegas, NV - Gio Guzman stands strong on the floor before the jump ball for Bishop Gorman as he starts at point guard. Maybe because he looks at sees the number one player in the country Shabazz Muhammad, Rosco Allen (Stanford signee), Ben Carter (Oregon signee), Demetris Morant (UNLV signee) and himself: the 5 foot 11 pure point guard who is a pass first, tough defender in your face, and will knock down the open jumper.

Guzman wants to win and is a winner and will give the ball up to the open man. After four good high school seasons he will be looking to play college basketball. His sights are set first on leading Bishop Gorman to the Nevada State High School Championship and graduating with honors.

In the fall Guzman was selected as Co-MVP of the Super 80 in Phoenix, AZ along with DeWayne Russell who just gave a verbal to Kevin O'Neill and USC. A few weeks ago he took a visit to Florida International and head coach Isaiah Thomas. Nothing set in stone but Guzman will be a late division I signee if that's where he wishes to play, holding division II and junior college offers.

GIO: I shoot everyday and I train in weights and conditioning 6 days a week.

GIO: I know what I do exceptionally well, but I think you should always believe you need to improve in every part of your game in order to be great.

GIO: Momentum has really been picking up. Recently it's been FIU, Texas Pan-Am, Valpo and some others. Bottom line is, I want and will make a positive impact on a basketball team.

*Each player will be ranked by several scouts & recruiting services in attendance

Scouts look on for future college prospects starting at 6th grade

*Etop Udo-Ema of Hot100hoops and Fullctpress.net will be evaluating players for the National Middle School ratings and rankings.

*Jeff Meadows of Hoopsreport.com will be on site to evaluate players and rank middle school players for the national website.

*Selected players will be selected for the Middle School All American Camp in May 2012.

Middle School All-American Camp will be held in May 2012 in Phoenix, AZ
