I was speaking with my friend Denise the other day about fashion, and trends came up. She mentioned she wanted to see what was trendy for 2012 without having to spend time flipping through a magazine. So I thought I would put together a collage of what’s trendy for the new year with pieces that I just so happen to love.

My Favorite TREND? Anything MINT, PRINTED DENIM, AND ALWAYS BOYFRIEND JEANS.

I had guests in my home last month, and the topic of conversation became my love for chevron. He pointed out chevron all over my house, piece by piece. He spotted items almost like Waldo on a poster board. Well…being the chevron lover that I am. I found some jeans that make my heart my SWOON.

my hair cut. the story

If you follow this blog, then you know my hair pain. My stylist left in June/July to relocate, and I have been on the hunt for someone that could cut and style my hair. I have tried 3 stylist since she left, and didn’t find anyone that fit her shoes. Don’t get me wrong. The other 3 were very talented, but when you find that one stylist that KNOWS your hair, you become attached. Not only is Monica (my stylist) talented, but she is the sweetest person ever.

Well. I received a text last week from guess who? MONICA!!!!!! She is moving back, and is starting to see clients again starting every two weeks (with Saturday being the first). My first words to her were:

“PUT ME DOWN FOR SATURDAY PLEASE”

I told her I didn’t have much hair to work with because I was trying out other stylists, so I hoped she would be able to do something with it. I sat in the chair with no plan, she didn’t have one either. I became very frustrated and upset with myself because I felt I would leave there without taking advantage of the appointment.

In my heart, I longed for the MIA FARROW, EMMA WATSON, and MICHELLE WILLIAMS cut. I have wanted it for years, but was just to scared. After coming from the dryer, I pulled their pictures up on my phone, and we agreed to go for it. Since my hair was already short, CUT IT OFF --- I SAID! She CUT, AND CUT, AND CUT…A LOT OF HAIR. The awesome thing? There was no need to flat iron my hair, except my duck tail. The cut is one that I can dry (hooded dryer), and finger comb. So there you have it. My new SHORTER CUT that I love.

I was the only black kid in all of the 3rd grade classes in my Catholic School in 198(?). One day there was a talent show announcement, and a special teacher (Mrs. Guerra) who asked me about my favorite singer. It was Whitney Houston. When “THE GREATEST LOVE OF ALL” hit the radio, I was in aww. I made my Granny buy me the album, and I stared at it for minutes and minutes at a time in our living room. I wondered who she was, where was she, what was she thinking, and thought how beautiful she was, all from an album cover. Soothing was her voice to me, and she became my first idol. In my school, I was her, and won that talent show singing the above noted song. I can still see it. The stage, the dress, the shoes, the crowd…and hearing the music play.

Rest in peace finally Miss Whitney. We are jamming your music in our house right now, and thinking of all the great memories you have left us with.

…one final video that I must add. This song makes me cry every single time I hear it. They just played it and I cried. I wrote the lyrics down when I was dating my husband, and gave them to him. She sang about the man being all that she needed with such passion, and the words represented exactly how I felt about my man.

This is what music does for us. We all have a song.

My prayers are with her Daughter, Mother, and all of those that loved her.

Just because I cant help myself. We are huge fans of “THE CARTERS” and are so happy to see this couple evolve into a bigger family with their new baby. What makes this even better, they passed up dollars and decided to introduce their child to the world their way. Which was via Jay’s blog. GET IT CARTERS!

I know what your saying. Another watch Tam? Well..this is the LAST ONE. This watch was featured in the Nordstrom catalog, and when I say it made my 7 1/2’s go pitter patter. They indeed did. This is the:

TIMEX EASY READER BLACK CASE LEATHER STRAP WATCH

I placed myself on the waiting list for this watch, and questioned if the order would be filled. Well thank goodness it was because it looks great. There are no bells or whistles with this watch. Simple style, at an affordable price. It also has the indiglo feature so it lights up blue at night should you need to see. The “boyfriend” look is very popular right now, but I would not put this watch in the “trendy” category. Looking at it, you can see its more traditional than trendy for sure.

Finding a sofa that works best in our home has been one of the hardest tasks. Some people think its so easy to just get a sofa, when really its not. You have to consider….

USE --- For guests, sitting, maybe T.V.
KIDS (IF YOU HAVE THEM)--- For friends (snacking across the way at the table).
COLOR --- Either a gray or ink blue color.
LENGTH --- I am thinking 75-85 inches.
QUALITY --- DURABLE. I want this sofa to last us for at least 7 years.

In the past, we used our sofa in the den to watch movies, chill, and even sleep from time to time. Seriously, my kids never slept in their rooms when we first moved in. They were sofa sleepers, but they had beds. Now that they are OLDER there will be no sleeping on the sofa. The first thing my son asked is “Will I be able to sleep on it”…. UMMM-NO!

So, below is where I am in my head.

So there is my mental sofa pin board. Mr. Styles is leaving this one up to me, and I am tired of saying I am unsure although I really am. For fun…these would make my heart pump.

Can any of you speak to the quality of the sofa picks?

I am thankful to everyone that encourages me, and enjoys what I put out. Although blogging is easy, it still comes with everyday reality. ~~There is a GNAT (or GNATS) that fly through every once in a while, but bug spray is easily found~~ in the form of my wonderful readers. You guys left some wonderful comments on the survey, and have given me a great insight to who’s reading G.I.G.S.

kardashian Kollection jumpsuit

This jumpsuit was very comfortable. I will say that it runs a bit big. This is a medium, but I think a small would have been perfect due to the stretch that it has. Very versatile in my opinion though. I went more “conservative” (for me) with my shoe choice. But a stiletto would have turned this jumpsuit into something extremely fun.

Introducing one of my new favorite shoes. It’s the BASS REID. A cross between preppy and lady I think. The heel is perfect for moving about your business, while adding some edge to a basic jean look. If you recall I tried these on a while back, and I have since finally found them on sale (endless.com). This GET IT GIRL wants the best bang for her buck.

Also, let me touch on these socks. How I love THEE, let me count the ways---one, two. I spotted these in the men's section at THE GAP for $2, and the rest is HERstory. I told you ladies that shopping for yourself in the men's section is a major TO-DO if not for just small things like socks, hats, belts, and comfy sleepwear.

Have you tried the preppy look? Thoughts on it?

YES. I love CHEVRON and I love STRIPES. Something about them are just wonderful to me. I look at chevron as the hip fun sister of the stripe. It gives your space, or your body that oomph that your looking for when pulling things together. Now that I think about it, there is an aspect of the referenced throughout our home. We had a guest the other day that literally pointed out every piece of chevron that he spotted in our house. I should have included images, but will next time for sure. Below I put together my favorites for both the house and the body. Enjoy.

I have purchased jackets and coats from BB Dakota in the past and loved them all for their style. This outfit was no exception to that rule. Well made, and comfortable. These are pieces that you will see mixed and matched with other items in my closet for sure. I then topped it off with my wonderfully versatile Rebecca Minkoff Baby-G Watch, which I cant get enough of. Great outfit for cool winters day. Only person missing was my guy.

NEON LOVE

Neon will never go out of style in my opinion. Even if you don’t want something bold. The piping of NEON fabric on the trim of pillows, or on a skirt as seen below can be a toned down alternative that looks great.

If there is one thing I love its pretty lashes. I have always wondered if paying more for lash product really made a difference? For the first time I made a comparison to see. I love Lancôme lash product and have purchased it for years. But today I was at Walgreens and the beauty expert was pumping my head full of positives on the L'Oreal False Lashes, so I bought it. Now I paid over $20 for the Lancôme Doll Lashes and the L'Oreal False Lashes was only$8 at the “BIG” store. When I look at them they look similar. What I will say is the Lancôme brush is more sophisticated and gives the lashes that fullness that you see. I don’t know, I like them both. (THIS IS NOT A SPONSORED POST)

prayers for LAUREN SCRUGGS

Fellow Dallas Blogger/Model Lauren Scruggs was injured in a terrible accident in which she lost her left hand and eye, involving a plane. I was literally still after hearing the news, and could do nothing but pray. I then went to my email box and realized she and I had not communicated further on having that coffee that she suggested a few months ago. So people don’t wait on things. Even something as small as coffee, and small talk. You just never know what tomorrow can bring. But what I do know is this…SHE HAS HER LIFE. I can never know her pain, but I pray for her every time she crosses my mind. We are all living testimonies at the end of the day.

She recently followed up on her blog to thank everyone for their prayers, and support.

Her Mother journals the process and its deep. This family is one that believes in the ONE AND ONLY GOD, and its apparent when reading her Mothers words. Just when you think you have it bad, there is always someone else with another struggle that will SHUT YOU UP from having a pity party. I encourage you all to keep her and her family in your prayers.

makeup bag musts

I am going to be honest. My makeup bag is not one that is full of products, but only the things I really need and use. I have a hard time finding lip product that actually keep my lips soft. I have tried almost every product and came up empty until I tried VASELINE LIP THERAPY. They reached out and sent me a sample to try, along with the PRECISION TIP Q-TIPS. I am a Q-TIP user on a daily basis and thought they were great. They have both joined my makeup bag with all my other must haves. My lips have never been softer. The only issue I have is Mr. Styles loves it as well because of its effectiveness in the cold, so we battle over it.

My other favorites:

FRESH SUGAR: Smells WONDERFUL. I cant seem to describe it. Just try it please.

MAC LIPGLASS: Squirt (LOOKS GREEN but goes on natural) and a natural pink which varies.

HAND SANITIZER: I am a germ nut. Enough said.

I have posted some of my favorite sunnies a few times on the blog, and well here we go again. I recently took the leap at my first pair of Ray Bans. What took me so long? Hell, who are you asking, but I am so happy with them. I am that customer that comes in every month to try on the same damn shades, only to confuse myself. I originally wanted the BLACK NEW WAYFARER, but I tried on the HONEY NEW WAYFARER and was smitten. The brown in the front looks great with my skin tone, and are a bit different. The BLACK option will always be there right? Right.

And let me disclose this in case anyone is wondering what the scar is on my chin. It happened when I was 2. I feel off my hobby horse, and my chin hit my Grandmothers marble table. They didn’t take me to get stiches, which is why I have the scar.

But I LOVE IT. It adds character to me, and never stopped anything (HIGH FIVE).
