Quick Sushi Fix @ Sushiro, Suria KLCC

Do you like sushi? Are you a fan of sushi🍣? I have a confession to make.... I love sushi🍣🍣!!!. Previously whenever I craved for sushi🍣, I will walk to Isetan and grab a serving of sushi🍣. Just to 'fulfill my cravings'. I was superbly happy when Sushiro 'landed in' Suria KLCC. Now, all I have to do is to walk a few steps further and head on to🍣 Sushiro 🍣whenever "sushi is calling for me". 🍣🍣

Sushiro has become one of my latest favourite place for a quick fix. What else could I ask for? Decent sushi at affordable price?. At least that's what I thought... my person opinion or preference. Of course nothing compares to the pricey 'omakase'. For us, working class, this is decently acceptable. For the price I am paying, I like my sushi 'clean'. I have problem looking or savouring on sushi drowned in sauces. hahaha... I like mine with some wasabi & shoyu.

Chopped Walnut Pesto Pasta @ DIB Restaurant, PJ Trade Centre

Visited a friend in PJ Trade Centre this afternoon for lunch. I try to catch up with friends once in a while and whenever time permits. This area used to be a place a frequent a lot. But today, I lost my way getting to her office. It was unbelievable. So much have changed or I have not updated myself with all these developments. So many highways, so many new shops, business centres etc. I was supposed to reach by 12 and ended up reaching about 12.20pm. Needed to make a few 'U-turns' that incurred tolls. It was an eventful exploration though.

Texted her when I reached her office block. I still like the serenity of the place with trees. Enjoyed a quite moment before meeting up her.

We picked to dine at DIB Restaurant at Menara Gamuda. It's my second visit and I still like the idea of the company direction. A good initiative that offers a place for the less fortunate 'people with hearing disability' to serve the customers with an array of food. Ranging from local nasi goreng to western choices like pasta, chicken chops etc.

We ordered a serving of Peri Peri Chicken and a plate of Walnut Pesto Pasta to share. The food were decently delicious and portion were generous too. Personally, I enjoyed the nuttiness of crushed walnuts in the pesto mixture. The pasta was boiled perfectly.. Al-dente.. I detest soggy or overcooked pasta. The whole chicken leg was marinated well. Can taste the spicy flavour, nothing overwhelming.

Apart from the food, I absolutely enjoyed our time catching with news or happening to our lives. We appreciate our friendship and will always cherish it. It's a great session. Will try to catch up more often and also meeting up with other friends. We look forward to our annual meet up at another friend's place. A comfy place with delicious food and lovely friends. I couldn't ask for more.. 🙏🙏🙏

Nutty Black Sesame Tong Shui @ Tang Fei Dessert (糖妃糖水), Bandar Puchong Jaya

Are you a dessert person? Do you like sweet soup (tong shui, 糖水)? In the olden days, tong shui is usually associated with something that you served warm. But times changed and since the early 1990s, tong shui shops also serve fruit based desserts. Now, it is served in nice and cosy cafes. Of course the price that you pay will be slightly higher than the ones you get from the stalls in the kopitiam or pasar malam.

Despite the evolution, we still enjoy and appreciate a good bowl of 'tong shui' that suits our palate. I have to admit that I rather picky when it comes to 'black sesame' and 'peanut' tong shui. I am totally glad that Tang Fei Dessert serves a decently good bowl of black sesame tong shui. When it was served, the first thing I did was to check out the texture, followed by the flavour.

It's the kind of black sesame that I love. I tot, it would be good to check out the peanut tong shui next round.

Nephew enjoyed his bowl of Mango Sago, while my brother chose ToFuFa with Taro Ball and SIL had Ginger Rice Balls / Taro Balls. It's always nice to chill in the airconditioned cafe for a warm bowl of tong shui. Perhaps you can check it out and decide if you think it suits your palate.

"Safe" Bak-Kut-Teh for Brunch @ Siong Huat Bah Kut Teh, Port Klang

It has been a while since I last posted on Blogspot. I still continue to post photos on Instagram (without much description or elaboration). Think I need to continue to blog more often moving forward.

It's Deepavali break. Youngest brother and SIL are off. So I thought perhaps we can go further for breakfast. Invited the rest of the family, but they are not interested. Youngest brother is usually more accommodative. He is willing to drive an extra mile. I am not a fan of BKT when it comes to dining out. My system cannot withstand the 'Dang Kwai' (当归 or Angelica). Don't get me wrong, I love BKT (when my mum cooked them).

So we made our way to Klang for BKT. My bro & SIL's favourite is 'Siong Huat Bak Kut Teh. We ordered pot of BKT for 2 persons, 1 portion of dried version and 2 plates of yu char kuey. As usual, my nephew is the happiest, when it comes to dunking / soaking yu char kuey in the BKT soup.

I don't mind revisiting this place. The Angelica flavour is close to 'invisible'. That's perfect for my system. Haha.. but of course for those who adores Angelica flavour, they may miss it. Sorry.. "one man's meat is another man's poison" or should I say.. it's solely my personal preference. I feel 'Safe" indulging into this BKT. hahaha..

How do you keep in touch with friends? I think one of the easiest way would be going out for a meal or have a coffee. As we mature, we try to make time and effort to keep in touch with people that we know, people that we hung out with in the past, friends or buddies that you consider as siblings or family.

Of late, I am been terrible in catching up with friends. Perhaps it's due to work or family. Therefore, I will initiate some coffee time with friends or going out in smaller groups or even just 1 to 1.

Today, I met up with one of my buddies from uni days. We got closer when the few of us returned from the Student Exchange Programme and had to spend an additional year to complete our finals in UM. We were from the 1st batch and graduated with the 2nd batch. No regrets. We had the opportunity to study abroad and experienced what others may not had. Others may think that it's a waste of time, but I took it as golden opportunity.

As usual he will drive to my place and I will take over the driving from there. We went to Pavilion Bukit Jalil which is across the highway from where I stay. Decided to have bagels for brunch at Christine's. I love bagels. I like the chewiness of the dough.

We ordered President Bagel and Surf Bagel to share. The homemade cured salmon and saltiness of the Salmon blended in perfecly with cucumber cream cheese, the roasted tomatoes, caper, red onion and garden green. Whilst The President offers roasted chicken, mozzarella cheese, French garlic sauce, caramelised onion and roasted tomato.

The bagels were so satisfying paired with a good cup of latte. That's enjoying life (in my context). Good meal and great friend.. What else could I ask for? Perhaps I would wish for everyone to be blessed with good health and happiness always. This enables us to meet up more often and have more meals. 😘

Springy Ramen with Rich Broth @ Ippudo (一風堂), Sunway Pyramid

Are you a fan of Ramen? I admit, I love ramen. It has been a while since my last visit to Ippudo (一風堂), my favourite ramen shop. Used to frequent the outlet @ The Gardens Mall or Pavilion KL. I was overjoyed when it opened in Sunway Pyramid. Hopefully it will come to Pavilion Bukit Jalil soon.

There are many ramen shops around. There are also stalls in our local kopitiams that sell ramen. I know everyone has their favourite outlet. I am not restricting myself from checking out other options. But sometimes you just want to revisit the places that you are familiar with. Just to reminisce of past or even to 'ensure' yourself that you can still rely on these vendor(s) to serve you a bowl of ramen to comfort yourself, when you are down. At times, I just want to ensure that the flavour remains the same. I don't need to go and hunt for others. 😄

It like the texture of the ramen (Q-Q) and also the umami & dense-flavour of the pork broth. Now that my nephew has grown up, it's time to introduce him to the goodness of ramen. But he prefers 'Kids meal'. I am ok as long as he enjoyed his food.

Ordered Supreme Ramen Set for Mum and myself. Nothing more satisfying than a bowl of ramen with rich broth. The supreme set comes with 'karaage', edamame, Earl Grey Panna cotta & salad. Whilst the Kids meal consisted of a bowl of Hakata Chasiu Rice and 3 pcs of Dashimaki and a cup of Orange Juice.

What is your pick? There's no right or wrong.. it's just a matter of suiting your tastebuds. Enjoy your day...

Modest Lunch @ PUTIEN, Pavilion Bukit Jalil

When you are out dining with the most senior and most junior of the family, you will try to compromise their wish when it comes to food. The young one prefers fast food, western or Japanese while the senior usually prefers local or Chinese food. She is ok with Japanese and sometimes western. Yes, I was referring to my mum and my nephew. They have their preference. hehe.. does it sound familiar?

This round, we opted for PUTIEN that serves Chinese food, especially Fujian dishes. Since there were only 3 of us, we opted for set meal for 2 pax. The set includes Starter (Seaweed & Mini Shrimps Dressed with Sauce), Steamed Eel with Garlic Black Beans, Crispy Oyster, Fujian Seafood Lor Mee & Dessert. Since there were 3 of us, we also ordered a serving of Sweet & Sour Pork with Lychee.

Mum enjoyed the meal, especially the lor mee.. and surprisingly my nephew also loved it. He certainly enjoyed the sweet & sour pork. The pork was tender, suitable for old folks and kids. I think the eel was a bit too salty. I was drinking a lot of water to rinse off the saltiness. I was indulging myself in the crispy oyster. The crispiness of the deep fried oyster with Putien chili sauce.. it's match-make in heaven.. 😁

Char Kuey Teow (炒粿条) or fondly known as CKT (in short). Most Malaysians growing up having CKT a few times a year. I used to like CKT and ordered them for meals if my parents took us out for breakfast or dinner. I think it is too simple, taste and hassle free to resist. I was not a fan of soupy noodles. I cannot eat food that is served too hot. I will take ages to finish them, while the rest of the family will be waiting for me to finish my meal. I am not sure when I started to opt for something dry or fried. 😐

So speaking of that, CKT is one of the food on my list-to-order. I just needed to spread out the noodles.. to air it a bit and start eating from the sides to the centre. Yupe, that's the strategy.

Today we fried some kuey teow at home. We have some Chinese chives, beansprouts, prawns, Chinese sausages (lap cheong,腊肠), minced garlic, dark caramelised soy sauce and normal soy sauce. There's something missing.. yes, you got it right.. its cockles. It's too hassle to find fresh cockles from the market and the need to unshelled the cockles. In addition, cockles is getting more and more expensive. Hence we skipped the cockles this time 😂

You need to heat up your wok, quick fried the minced garlic with some fresh ingredients, then add on the kuey teow, drizzle the sauces (dark and normal soy sauce) and lastly add the beansprouts & Chinese chives, give it a stir and it is ready to serve. If you like it hot (spicy), you can add on some hot sauce or in Malaysian you can buy 'chili bo'. You can add the chili bo when frying the ingredients.

Sounds simple? Let me know if it turns out right? Cooking made easy when we have access to YouTube etc. You can learn everything / anything from YouTube.😐. The question here is whether you prefer DIY (Doing-It-Yourself) or head to the nearest cafe, kopitiam or even restaurant for a plate of CKT of your choice. Nevertheless, enjoy your plate of Char Kuey Teow....😋

Fried Siamese Vermicelli (Fried Mee Hoon Siam) @ Home

Anyone here loves fried 'Mee Hoon Siam' (Fried Siamese Vermicelli)? Why do we call it mee hoon Siam? Have you ever thought of it? Is it originated from Siam? Former name for Thailand. Well, i think it is more of the ingredients that we used rather than the origin. Malaysia and Thailand have a long history of cross culture etc. Long way to go.. about 6 centuries ago...

But when it comes to food, I think Malaysians will agree with me, we are spoilt by choices. We can have Malay-Chinese cuisine, Malay-Indian cuisine, Chinese-Indian cuisine, Malaysian-Thai, Malaysian-Japanese, Malaysian-Middle Eastern, Malaysian-Korean etc. We enjoy the varieties and incorporate the original ingredients and give it a twist to make into something that suits our tastebuds.

Some said that Mee Hoon Siam is actually a Malay dish. Well, I think it could be the cuisine from the Northern part of Peninsular Malaysia, where we have Thai influence or even Malay influence in the dishes.

A simple serving of Fried Mee Hoon Siam can consists of prawns, eggs, 'tau-kua' (firm tofu) and fried shallots as condiments. To make it simple, I would use tomyum paste as the base. Thereafter, I would add on some calamansi juice to make it sourish. You can add on some spice with a few bird's eyes chili. I like it hot, sweet and sour.

Baking? It has been months since I last baked. Not that I don't enjoy baking, just that I am trying to limit 'snacking' at home, otherwise 'working from home' would also contribute to the 'statistics'... side-ways I mean.. hahaha...Furthermore if I do it too often, the people at home will get tired of them. Hence, doing it once in a while is perfect!.... don't you think so?

So one will be thinking, why did I bake today? Well... I have a comb of over-ripen bananas🍌 on the table, and my nephew was pretty excited when I told him that I will bake banana cake. He quickly told me that he wanted 'cupcakes'. Coincidentally, I have a few cupcakes cups (I bought months ago), and he happened to see it the other day.

He, of course assisted me, in many ways... beat eggs, creaming butter and sugar, etc. He just enjoyed doing all these. I let him participate each time I bake.... he is going to be 4 next year, he started helping me when he was 2 plus. Very cute!.

As promised, I baked him 4 cupcakes and he was delighted!. I don't have the 'muffin tin', therefore I used a loaf tin to hold the paper cups, and that's perfectly fine! After all, I am not going to sell these items, they do not need to pretty. hahaha.. as long as my little helper is happy... I am happy!.

Waiting anxiously for the 'butter'!. He loves butter!... I call him... 'Butter Monster'😂

Home-cooked Bibimbap @ Home

I am not really a huge fan of Korean cuisine, but do not mind having it once in a while. My niece is back to her 'instagramable' ideas. Every now and then, she will come up with her 'great ideas' and we will try to 'challenge' it!. hehehe... Well each time she comes up with her 'ideas', we have to go out to hunt for the ingredients and also the items to go with it. We had been searching high and low for the bowl and wooden spoon. hahaha.. Initially niece asked me to look for the 'Korean clay bowl'😮, I objected that! 😜... Then we settled for the 'stainless steel bowl instead as I could not find the wooden bowl' or should I say, it was too late to purchase those items online!. frankly speaking, it can be really fun doing that as well, I am not going to deny it. 😁

This morning, I asked niece to go to the supermarket with me to buy the ingredients and we almost got everything except for the 'soy bean sprout'. I called up my SIL to ask her to search for it in Gombak.... can you imagine how desperate that could be? funny right? Anyways, her 'Ah-Kim' managed to find and bought back a packet for her.

So, started cooking after Mum is done with her home-made 'kaya'. Preparing the veggies are not that difficult, as its pretty simple. Then we assembled the ingredients in a bigger platter and also the personal bowl to 'show-off' the colourfulness of 'Bibimbap'. Ok,... I had spinach, kyuri, bell pepper, mushrooms, carrots, soy bean sprout, fried egg and meat slice (you can also use minced meat, if that's what you prefer). In general, bibimbap is just a bowl of 'mixed rice with solely vegetables or with meat. Then add on a spoon of 'gochujang' paste, mixed it well and just enjoy the food.

Lately Mum is also following the trend of posting food in her FB. Of course, she was delighted with the outcome and also she enjoyed her bowl of 'bibimbap'🍲. Well, nothing is more satisfying than your family enjoying the food that you have prepared for them. 😍

Home-made 'Roti Kok' @ Home

I wonder if the younger generation knows what 'Roti Kok' is? A simple way to 'prolong the validity' of stale bread. You spread some butter or margerine and sprinkle some sugar on top of the bread. Toast it in the oven until golden brown. There you would have to crusty slices of bread🍞 as snacks!. A great way to practice 'zero-waste' on food. If you prefer plain ones without sugar, well you can have it as well. Otherwise, you can make croutons out of stale bread for your salad. I am sure you have your own ways.

Mum was happy with the sugar-coated Roti Kok, in fact she was the first person to try out the bread upon ready. She loves crusty bread. I would spread some home-made kaya on the non-sugar coated ones later. Meanwhile.... have a pleasant week ahead everyone. Stay safe & take care.

Some may say that I did not coat enough sugar. Well, I prefer it this way.... not too sweet!.

Pressure Cooker Bak Kut Teh @ Home

Finally managed to convince Mum to get a Pressure Cooker (PC). At first, she was truly reluctant, as she heard from my younger sister that the outcome of the food was not presentable. I told her that I tried using it to boil soup at KY's place and it turned out just fine. The flavour was there, and most importantly, we need not look after the fire and it was cooked in 30mins. Of course, she wasn't really convinced then, until.. ah huh.. she saw 'her FB friends' posting their dishes cooked using the PC. From then on, she asked me to look out for a PC. We ended up getting the PC from Go-Shop on Astro. Mum purchased the 6L Primada Pressure Cooker. Thanks to the promotion, the set comes with 2 addition stainless steel pots instead of 1. That was a bargain for RM399/-.

Mum decided to try out her new toy today by cooking a pot of 'Bak Kut Teh'!. Yes, she put everything in the pot, and pressed the button 'Soup' and in 30mins, it was cooked!. Only thing was we need to release the pressure before opening the pot!. Otherwise it would not be called 'pressure cooker' for nothing right? hahaha...

Once opened Mum was truly impressed with the outcome!. She was grinning and knowing that she was happy with her new toy, I was truly glad!. The aroma of the BKT perfumed that entire kitchen. The meat was perfectly cooked, succulent and literally 'detached' from the bones. I believed everyone at home enjoyed their serving of BKT. Am sure Mum will use her PC more often now! 😍

Mum's 'YAM-milicious' Vermicelli Soup (芋頭米粉湯) @ Home

What can you cook with Yam or taro (Wu-tao in Cantonese or 'Or-tao' in Hokkien, 'Keladi' in Malay? Any yam-based dishes that you like? Am sure some of you have your own recipes and dishes that you like. More common ones are 'yam cake', 'bubur chacha', 'yam rice' and it has been a long time since I last had this 'yam mee hoon soup' (芋頭米粉湯).

Mum proposed to cook this soupy item for 'dinner' today and I am more than happy when I heard that. She said there's a small piece of yam left and it's just nice for 2 bowls of noodle soup. She went to the kitchen and started preparing the items required. I am working from home and also need to entertain my little nephew once in a while. Since we do not normally have lunch, we will have our dinner early. Yes E-A-R-L-Y... as early at 4pm. To me, it is ok as it will have 'sufficient time to 'digest'.

Mum whipped up 2 bowls of 'yam mee hoon soup' in no time. We love to have our 'version' with some 'sambal belacan'. You may notice that the soup was pretty 'murky'. In my opinion that's the essence or should I describe it as 'goodness' of the soup. Besides yam, there are some dried shrimps (hae-be), fried shallots, spring onions and not forgetting 'sambal belacan' that contributed to this awesome 'YAM-milicious' 😋👍bowl of 'yam mee hoon soup'🍜.. aka 芋頭米粉湯 (yu tao mai fun in Cantonese).

Lobster Feasting @ Burger & Lobster, SkyAvenue, Genting Highlands

As mentioned, KY has listed down the places to dine in Genting, and Burger & Lobster is certainly one of them. In order to avoid the crowd, we actually went to SkyAvenue early this morning. When we arrived this outlet is still closed and we saw the staff having their meals before work. So, we or rather me, started to Q. I was the 1st in line for the day... sounded desperate?😋 kiasu?😆 when the clock struck 11:00 the staff started to open the doors and we were led to our table.

When we looked back, there Q was pretty long and they quickly filled up the tables in the restaurant and there are still people waiting for their outside. We were pretty quick in ordering as we have already decided on what to have while waiting. We decided to order 1 item from each 'cluster'. Yes, we shared the Burger - The Original, Wild Live Lobster - The Original and Lobster Roll - The Original and we also ordered a serving of Truffle Fries. We got to try our each of the different items, since I don't take beef, I skipped the burger, but it was ok. The order that we ordered we just nice.

After the hearty meal, we went out of the building to take the nostalgic photo of the Genting Highland logo. If you ask me about the food, well it was worth trying, I would say. It's ok to check it out at least once. Then you can judge if you love it or otherwise. Given the price, I may have opted for something else, but having a chance to have it with friends would be something precious. Like what I always tell myself, "It's what we have, it's who we had it with that matters". I cherish the moments that we get to spend together. True friends are hard to come by. 😍

Fascinating Meal @ Beauty in the Pot (美滋锅), SkyAvenue, Genting Highlands, Pahang

It's about lunch time and KY has 'Beauty in the Pot' (美滋锅) in her list of restaurants to visit. When we arrived, we need not wait for long, or should I say, we were still early and furthermore, due to the pandemic, not many visitors to Genting. We only waited for the staff to prepare the table and led us to the room, as there were 4 of us. Most of the tables in the open area are meant for 2-3 diners. Anyway, we were happy to be seated in secluded area, sharing the room with another group of diners... (there were 2 tables in the room).

Once seated, we just screened through the menu, as ordering of food usually falls in the responsibility of our 'tai-kar-cheh'... haha. We just sit & eat. But of course, helped to 'choose / decide' and of course KHS will be there to 'monitor' that KY doesn't 'over-order'. We ordered 4 types of broth, namely:

Wild Mushroom, (长生抗癌松茸野菌锅)
Tomato Corn, (维他命C番茄玉米锅)
Beauty Collagen (胶原蛋白养颜美容锅)
Cooling Coconut (清凉解热雪耳椰子锅)

KY also ordered several items to go with the broth, such as slice various meat (fish, pork, lamb and beef), a platter of mixed meatballs, enoki mushroom, tofu skin (yuba), ringrolls and few types of leafy green. I personally have to compliment KY for her choices, as the photos turned out pretty colourful when all items were served. Am sure you can see the hand in one of the photos, yes, that's KHS' hand! I am ok with it, as it's more lively.

Overall the service was 'top-class', I would say. After meal, we were served a shot of 'yuzu' sorbet which was perfect to cleanse the palate. As for the food, it was lavishly presented!. Well, nowadays people pay for the service, ambience, presentation besides the taste or flavour of food!. To me, it's 'acceptable' once in a while. Well, I am still a conservative person, that ranks flavour ahead of others!. If it is tasty (suits my tastebuds), then it certainly value for money. Otherwise... it's waste of money! hahaha...

Generally, I would give it 3 out of 5 for food and 4.5 out of 5 for service and ambience. Like the saying goes... 'once in a blue moon'. At least I have tried and judged for myself. I always remind myself, it's not what we eat, it's more of who we eat with. All these are based on my personal preference or opinion.

Chocolate Indulgence @ GODIVA, Genting Premium Outlet, Genting Highlands, Pahang

It has been a while since the four of us travelled together. We still catch up occasionally at KY's place (usually), but seldom travel with her. the 3 of use (KHS, CML & I) have done a few 'Cuti-Cuti Malaysia' though. Since it's KHS' bday month, we have him the honour to decide where to go. KY offered Genting as she has a unit @ MidHills and that had accommodation sorted out. KY also planned for the trip.. prepared the list of places to dine and shopped for snacks and prepared some necessities... such as 'brick-game set'. It is not that CML & I did not contribute.... I volunteered to drive KY's car for the trip and CML has to 'document' the expenses.

We started our journey early after breakfast, thinking that we will be able to 'check-into' KY's unit. It was hilarious as when we arrived, CML saw shoes on the balcony and KHS saw some kids in the unit. KY called her agent and was informed that it was rented out the previous day and they will check out by 12pm. As such, we can only 'check-in' after 3pm as the agent needs to clean the place for us!. hehehe...

In order to kill time, we headed to 'Genting Premium Outlet' which is famed for their outlets (branded items at discounted prices). We are not shoppers, hence we are not really interested, but it's good to 'check things out'. After a while, we headed over to GODIVA for some 'indulgence'. A luxuriously decorated. This premium or gourmet chocolate shop certainly lived up to people's expectation. Not really unaffordable, but not inexpensive as well.

Since there's an on-going promotion, we decided to purchase 2 sets of RM63 for 3 items. We ended up with 3 cones of chocolate ice-creams,1 hot chocolate and 2 pcs of chocolate pearls. Absolutely worth it. It's so chocolatey!.

It's almost 8pm and we thought of grabbing something light before calling it for the day. Without knowing what to have or where to go, we saw something interesting on the 1st floor of the 'shoplot' after coming out of 'Bangsar Village'. We walked towards that direction and headed upstairs.

When we arrived at the entrance of the restaurant, a staff came to us to enquire if we made any reservations, which we did not. It was an impromptu thing and the staff politely asked if we can be seated on the long table. Well, to us, it's totally fine, as long as we are not 'turned down'.

The Nordic-influenced interior gives diners a very pleasant feeling. I am not sure about others, but I certainly feel very relaxed. I ordered a serving of 'Slipper Lobster Ravioli', 'Squid Ink Risotto' and "Heirloom Tomatoes, Ricotta Cheese & Balsamic Salad" to share. I have always love ravioli (given a choice). The squid ink risotto is pretty interesting as the creaminess of the gravy complements well with the 'chewy' risotto. The acidity of balsamic vinegar brought out the 'sweetness of the heirloom tomatoes'.

Overall, I am pretty happy with my choice of selection as we enjoyed the food and it's totally scrumptious. I think we would return for other items one day. Maybe I would go for lunch with my mum next round.

Wonderful Outing with Childhood Buddies @ Las Carretas Mexican Restaurant & Bar, Jalan Semantan, Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur

We are now in the 'Recovery Movement Control Order' phase whereby we are allowed to dine out with a small group of people, as long as we adhere to the SOPs set by the authorities. Due to the 'restricted movement' implemented we refrained ourselves from going out too often and only do it when necessary. My friends and I have not met for a long time, and Jennie initiated this luncheon, which the few of us could make it. We are truly grateful for her arrangements and initiative. We met at Las Carretas Mexican Restaurant @ Damansara Heights.

SP picked me up and drove us to the restaurant. We made sure that we arrived 'on time' as the restaurant closes at 2:30pm after lunchtime. It could be due to the 'pandemic', we literally occupied the entire restaurant, as there were only 2 'groups' (including us). There were 10 of us, while the other table had 3 diners.

Ordered Nachos, a few servings of spaghetti and fajitas to share. Jennie also arranged for a Lychee cake to celebrate the July-Aug babies which happened to be SP & BT. (another reason to gather, eat & chat). Generally the food, if I may, it's acceptable, however the portion is considerably smaller (if I may compare to "Chili's")

Given a choice, I may not have the urge to return as it did not have the 'ummphh' factor whereby, I will want to return after the 1st visit. Well, never try never know if it suited my tastebuds, but like what I have mentioned in my previous posts, all these are solely my personal opinion or preference... 'One man's meat is another man's poison'.

This Lychee cake is simply out of the world.... Deliciously satisfying! Thank you, Jennie.

It's a special day as it only occurs once in every 4 years. I think we need to do something... rather than sitting at home or watching tv for the day. Furthermore Nicholas has followed his parents back to Gombak, I asked Mum if she wants to 'jalan-jalan' to Klang. I have "Shin Lok's pau" in mind, actually.

I have been to Shin Lok Kopitiam in Klang 3 years ago with AN and YT. That time we just had brunch and can not stomach in the pau, but have purchased some home. I like 'vege' pau and it is not easily available in other kopitiam(s). Shin Lok's main outlet is in Jeram (which I have heard of but have never been), will make a trip there one day.

Since we had breakfast earlier, we only ordered a 'coconut pau' to kill time, while the staff prepared our order. You can see from the photos below on how many paus we have purchased. To be distributed to other family members and friends. 😂... that's how we spent our special day.... What about you?...

Curry Mee with Cockles and Poached Chicken @ Restoran Double D, Bandar Puteri, Puchong, Selangor

One of my colleagues recommended this place, Restoran Double D @ Bandar Puteri. One of her favourite place for curry noodles as it has 'cockles'. There are people who try to limit their cockles consumption (due to medical or hygiene reasons) or there are people who do not like it at all. But as a person that grew up in a small town, it's something that we grew up eating. 😋When I heard the magic word, 'cockles', I told myself that I have to check it out. Hence, here we are in this place checking out the curry noodles and also other items.

I have to confess that the curry noodles🍜 was pretty good, the taste of santan (coconut milk) and the spices that the vendor used in the curry paste have produced such flavoursome gravy. The portion was generous, the slices of poached chicken were huge and best of all, there were cockles!!. It's simply wonderful!!

Mum, SIL & I had the curry noodles while my brother opted for Pork Noodles. Can see that the portion was also pretty generous. Mum also ordered a platter of 'Chinese Churro' (aka yau char kwai), Fried Savoury Dough (aka ham chim peang) etc to share. These fried items were so good and not oily. My little nephew enjoyed it. Surprising the vendor of these fried dough is a Vietnamese. Besides that she also sells porridge with century eggs or salted eggs....very impressive indeed. We certainly have a good breakfast and will revisit. Thanks, JP for the recommendation.

Have you heard of a Ming Ren Xuan (名人軒), Chinese restaurant located on Level 3 of Avenue K? I see the signboard at the KLCC LRT Station all the time, but have never checked it out until today. Our department have organised a luncheon for CNY and also to celebrate LHF's birthday (that's what we knew initially). AY has made the proposal and our supervisors approved it. They even went to try out the menu and told us that the items that they ordered were delicious.

Just now, we headed over to the restaurant to savour the items. We ordered some usual dim-sum items and also a serving of 'Fried Noodles'. The items were fresh delicately done and meaty. The prawns in the 'Har-Kow' were huge and crunchy. I think one of criteria for 'crunchy prawns' is obviously freshness of the prawns. One of the items that caught my attention was the carrot-shaped dimsum. It's so pretty and interesting with minced meat filling. The fried radish cake was a tad too salty for my liking. Overall I love the items there and will definitely revisit in near future. Will bring my mum and nephew next time. Thank you again for the wonderful lunch and birthday surprise (at least to me)..

Did I mention that we left Nutmeg after 2.5 hours? Yes, JennieO and Angela K left as they have something on. As for the rest of us, we headed off to another place.. a quieter place to chat / chill. After all it's a Sunday, some ladies of the house need to return to spend some quality time with their families while some need to do groceries, and there are also ladies who opt to hang out and chill with friends.

We proceeded to Delicious for 'Round 2', as it's a brighter place and quieter. Though LBH used to be the outlet manager for this place, we should not take things for granted. We cannot just sit and have coffee without ordering any food. We cannot stomach in any main meals but can still allocate space for 'small bites'. The 2-tier High-Tea Set is the perfect item to order as it comes with 3 tea/coffee. We only needed to order 2 extra drinks. I think non of my friends here can resist the 'macadamia cheesecake' and we had to succumb to that. I was glad that we ordered that as it was absolutely delish!. The saltiness and crunchiness of the macadamia was a perfect match for the cheesecake. The selections in the high tea set were colourful and pretty good.

Besides recapping what we have 'discussed' in our earlier meeting, we also chatted about lives, catching up with each others progress etc. Without realising, it was already 6pm and it's really time to go home. We have been out for more than 6 hours😲. We truly treasure the friendship that we have managed to sustain after all these years. Though we do not meet often, childhood buddies are really 'the treasure' that all of us cherish. Take care and see you again soon.

Satisfying Brunch with Childhood Buddies @ Nutmeg, Bangsar Village II, Kuala Lumpur

After the late night out with UM buddies, today, I am meeting up with some TI childhood buddies to discuss about the upcoming event that we are planning. In fact it is a meet up for the 'organiser' and yours truly is one of the committee member. We are planning to organise a get-together for our batch.. the batch of 1990 of Convent TI. This year is our 30th Anniversary... I know you have started counting our age.. well, nothing to hide... yes.. we have left our alma mater for 30 years. It's time to rekindle with some / all if possible. Knowing that it will not be possible, as some may be away in other continents while some are busy with their families / commitments and sadly but honestly, some have 'migrated' to another world which we hope that their souls will rest in peace. We are trying... i mean trying our best to gather those who are still around and wanting to get-together. No hidden agenda... just a way to reminisce our good times together.

LBH suggested that we meet at Nutmeg and made reservation. I am seldom late, though I left home like 45mins earlier, I was still late, the traffic was bad when I entered Jalan Telawi. Nevertheless, I was about 5mins late when I joined the ladies. A few had arrived and ordered a few items to share. As LBH is a familiar with the place, she placed the order and mind me.. it's really delicious. We had made the right choice to assign her as the 'food committee' for the event. She is in-charge to identify/ shortlist a few restaurants / eateries. After all she has been in the 'F&B' industry for a long time and she knows more than us.

It's always great to have people to share the food (or calories😎) and also with more people, we can savour different items. That's one of the privilege to go out in a group😜. I personally think that the 'Smoked Duck Aglio Olio' was one of my favourite just now. The smokiness and saltiness of the duck meat complemented with the simplicity of aglio olio. Since I like mushrooms, the Mushroom Frittata was also something that I would have again in my future visit. Since we have ordered so much food, I forbade the ladies to order dessert before finishing the items on the table😁. I always try to practice 'finish what we have ordered'.. I don't like to waste food. Since my friends 'reluctantly complied', they were allow to order dessert. I think they too dare not order too much and just opted for a slice. 😂 We should never stop learning in life!. 😁 Overall it was a truly satisfying brunch with some childhood buddies.

After a good 2.5 hours, we basically have a rough idea on how to organise that reunion event, we left Nutmeg. We also feel bad for 'hogging' onto that place for too long. It's lunchtime on a weekend and that place is packed with patrons and there were others waiting to be seated. So, it's best that we made ways for others. Furthermore, some had to rush back to run some errands etc.

Seafood-licious Dinner @ Restoran Green View Sdn Bhd (长菁海鲜饭店), Petaling Jaya

After the delicious pastries @ One Half, we headed back to KY's place to chat and also do what we usually do .... 'lepak' (in English mean loiter). Whenever we are out, it's a whole day event. We don't usually meet and go... we would hang out, have coffee, dinner and play our usual 'brick-game' until midnight before heading home.

KB (KY's husband) came over and we went out for dinner together with KY's family. KB suggested Celestial Dynasty but unfortunately the place is booked for wedding function. Then we headed over to Restoran Green View Sdn Bhd (长菁海鲜饭店) instead. This restaurant is famous for its 'fresh Water Prawns Noodles' (aka Sang Har Mee) back in the 1990s. I have heard of it but have never tried it in this restaurant as I have read about it and it's pricey. I was still a student back then. No extra for lavish lifestyle. 😉

Restaurants in PJ are always packed on weekends. Furthermore we tried to look for a table on the ground floor for KY's father's convenience. When we arrived, the air-conditioned section was packed with customers and the staff suggested that we proceed to the section without air-con, which was fine to us, as long as we did not need to climb stairs.

KY & KB ordered quite a number of dishes; Kapitan Style Mixed Seafood, Flying Fish Thai-Style, Fried Kailan, Yam Basket, Braised Pork and Crab Fried Mee Hoon. The crab in the fried mee hoon were huge!. I have tried the same items back in Kuala Selangor but the crab there were slightly smaller. But the ones in this restaurant were meaty, fresh, tasty and HUGE! Though it can be pricey, but it's totally value for money. I am not a fan of petai, hence I did not try the 'Kapitan Style Mixed Seafood'. The deep-fried fish was crunchy to the last bite. I like dunking the fried bun into the braised pork gravy. I have to say that the dishes were absolutely delicious.

It's also yummy to dunk the fried buns into the braised pork gravy.... 😋👍
