My 100th Hub Published at HubPages - A Videogame Primer!

The blog title says it all: I have officially published my 100th hub over at HubPages.com. In a nutshell, it talks a bit about the roleplaying and strategy genres of videogames for the benefit of those people who don't play games on a regular basis. It then goes on to give examples of easy games within each genre I wholeheartedly recommend to new players.

In other news, I recently acquired a copy of Final Fantasy 3 for the Nintendo DS. It encompasses everything I used to love and hate about classic RPGs, from the random encounters, to the awesome story, to the lack of save points, to the insane bosses, to the addictive gameplay...I could go on for hours. Basically, if you have $20 to spare, you can't go wrong getting a copy of the game, at least in my opinion. :D

You can expect a review of FF3 in the coming weeks, assuming I don't get a job beforehand (which will probably happen, as if I ever need an excuse to take arbitrary hiatus anyways. :P).

What Two Decades of Videogames Have Taught Me! Read it at Hubpages.com now!

Well, hello there! Have I been missed?

I took a two week hiatus to get some personal life stuff straightened out and to start working on a videogame. The videogame is going to be a sci-fi action RPG. Given that I'm using a game engine, don't expect it to be cutting edge, as I have beginner's programming skills. With that said though, I'm chipping at it a bit at a time, so at least you'll be able to feel the love. :P

In other news, I have published my 99th hub over at Hubpages.com. It's all about things I have learned by playing videogames for two decades. If you want to read it and get a few laughs (I hope), check it out by clicking any part of this sentence.

Also, I've been playing Dragon Quest IX on and off, and have acquired Mortamor's Map. Unless your party is over level 75, I don't recommend even looking at him. He hurts something fierce! Wi-Fi has been very kind to me as well by allowing me to acquire a bunch of weapons I otherwise wouldn't be able to get.

That's without mentioning the EIGHT birthday cakes and party poppers I got for my special day in Dragon Quest IX as well. :)
Darned developers thought of everything, didn't they? :D

Chrono Cross Article Published at Hubpages.com!

I have just finished writing up my 98th hub over at Hubpages.com. This one is all about Chrono Cross, which is a classic RPG released in the year 1999 for the PlayStation console. Go read it now and see what you might have missed in the last decade!

In other news, I'm not doing so hot in Starcraft II. I just got so rusty so fast. The game is certainly a lot more unforgiving than the original version. But, such is the way of the fast paced RTS environment. :P

Thief's Acquisitiveness Hub Fixed!

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation released today!

The title of this post says it all! Well, assuming you're looking at Amazon that is. I think retail stores release the game tomorrow, but what's one day anyways? This is especially considering that, if you get it from Amazon, you have to wait for it to ship, so you won't receive it today anyways; but that way you don't get sales taxed. This momentous event marks the first time this game has been released in the Western world, and also marks the first time that all Dragon Quest games have been available for purchase in both hemispheres.

Speaking of other things Dragon Quest, I have also been looking into a way to get a cheap copy of Dragon Quest V, because the current price is beyond ridiculous ($60+ for a USED copy...). If you've been wondering about this as well, here's a shortened link to Square Enix's Online Store!

New Dragon Quest IX Legacy Boss Hunter Article Up At HubPages!

Hello there guys and girls! :D

As the title of this blog post says, I have published a new Legacy Boss Hunter article for Dragon Quest IX over at Hubpages.com. This one is all about Malroth, who was the final boss of Dragon Quest II (back in the day, he was called Sidoh) and is now an unlockable Legacy Boss in Dragon Quest IX. He boasts a far higher attack stat than Baramos and, coupled with his painful breath attacks, can be a deadly threat.

However, if you follow my advice, you'll be able to pound him into the ground readily. :D

In other news, I got a Pallium Regale from the DQVC a few days ago. Considering the horribly low drop rate that armor has (and also considering the fact that I don't even have a grotto with any monsters that drop it), I should consider myself lucky.

In other, other news (:P), I'm still a Gold rank in Starcraft II. The fact that I didn't play at all yesterday might have had something to do with that, hah! Or, maybe I'm just reaching my current skill ceiling (no! :[ ).

I have reached Gold Rank in Starcraft II !

For those of you who have followed me at HubPages recently, you may or may have noticed one of my newest hubs related to the Starcraft II ladder. You can check it out by clicking on any part of this sentence: It's called Starcraft 2: Tips, Strategies, and Tricks from a Silver-Level Player.

Since then, I have actually been promoted to Gold, which was, to be fair, a long time coming. See, the matchmaking system had been pairing me up against Gold and Platinum level players for a while, so I knew that a promotion was imminent. I was just not sure when it would happen. It finally happened in a game versus a Zerg player who attempted to Mutalisk rush me...on one base. Considering how gas heavy Mutalisks are, that was a pretty bad idea. There are several one base Zerg aggression strategies that do work, but quick Muta doesn't, unless you have insane micromanagement abilities.

In other news, I've also been playing Dragon Quest IX and have been getting some pretty cool rare items from the DQVC. This week is "fashion week" (I'm paraphrasing, but the official name of the week is pretty vague anyways. :P).

Dragon Quest IX Wifi Get!

The title says it all! :)
But, first I must apologize for this long hiatus. Most of the break was forced due to the loss of my old internet connection, but the rest of it was me being too lazy to update. :P

Of course, that's the bad news. The good news is that my new connection allows me to connect to Wi-Fi, so now I can access the DQVC in DQ IX! Isn't that awesome?

Speaking of which, this week is the High Seas Sale, or Pirate Week as I so plainly call it, so sail over to the DQVC if you have access to Wi-Fi so you can check out what's up for barter, argh! ;)

Connecting to the Wi-Fi also allows me to download the extra quests that have been released for the game since its launch, and now I can use Sellma and Patty in my party, if I so choose to.

In other cool news, I've used one of my two Starcraft 2 trial passes to get my dad some playing time. We played two games today and he enjoyed it, so I'll see if I can't get him a copy of the game. But, that has to be after I get some more money in my pocket!

Starcraft 2: Tips, Strategies, and Tricks from a Silver-Level Player

It's finally time for another videogame article! :D

I recently started playing Starcraft II again, but this time I'm playing in the ladder. This is probably the first RTS game I've ever played where I actually play against other players. I don't tend to be a player vs player type of guy. However, I have to say that the matchmaking system for Battle.net 2 is actually pretty good.

I enjoy being able to just connect, click a button and find an opponent within thirty seconds.

Anyways, the article I wrote up details several tips I have for newbies that are struggling to claw their way up the ladder, much like myself. ;)

In other news, I should have a new internet connection in a few days. It will allow me to connect via Wi-Fi, so I'll finally be able to access the DQVC in Dragon Quest IX for exclusive goodies. I'm already stoked. :D

Forgotten Realms - Icewind Dale Review And Starcraft II Stuffs!

In other news, I've been watching the first GSL tournament of 2011 (that's the Global Starcraft II League for those of you who are wondering what the acronym stands for). I'm particularly impressed with Boxer's superb performance and somewhat saddened by Fruitdealer's two losses in a row. I sure hope he can rebound, because he's awesome, and he plays Zerg, and I loves my Zerg something fierce. :P

I myself haven't played Starcraft II in a LONG while. For those of you who don't know the story (of why I stopped in the first place) yet, well here it goes: Basically I was prepping up for a good old 3v3 conflict against computers (cooperative match) when one of my teammates decided to team kill me because I wouldn't give him unit control. It was enough to make me stop playing. I'm sure people will argue that I should grow a thicker skin. Well, my skin's more than thick enough. It's a case of principle really: Until Blizzard adds some way for players to kick out teamkillers/ignore/otherwise not have to play with them, I'd rather not even hop into the Cooperative queue. I don't feel like having fifteen minutes of my life wasted because someone has self-entitlement issues. If they never add it, I guess I won't play SC II again until my friend gets a copy (already beat the campaign on Brutal except for All In, but that's a whole different monster since I'm trying to fight off ground and air. :/ ). And, if he never gets a copy, guess I'm not playing again. I can always play the original Starcraft on LAN with my dad, but guess what feature they cut out of the sequel?

I highly doubt Blizzard is crying over my departure, so it's win-win at both ends.

Happy Holidays/One Year At Hubpages/Icewind Dale Done!

First of all, I'd like to say happy holidays to everyone, as I conveniently (:P) forgot to do so during the holidays. I hope you all had a great time with the people you love and cherish, no matter what you were doing.

My holidays could've been better, but then again, they could've been worse, so perhaps I shouldn't complain. :P

I also took an hour or so to write up my 93rd article over at Hubpages.com today. As of a day ago or so, I now have the accolade for being a member of Hubpages for a whole year. Thus, I wrote up an article celebrating the occasion. You can read it by clicking on any part of this sentence.

However, this is a videogaming blog, so I couldn't very well finish this new post without making at least one reference to the subject. :P

I have recently finished the entirety of Icewind Dale, including the expansion pack content. In hindsight, the game's a lot shorter than Baldur's Gate, but that may be because the emphasis is on combat, so once you hit the ground running, it's much easier to grind through a dungeon of baddies than it is to find the five pieces of a flail to create the ultimate flail of destruction (kudos to whoever figured out that reference!).

I still owe you guys a hub to finish up my Fallout Let's Play, but life and the dire need to make money have been halting my efforts. I hope to get something concrete done between now and 2012. :P

Legacy Boss Hunter - Baramos over at Hubpages!

Hello there, how have you been?

I wrote up this blog post to bring attention to one of my top articles over at HubPages. The article in question is for Dragon Quest IX (go figure, eh? :P), and deals with beating the Legacy Boss Baramos. Given that he'll probably be your first Legacy Boss (unless you use Tag Mode to acquire other Legacy Boss maps from other players), I consider that this article is a must-read if you want to get into the Legacy Boss killing mindset.

Also, here are some general tips that apply to most high-level boss runs:

You NEED a healer. Don't argue this point. Just don't. Gamers tend to argue this with me until they get destroyed over the course of 2-3 turns by mass attacks. :P
You'll probably need a tank as well. Unless you're doing the 3 Gladiators and 1 Priest party setup, which involves killing the boss before your party bites the dust, then you'll have to take things a bit slower. Paladins make the best tanks, but Warriors are adequate.
Each character should have an Yggdrasil Leaf. There's nothing worse than losing your healer to a lucky boss critical and then having no one that can revive.

A Videogame related comic I discovered!

Well, hello there! I apologize for not updating this blog or my hubpages account in a few days, but I've been busy trying to make money online. :/

With that said, I need my leisure time as well, so I've been reading a webcomic called Ctrl+Alt+Del. It chronicles the daily occurences of two videogamers called Ethan and Lucas. The author does a pretty good job of making the comic strips humorous to all readers, so if you're not a videogamer, you'll probably still get quite a few laughs out of it. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who's had a bad day, or just wants to distract him or herself for a while. :)

In other news, I haven't really played Dragon Quest IX for a while, so my next Legacy Boss Hunter article could take quite a long time to get written up. You can blame Icewind Dale for that.

Speaking of which...I picked up a copy of Icewind Dale Complete over at Good Old Games. So, you MAY see me write up a review for that game some time soon. Whether I write it here or over at HubPages, don't worry because you'll hear about it here in either case. ;)

What I CAN tell you in advance is that it's pretty fun. For those of you in the audience who have played Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale features more of an emphasis on dungeon crawling than quest-doing. However, it is my humble opinion that, if you enjoyed Baldur's Gate, you'll enjoy Icewind Dale as well. :)

A Rant about Videogamers by a Videogamer (aka. Myself, Winterfate, and I.)

So, hello there!

Today, I'm going to write up something different. This is going to be a rant about videogamers and how they seem to have low attention spans nowadays. So, feel free to turn away because I'm about to put in my old man dentures and find a walking cane.

See, back when I was a kid (not TOO long ago, I'm actually only 22 as of the time of this writing), the average videogame took a LOT more attention to detail. Oh, did you accidentally kill that one gargoyle? Yes, that ONE gargoyle that actually wasn't hostile? Well, guess you can't finish the game. Or, maybe you drank that bottle of wine you were supposed to give to your friend so that, satisfied with the beverage, he could give you a stick that you could throw to distract a monstrous dog-like alien. Umm, New Game is looking pretty nice right about now.

Situations just like those, or similar to those, were all over the videogame library about 15-20 years ago. If it wasn't you essentially shutting yourself out of completing the game because of a poor decision, it was the game's difficulty cranked to 11 that essentially forced you to restart the entire game repeatedly. Battletoads and Contra come to mind right about now (I have played neither of these games and, from what I've seen, my sanity thanks me for it).

I wrote up an article at Hubpages talking about how games have changed in the past decade or so that's pretty appropriate to the subject, so feel free to check it out by clicking on any part of this sentence.

Now, the reason I bring this up is because I've been repeatedly assailed in some of my Dragon Quest IX articles for help. Mind you, I love helping people and, my conclusion usually states that any feedback and/or comments should be directed to that section. So, if you ask for help, you'll get it. The problem is when people post their party setups AFTER reading my "how-to beat a boss in DQ IX articles" and AFTER reading the recommendations and then wonder why they can't beat the boss with their party. I look at their party and it has critical, glaring, flaws that I address during the article. I mean, if you posted in my comments section for a given article, I have to assume you did read it, right?

(If you ask for party help in one of my DQ IX articles that doesn't involve killing bosses or setting up your party, then you're forgiven out of principle. After all, I can't know for a physical certainty whether you've read the relevant articles or not.)

Most of the time, they lack a strong healer. The need of a healer in Dragon Quest IX is something I repeat ad nauseum. DQ IX plays like a classic roleplaying game, and in those games your most important character is your healer.

You may scoff at that statement, but think about it: What good is it if you can kill someone with one spell if you're dead before you can cast it? Your healer makes sure your mage can let loose with that One Spell of Death.

(Oh, and inb4butwhatifmyhealergetskilled, since I know some of you probably went there.)

Nevertheless I help them out, in spite of the fact that, had they read the article they were posting a comment to, they would already have their answer. But, it gets grating. It's like you telling someone how NOT to fall into a hole, and they do it anyways. Then, you remind them, and they fall in AGAIN!

But, what would I know right? This is the generation of Too Long; Didn't Read anyways. If YOUR party setup isn't working despite not having a healer and/or capable tank then it's obviously MY fault isn't it? Heavens forbid the article you're posting your question to actually answers it! -_-

Now, this isn't a declaration that I'm the ultimate Dragon Quest guru. In fact, I could name a few usernames of people who have posted in my comments section for said articles that have helped ME out with builds and such things. Like a true rant, this has gone all over the place, so here's the main idea I'm trying to put across: If you're going to ask for help in the comments section of an article, at least have the decency to read it first and mention the fact. If what has been said in the article doesn't help you out, THEN you can call the writer out on it. Until then, you're just being lazy and inconsiderate.

It makes me feel better if you ask, "Hey, I read your article and it says I need a healer. But, I don't want to use one. Here's my party setup." than if you ask: "So yeah, here's my party. Help me please."

Anyways, that's about it for now. I really had to get that off my chest and so decided to kill two birds with one stone by writing it here. :)

Dragon Quest IX - Legacy Boss Hunter: Dhoulmagus up at HubPages!

As usual, my over-descriptive post title explains itself. :P

Dhoulmagus is the third Legacy Boss I have unlocked in Dragon Quest IX. Murdaw is much more annoying at level 1 than Dhoulmagus is though, or maybe my party is just a bit too strong now, lol. In either case, feel free to check out the article by clicking any part of the sentence.

In other news, I finished watching the third season of the Global Starcraft II League today. I was pretty surprised that the Protoss actually took the win in that tournament considering all the whining I've been reading about them being horribly underpowered. :P

I guess the official forums will all be like inb4terranisUP now since Terran remains the only race not to have won a single GSL tournament. Sometimes I miss Starcraft 2, until I remember how Blizzard has butchered customer satisfaction just to make a few more bucks.

Of course, one could argue that I'm worse than the average forum goer considering I seem to whine about Blizzard at regular intervals. Me, who paid a deposit to reserve the game TWO YEARS before it came out. Yeah, I used to be a Blizzard fanboy. All the more reason to be pained with their current agenda.

Anyways, I don't really have much more to say today, so I'll just bid you farewell and hope you have lots of fun.

Dhoulmagus Map Get! Also, a blog update.

I finally got that forsaken map off of Murdaw. Ironically, after about two good hours of failed attempts on a previous night, I got it within 3 tries this morning. So, now that I've beaten on Dhoulmagus (which happens to be easier at level 1 than Murdaw is at level 16, go figure!) for a bit, I'm going to write an article about him for my Legacy Boss Hunter series, as promised. I'm not sure WHEN I'll do it exactly, but just stay tuned, for I'll be announcing it in this blog as usual.

In other gaming blog news, I've removed blueadvertise from this site, as they didn't make me a single cent. So, now I'll be using that advertising space right below the blog description to promote Clickbank products related to videogames (affiliate marketing is kind of my side job). The banner I have placed in that spot as of the time of this writing is for the Warcraft Blueprint. You can read more about it by following the banner or clicking on any part of this sentence.

With World of Warcraft: Cataclysm being freshly released not too long ago, I figured this was a perfect time to bring something WoW-related to the table.

Well, hello there! I have gotten my first videogame article published at Triond. It's a little review/exposé of my thoughts related to Dragon Quest IX and why I believe it's an awesome game. Of course, if you've been following me at hubpages.com, the amount of DQ IX articles I've written up should've tipped you off to that already. ;)

To be honest, I'm not sure I'll be doing a lot of writing with them since they read your articles and then decide whether to publish your content or not. I prefer to be the boss of what I write. After all, it's not like I'm forcing the reader to view it in the first place. I've also heard bad things about their forum community and have witnessed how biased the moderators there can be. Basically, pretty disappointing.

In either case, you can expect at least two more articles at hubpages.com soon. The first one will be the Legacy Boss Hunter article for Dhoulmagus as soon as I can get his map, and the second one will be the Armamentalist VUST article, as specifically requested by TGTASC. New Videogame Article - Legacy Boss Hunter: Murdaw (Part 2) !

Well, hello there. After about 100 years, I've finally written up the second part to my Legacy Boss Hunter: Murdaw article. In the second part of this article, you'll be able to see what Murdaw drops on his way to level 16 and also see my current party setup, created just to bash him into the ground, within 10 turns or so. :D

Blog Name Changed and other Videogame Thoughts.

The post title says it all: I have decided to change the name of this blog.

You see, my original intent with this blog was to talk about videogames and what-not. However, ever since I started writing over at hubpages.com, I've realized that this blog has turned into more of a gateway for my articles and other videogame related things I can think up. Anyways, while the other title had more mystique, this one is more down to earth and describes the blog better, don't you think? :)

In other news, for those of you who follow me over at hubpages.com, you've probably realized that I've stopped updating my Fallout walkthrough. Bad things happened and, while I managed to back up my save files, I had to reformat my computer, so that's going to be delayed indefinitely. I might write up a summary of the rest of the plot to help out those who were following my walkthrough. You have my most solemn apologies, and I will come up with some way to compensate for this occurrence as soon as I can. :)

Anyways, I hope you like the new look of the blog (and by new I mean I took out the Adsense and have been dabbling with other ad companies).
