Shakuntala Devi —Human Computer - Don't forget this Indian legend

Shakuntala Devi was born on November 4, 1939 in Bangalore, India.

In Dallas she competed with a computer to see who give the cube root of 188138517 faster, she won.

In 1977 At university of USA she was asked to give mentally the 23rd root of 91674867692003915809866092758538016248310668014430862240712651642793465704086709659 32792057674808067900227830163549248523803357453169351119035965775473400756818688305 620821016129132845564895780158806771 (201-digit number).

She answered in 50seconds. The answer is 546372891. It took a UNIVAC 1108 computer, full one minute and 2 seconds (10 seconds more) to confirm that she was right after it was fed with 13000 instructions.

On June 18, 1980 she demonstrated the multiplication of two 13-digit numbers 7,686,369,774,870 x 2,465,099,745,779 picked at random by the Computer Department of Imperial College, London. She answered the question in 28 seconds.

Her correct answer was 18,947,668,177,995,426,462,773,730. This event is mentioned on page 26 of the 1995 Guinness Book of Records.

Now she is known to be Human Computer.

Major D P Singh was "declared dead" in an army hospital in July 1999 after a Pakistani mortar exploded just a meter away from him during the Kargil War. He was revived by a specialist, only to be told three days later that his right leg would be amputated below his knee because gangrene had set in.

Two months later, he was still at the hospital, weighing a mere 28kg, his stomach operated upon twice, a major part of his intestine cut, suffering partial deafness, and doctors giving up on trying to extract the 40 splinters still embedded in his body!

"When the doctors told me about the amputation, the first thing I told myself was now I will show the world how disabled people live. I was sure I will never compromise the way I lived. It was difficult for me to even walk initially. But over years, my mind and body found alternatives to work around the restrictions I was put through. Today, I can walk normally; my gait is as good as any normal person's. Yes, it took me 14 years to be able to start running," says Singh.

Grenadier Yogender Singh Yadav, 18 Grenadiers, in the wee morning hours
of 04 July 1999 was part of the Commando 'Ghatak' Platoon tasked to
capture three strategic bunkers on Tiger Hill. The approach was a
vertical cliff face, snowbound at 16,500 feet. Grenadier Yadav,
volunteering to lead the assault, was climbing the cliff face and fixing
the ropes for further assault on the feature. Half-way up, an enemy
bunker opened up machine gun and rocket fire. His Platoon Commander and 2
others fell to the heavy volume of automatic fire. Realising the
enormity of the situation, he continued to scale the sheer cliff face
alone through a volley of fire. In spite of having been hit by three
bullets in his groin and shoulder, displaying superhuman strength and
resolve, he climbed the remaining 60 feet, all by himself and reached
the top. With rare grit and courage, he crawled up to the bunker
critically injured and lobbed a grenade killing four Pakistani soldiers
and neutralising enemy fire. This act was directly instrumental in
facilitating the rest of the platoon in climbing up the cliff face.

Grievously
injured, but with reckless disregard to personal safety, Grenadier
Yadav now charged on to the second bunker and neutralised it, with two
of his colleagues in an extremely fierce hand-to-hand combat, killing
three Pakistani soldiers. Yhis extraordinarily gallant act motivated the
rest of the platoon which quickly traversed the treacherous terrain and
braving hostile fire, charged onto the enemy to capture Tiger Hill, a
vital objective. Throughout this operation, from scaling the sheer
vertical cliff face by rope for destruction of 2 Pakistani bunkers in
succession, Grenadier Yadav displayed indomitable spirit, determination
and action beyond the call of the duty. For his sustained display of the
most conspicuous personal bravery and gallantry of the highest order in
the face of the enemy, Grenadier Yogender Singh Yadav was awarded the
Param Vir Chakra, India's highest medal for gallantry. Jai Hind!! Jai

December 27, 2011 will not only be remembered as the day when Anna
Hazare took Mumbai by storm with his fast against corruption. This is
also the day when India’s national anthem – ‘Jana Gana Mana’ turned 100
years old.

Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Jana Gana Mana’ was first
performed on December 27, 1911, at the Calcutta Session of the Indian
National Congress which underscored a national movement. The Constituent
Assembly adopted ‘Jana Gana Mana’ as the national anthem on January 24,
1950.

Interestingly, Tagore’s ‘Jana Gana Mana’ overruled
Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s ‘Vande Mataram’ in the face of Muslim
opposition, thereby becoming the national anthem of India.

Written in Sanskritised Bengali, ‘Jana Gana Mana’ ran into controversy
when in year 2005, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court demanding
the inclusion of the word Kashmir and the deletion of Sindh, which
became a part of independent Pakistan after the 1947 partition. However,
the Supreme Court ruled against the petition stating that the national
anthem is “a hymn or song expressing patriotic sentiments or feelings”
and “not a chronicle which defines the territory of the nation”.

Lt.

After getting freedom, a meeting was organized to select the first General of Indian Army. Jawahar Lal Nehru was heading that meeting. Leaders and Army officers were discussing to whom this responsibility should be given.

In between the discussion Nehru said, "I think we should appoint a British officer as a General of Indian Army as we don't have enough experience to lead the same."Everybody supported Nehru because if the PM was suggesting something, how can they not agree?

But one of the army officers abruptly said, "I have a point, sir."

Nehru said, "Yes, gentleman. You are free to speak."

He said ,"You see, sir, we don't have enough experience to lead a nation too, so shouldn't we appoint a British person as first PM of India?"

The meeting hall suddenly went quiet.

Then, Nehru said, "Are you ready to be the first General of Indian Army? He got a golden chance to accept the offer but he refused the same and said, "Sir, we have a very talented army officer, my senior, Lt Gen Cariappa, who is the most deserving among us."

The army officer who raised his voice against the PM was Lt. General Nathu Singh Rathore, the first Lt General of the Indian Army.

If only a few hundred of Selfless leaders come forward, they can change the image of Armed Forces.

First Rank in State in Secondary School Examination
First Rank in University in Plus Two
First Rank in IIT Entrance Examination
First Rank in All India IIT Computer Science
First Rank in IAS Entrance Examination
First Rank in IAS Training Institute

On passing out from IIT Chennai Mr. Narayanaswamy was offered scholarship by the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology , USA .. He who came from a middle class family believed that he had a moral obligation to give something in return for the lakhs of rupees the government spent on him as an IIT student. He had the intelligence and conviction to realize that this money came also from the poorest of the poor - who pay up the excise duty on textiles when they buy cloth, who pay up customs, excise and sales tax on diesel when they travel in a bus, and in numerous other ways indirectly pay the government. So he decided to join IAS hoping he could do something for the people of this country. How many young men have the will power to resist such an offer from USA ? Narayanaswamy did never look at IAS as a black money spinner as his later life bears testimony to this fact.

After a decade of meritorious service in IAS, today, Narayanaswamy is being forced out of the IAS profession. Do you know why?

A real estate agent wanted to fill up a paddy field which is banned under law. An application came up before Narayanaswamy who was sub collector the, for an exemption from this rule for this plot of land. Upon visiting the site he found that the complaint from 60 poor families that they will face water logging due to the waste water from a nearby Government Medical College if this paddy field was filled up was correct. Narayanswamy came under intense political pressure but he did what was right - refused permission for filling up the paddy field. That was his first confrontation with politicians.

Soon after his marriage his father-in-law closed down a public road to build compound wall for his plot of land. People approached Narayanaswamy with complaint.

When talking with his own father-in-law did not help, he removed the obstructing wall with police help. The result, his marriage broke up.

As district Collector he raided the house of a liquor baron who had defaulted Rupees 11 crores payment to government and carried out revenue recovery. A Minister directly telephoned him and ordered to return the forfeited articles to the house of the liquor baron. Narayanswamy politely replied that it is difficult. The minister replied that Narayanaswamy will suffer.

In his district it was a practice to collect crores of rupees for earthen bunds meant for poor farmers, but which were never constructed. A bill for rupees 8 crores came up before Narayanaswamy. He inspected the bund. He found it very weak and said that he will pass the bill after the rainy season to ensure that the bund served the purpose. As expected the earthen bund was too weak to stand the rain and it disappeared in the rain. But he created a lot of enemies for saving 8 crores public money. The net result of all such unholy activities was that he was asked to go on leave by the government. Later such an illustrious officer was posted as "State Co-Ordinator, Quality Improvement Programme for Schools". This is what the politician will do to a honest officer with backbone - post him in the most powerless position to teach him a lesson. Since he found that nothing can be achieved for the people if he continued with the State Service he opted for central service. But that too was denied on some technical ground.

What will you do when you have a brilliant computer career anywhere in the world you choose with the backing of several advanced technical papers too published in international journals to your credit?

When you are powerless to do anything for the people, why should you waste your life as the Co-Ordinator for a Schools Programme?

Mr. Narayanaswamy is on the verge of leaving IAS to go to Paris to take up a well paid United Nations assignment. The politicians can laugh thinking another obstacle has been removed. But it is the helpless people of this country who will lose - not Narayanaswamy. But you have the power to support capable and honest bureaucra ts like Narayaswamy, G.R.Khairnar and Alphons Kannamthanam who have suffered a lot under self seeking politicians who rule us. You have even the power to replace such politicians with these kind of people dedicated to the country. The question is will you do the little you can do NOW? At least a vote or word in support of such personalities?

"What is your name?" – asked the teacher. "Jassem". . .. – answered the kid. "You are in America now. From now on your name will be Johnny," –replied the teacher. In the evening, Jassem returned home. "How was your day, Jassem?" – asked his mother. "My name is not Jassem. I’m in America and now my name is Johnny. " "Ah, are you ashamed of your name, are you trying to dishonor your parents, your heritage? Shame on you!" – and she beat him. Then she called his father and he too beat him. The next day Jassem returned to school.. When the teacher saw him with all the bruises she asked, "What happened to you little Johnny"? Well ma'am, 4 hours after I becoming an American, I was attacked by two Arabs at home."
When I reached melbourne, I thought atleast from television point of view Australia and India will be same. But, I was totally wrong. Here, news channels are only meant for news, not for entertainment like India. India must take action to curb the growing number of such entertainment channels. Most of the times they telecast something which cannot be termed as NEWS, and that story is telecasted as a BREAKING NEWS. I don't know how come all the stories telecasted by Indian News channels are termed as breaking news.

Whenever Indian News channels got something to increase their TRP, they make it a news. But, when there is some serious news, they don't even telecast it or telecast it in flash.

I don't want to highlight all, people know what our media is publishing. For example,
Recently, 12 terrorists killed and a young officer martyred. A total of 5 lines in the leading dailies and a scroll on the news channels. Hard to imagine this is the same media which was crying loud for soldiers just about 6 days back. Soldiers work on days other than 15th and 26th also.

Revisit : In last three years

Aug, 2008...I started my career in IT industry.....its been three years now...I tried to look back and analysed myself and try to figure out ..What I have learnt in the span of three years...It been a great journey started as a freelancer...a learner....Flex Developer with Metrixline.....Associate Consultant with Oracle Financial Services Software Limited....Staff Consultant with National Australia Bank...

Finally, here in Melbourne...I got some time to look back and revisit those chapters..which I traced in this span of Three years.

In last three years,

I learnt to operate three critical machines scanner, printer, Xerox.

I learnt to use three high end softwares, Microsoft word, excel, power point.

I learnt to use three great short cuts ..Ctrl+C....Ctrl+V....Ctlr+S...

I learnt to say three very important words for professional life, yes sir, OK sir, i’ll just do that sir.

I learnt to listen anything without any complain...

I learnt to wake up early....to sleep late..and continue to work ….when I really wanted to quit..

I learnt to face Monday...to fight for 5 days...to wait for Saturday.…

I learnt to work overtime on late nights, saturdays and sundays without any benfits...

I learnt to give reasons to family, friends and relatives for not making phone calls, messages…n mails...I learnt to
celebrate B'day...new year....n win of Indian cricket team, EPL teams...far away from loved ones..

In last one year...people say you learnt...u earned...u enjoyed....

But when I compare me with my self...I just sustained....I just tolerated....i just survived… for bucks or I don't know...

Few more than required to live... that I never demanded. I never dreamed....

For convenience of family..to avoid blame of society....to get tag of employment...I survived...just survived crushing my dreams...

I learnt to rejoice…to be happy….n to smile....when I already knew that I have got the wrong train.

I learnt that life and dreams can never meet...because when they meet both will loose their meaning.

I learnt that dreams are only meant for fairy tales..and bollywood movies....

In last three years...I think I learnt to live..

Independence Day in Melbourne

Since, I belongs to a family of soldiers, Independence Day and Republic day is bit important for me. All Indians are pretty attached with their Nation. We call India as mother land. I am very emotional too. Today is 14th August, I am thinking of getting a flag tomorrow to celebrate 15th August over here. Still I am not sure, where I'll get the Tricolor, but, I'll try mys best to get one, or else I paint one and take a print out to celebrate the biggest Indian festival.

Today, I am missing India to celebrate this festival which resembles our victory of freedom. For those who are not aware of this very fact, that India gained Independence from British Rule in 1947, 15 Aug, do realise what we have achieved in just 60 years. American compare us with them, although they are more than 200 years old independent country. :)

Although, we have many internal issues, but today we'll celebrate this festival as an Indian. I am proud to be an Indian. So many diversity in each and every aspect is an added advantage in India. No one can survive with so many religions, castes, states with different cultures, environmental diversities etc. But we still attached to each other with the thread of Nationality.

Missing India Today. :)

Happy Independence Day.

Let Anna Hazare's 16th August incident able to succeed in making each Indian's Dream come True.

Manchester United begins it campaign in EPL

I am a great fan of soccer. I love playing football, and I am playing this wonderfull game since I was 8 years old. I also represented my state, school, college and won few prizes too. I am not inspired by any famous footballer, but my father is a great footballer. I learned football from my father. Though we don't used to follow any clubs..reason ...to be frank we are not aware of these clubs..When I begin my journey with my father along with him, wherever his regiment is posted, we also shift along with them.

I keep playing soccer in school, with my dad's regiment guys and learned few things. Since this game is not that easy to lear tactics without coach. But I learned this much, so that I can be a part of any team in India. As few years back football was not that popular.

Lot of youngsters in India follow EPL. When I joined college, I also generated EPL following interest. Since, all my friends follow EPL, so whenever they talk about these teams, I used to listen them with lot of concentration. Soon, I also started going out with them into sports bars, recretion room late night, and gradually, I also started fighting with my friends on EPL issues. :P. This makes my support for ManU.

I do watch other matches also, but I don;t want to miss any ManU match. Last year ManU shown a great temperament, and hope they will carry it forward. After beating ManCity in a close encounter, ManU is running high on confidence.

Expecting great ManU and WBA battle. Since I shifted to Melbourne, now i need to wake up at 2 AM for this match...This will be exciting. :) Go, Go ManU Go.

Anna Hazare's Letter

I believe in Anna Hazare's dream and it will be fulfilled, today or tomorrow. So, have a look at his letter.

A decisive battle against corruption has begun. We are not against any political party. We want systemic reforms. We want a corruption-free India. After all, what are the people asking for – a strong anti-corruption law which provides for honest and time-bound investigations and trials that result in jail for the guilty, confiscation of embezzled money and their dismissal from service?
Are we asking too much? For two months, we were talking to the government. Government seems unwilling to take even small steps against corruption. Government appears insincere. We have met all prominent political leaders. We have tried everything. What do we do now? When I announced my indefinite fast from 16 August, the government threatened that they would crush us the way they crushed Baba Ramdev's peaceful agitation. Friends, this is a historic opportunity. We can't afford to lose it. We are determined to fight to the end. If they arrest us, we will peacefully offer ourselves. If they use batons and bullets, we will happily lay down our lives but will not leave the place. We will not retaliate. It will be a completely non-violent movement. “If you fast on 16 August, you will be crushed” – this is what they are saying. “We will impose section 144 on Jantar Mantar” – this is what they are thinking. But I say that if every citizen in this country takes off from his work from 16 August, comes on the streets in front of his house, at the crossing, with a tricolor in his hands shouting “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and raising slogans against corruption, they will fall short of batons and bullets.
The government may arrest one Anna Hazare but how will they arrest 120 crore Anna Hazares? They may impose section 144 at one Jantar Mantar but will they impose section 144 on the whole country? And let me tell you – the police and army is with us. At traffic signals, policemen stop us, express their support and wish us well; at Raj Ghat, the policemen donated generously for the movement! So, will you take off from your work from 16 August? Will you descend on the streets with me? This year, the country will wait for 16 rather than 15 August.

In solidarity,
Anna Hazare

Some Facts about India

Yesterday, I got this in mail, I knew few of these facts, but many of these facts are not known to me.
Hmmm..This is my first post regarding the online money making. I was amused to hear that online money making is possible. When I was in college my friends told me that we can make money online. When they told me for the first time, I hardly able to believe them. And their is a reason behind that also. If online earning is possible then why the people used to work for someone else. Why don't they earn online being at home, and be their own boss. Since, working for others means you will be held responsible for any kind of failures, and your achievements are less noticeable. This tends to happen in software industry. Being a computer geek, he or she can easily learn to earn money being online, so why they still work for others. But somehow my friends convinced me about earning online. I was a gaming addict so I am not able to spend that much time in earning or reading online about the earning fundas. My friends used to read about these earning mechanisms, and landed into PTC websites. They also told me about these websites. I though earned few times from PTC websites, but I hate that kind of earning from PTC websites. Sitting like a data entry operator and keep on visiting some websites which are nothing to do with my interests. So, i decided not to waste more time on these websites, and love to spend my time in playing computer games.

But the question still remains in my mind, whether online earning is possible or not. So, I started spending time in reading articles over net. And I leaned that me earning online is possible. Believe me, earning online is not an easy job, but once you started earning it becomes very easy to earn more. So let me tell you few things about earning online. Till now I was only aware of these PTC websites to make money online, but making money through these websites is not a good idea. These websites require a lot of time to earn pennies, and the learning is not worthy also.

So, instead of these websites, I started reading articles regarding the other money making online activities. These include make money by writing articles, make money by blogging, SEO optimization etc etc. Writing articles are not meant for me because of my poor English, I know it can be understandable, but its not that good which makes me write articles. So I decided to enter into blogging. Now, you might be wondering that writing articles might have earned me bucks, but blogging.... how?? Confused :O

Hmm..Yeah only blogging can't make money for you, to earn money from your blog you need to work a lot to make it a money making machine. Since this initial hard work may fetch you a good sum of money. You might know that to achieve bigger goals you need to start at least, and most difficulties are faced by the person are at the beginning. So. lets start a blog.

Though I started blog, but I am not aware of the fact, that blogging also means writing articles about something, at least something. Decide whatever you want to write about, so I again landed in the world of confusion. So I started thinking about the idea on which I can write, but landed nowhere, so I decided to write about anything which I like and which makes me think. So finally I started this blog, which have anything related to technical things, bachelors emotions, life of a bachelor, some online tricks and tips, making money tips etc.

So, finally I took the first step, this doesn't mean that I started making money. This is just the first step to make money through blogging. Now I started writing anything, but writing anything wont earn big money for you. There is something which needs to be followed so that your blog also listed in the search results when they search something about which you write. So, its always better to write about a particular topic, instead writing about anything, I also realized this later. When you focus on one thing then the ads which will be displayed on the blog are also relevant to the content you write about.

You must be wondering what are these ads now. These are the money making machine elements for you in your blog. A blog alone cant make money for you. What are these ads all about, there are many advertisers waiting to publish there ads on your blog, either you can directly own them or though some big fish, like google adsense, adbrite, bidvertiser etc. Once your blog is approved they'll provide you some java script that you need to embed in you blog, so that ads relevant you you content appears on you blog.

So this was the first step to start a blog to make money online, will provide details about adsense setup in next article, also tell you about the efficient use of adsense ads to make more money.

Most of the bloggers concentrate on money making from the blog, but never ever divert your self from the original idea of blogging. Keep posting good articles, and don't worry about the money, it will automatically follow, as soon as you able to grab your visitors.

Always interact with your visitors if you get a chance to interact with them via comments or something else. I would like to make friends, if any one like to.

Employee Referral Walk-in on 23rd and 24th Oct in PSPL

Interested people can send their CV to Pramod Sharma

Off - Campus Recruitment for SCJP Certified Freshers on 23rd Oct 2010

Before three months, everyone criticized these games, may be because of the corruption involved in it, unhygienic conditions, missing deadlines in completion of tasks etc. There were many reason s behind this, but one thing which come out after these games that India got the potential to stand head to head with the sports giants soon. The infrastructure in India is not that good as the conditions or the infrastructure, but still there are sportsmen in India who have dedication for their respective sports. Soon, worlds will see Indian athletes clinching medals in Olympics.

But, one thing I like to comment on some players of other countries who decided to quit before the launch of the games. Those players, quit games on security reasons and hygienic conditions. Can they answer this now, as no one fall ill during the games, and no activity occur related to security issues. Those people are responsible for spoiling Indian image in the world. Many people still can't digest India's emergence as a world player. One day while surfing internet, I come across a Yahoo Question from some person that states that "Why is India a developing country? Why not a third world country?". Thanks to the person who answered this question very well.

Yes, India still have problems, but they have the potential to prove themselves, but either because of the lack of facilities, or corruption in the India Government, always put us down. But one day we will come over it. Western Media, during the CWG games, seriously criticized the conditions that are made available to the athletes for the games, but I was closely following games, I dint heard any news related to any athlete who falls ill. During these days, also, I come across a news, in which I heard that Indian conditions are not as of some western conditions, commented by some Indian politician. These politicians, hardly know anything, but can't shut their mouth, also when they hardly aware of these nonsense comments. These small things really matter to a Developing countries.

On one hand we had launched a campaign called as "Incredible India", and on the other hand we are commenting this. We are here to provide world class facilities to anyone who visits us. If we lacks this time, we surely don't want others to comment on us next time. We know we can build those world class facilities and we will.

After the end of commonwealth games, a committee is created to probe into CWG scam, but this will only be prove success, if the people who are part of this scam put behind the bars as early as possible. By early I don't mean it will take 25 years, the results must be declared with in a span of 2 to 3 months. This will gain faith of the Indian citizens on Indian Law.

For a developing economy like India, hosting Commonwealth games is a big opportunity, no one can ensure that, there are no failures on hosting such a big event for the first time, instead of criticizing, one must appreciate. Even the India media is following the same footsteps to gain TRP. Indian Media must ask themselves, that what they have done to reinstate the faith of Indians and Peoples from the world. Being an Indian, I really feel glad to hear that closing ceremony of CWG Games was seen by 16 million people.
