Though officially we have closed giving reviews but we couldn’t say No When we received a copy of this novel. This novel was already seen in the BESTSELLERS on many shelves and we were equally curious to read.

First impression of the book is WOW! Cover page, print quality and presentation speak for itself. Penguin is known for the perfection and this book is no exception. Though there is not much of imagination put in if we talk about the cover design but it somewhere strikes the chord and magnetize the viewer.

Story revolves around Daksh, who is a successful author. He has a loving wife, money, status – everything except a child. So when he meets his childhood friend Mahesh, he is overjoyed. But his happiness is short-lived. He learns that Mahesh’s follies have thrown his family apart. Daksh wants to help his friend, more so for the sake of his little daughter. However, soon they are sucked into a racket of cheating, lies and deceit. And things are not as easy to sort out as they first thought. This is the story of the true test of friendship.

Story-line is gripping and it captures the reader more into the character and plot with every page read. It is a decent read of 256 pages and there are so many twists in the book that it really becomes impossible to gauge to what will happen next. Reader is guaranteed to be entertained from start till the end.

Though we never give any hints in our reviews to kill the excitement of any book however we can’t stop ourselves from disclosing here the harsh facts revealed in this book which is a tight slap on the faces of people who cheats people on the name of quick money via work from home and on the name of multi level marketing. We have been in one of the sessions of MLM and we could correlate to the scenes where Mahesh was trapped by a few of the characters who were into MLM trap business. Not disclosing anything further, we leave it up to the readers to experience it themselves. An eye opener!!!

This book is unique with concept and with the way treatment is given to every character where enough detailing is given to help readers visualize the scenes.

A worthy read.

BFB - Tell us something about your book “Lord of Darkness” first.

Author - Sure, I will rather share the synopsis of the book first.

Arpita, a studious, grade seeking student from Pune university, finds it really hard to get a replacement for her old hard disk under a thousand bucks. But, when she finally finds a second-hand disk through the help of her friend, Shipra, she couldn't help but notice that things in her life are no more as they used to be- the horrifying death of Anwar, the one who installed the disk, the presence of a mysterious, password protected folder in that disk, named ‘Billycan hill’, and a presentation that vaguely mentions a location where one can travel through past and future. After numerous efforts, they finally locate this bizarre spot and decide to visit Moghal Empire to sell a few electronic items to these ancient people to make some money. But, Dobler, an ardent follower of Satan, bullies them to change their plans at the last moment. Finally, Arpita and her chaps end up in the Satanic era near the ‘Church of Satan’ in the pursuit of the mighty Ring of Beelzebub, and this is where the deadly game of lust and power begins.

This book took the final shape after I met a lot of black magic practitioners. It is not just a book; it is a life I have lived.

BFB - Sounds interesting! If you were so influenced with the art of Black Magic, why you decided to write about Krishna?

Author - Where there is good, there must be something to compare with to complete the cycle of antonyms and that’s when we say bad also exist. If there is no darkness, no one will wait for the sunrise. Both are equally powerful components and after darkness what better than writing about Krishna?

BFB - What is the storyline of your fifth novel, “In Krishna’s courtroom: After Death?”

Author - This is your story, my story and story of any other common man.

Kama is a young man – a professional who does not believe in God, and on the contrary – he tills towards Satanic rituals and because they provide him immediate relief and satisfaction. One fine day, he is bewildered to find himself in an unusual place, it is Judgement Day for him. He is wondering if he will be sentenced to Heaven or Hell. However matters takes an unusual turn and he finds himself in the Courtroom of Lord Krishna, with whom his case rests.

The Lord is in a quandary because he does not know how to administer justice in this case.

What follows in this book is a dialogue between Lord Krishna, the sages and Kama.

BFB - You wrote about Krishna and you spoke about bringing light after darkness, but you are talking about death and life after death in your Krishna’s book. How can it be full of light if the baseline of the book is Death itself?

Author - Don’t be judgmental. Your blog have reviewed the book before this interview is taken. I know it was done by a different person but this is what my point is. Till the time someone will not read the book he will not understand the beauty of “Life after Death”. Here is a copy of my Krishna’s book, please go through it and we will meet again.

BFB - What is your next project about?

Author - My next project is about you and me. I mean to say, it will be a complex story of a middle class couple and their share of happiness and distress. For the first time I have tried to write about relationships and the hick ups. This book will deal with the thirst of a middle man, thirst for money and power.

BFB - Any other projects under progress...?

Author - I am working on many projects. One of them is about magical realism “Mystic Child”. One under writing is “A virtual shit called Love”. One project in Hindi will be completed soon.

BFB - Who will be the publisher for your upcoming titles?

Author - My next project is scheduled to be published by Penguin Random House. For other projects, I am still undergoing discussion with different publishers.

BFB - Mehta Publishing House gave you the first break and they published two of your novels but we did not see any other collaborated project again. Any reason in specific?

Author - Nothing like that, I seriously want to work with them again. The only fact is that we have not finalized on any other project yet, but for sure they are one of my favorite publishers.

In Lord Krishna's Court After Death by Vikrant Shukla

It doesn't happen very frequently that we get to read different genres from a single author. There are a lot of authors and almost all of them specialize in a genre - love, romance, horror, social moods etc. When we get novels from Ravinder Singh or Durjoy, we already have the idea of the story line in our mind, that the story will revolve around a boy, a girl, family, issues, infatuation and all that common mellow drama. But with this author, we get a new flavor every time we put our hands on his books.

We have read all books of this author, Call Centre – An Inside Story, The Wrong Chase, Sukoon (Hindi), Lord of Darkness and now “In Lord Krishna’s Courtroom : After Death.”

We have got a different flavor every time. All the mentioned novels are unique with concepts and the story line nowhere matches the other. This is the reason that we have never seen any reader of Vikrant Shukla speaking negative about any of his novels.

This book is an epic! I say that not only because it talks about Lord Krishna but also because for the first time someone really making an effort to create a dialogue between the God and a Human Being.

This book should not be confused with a religious literature at all, it talks about what everyone of us goes through, this is not just about the God, the book is about the contrast between Good and Bad.

This book talks about so many things which no one of us is clear about and opens a third eye which gives us a push to think beyond the limits.

This book, no doubt, is a masterpiece and every page gives a clear idea of how much research is done by the author to build the magical story line.

Readers should not be confused with the cover page where Lord Krishna is depicted. It is not just about Hindu religion and for Hindu readers. This is a social reveller and will make every reader think. Even after the book is kept aside, the characters, the plot and the narration will keep on boggling your mind.

This book is not just an entertainer, it is an eye opener. It gives the reader a roller-coaster ride of what exactly happens between life and death.

There is nowhere mentioned in the book that it is a work of fiction and it is also claimed by the author that the narration of the book is based on the “Out of body experiences”, hard to believe for the minds ruled by science however the detailed description mentioned in the book can’t be just imagination. The readers are for sure going to be bowled with the detailed narrative as if someone is looking at something and narrating the scenes.

I was amazed with the way Krishna was awed by the questions one young professional puts up and also the way those questions were answered. A wonderful story to experience.

I wasn't aware of Lord Vishnu’s tenth incarnation as Lord Kalki in the coming future till I read the story in this book. The complete and detailed story of Kalki incarnation is one of the major USPs of this book.

Talking about the quality of the print and the paper. After a long time we saw a book where the feel of the book is rich. It is nowhere behind any of the finest books available in India.

A hardcover would have done wonders for this book. This is a collectible and I would like to keep a copy of this book in hardcover in my collection. I hope the publisher will give a conscious call to this feedback and request.

The only thing missed was in the section “About the Author”, it talks about author’s knowledge and interest in fields related to Satanism which was the description and the story line of his last work, “Lord of Darkness.” Though it doesn't affect the story line or anything but it could have been avoided to ensure no religious sentiments are hurt.

Kudos to the author for managing to blow the minds of his readers with back to back entertainment with different flavors.

Have heard a lot about Vikrant’s next book “Life – A Sucking Trap”, hope to soon have hands on the first copy to review.

A must read for all.

Lord of Darkness by Vikrant Shukla

After a long wait, finally I received a copy of Lord of Darkness.

It is a decent read of 267 pages and magic, limits of imagination and an interesting story plot made me sit back, relax and finish the book in two sittings.

Story goes like –

Starting with the cover, it is completely in sync with the story line and gives an expression of chilling the spine. Paper quality is above average and book is quite heavy to carry.

Forward section in this book is worth looking at; many reader, followers and celebrities have written rave reviews about the book. Reading the foreword is like creating a mood for the magical read.

There are several plots running in the story-line at the same time, the readers will be shocked to see the connection of the running plots. Once someone will pick up the book, the characters will not let the reader keep the book down till the end. The grey characters, villains, magic spells and other detailing of the occult science makes this book an outshining star in this genre. I have not seen too many Indian authors writing on off beat subjects and I am glad that the author of Lord of Darkness and Sukoon is doing an outstanding job here.

While reading the book, readers will understand the research that the author must have done before penning down the book. After the last release of the author (Sukoon – In Hindi), this books is an extension of black magic literature.

Briefly, Billycan hill proves to be a perfect blend of "Mekkana's gold, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit". It has strong marketing capabilities to become a National bestseller.

The only flaw in the book is the missed spacing between some of the words however it doesn't create any hurdle for the reader however if it is a miss, it’s a miss. That’s why proof reading should be done with sincere efforts.

Best Fiction Books highly recommend this book to the readers.

“बेस्ट फिक्शन बुक्स” पहली बार किसी हिंदी पुस्तक की समीक्षा प्रकाशित कर रहा है. जैसे ही इस पुस्तक के प्रकाशक के जरिये यह पुस्तक प्राप्त हुई, हमारे साथ जुड़े हुए समीक्षकों में इस पुस्तक को पढने की जैसे होड़ सी लग गई. सभी विक्रांत शुक्ला की पहली हिंदी पुस्तक पढने के लिए बेहद उत्साहित थे. इस पुस्तक की समीक्षा करने की जिम्मेदारी “हुसैन मालिक” ने उठाई है.

समीक्षा –

पुस्तक का कवर पृष्ठ बेहद आकर्षक और ध्यान खींचने वाला है. पुस्तक को हाथ में लेते ही एक अजीब सा एहसास होता है. पुस्तक का छापा उत्तम दर्जे का है और साफ ज़ाहिर होता है की प्रकाशक ने पूरे दिल से इस पुस्तक के प्रकाशन पर काम किया है.

इस पुस्तक को देख कर ही दहशत का एहसास होता है और जैसे जैसे एक के बाद एक पन्ने पढ़ते जाते हैं, यह साफ़ होता जाता है की यह पुस्तक कमज़ोर दिलवालों के लिए नहीं है. बड़ी ही सफाई से एक-एक पात्र का आगमन होता है और वो कहानी का अभिन्न हिस्सा बनता जाता है. किसी भी लेखक के लिए यह बहुत ज़रूरी है की वो अपने पाठक से आगे का सोचे और विक्रांत शुक्ला ने अपने अंग्रेजी उपन्यासों से पहले ही वो पहचान बना ली है की जब तक पाठक उनकी पुस्तक का आखिरी पन्ना नहीं पढ़ ले, उसके मन में यही चलता रहता की आगे क्या होने वाला है. यही विक्रांत शुक्ला ने इस पुस्तक में किया है, जब भी लगता है की कड़ी हाथ आ गई है, उसी पल कुछ ऐसा होता है की पाठक चकरा सा जाता है, और उलझता चला जाता है. लेखक अपनी इस कला के लिए बधाई के पात्र हैं. कुछ लेखकों को ऊपरवाले का आशीर्वाद मिला होता है और विक्रांत शुक्ला उन्ही लेखकों में से एक हैं जो आखिरी पन्ने तक अपने पाठकों को बांधे रख सकते हैं.

कहानी में डर है, दहशत है, कुछ ऐसा माहौल बनाया गया है की अगर पाठक किसी अकेले घर में या किसी सूनसान जगह पर इस पुस्तक को पढ़ेगा तो हर आहट पर उसका चौंकना लाजिमी है. कहानी के पात्र कब सच्चाई बन कर दिलों-दिमाग पर छाने लगते हैं, इस बात का एहसास तक नहीं होता और किसी बुरे सपने को तरह इसके पात्र सपनों में दिखने भी लगते हैं.

कहानी घूमती है दो मित्रों के चारों तरफ, एक मित्र लाचार है और बस आत्महत्या करने ही वाला है की उसके मित्र को उसकी ज़रुरत पड़ती है. देव् नाम का पात्र अपने मित्र महेश को मदद के लिए बुलाता है क्यूंकि उसके घर में अजीबों-गरीब घटनाएं हो रहीं हैं. बस उसी के साथ शुरू होता है डर और दहशत का वो सफ़र जो पाठकों का सुकून हराम करने के लिए काफी है. हॉरर और सस्पेंस इस पुस्तक के हर पन्ने में समाया हुआ है. जल्दी ही अगर इस कहानी पर कोई फिल्म भी बन जाए तो मुझे बिलकुल भी आश्चर्य नहीं होगा.

पुस्तक में कहीं भी अश्लील भाषा का प्रयोग नहीं किया गया है. बड़ी ही साफ़-सुधरी भाषा में सब कुछ लिखा गया है. भाषा सरल और रोचक है और पुस्तक पढ़ते ही एहसास होने लगता है की शब्द किसी शब्दों के जादूगर की कलम से निकल रहे हैं.

पाठकों को सलाह दी जाती है की इस पुस्तक को रात में या अकेले में न पढ़ें. हॉरर के शौक़ीन लोगों के लिए यह पुस्तक एक तोहफे की तरह है.

इस पुस्तक का अंग्रेजी अनुवाद पढना खासा रोमांचक अनुभव होगा.

The Paperback Badshah by Abhay Nagarajan

When you read, “The comical Journey”, you expect humor and objects to laugh, I was expecting moments of fun. The book did have some fun elements however not as much as I expected or anyone else would expect after reading the tagline on the book. Not talking in general, it didn’t work out very well for me as a reader. It may work for some, not making a generic comment here!

It was not a boring read; I was entertained at some parts. The book can be read to kill some leisure time.

A guy who is sick and tired of his job, he is from an upper middle class family and can afford to take a break to write his manuscript. The book written was “The Paperback Badshah”. People made fun of him, his friends laughed when they came to know that he is writing a love story as he had never been in love. And it finally happened!

One think I don’t like with some of the books is about authors mixing language, with this book I found usage of a lot of Hindi words. Either you write in Hindi or English or some other language, why to mix and make a mixed language soup which not everyone is able to digest?

I think the publisher was well aware in advance about the quality of content in this book and that is why they didn't invest much in designing the cover or in giving a better quality print.

I don’t want to be too harsh here however being a reviewer I have to be! The book was not a humor book for me as most of the jokes failed to make me laugh. Now days publishing business is getting a professional structure however with this book I don’t know why Shrishti wanted to take a chance. I don’t know if this is what the author can write as I have not read any of his other books however what went wrong with this book is beyond what I can think of. If it was just a marketing strategy, it failed!

The book lost track at so many places and lacked proper editing. To be honest, I kept the book down so many times and always picked it again with a hope of getting something in coming pages, disappointed.

I repeat it was not a boring read; I was entertained at some parts. The book can be read to kill some leisure time. And to add, to kill leisure time only!

Complete/Convenient by Ketan Bhagat

A famous writer’s younger sibling getting into the same profession, ‘nothing to be shocked about’, was my first expression. The famous author getting published by Rupa and the sibling from Shrisht …. I better stop here and speak about the book! (Is it not natural to think this way? It will happen for sure as people will compare in their sub conscious mind at least)

I read the book and I went slowly, I was delighted to see that Ketan did a good job indeed. The book has a plot, characters and narrative is also satisfying. Writing style is also good however lacked innovation, there are emotions, family drama, description etc. but still it went good. At times, going overboard with emotions grabs your head and you started to feel that the spice of emotional flavours are added considering Indian readers.

People might be entertained but at certain points I clear felt it was too much. Too much detailing at places and I think editors of the books were overruled with this aspect at least.

The title of the book didn't quite match with the story. The quality of the print was very nice however design of the cover is not attractive.

I liked the simple writing style; it is easy to connect with the plot. The story is good and looked like an autobiography however flows like a typical Karan Johar movie.

Author indeed left an impression and it will a good read for people who like emotions in detail.

English Bites! by Manish Gupta

This book is not a novel and it was very clear when I held the complementary copy of the book in my hands for the first time.

This book is about Manish’s journey in mastering the English language. Readers should not take this book something to replace the requirement of the basics of English knowledge; you need to have Basic English knowledge to understand and making use of the tips shared in the book. I think it is the first book written where someone has shared his journey of understanding and mastering a language.

I don’t know how easy it was for the author to sell this idea to the publisher as looking at the way publishing industry is going, most of them are manipulated and governed by some of the so called editors who run the show with some agents. Whatever the case is, I am glad this book is published. It is worth a read!

The book is filled with details and appealing flow about topics and narrations and all are about improving the vocabulary. This is a very effective and non-traditional way to learn the language. Initially I found it boring and wasn't able to understand to what is happening but soon I started realizing that this book is written differently for people like me who can try to master the language and can also realize at the same time – there is more to learn every day.

The book covers topics, words and also tips/tricks to help us understand the words and their meanings. Go slow, is the mantra to read this book which I soon realized and with that started enjoying the read. The details given in the book are mind boggling and will help anyone for sure who are willing to give a conscious effort to improve their skills and get better in the language. What I really liked about the book is the way it progresses; the transition is smooth and makes it a pleasure to read this book.

The cover page of the book gives an insight of the book and it grabs immediate attention.

I would like to congratulate and thank the author for writing this book, an honest effort!

When Strangers Meet by K Hari Kumar

Interesting title, nice cover, good quality print and a gripping synopsis – this is enough for a reader to pick up the books from the shelf. It feels good to hold the book, credit goes to the publisher!

This book is another example of a quick read. I liked the narration of the book; it’s simple yet grips the reader and leaves an impression. I was expecting to find sections in the story line and I was right! Although overall the book sails smooth however at some places I felt the story was dragged, was it really required or writer was trying to increase some pages to his novel? Anyways, I liked the way the story ended, a bit of surprise and shocking. I liked it!

The writing is simple and the book is easy to read especially for the people who want to read some English fiction with not a difficult to understand narration.

The publisher is known to throw books at reasonable rates and this book is no exception.

Editing is not at par, I was a bit disappointed. I do not want to spoil the review with pointing errors here

however there was a lot of scope to remove some of the evident errors in the book.

The climax of the story is not very new, but is good and narrated well. The book could have been a much better read with more work on the language.

The author was successful to leave an impression.

The title is not original and unique; there was a book by the same title written by Love N. Lee. Authors should give a second thought and work on finding a title that makes their work unique, a lot of people are dependent on search engines to find details of anything and everything; books are no exception.

I am reading this author for the second time, his first book “The group of fools” didn't strike any chord in me and I was looking forward to read this book as I really wanted to see if the writer evolved or not. I was taken aback when I saw that the book is published under a self publishing unit…..But, I was wrong. My assumptions were stumped when I started reading the book.

I liked the fact that this book is a quick read, just 130 pages and you are through with a story with some twists and interesting turns.

The character of Sam Chacko is the most interesting while the climax is been ended with a hope that there can be a sequel following to this book, I will not be shocked and to be honest, I will be waiting.

Talking about the language and the editing part of the book, Author is improving! I read his first book and I was switched off as the book had so many errors however with this book, if I have to compare with his debut book, this is far better as a final product. Though the language is still not very crisp which is really required. The narration of the story is simple, if it was to be complicated, there would have been some added pages in the book.

The cover page is nice and attractive, the quality of the print is above average and it can do average business however the availability of the book can be a challenge. I have no idea if the publisher is doing something to market the book or not however as per my experience self publication units cannot give a structured marketing to any book for which they are charging to publish in advance; it makes no business craving for them to spend some extra thousand bucks.

I liked the book and I wish the author good luck for his future ventures.

The Secrets of the Dark by Arka Chakrabarti

The title of the book is not selected intelligently. There is a popular game by this title as well and search engines will not give fruitful results for this book if the name of the Author or the Publisher is not added to the search text.

Story line of the game is - Your friend is a journalist who is staying in a seemingly quiet desert town. After getting involved with a story involving the dark forces, he is kidnapped by three dark priests! Now they are getting ready to sacrifice him to provide the Demon of Darkness with limitless power, and it’s up to you to stop them! Save your friend in Secrets of the Dark: Temple of Night, a challenging Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure game!

I will not be surprised if the readers will try to find a relation of story with the game. “Game of Thorns” hooks close to the story line. It puts a question mark on the originality of the story line.

The cover page of the novel did not grip my attention as it did not compliment the story completely. It doesn't give a reason of a reader who is surfing for books in a book store, looking for an interesting read.

The page and print quality is class and the publisher deserves an appreciation for that.

The story starts very grippingly and the author was successful in leaving an impression. The book is an interesting read and keeps the reader hooked till the end; however end is yet to come! A lot of mystic turns and twists kept me entertained. I would be waiting to read the next book.

Editing is a concern with this book and there was a lot ignored.

This book is recommended as a good read for fantasy lovers and I am glad to see Indian Authors writing something else over love stories.

Event story of Vikrant Shukla at Amdavad National Book Fair 2013

Amdavad National Book Fair was held from 01^st till 07^th May 2013 at Gujarat University Convention Hall Drive-in Road, University Area, Amdavad.

One of the main attractions of the Book Fair was the “Author’s Interaction + Book Reading + Book Signing Session” with Vikrant Shukla. It was awaited by a number of people and as expected it was an action packed event. The Author came casually dressed, people meeting him for the first time were astonished to see a young writer. Dressed up in blue jeans, blue t-shirt, the author came with a casual look and that was complimented with his humorous approach. His Down to Earth personality won many hearts in no time.

Welcome speech was given by Parul Bhadoria, the Strategy Head of Mehta Publishing House. She looked gorgeous in a green sari, a typical Indian attire. Later, Vikrant came on the stage & grabbed the attention of the audience and started sharing the synopsis of his books, Call Centre An Inside Story & The Wrong Chase. As expected, the audience was mesmerized.

One of them asked, “How is your book different from Chetan Bhagat’s One night a @ call centre?” The response given was, “We should not compare these two books even though they are based on the common theme i.e. Call Centre. I have read Mr. Bhagat’s novel and I liked it, however I felt there were some realistic things missing. The call centres are not so easy to work at, life at a call centre is not a happy ride all the time, people can’t go out to have party and booze while they are on the shift. I have worked in the call centre industry for the past eight years and therefore wanted to present a realistic story. Mehta Publishing House showed their trust in me and the main appreciation came when you liked the book. The core difference between two books is that the latter is coming from the horse’s mouth”, this response was followed with a big round of applause.

The second phase of his session was about answering the questions asked by the audience. Gayatri Lodha, a 13 year old young writer (Author of Gayatri’s Math Tricks) asked, “What inspired you to write?” and the response given was, “It was due to my loneliness. I was never a party animal, I had nothing special to do over the weekends and I wanted to do something creative and I ended up penning up my thoughts on my laptop”, said Vikrant with a smile on his face.

Post the interaction with the audience, the team of Mehta Publishing House came back to their stall which was one of the most attractive stalls at the book fair. Vikrant met with a number of readers and signed copies of his books for them and his positive gestures and interaction was highly appreciated by everyone. His fans were happy and Vikrant met everyone who were waiting anxiously for his visit to their city.

Something strange happened, when a young man approached Vikrant and asked, “Are you Vikrant? Do you remember that your interview was published on our website?” “Which Website, can you please help me recollect?” responded Vikrant. “Spectralhues”, replied that young man. “Oh, I remember…..” and the communication commenced. The young man whose name was Prashant Gandhi proposed Vikrant to be published on the front page of their monthly magazine “Moments”, Vikrant accepted the proposal.

One of the main attractions of the event were the imprinted mugs where a famous dialogue from Vikrant’s novel was mentioned with the logo of Mehta Publishing House, complemented with a smiling picture of Vikrant Shukla. It was gifted to people who visited the stall and to the winners of the interactive games held at the stall. Mugs were also given to people who bought books in bulk from the stall.

Mayor of Amdavad City, Mrs. Meenaxiben Patel visited the stall and had a candid discussion with the author. She was thrilled to see a young author doing so well in writing and was curious to know about his published and forthcoming books.

Overall the event was a super success.

Reading novels from the debut authors is always exciting however most of the times it becomes a nightmare to finish; I think you understand what I mean to say here. Most of the debut authors now write out of desperation to get published and after failing to get the book approved by some publisher they opt to self publish and pay for that, results are disaster for the authors and readers as well.

This novel changed the perception!

To start with, the cover page and quality of the book is international standards. I was impressed, it is very important for any reader to feel good, carrying the book with them. Full score should be given for the designer of the cover and publisher for giving a quality print and pages.

Reading the blurb at the back side of the book gives a glimpse of this book to be a love story however it is not just a love story. Reading the first chapter set the mood when one of the characters was laid off his job and was sitting in the bar. It is a perfect kick start for the story. The character, Aditya, lost his job due to recession and is sitting at the bar with last of his money. He met a lady, Radhika and his life changes drastically after that meeting.

Story line is good however I found that the story was not moving straight, the author chose to move the story more in a zig-zag approach.

I liked the way the story is narrated, author definitely maintained the grip on the story line and as a reader I enjoyed reading the work. The author managed to mark his presence. Characters were defined well and the plot of the story was also managed well which keeps on swinging from past to present.

I was not fully satisfied with the editing work, at some parts the short sentences becomes evident. At times, it is very important to manage a flow in delivery; short sentences gave it a break at times.

A good read. I would like to congratulate the Author and the Publisher for giving a decent read after a long time.

Looking forward to read more from them........

Holding the book in hand is not a feel good factor. Publisher didn’t bother to give any justice to the look and feel of the book. Cover design doesn’t speak anything and fail to grab attention. It looks like a self sponsored book where publishers are least interested in investing in cover design and good quality of papers etc.

Reading the synopsis mentioned on the back cover could have been illustrated better. It is more of introduction of the characters and doesn't really create any zest.

The book talks about a serious issue – Jihad. I liked the author’s guts to start his writing journey with a sensitive topic. Was it a card played to get sure success or was it done with some other intentions?

Any book talking about Jihad can’t be covering a lot in 166 pages (including title page, dedication page etc.) – A thought of anyone who picks up a book with getting some insights of something.

I will not refrain to appreciate the author for collecting a lot of information and knowledge about this topic. At certain places, the book really talks what it is about. The author managed to maintain a good tone. As the story is narrated, it also talks about 26/11 attacks in Mumbai, story hovers around a lot. If I could sense it right, author wanted to speak about the lot of things, if that was the case, why he didn't think of increasing the word count to give justice to the book?

The book is priced at Rs. 150 which is not complimented with the quality provided by the publisher. The author and the publisher should consider reprinting the book with a better cover design and quality of paper, with this quality I really doubt if the author will get noticed in the market.

The author proved with his work that his writing and thinking style is different and we can expect to read better novels in the future.

This book will attract only the readers interested in reading political controversies and riots. The story line is not mass appealing.

Overall I liked the book and if it was not for the poor quality of cover design and paper quality, the book could have picked up the market. With what I have in hand, it will not give anything to the author at least.

Let’s begin with the book cover and print quality. A black background and a mime artist with closed eyes catches an attention, a catching cover which enhances curiosity, and also goes well with the concept of the book. It gives a thought to the reader before even turning pages.

Print and page quality is also quite impressive.

Kunal came up as a serious writer with his stories and I was pleased to read the book, nine stories about life, about people who failed one way or the other. The book is not a regular read, it strikes the thinking chords.

If you are a random reader and looking for a light read in form of a collection of short stories, this book is not for you. It’s a serious read. One great thing which I noticed was the connection of stories which flows as you move on reading. If someone will read the stories randomly and will not go by the sequence, he will not enjoy reading this book. It goes with pros and cons, it proves that writer is not trying to present a regular read and he is successful with that. At the same time, for casual love saga reading crowd will not find this book entertaining.

But the fact is that writer proved it. Well done!

Editing is another notable thing about this book. Full justice is given, choice of words at places is profound however doesn’t impact much. I liked the description of plot, characters, story line and emotions.

This book will leave the reader with a thought and Kunal must have worked really hard to pin down his imaginations. His narration is controlled and he managed to do justice with characters. It is not a read for everyone but yes. Will be an excellent read for people who want to read something off-beat and who understand literature. A novel and collection of stories is not just about love, romance and sex. This book will satisfy reading hunger of people who read books for a rising thought.

I really liked the look of the book and I would like to keep it in my collection.

“Journey of a Lifetime”, I loved the title. I was happy to hold the book as it didn’t speak about Love story, romance and broken relationships in the first go. Sorry to say, I am not really against any love stories however the way they are written now a day are not really leaving any scope for even a perfect writer to make any mark on anyone. Love story market is spoiled.

I didn’t like the quality of the book cover, it looked below average. Book cover is the identity of a book and with looking at the book, a reader judges the capacity if any book. It should give a reflection of the story; it should highlight what a reader can expect from a book. It failed, big time. Paper quality is good and the print is also clear. Once the reader will start to read, it will not be a problem however just looking at the cover design, colour combination and confusing synopsis, will hit the sales. Why will someone pay Rs. 150 without even knowing what he is going to read? If the book is going for re-print, the Author and the Publisher should think of looking at these things to make it better sold in the market.

Story line is good; it doesn’t grip however it flows. I liked it.

There are a couple of evident flaws in writing style however a reader will not be impacted till he is not really trying to find errors. However the editor must have had a tough time editing this book. It is evident that the book is written on Microsoft Word and the Author freely used right clicks to get ‘synonyms’ to get some power packed replacements of his words. It was evident as at times the usage of words was not complementing the script. I have observed this trend with many debut authors now days.

They are under pressure to make their book like an international standard however they should not forget that their initial market will be India.

At times, the story was meeting eyes and I was expecting a boom however every time it was just missed.

It is a decent read and I recommend it to people who are looking for a decent read over a weekend. The author can do really well; he has got a good flow and imagination. He should work towards reading more before he put on his hands on writing some other book.

I will look forward to read more work from this Author.

I will start with the cover of the book. Cover is decent, though looks dull. Quality of paper and print is good and is soothing to hold and read. It doesn’t look like a quality book and a quality read at the first look however I was looking forward to read it.

Title of the book was something which attracted me, not a stereo typed normal love story types. I had high expectations from this book.

This book is just another, regular, mono types love story which we might have heard, read or seen somewhere. Not really written. Said or heard the first time. Most of the debut writers in India ring the same bell, some way or the other.

As far as the story line is concerned, this book has nothing new to offer. It has all the ingredients of a typical love story.

The tragedy in the end is very make over types; it looks unreal and also unsurprising because the reader already knows all along that Megha's love for Raghav is not true. Also, most of the incidents in the story are so predictable. Flow of the book is a kind, where the reader already knows what is going to come up on the next page. That’s not what a reader picks up a book for!

Looking at the writing style of the author now, “Somewhat” is used so many times in the book that this word kept haunting me for long after I kept the book down. The good part is that Author or editor of the book spent good time with the grammar and editing of the book, I didn’t find much errors. Good job on that part.

Overall, it is a decent read for 125 bucks, if someone is looking for reading something on a lighter note however not really recommended to anyone who is willing to read something unpredictable.

This book looked like a dream of someone, as if someone desperately wanted to share his mind and heart. It is a small and short read with 150 pages. This book caught my attention as for the first time I saw a page from the editor as “Foreword”, strange! However after reading that my expectations caught fire and I expected to read a finely polished piece after a long time. I will start with the story line, as complemented by the Title itself, it is a love story and differently it is a teen’s story. More talking like infatuation stages. Flow did not go well and kept on fluctuating between a hidden feeling and studies. Author tried his level best but homework was not done at all. It looked like all of a sudden someone decided to pick up a notepad and a pen and started to write. It took a whole lot of efforts to make the grip, Story line was good and there was a lot of scope to narrate it with a gripping impact but didn’t happen till the end. Author was more inclined towards expressing what he felt but it doesn’t work always as readers expect a grip and mind blocking while reading anything. If I as a reader I am not attached with something, I will start turning pages and it will end up nowhere but to look for a better option to quench my reading thirst. Author should have read some books to get an idea of how to frame the narration to maintain grip over the reader’s mind. Now I will speak about the Editor. The first page of the book states, Edited by Shreya Chatterjee in bold. It happened for the first time that I saw name of the editor given so much of importance. It is good as editors are not getting their much deserved fame anywhere in the publishing industry. However, when the name is given as a highlight, it should be justified. There are mind boggling editing errors evident. I had to read this book as if I was checking a test paper. Let’s have a look at some of the basic errors – 1. When I started answering, I saw everyone turning back to look at me, as I was standing on the last bench 2. That was the first time I saw her. After several years, it was really difficult for me to find out, which was the first time I saw her? One day when I was feeling peaceful and had a lot of time at hand. I thought about this for the whole day. And after analyzing all my available memories at last I concluded this moment as the one in which I saw her for the first time 3. Hence to avoid confusions, I always adhered to Syed in the school, and I simply went to the places he went. I even went to the toilet only if he went there. This was the first reason why we became friends 4. I liked in playing with him very much, though mostly he hit the ball, and I chased it 5. Fter seeing the movie….. (I believe it was “After” and not “Fter”) 6. I heard something disturbing my sleepit was my father (Have no idea to what “sleepit” is) 7. After that in the every exam, I got an increased progress in my report card 8. Mother in law is going to afford to you 9. I saved it into my pocket 10. We would eat something for our stomach 11. It might because their bank balance came down These are just some examples, editor missed to correct what she was supposed to be in this book. Overall this book needed a lot of work before getting published. I am still wondering who went wrong, the Author, the Editor or the Publisher.

Love @ Internet, the title was not that appealing to me as I thought it will be another Love Story. But it was not the first time I was reading Rajeev’s work. I was the one to review his first novel as well and that’s what made me curious to read his second book.

It started to grip from initial pages itself.

Rohit the main lead of this novel and his balcony love made the plot right to start with and his shyness resembles any youth living in a middle town. The girl leaving him and going away with her parents and Rohit feeling lonely was a kicking flow again.

Story is with packed a pace and if someone is not reading the book with any assumptions will enjoy it thoroughly. Rajeev can write using a simple plot with a difference and that’s what provoked me to read his work. If I look at the plot it is not complicated at all but the way it is presented is very nice.

If I look at the plotting and addressing the narration, it needs some guidance of some good editor as at some places story seemed to be meeting eyes with the reader and all of a sudden the plot is left there unimpressed.

Also some of the editorial errors which a reader might not catch but being a reviewer and editor it impacted and irritated me.

None of the flaws are there because of the Author; I think the publisher is compromising on spending on editorial part to groom the work to an international level.

I wouldn’t rate the cover more than 2.5 on a sale of 1 to 5, after reading the novel I felt there was more to be reflected on the cover page. Cover page is the first thing which a reader will look at before buying a book.

Again a good job by Rajeev Ranjan and will be glad to read more from this author in the coming years.

To Err is Human by Swarupa Chavan

“To err is human”, I wondered why this title is selected and I was curious to read the story.

I took a long time as for some or the other reason the story didn’t grip my attention. Not directly jumping on to saying about not liking the novel, I just wanted to highlight some evident turn offs.

I was happy to put hands on the book which is not written by just another engineering or MBA pass out who just wanted to tell the story of his college days or an unsuccessful love saga.

Cover page attracted the thoughts and is well designed. The quality of print is another winning part for this novel as now people don’t just buy a book; they want to buy quality which they can carry while on move.

Quality of print and pages is also good.

The story and plot is good however the narration needs perfection. The story is about Malini and her exploits while discovering her true self. Author tried to make Malini amusing, witty and full of humor but somehow it didn't create a grip.

Office politics drifts and search for true love – it summarizes it all.

As I say most of the times, editing plays a major role and evident editing errors blocks the reader. Editing needed more attention!

While writing a book, it happens that the author goes with the flow and unintentionally starts to use phrases in regional language. The common thought is that it will create a grip and bonding with the reader. If as a reader I would want to read Marathi, I would go for a Marathi novel, why will I pick up an English read? Also, why do writers want to block their work to a state or a region? Will anyone from any other Indian state enjoy reading the story with so many Marathi phrases and sentences? If the novel is picked up for translation in other languages, how that thing will work out? Being an Indian reader we have grip over different languages of India, what if this book is given to a foreigner, will he be able to understand the book? – With these thoughts if I had to rate the book, I would not give it a superb rating.

Author can do better and we should not forget that a book is not about the way author is presenting and writing, it is also about the support given to him/her in the process of writing and getting published. I have no idea if Swarupa was given these suggestions while the novel went in for the process of getting published.

If this novel is rated a failure, it is not because of the author. It is because of other people who did not do justice with what they did.

With the story and thought flow, I rate Swarupa to be a good thinker and can expect to see more novels from her in the future. With good supporting hands, she can do wonders and with her thoughts she can create some of the biggest best sellers.

The book is light read and Marathi audience will enjoy reading as there is a flavor of their language.

In Course of True Love by Sanjeev Ranjan

Very simple – An easy Read – No twist – A Plain ride !!!

This book can be summarized as an unadorned book, which is written with no complications.The author just wanted to convey a story and it went on with every page of the book.

The story is a love story (as it is predictable with the name as well) which goes smooth. Expressions are well portrayed – like, phone conversations, exhilaration of opposite sex, discussion of kiss etc. Nice effort!

The book is a trouble free read, with no threads getting complicated and everything getting clearer with every page turned. It may be a good entertainment for teenagers or for seasonal readers but for a vivid reader this book gives nothing. There is no twist, there is no suspense, everything is predictable, and language is basic though efforts come evident with some dialogues which are impressive.

Author can do much better with helping hand of an editor.

Portrayal is something which I missed throughout the book. Proper explanation is backbone of any book without which it is difficult to hook the reader.

I would not like to speak about editing errors in this book as there is a load to discuss about. If the author is not getting support from his publisher for proper editing, he should get his work edited professionally before submitting the Manuscript to the publishers. It is very important to give a fine impression to readers as they pay to read the work.

Author showed caliber with his debut novel and we can expect better things from him in coming years.

Overall a simple yet entertaining journey for an occasional reader group.

A Splash of Love - A Kiss of Infatuation by Rajeev Ranjan

Nothing new I felt reading the book! However what I felt was AMAZING!

The narration is good and catches the senses. You feel refreshed and would like to live your college days again. The Author speaks about ‘Infatuation’ and other feelings that everyone goes through at some point or the other. Story connects with the reader.

What I liked was the way the story started, it sounded like a story based on a village background but gradually it moved to a metro and the way transformation and transition happened was smooth. Author did a good job that the reader doesn’t even feel when he reached Delhi from a village.

I felt like revisiting my teenage reading the story.

I have no idea why Authors in India are inquisitive about using “Regional Language” phrases in their books. I take this attempt as writing “Hinglish” and not “English”. I have seen books getting stuck within boundaries of the country because of this small mistake. It breaks the flow and for me it was a big look back for me in the book. Reading Hindi statements written in English is irritating most of the times.

Another editing error observed was evident and was new to me. Every time the Author mentioned any name in the story, names were given special treatment with “Quotes”. It gave a strange look to the narration and as a reader I kept on thinking, why? What? Where? When? – Nothing correlated. “Quotes” with a word in writing signifies something special in the narration and all the names mentioned in the book cannot be special.

The book needed an editor’s eye!

Overall, the story line was catchy though was no indifferent. Author showed his potential and with help of a good editor his work can reach places.

I was glad to put hands on this book. The quality of print and page is something which makes the first impression and it goes all as an 'A Grade' for this book.

Cover design speaks a tale.

This book is a sequel to 'Zero Percentile' by the Author, I did not get a chance to read his first book and was in two minds, will I be able to get a grip with the story line?

With a doubt, I started reading and I was engrossed. The Author successfully managed to keep the story line going through in a way that it does not impact the reader who is unaware of what happened in the first part of the book. At some pages it interrupted with a '*' sign, which is given in the book to the topic relates with the first book, it was awful but it did not interrupt the story line.

The story is about a group of friends, who are dreamy about opening their own software company, going through up's and down's and emotions flows along. One character in the book is fighting with a deadly decease and while reading it reminded me of 'Sumit', one of the main characters in Vikrant Shukla's debut Novel "Call Centre An Inside Story", the emotions and feeling running were expressed well.

I was impressed with the Editing as well, there are editing errors but only a professional can point that. Errors are not evident enough to pinch the reader.

It is good to see sequel series for books coming out in India as well, it will be too early to say if it will catch the mass as the Indian readers are yet not following anyone, they just pick up what they find suitable to their mood, personality and the availability of time. Zero Percentile 2.0 is a good effort and should be appreciated.

Overall, characterization in the book impressed me. It is a good read!

A Good Effort.....

I was curious to read this book after I received it but because of other priorities had to keep it aside for a couple of days. Looking at the book daily and not reading was a tough task to do and I finally got a chance to keep my hands on it.

I started reading and with the chapters moving on, I was so much attached to the story line that I wanted to finish the book as soon as possible. Strange topics discussed in the book about Hitler, Black Magic, A silent love story in the parallel run, sex description on a mild note......a lot of things to keep the reader stick to 135 pages.

If I have to summarize, I liked the book and efforts of the author. It is a nice piece of work however needed some professional hands to make it perfect.

The book looked like a Syllabus Book to me when I saw it for the first time. But content of the book is nowhere behind a thrilling novel.

ISBN number is missing from the book which clearly shows that it will be difficult for the author to reach the correct and potential audience. The book will not be available in many world class stores as they do not keep books without an ISBN number on it. This book had the potential but have no idea to why was it self-published.

There are some major editing errors evident in the book content. The biggest example I would like to highlight here is the date of birth mentioned in the book, which says that Hitler was born on April 20th, 1929. Now this date is something which cannot be true. I know it would have been a typo error but who so ever edited the book, did not do justice to his job. These small errors questions the authenticity of the information shared in the book.

The normal trend is that book is released as "Fiction" or "Non Fiction" but this book does not give any idea of the category of the book.

I would not like to highlight any other editing errors as there are a lot and it is not to do with the author. It is all about flaws left by the editor of the book. The author has done a remarkable job and the book is a worth read. Reading about Hitler, some of the secrets about him, about his inclination towards black magic, a couple meeting after seven thousand years, having a discussion over an ice covered mountain are just enough to take reader to a different journey all together.
