The petite host of the show Live! recently remarked that she looks like Peter Pan when she is working out. She was chatting with the show’s recent guest co-host, Bryant Gumbel when she made that joke about herself. Gumbel had remarked that the TV star might cause a lot of envy during her group work-outs because of her figure, but she replied in the negative and told him she look like a Peter Pan in her work-outs instead.

“I prefer a group mentality,” she said. “I think there’s power in a group, I think the group motivates everybody.

“I think everybody really pulls together, and there’s something sexy about the sound and look of a unified group of people working out.”“I think they’re aware of your presence and you’re wrong that the guys ain’t checking you out,” Gumbel said.

How did this Peter Pan issue come about? Her guest co-host Bryan Gumbel said that some of the people she works out with probably envy her figure. Kelly laughed and said they don’t because she looks like Peter Pan when she’s in the gym.

It looks like studying the ‘Star Wars’ character Darth Vader could help researchers study personality disorders in adults and help determine what causes mental illness.

In the movie, young Darth Vader or Anakin Skywalker was seperated from his mother at an early age. This coupled with the fact that his father was absent led to a severe personality disorder or “dysfunctional experiences of self” that is found in many of today’s youth lacking a strong parental presence.

Following a long tradition of providing vaguely pointless diagnosis to fictional characters, a group of French psychologists have determined that Anakin Skywalker may have suffered from Borderline Personality Disorder – which is, according to the DSM, “a pervasive pattern of instability of interpersonal relationships, self-image and affects, as well as marked impulsivity, beginning by early adulthood.” The disorder has to fit five of nine specified contexts, like “frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment,” “identity disturbance,” and “inappropriate anger.” Anakin hits six out of nine. According to LiveScience, the psychologists’ memo on the diagnosis is appearing as a letter to the editor in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Psychiatry Research.
"I had watched the two prequel movies ["Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith"], and it was during my residency in psychiatry while trying to explain borderline personality disorder to medical students that I thought of Anakin," said Eric Bui, a psychiatrist at Toulouse University Hospital in France.

Is there anything Morgan Freeman can’t do? He’s a great actor, producer, and can narrate the hell out of a documentary, so what’s next for the Oscar winner? According to the AP he’s headed to space! Freeman’s been out promoting a new television series that will air on the Science Channel about space exploration. He will host and narrate the show (no surprise there) and produce it through his production company.

The series is called “Through the Wormhole” and it’s a passion project for Freeman who’s always had a fascination with astronomy and what lies beyond the stars. His partnership with the Science Channel allows him to delve into one of his favorite subjects while giving the network a much needed PR boost. They’ve been campaigning to get celebrities to come on board to take part in original programing and documentaries to heighten its exposure.
Scientists are tapped to address issues like what happened before the creation of the universe, what dark matter is doing to the galaxies, whether time travel will someday be possible, what intelligent life might exist beyond Earth and how life began on Earth.

The idea of a God that created the universe is hard for many scientists to deal with, but one that some turn to when not everything they see is explained by the complex mathematical equations used to prove theories.

"It is hard for me to get my mind wrapped around the idea that there is an extra, corporal-shall we say, intelligence-that controls everything," Freeman said.

Freeman is intrigued by the speed of light and how and why light travels. The idea of time travel is another interest, although the actor isn't sure whether he'd like to go backward or forward.

Similarly, he'd love to travel in space someday. But he doesn't want to just go for a ride.

"I'd like to have a destination," he said, "and I'd like that destination being a foreign land where there are things we could possibly communicate with. Just wandering around out there-you might as well be out in the ocean trying to swim."

Latst news "St. Louis loves you Bret!" screamed one fan Saturday night. The crowd was on their feet as rocker Bret Michaels took the stage at Rib America. Wearing jeans, a cut off t-shirt and his signature cowboy hat, Michaels ran to the microphone at Soldier's Memorial.

"I can't tell you how good it feels to be back," said the Poison frontman. He launched right into the hit "Talk Dirty To Me," all the while encouraging the willing crowd to sing along.

"Tonight we're here to celebrate," Michaels said after wrapping up his opening number. The rocker has a lot to celebrate.

The Celebrity Apprentice winner is just a week out of his big reality TV show win. He overcame a bevy of recent health problems to hit the tour circuit. Michaels has undergone a recent emergency appendectomy, brain hemorrhage, warning stroke. He's also been public with his life-long struggle with diabetes.

Michaels told the crowd to expect more TV appearances. His new VH1 reality TV show, "Life As I Know It" debuts on May 31st. VH1 says the show gives viewers "an insider's look at Bret's home life when he isn't touring, shooting, partying and rocking out."

Michaels is no stranger to reality TV. In addition to the Celebrity Apprentice appearance, Michaels also starred in three Rock of Love dating shows. The theme song for that show was third on his set list for the Rib America crowd Saturday night.

Supporters are gathering at La Pita in Dearborn for a party to celebrate Fakih’s win.

The contestants took the stage tonight at Las Vegas' Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino to compete for the crown and the opportunity for a place in the Miss Universe pageant.

A panel of eight judges, including NBA star Carmelo Anthony and Treasure Island casino-hotel owner Phil Ruffin, were judging the girls throughout the night.

After 15 contestants strutted in swimsuits, five were eliminated. Another five were eliminated after the evening gown competition.

Miss Nebraska USA Belinda Renee Wright won the Miss Congeniality award, roughly one week after her father was killed in a farm accident. Miss Alabama USA Audrey Moore won Miss Photogenic after an online fan vote.

The pageant aired live to East Coast viewers on NBC. The network owns the pageant in a joint venture with Donald Trump.

The competition, which is not affiliated with the Miss America pageant, was hosted by celebrity chef Curtis Stone and NBC correspondent Natalie Morales.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta is CNN's chief medical correspondent says a subarachnoid hemorrhage is an aneurysm in one of the blood vessels. He stated about 10 percent of people don't survive. He obviously survived that. About another quarter of people don't make it through the first couple of days in the hospital and 30 percent make a full recovery.
Michaels, who is 47 years old, suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage stroke last week. The stroke causes bleeding in the fluid-filled spaces around the base of the brain and could have proven fatal. Reps for the rocker say that the unnamed hospital where he is staying plan additional tests to determine the cause of the rupture.

The statement from his website also says: "Michaels has undergone a continuous series of tests while in the ICU including angiograms, CT scans, MRIs and transcranial dopplers (TCD's). Doctors state Michaels is very lucky as his condition could have been fatal. ... Doctors remain hopeful for a full recovery and plan to release more specific information next Monday."

Those were some tough singers to follow, and on Tuesday's American Idol performance show, it seemed that the judges felt Siobhan didn't really measure up to their standard. The song really started out beautifully, but it appeared that she didn't choose a direction as the song got to its mid-way point, and the judges of course took the opportunity to jump all over that indecisiveness. What type of artist is Siobhan Magnus trying to be? We didn't learn that on Tuesday, but some of her fans may have enjoyed the performance below. She definitely has some stiff competition from other artists to compete with for fan votes tonight.
Randy Jackson said, “You’ve probably picked arguably the toughest song of the night. It was just okay for me.”

Ellen DeGeneres said, “I disagree. That’s just more confirmation of why you’re here.”
Kara DioGuardi said, “Technically it was well sung, but it was like a musical, very dramatic. I still don’t know who you are.”
Simon Cowell said, “I agree with Randy. I don’t think that was the right song for you. It was very old fashioned.”

In response, Siobhan Magnus noted her gratitude in being able to sing the song, saying, “Regardless of being compared to Mariah or Whitney. I just love the song.”

Crystal Bowersox outclasses the competition on inspiration night :'American Idol' top 7

What happened to Crystal Bowersox's hair? It appears to still be standing on end from her recent parking lot exchange with Ryan Seacrest (long story short, she reportedly almost quit the show before the "American Idol" host stopped her).

Alicia Keys was the guest mentor for Tuesday's inspiration night on "Idol," because not only does she sing but she cares about people with HIV AIDS. Luckily, she's a better singer than she is a mentor.
Pretty brutal “American Idol” tonight (as I always assume it will be with this theme and its inherent Mariah-ness), with one exception (hint: look up at the picture). If I hadn’t skipped the last two weeks because of my time off, I’d be tempted to just do a “Crystal rules, others drool” post, but may as well review contestant by contestant, just as soon as I tell you that I like Spider-Man.

But who needs a mentor when your name is Mamasox? Crystal Bowersox was, as per usual, effortlessly brilliant during her soulful rendition of "People Get Ready." Surprisingly, she choked up at the end of her performance while singing, "you don't need a ticket, you just need to thank the lord." She probably cried because she dodged a bullet by not being kicked off the show for the whole quitting debacle.

Kara said she thought "they" called her Mamasox because she schooled all the other contestants. Simon was happy to see her emotional and says she was in a completely different class to the other contestants.

Soxy said she cried because her dad's in the audience - a likely story.

A distant second to Mamasox was Lee DeWyze, who was virtually swallowed up by the Coke advertisements behind him as Ryan conducted his interview. Coca Cola must have given the "Idol" folks a huge donation.

DeWyze injected some contemporary rasp into Simon & Garfunkel's folsky "The Boxer." Randy proceeded to explain the low standard of contestants by saying the show's "about artists this year." Simon said, "Even though we're only two in, that's the best of the night." He was kind of right.

Casey James did a repeat performance of every other night. He sang Fleetwood Mac's "Don't Stop" but lost points from the start by tying his hair back. His voice was solid, as usual, but, as Randy said, he does the same thing every week, dawg.

Tim Urban sang a version of the Goo Goo Dolls' "Better Days" that came out as flat as his hair. In the winning non sequitur of the night, Ellen said she didn't like "the soup of the day." But one audience member - "Tim you rock!" - suggested he may be back next week.

Aaron Kelly appeared to have some engine trouble as he performed R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly," which he said had always been his go-to song. Simon said he would have turned off the radio if he had heard that rendition, but that Aaron's personality made it bearable. That's debatable.

Siobhan Magnus started her performance of "When You Believe" by staring the audience down. She appeared to be crazy-eyeing the viewers into voting for her. Unfortunately, she lost control of her voice in the process, just about as much as she lost control of the fact that the butterflies snaking around her right arm look like dead leaves. Her rendition of Mariah Carey was all over the place and overly loud. She's a great candidate for "Glee."

Michael Lynche sang Chad Kroeger Michael's "Hero" with some impressive vocal timber. Along with the rest of the contestants, he seemed to think that yelling at the end of his performance gave him more creedence. It didn't. Kara DioGuardi didn't think he sang well and Simon Cowell didn't like the song because it was from "Superman."

Oh, and in case anyone didn't get the hint, "Idol Gives Back" is on Wednesday.

The song, Time for Africa, is expected to be released to radio stations from next week and will be available for download from 26 April. Shakira and Freshlyground will perform the song at the pre-tournament Kick-Off concert in Soweto on 10 June. In 1998, The Spice Girls sang (How Does It Feel To Be) On Top Of The World, written by Echo and the Bunnymen front-man Ian McCulloch. Spice Girls? Shakira is in great musical company!

Hot celebrity Alyssa Milano is 'Romantically Challenged'

There's nothing much more useless on TV than a conventional sitcom that's comedically challenged.

Really, if it can't make you laugh, what does a show like ABC's post-Dancing toss-off Romantically Challenged possibly have to offer? It's not telling us anything new about the human condition, or anything new about anything at all. It's not introducing us to any unfamiliar corner of our world — unless you consider a forgettably bland Hollywood studio set pretending to be Pittsburgh an unfamiliar corner.
The series premiere of "Romantically Challenged," a new comedy on ABC, launches tonight starring Alyssa Milano as Rebecca Thomas, a recent divorcee suddenly thrust back into the dating world. Let me be the first to say "Welcome back to major league TV, Alyssa," and to congratulate you on moving on from that whole "Charmed" debacle. I like that this show is slotted between ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" and "Castle." I don't, however, like that it's being pitted against CBS's "The Big Bang Theory" and the last half hour of "24" on FOX. Milano and company will have their work cut out for them. Hopefully, "Romantically Challenged" won't be "ratings challenged.
Milano stars as Rebecca, a recent Pittsburgh divorcée trying to get back into the dating scene. She is prodded on — loudly, and without a shred of wit — by her baby sister Lisa (Kelly Stables), who is supposed to be humorous because she's sexually voracious.

Frequently joining them at their coffee shop hangout (a Friends-like set that only serves to make the show feel even older and more tired) is Perry, a puppy-dog romantic played by Worst Week's Kyle Bornheimer. He rooms with a playboy would-be writer played by Josh Lawson, who probably gets the show's worst lines, though it's a very close competition.

Problems arise, but don't pay any attention to them, because the show certainly doesn't. Instead, they're resolved with those kind of sitcom solutions that are so pat and lazy, they can't even qualify as an insult to our intelligence, as the writers clearly don't think we have any intelligence to insult.

Still, as terrible as Romantically is, it is in the end more puzzling than insulting. Why would any studio or network waste a star like Milano on a show that would seem to have virtually no chance of survival? Why hire a rising talent like Bornheimer — a sparkling young comic actor who proved in CBS' Worst Week that he was more than capable of carrying a sitcom — and stick him in some washed-out supporting role? We've seen what Bornheimer can do with even marginally decent material; was the goal to show us what he can do without it?

That's a challenge, all right. It's just not one worth watching

Horror film 'Clash of the Titans' opens big; Tyler Perry still has it; and DreamWorks' 'Dragon' shows some fire

It wasn't so much a clash as it was a rout.

Warner Bros. 3-D "Clash of the Titans" stormed to the top of the box office, taking in an estimated $61.4 million this weekend. The movie, which cost about $122 million and was co-produced and co-financed by Legendary Pictures, easily dominated its box-office competition. About 52% of the movie's box office came from 3-D ticket sales.

"If there was a battle out there, victory is ours," declared Dan Fellman, Warner Bros.' president of domestic distribution.

Projections for "Clash of the Titans" were that it would have a weekend take of between $60 million and $70 million. While it certainly met those numbers, it also dropped nearly 20% from Friday's box office of almost $26.4 million to Saturday's $21.6 million. The CinemaScore for the movie was a B, so the word of mouth on the movie was generally good. Perhaps competition from the NCAA Final Four basketball games or all those geeks standing in line to buy iPads played a part in the drop between Friday and Saturday.

Fellman said the studio was actually anticipating a bigger Saturday drop -- in the neighborhood of 25%. "The audience reaction has been terrific."

The $61.4-million opening is the biggest ever for Easter Weekend, easily beating "Scary Movie 4," which took in $40.2 million in 2006. Of course, any comparison has to take into consideration inflation and the more expensive 3-D tickets.

"Clash of the Titans" actually started screening on Thursday and took in about $2.6 million. Internationally, "Clash of the Titans" took in $44.2 million, 55% of which was generated by 3-D ticket sales.

MARRIEDTOO Coming in second this weekend was Tyler Perry's "Why Did I Get Married Too," from Lionsgate, which took in $30.1 million. For Perry, it is his biggest opening for one of his movies that didn't feature his Madea character. The movie beat projections and outperformed the first "Why Did I Get Married" by almost $10 million.

"I always underestimate his box office," cracked Dan Spitz, executive vice president of distribution for Lionsgate. Perry's movie played strongest to his core audience of African American women over the age of 25. Just imagine the box office if he ever does a movie in 3-D.

All the concern about the opening number for DreamWorks Animation's "How to Train Your Dragon" being soft may have been for naught. The 3-D movie took in $29.2 million in its second weekend, a drop of only 33% from its first weekend of $43.7 million and good enough for third place. That the drop is under 40% is a very good sign that the movie may have some legs.

"We knew that really strong reviews and word of mouth would propel the movie," said Anne Globe, head of worldwide marketing for DreamWorks Animation. Even more impressive was that the box office actually went up 1% from Friday to Saturday. Abroad, the movie took in $38.5 million; it has made almost $100 million overseas.

Miley Cyrus' romantic movie "The Last Song" took in $16.2 million for the weekend; its five-day take is $25.6 million.

"Miley competed in the land of giants and did well," said Chuck Viane, president of distribution for Walt Disney Studios.

Rounding out the top five was Disney's "Alice in Wonderland." Despite playing in fewer 3-D screens this weekend, the movie still took in $8.3 million, and Viane projects it will top $325 million in domestic box office.

Helping out a big family apparently got actress Jessica Alba thinking about expanding her own.

The "Fantastic Four" star said she would like to adopt children on Sunday's episode of ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," E! News reports. On the show, Alba helps out a Texas foster family of 15.

"If you have the love and the capacity to love children, you should just adopt. And I plan on doing it," said Alba, who has a daughter, Honor Marie, with husband Cash Warren.

A moving van has sparked speculation that Sandra Bullock has dumped Jesse James over his alleged cheating.

The Oscar-winning actress had moved out of the house she shared with Monster Garage star James in Sunset Beach, California, as the scandal broke.

As it was claimed he had affairs with five different women, Bullock retreated to her Hollywood Hills home.

Now a moving van has been spotted outside the Sunset Beach home the couple shared.

The van pulled up outside the house at around 6.45pm on Friday and stayed for about an hour.

Two movers carried out a couch, a love seat and tons of boxes before an unnamed man and a woman arrived in a car.

The movers then took something out of the van and put it into the car.

Then on Saturday James' mother Carol was spotted with his daughter Sunny at the home.

They were both seen carrying boxes out of the house and packing them into Carol's car.
And on the day the TV mechanic's lawyer told the Associated Press that James was a "broken man" who was desperate to save his ailing marriage, it seems Bullock is making her walk-out official.

TMZ.com reports that a removal van arrived at Bullock's home on Friday afternoon, and stayed for an hour while workers packed up a couch, a love seat, and a large amount of boxes.

James is currently in a rehab center in Arizona receiving treatment. It has not been confirmed what he is being treated for, but reports speculate he is getting counseling for sex addiction.

Jerusalem - Hundreds of Christian pilgrims flocked to Jerusalem Sunday, to mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ, as recounted in the New Testament.

Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Fauod Twal, the highest-ranking Roman Catholic prelate in the Holy Land, was slated to give his Easter Sunday homily in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which, according to tradition, is built on the site where Jesus was crucified and then resurrected.
While Catholics were to celebrate mass inside the Church, Protestants were set to hold a separate service on the nearby Mount of Olives.

Jews meanwhile, were continuing to celebrate Passover, the final day of which is marked in Israel on Monday.

During the eight-day-long Passover festival, Israel slapped a closure on the West Bank, for security reasons, but preventing many Palestinian Christians from journeying to Jerusalem for Holy Week.

Hindus concerned about Julia Roberts’ “Eat, Pray, Love”

Release date for Oscar winner Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman) starrer “Eat, Pray, Love” has been announced, its trailer is out, but now Hindus are concerned about the authenticity of the depiction of Hinduism objects-rituals-beliefs-concepts-traditions-philosophy in it.

Directed by Emmy nominated Ryan Murphy (Nip/Tuck), its India part was shot in/around Pataudi, about 60 kilometers from India’s capital Delhi. Starting with USA release on August 13, it will be released in India on August 27 by Sony Pictures. It is yet to be rated.

Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that Hinduism and its belief system were quite often incorrectly depicted outside India and he hoped that filmmakers in this case would stick to authentic traditions in order to avoid misrepresenting the already misunderstood religion, which was oldest and third largest in the world. Film, being a powerful medium, misrepresentation would not be fair to Hindus and Hinduism.

Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, further said that Hindus welcomed Hollywood to explore the spirituality and rich philosophical thought of Hinduism but taking it seriously and depicting it authentically. Refashioning it for mercantile greed or to fit the Hollywood machine created more confusion and hurt the Hindu sentiments.

Rajan Zed pointed out that if the filmmaker needed any help concerning depiction of Hinduism or related issues, he or other Hindu scholars would be glad to assist.

Based on Pushcart Prize winner Elizabeth Gilbert’s spirituality/travel memoir (played by Roberts), “Eat, Pray, Love” is about her self-discovery and soul-searching after her nasty divorce, exploring through India, Italy, and Indonesia. Gilbert goes to India to learn the “art of devotion”. A critic has defined it as “the worst in Western fetishization of Eastern thought and culture”.

Meanwhile Bhavna Shinde of Forum for Hindu Awakening has said that filmmakers still have time before the August release to make a final visit to the movie and edit it accordingly so that authenticity of Hinduism is not compromised, and thus honoring the feelings of billion Hindus.

People of India will be anxious to see how perfectly Roberts does her job of cleaning ashram (hermitage) floors as a part of her devotional duty, trying to recite 182-verse Sanskrit chant, and going through grueling hours of meditation while being feasted on by mosquitoes. Gilbert reportedly spent four months in an India ashram few years back, trying to find her spirituality.

Besides Roberts, other cast of this drama film includes Golden Globe winner James Franco (Pineapple Express), Oscar winner Javier Bardem (Before Night Falls), MTV nominated Billy Crudup (Almost Famous), Oscar nominated Richard Jenkins (The Visitor), and Oscar nominated Viola Davis (Doubt). Dede Gardner (A Mighty Heart) is the producer, while Oscar nominated Brad Pitt (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) is the executive producer.

Kimora Lee Simmons isn't making any friends on the Jersey Shore. The star of Style Network's reality show Kimora: Life In The Fast Lane is bashing the hugely popular MTV reality show.

The 34 year old Simmons tells E! News she'd never stoop to the level of watching Jersey Shore. The mother of three says, “I have a house in Jersey, I don’t need to know what the kids are doing on the shore. I can only imagine. I’ve seen the hair — no thank you!” Apparently some of the "kids" she's referring to are 28 year old DJ Pauly D and 27 year old Mike "The Situation" - both barely six years her junior.

Thousands ready for St Patrick's Day celebrations

n Belfast, a carnival starting at 1200 GMT will be followed by a concert at Custom House Square, headlined by teenage grime rapper Chipmunk.

In Londonderry, events include Irish music and dancing at Victoria Market, as well as a carnival parade.

The biggest event will be in Dublin, where up to 500,000 people will witness the annual parade spectacular.

It will be led by former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Packie Bonner.

St Patrick's Day will also be marked around the world by people with Irish heritage, as well as those who want to get into the spirit of the day.

Among those marking the day is US President Barack Obama, who will meet First and Deputy First Ministers Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness at a White House reception.

Plans are in place in the Holyland area of south Belfast to ensure the day passes off peacefully, with police monitoring the area by CCTV.

Last year, riot police were called to the area after house parties spilled out onto the streets.

St Patrick's Day is held on 17 March, which is believed to be the day he died.

Patrick was captured by Irish raiders from his home in Wales and reputedly herded sheep on the slopes of Slemish in County Antrim during his captivity.

He managed to make his way home after six years, but later returned to Ireland with a mission to convert the Irish to Christianity.

Legend has it that he used the shamrock to teach the concept of the Holy Trinity and banished snakes from the island.

It is unlikely there ever were any snakes in Ireland, but the snake story may be a reference to serpent, a symbol of evil, and the driving out a reference to Patrick's mission to rid Ireland of pagan influence.

Actress/singer Jessica Simpson, who is host of the new VH1 reality show 'The Price Of Beauty', recently got a reality shock, finding out about colorism halfway around the world. In the show's first episode, Jessica Simpson visited Thailand where the ideas of beauty range from women to extremely long necks to extremely 'fair skin' (read white). Here's a quick synopsis of the scene:

"Viewers learned on Jessica Simpson's The Price of Beauty that in Thailand, unlike America, it's considered "lower class" to be tanned because it means that one is outside working in the sun, so many Thai women try to look whiter. The television show cast got to meet one woman who used some skin products, which not only whitened her skin, but burned it, too, which led to her husband leaving her since she didn't look physically attractive. Tears came rolling out the cast's eyes during this short vignette after hearing the woman's story."

The idea that lighter skin is more attractive isn't just limited to Thailand, people in China, India, Africa and all over Latin America echo the same sentiment. In fact, skin lightening cream is one of the most popular cosmetic items throughout the world - in particular the third world. Jessica Simpson's trip into Thailand should have exposed the effect that European people have had all over the world, although that may be a bit heavy for someone who thought tuna was 'chicken of the sea. Hopefully on this show, Jessica Simpson will at least learn that the problems of the world are more than just skin deep.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inducts New Members

Slouched against the lectern at the 25th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, a shirtless Iggy Pop snarled, “I am the world’s forgotten boy.”
No more. After years of being named finalists to enter the hall of fame, then getting outvoted, the Stooges were finally inducted this year, in an event held at the Waldorf-Astoria on Monday night and telecast on the Fuse cable channel. “After the seventh time” the Stooges were nominated, said the band’s guitarist, James Williamson, in his acceptance speech, “we were beginning to think we would have to take pride in not getting in.”

Behind him, Mr. Pop, 62, was already unbuttoning his white dress shirt, getting ready to jump, drop to his knees, strut and twist across the stage and down into the black-tie audience. Introducing him, Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day had described him as “the most confrontational singer we will ever see.” In his acceptance speech, Mr. Pop declared: “Roll over, Woodstock. We won.”

For the Hall of Fame, this was a year of belated admissions. Along with the Stooges, the hall’s latest performing members are the Swedish pop group ABBA, the reggae songwriter Jimmy Cliff and two English bands, Genesis and the Hollies. All but ABBA, which coalesced in the early 1970s, have careers dating back to the 1960s.

Songwriters who supplied girl groups, R&B groups and Elvis Presley in the 1950s and 1960s, working in cubicles in the Brill Building and nearby 1650 Broadway, were also inducted: Jesse Stone, Mort Shuman, Otis Blackwell and the teams of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil and Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry.
Phish performed Genesis’ songs, while the Hollies’ vocal harmonies in their British Invasion hits “Bus Stop” and “Carrie Anne” were filled out by two members of Maroon 5, Adam Levine and Jesse Carmichael. Mr. Levine hit the high notes for “Carrie Anne,” while Pat Monahan, from the band Train, took over lead vocals for “Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress.”

Graham Nash, who is already a Hall of Fame member with Crosby, Stills and Nash, chided the Hollies for having big hits after he left.

Only half of ABBA was on hand for its award, the first for a Scandinavian band: Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Benny Andersson, who named Swedish folk music, German schmaltz and John Philip Sousa among the group’s influences. Faith Hill belted out ABBA’s “The Winner Takes It All,” with Mr. Andersson leading the backup band on piano.

Mr. Cliff, whose songs and acting in the movie “The Harder They Come” helped spread reggae far beyond Jamaica, is only the second reggae musician to join the hall, following Bob Marley. “This was a new music form,” Mr. Cliff said, “with a new culture.” He was inducted by Wyclef Jean, the Haitian rapper, singer and songwriter from the Fugees. “When we saw Jimmy Cliff we saw ourselves,” Mr. Jean said.

Mr. Cliff listed rockers as his inspirations, and said joining the hall was “another stepping stone to higher heights.” His voice was clear and buoyant as he sang “You Can Get It If You Really Want,” “Many Rivers to Cross” and, with Mr. Jean, “The Harder They Come.”

Anxieties about the shrinking music business were a persistent undercurrent in the speeches. Steven Van Zandt of the E Street Band, digressing on his way to introducing the Hollies, half-joked that the business was “artistically, financially and spiritually bankrupt.”

Mr. Pop warned: “It’s a big industry. If they make the right decisions it will stay a big industry.”

David Geffen, who founded Asylum, Geffen and Dreamworks Records, joined the hall’s roster of music business executives, claiming he had never dreamed of being honored. “I have no talent,” he said with a smile.

Kara's dad plans New York Senate run:Joe DioGuardi, the former Republican congressman from New York who happens to be the father of a certain "American Idol" judge, is planning to run for New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand's seat in the forthcoming election, entering what may soon become a crowded race. DioGuardi, a certified public accountant from Ossining, N.Y., who is known as a fiscal conservative, is slated to officially announce his run on Tuesday at New York's Grand Central Station, the Associated Press reports. Asked about her father's political aspirations, Kara told the New York Post, "He's my father, and of course I'm supportive of him. He always encouraged me in my dreams. We don't always agree on every issue. But no matter what our differences are, I love him. He has more energy than anyone I know. When he is working, he is Superman."

Kara's house is up for sale:Kara DioGuardi has put her Spanish-style Hollywood Hills home on the market for $1,649,000, and though it sounds surprisingly modest (perhaps marginally bigger than fellow judge Simon Cowell's townhome-sized on-set trailer), it has a backyard patio that looks as lush as Siobhan Magnus' rendition of "Wicked Game." That is to say, very lush. "The gated house, built in 1964, has city and canyon views, wood-beamed ceilings, an open floor plan, extensive decks and a spa. Three bedrooms and 3 1/2 bathrooms sit in 3,400 square feet," writes Lauren Beale in The Times' Home section, noting that DioGuardi "added an outdoor cedar sauna to give the secluded property a spa-like feel. The guest unit has its own entrance, living room, kitchen and bathroom." DioGuardi, 39, married last year and has reportedly been talking about having children.

Kara calls her bikini flash a "defining moment":Whatever anyone else thinks about DioGuardi's decision to rip open her dress and reveal her bikini-clad body following a duet on the "Idol" finale last season, she considers it a "defining moment," apparently in a good way. "It probably saved my job," DioGuardi tells Idol Tracker's own Shirley Halperin in an interview running in the April issue of Women's Health magazine, out Tuesday and excerpted in People. "It was a defining moment. Like, 'She's serious and industry, but also as kooky as everyone else on this panel.'" Which is not to say she approached the stunt with a sense of certainty. "I kept saying no," she adds. "I mean, what crazy nut is gonna go out there in a bikini at almost 40 years of age against a girl who is 20 and probably cosmetically enhanced? I looked a little pasty. Celebrity Jennifer Aniston legs it out at the 'Bounty Hunter' U.K. premiere
