i waited for you to love me again, the play-write windows left open to the thin sun and lonely gale, typing away in sleepwalk slow traces while the seconds betray their passing from the clocks that haven't been wound, and i had a moment to remember your face before the words sang out from the speakers for the hundredth time today...

...when you hold what you love the most, and all that i have is this moments' ghost but i have to hold that close...

she runs her hand through the failing silver tinsel, across the milky window panes holding against the wind,turns twice to the synths from the speakers, saying only that she loves this song, and start to dance...

...like slow motion leaving me, she starts to sway nearer and nearer, white dress too thin for the season, defeated balloons parting like oceans beneath her feet, she looks like an angel, so beautiful in repose...

...i miss the way she sighed herself to sleep...

...she woke that morning with purpose, straightened her bedsheet and made her way to the shower, rinsing her hair and washing the sleep from her long eyelashes. her hand cleared the condensation around her faces' reflection, her almond eyes staring back from the misted impression as she powdered her face and applied the cherry blossom rouge to her cheekbones, taking care to use a light touch. she perfumed her neck and collarbone and tied her hair back in a loose knot, tying the loose strands in place with a silk cord as she took the dress down from the door where it had hung the night before. sandals in place, she took the many tiered metal box from the table beside the door, reassured by the authoritative clasp of the deadbolt. through the streets she made her way slowly, head down, focusing on the next step in front of her, seeing the spring-time petals in the rain-choked streets. turning towards the square she could see the lanterns floating in the river and a faint smile crept to the corners of her lips. she followed the river, bowing low beneath the the willow branches, smoothing the gathered flowers into the separate sections of the box with her right hand as the path wound upward and as she finished her work she smelled the salt air and saw the first candles flow into the sea. she knelt to her knees and set the metal box at the edge of the cliff. after a time, she rose and walked back down the path to the square and its celebrations, never once looking back...
