Twin pot for rear brake upgrade

To me this is easier upgrade and cheap as many people more likely to have brembo for rear brake

what i need is just fabricating mild steel plate for the caliper bracket and welded in trailing arm.

certain places require machining process for proper attachment.

Now i can fit in double ventilated disc on rear arms and also i had a endless brake pad 500 degree

before anybody follow this mod please think about your hand brake.

The tar or insulator or some people call it sound proof has been removed using dry ice which much easier work to do. i just let it for a few minute until the tar become brittle and easy to break with hammer.

Knock Detector from knock tek

My post today is regarding knock tek detector. it functions to provide indication and also can be used to send signal for ECU to alter ignition map when knock is detected. but this item should not be used to tune ur ignition timing on the road especially because it may register knock up to 6000 rpm only. so it is better to tune ignition on load bearing dyno machine to see any small changes on engine torque in order to tune ur timing.

i mounted it on roll cage temporarily used to provide me any indication of knock during track racing. if it registers any knock then i just have to slow down the car.

it also can be hook up with shift light to perform as knock indication.

Proper way to install adjustable rear camber or toe

After torn or damage of 'tulang anjing' i change to adjustable toe, and this will reduce the stress on the strut by removing the stock chambered bolt. How ever during installation i see that it requires to do some modification. Lets take a look at the picture below it got a hole in oval shape, this will move the bolt position when the car under stress or vibration and u might loose suspension rigidity.

What I did? I took the used washer from cambered bolt and drill a hole to suit standard bolt that u r going to use.

below is the end after using the drilled washer, and tighten it up.this will hold the strut more firm to the chassis.

Securing intercooler piping

Had you ever experience blow out or loose of intercooler piping? here one of the idea on how to secure the piping during high boost. i used a lock wire for the attachment.

something to note is that these are not really a good clamp the piping as they are not provide uniform pressure at all area, so care must be taken to ensure leak at high boost.

at one time I had the turbo flange bolt came loose. then i used lock wire to prevent them from rotating to open direction.

suspension system inverted monotube

Today i'm gonna share my suspension or adjustable absorber use for my incoming track racing. I choose inverted monotube with adjustable body shift. This suspension is not used by pro but suit for my own use. monotube is the large shining portion which provide stable movement and heavy duty to the system. it is also equipped body shift use to adjust the vehicle height.

i used 10kg spring rate for the front and rear. i wish to go more than this but 10kg is most suitable as it caused less spinning or grip during corner exit.i had tried the 12 and 14kg, which is good for cornering but when comes to acceleration it is the worst traction ever.

together with copy of greedy pillow ball for camber adjustment.

DNA Damper kg/mm is and old brand of suspension with body shift, coz i only had a few info about it from the internet.

valve float symptom

What is valve float? u can ask mr. google.
Briefly   it can lead your engine to miss fire normally happen caused of numbers of reason examples:
    increasing rev limit, changing to bigger or faster spool turbo, inadequate valve spring press, higher cam shaft lift and a lot more.
how to identify the valve float?
    I not the expert of identifying the symptom but i just share on what happen to me.
          -on dyno graph (blue line) u will see the oscillation line indicate miss fire. when this is happen mostly people will start to look at the ignition problems by changing and testing the spark plug, plug gapping, coil, leads, wiring, and exciter box ect.. the thing that i notice was what ever you change or test the oscillation line/ missfire will occur at the same rmp. in my case @ 5300. the power from here suppose to be increasing but it couldn't.
           - after testing ignition components then go for testing stock camshaft together with stock valve spring. Most of the cases on 4G93 the valve still float but only after 2 or 3 dyno run. in another word, the valve float symptom happen during 'hot' engine temp (hot means normal operating temperature).
           - Another one more to confirm the valve float is, when removing head gasket. If you have correct tools you can change the spring without removing head gasket, but i you do remove then inspect the combustion area. there is a possibility of having a 'carbon wash out' near the valve to cylinder wall area. carbon wash out is a clean surface that wiping out some black carbon in combustion area. base on Mr. google it should happen on intake valve but in my case it happen on the exhaust valve area, it shows that the valves were running hotter.

On 4g93,How to over come this problem?
there are few option examples like changing valve spring to higher rated, adding some shim underneath, using beehive spring, dual valve spring ect.. it is difficult to find for 4g93 dual spring and beehive because of different size of valve stem lock, evo stem and 4g93 stem/retainer are not the same even though the springs can be interchangeable. if you want to do so then look for 'COMP cams' as it provide stem dimension that suite your engine.
Below is the valve spring comparison between 4g93t stock, JUN 4g93, BC evo, stock 4g67

surprisingly I have to change my JUN valve spring. it is because of inadequate spring pressure base on JUN website take alook at evo spring press.

evo spring press = 26mmkg = 53lb@ set load

4g93spring press = not mentioned,but according at 4g93 manual, stock= 58lb@set load

so stock 4g93 spring is stiffer than evo JUN spring? how about JUN 4g93 spring?

from above picture we can see that stock 4g93 has more coil than JUN 4g93. but both have similar spring rate pressure.

Stock 4g93 vs BC evo. why i choose BC evo spring?
coz of difficulty in finding tomei 4g93 spring alone and expensive i choose BC coz of price and srping pressure stiffer than other brand. Also the dimension is just a bit bigger by 0.5 mm still can suite stock retainer. base on rough calculation BC evo on 4g93 set load can be around 94- 104 lb load. equivalent to dual valve spring pressure .

0.006 inches is the limit for checking coil bind to prevent any binding that can cause serious engine damage. but after checking the BC clearance i got way2 more space.

RACE PEDAL BOX

it a pedal normally used by most rally's cars. By using this i can remove the original servo,it will be routed via a steel braided line with 3.2mm.with this also the 2 master pump will be operated by single pedal. one pump for the front brake and one for the rear.

the throttle lever had been mod to suite my cable

diff in size of master pump. i use 0.75 for clutch and rear brake

i use Garling master pump got it from UK, size 0.625 for front brake. why? coz a pascal law..

bias bar for adjustment front and rear brake, and i u look closely on left bias bar there is an electrical connector, that is for brake switch for rear brake light.

3 reservoir for clutch and brake.

3.2mm steel braided teflon hose.

original hand brake had removed. and using drift style lever.

another picture of floor mounted race pedal box after installation and lines routing. another benefit is that i had to move the driver seat further back which can manipulate the C of G during weight transfer or into cornering. in order to do this i also require quick release steering

stroker blue printing and plastic gauging

blue printing is basically taking measurement, dimension and clearance.this measurement used to determine serviceable level and to monitor engine components within specification

precision tools required are telescopic bore gauge, 2" and 3"micrometer and vernier caliper

before measuring bore of big end rod, ensure the rod caps are torqued. and dimensions is measured at several point to check roundness. the roundness check actually must be done using dial gauge but difficult to get one and expensive.

for those who suffer the rod bearing failure, this inspection is mandatory. normally con rod bearing failure may result sign of burn or discoloration around the big end.most probably caused by metal to metal contact. so what you need to do? if the burn sign not so severe than try using sand paper to wipe it off.if the color doesn't go off, change the rod. if it can be wiped off than continue with measuring big end and check for roundness. to play safe roundness limit should within 0.0002".

checking dimension of crank journals = 1.9678 - 1.9685"

rod/pin journal = 1.7709-1.7717".

plastic gauge thread can get at 30 ringgit

next is put the plastic gauge on the installed crank, and install the crank cap and torque.

than remove the crank cap and see how much the thread being press. measure on widest thread as below show 0.002". it is represent how much clearance between crank and bearing.

pin journal i got 0.0015 which more on tighter side.

it is a vital process in building race engine, do it right for the first time..so than u don't have to disassemble the engine again.

time to identify the sensor's connector

TPS, and below is water temp and CAS. the microtech CAS is actually a wire shielded use to prevent any distorted signal from angle sensor. but i dont have the picture.

the microtech wiring loom are silver. after several year i realize that silver wire that being used not like a normal engine wire..it last much better coz the normal engine wires will burn internally especially at the joints. you will see change in color from copper to dark copper and sign of burn. but with microtech wiring loom i have never seen any of it.

direct connection to the std wiring..the best way to connect is soldering method..if not u might gonna have problems later on.For the lt10 i install it with out the injector ballast. i wired it direct from input power supply.

I also use a shielded wire as an insulator, take a closer look at the injectors connector and CAS connector

Time Attack prep: switching to smaller turbo

Reason for changing to smaller turbo:

to prepare the car for time attack.

the previous s256 turbo was best for drag racing and i tried it during track day, caused me lost of traction. the tires were spinning from one corner to another at sepang circuit and unable to floor the throttle.

Choice of turbo :

GT2871r, GT3071r (GT2835r), TD06 22G, TD05 20G, TD06 with TD05 turbine housing. Need to find the suitable turbine housing to match with the engine setup. Ideally the turbine housing is determining the fast spooling and the top end performance.

the turbo that i choose is :

TD05 20G billet wheel.

11 compressor blade.

12 turbine blade TD05.

TD06 compressor housing.

AR70 mitsubishi original turbine housing.

Why I choose this turbo? Coz I wanna the power available at the most of RPM range around 4500 to 8000

belows pic shows u 20G billet VS borgwarner s256 compressor blade.

20G billet with extended tip.68mm exducer. why I choose 11 blade and not a twin blade?
coz 11 blades allow power to increase gradually and not too drastic like a twin blade. hopefully it can reduce the tendency of tire spinning. too drastic like a twin blade is more suitable for drag racing.

the compressor is not a point milling type. it is a flank milling as u can see the picture smooth of compressor blade surface.not like the garret GTX surface. it only has lining in between the blades. the center hub also quite small to allow more air flows. all the blades are thinner compare to cast type compressor. if u compare the 20gG compressor billet with cast, the billet is way much more higher or taller.

12 blades of turbine.it is not as small as GT2871R turbine so good for higher rpm too. That is why I choose TD05 rather than Gt28

actually this turbo size is near to GT3071R.. a specially the turbine size.

H Drive super single

Just wanna share some picture here. I had this for long time already since the 1st week of H drive clutch been selling in malaysia. and here is a bit review of it. as far as i know it is design in US and made in thiland. but it looks like similar as RBP clutch. How ever the loceng sound bit noisier than RBP. one of the reason why its got this sound? So than u can hear it whether the clutch slipped at high RPM. if u can hear it than it is not suit to your HP. so far 350HP dyno dynamic no prob. pressing the clutch also not as hard as Exedy semi race even though it has higher strength on it spring. take a look at the pictures below, u can see double from each plate

Dual pass custom Radiator

I'm not sure whether there is others malaysian use this type of radiator..but it is not yet in the market here.so i have to customize it.but i know that there are some fabricator had more advance radiator which use two combined radiators into one unit, but it cost a lot more money. for normal radiator normally flowing vertically but mine flowing horizontally. o bought a forged racing radiator not very thick it is about 1.5 inch. the thicker the radiator not really perform better as aft side of cooling fin is not efficient enough.

water will return flow for second pass for another cooling phase.it good for track racing but not necessary for drag. who ever want this radiator it is also up for sale..RM 2500 nett. COD can be arrange at Selayang or Rawang.

some people call it twin pass radiator mostly used in nascar and time attack racing car like chriss rado.I put a few 1/2 inch under the frame that cause more clearance between the turbo

as high rev can cause air lock plus inefficient cooling in the radiator system so i put in breather tank from greedy.

microtech X4 IGBT..why should i have this?

Well i did't make any research on this thing why should i have this thing? BUT.. on my last dyno i was using standard TR unit aka ignition module,base of ignition chart my engine cannot sustain proper ignition during high boost.it may be coz of current setup with turbo and cams.There was also possibility of incorrect spark plug number . so i decided to take x4 IGBT, by having this also i can run through ignition wire to be sequential firing. it is quit simple wiring coz each coil has 2 connector. one +ve (power supply)and -ve. The -ve wire is connected to x4.

as shown here each coil has one power supply and one terminal grounded on X4. by running this way it can benefits u two things. one u reduce tendency of misfire as running waste spark. second reduce the working cycle of the coils by 50% compare to waste spark.

DIY COP... coil on plug

coils may be found on cherysler 4.7 or 300m coil..

U also need a toyota's connector P/N 90980-11246. this connector comes in a set with seal and pin.

make sure wires are compatable coz one of it is batt+ignition 12v.. the rest is signal from TR unit

by using the original plate n cut it in square to fit the coils in..u might be careful coz the one that near to oil cap is quite close each other..u can also used 3mm aluminum plate if u want to..much more better coz the coils will seat more properly on flat aluminum plate

here how to wire it up..base on drawing..coil signal run base on negtive/grounding type onTR unit..this diagram is for std wiring ignition system and not suitable if u are running with sequential setup.. sequential system requires for u to run the each signal wire invidually..so only sequential needs an aftermarket TR like x4 or AEM ignition module.

lastly connect the 3 wire with the existing connector at ur engine harness.

Toyo R888 vs AO48 yokohama

What i have here are semi slick tyres.. toyo r888 and yokohama A048..differently look side by side on P1 buddyclub rims. Both tyres are same in size 225-45-16 but been fitted to different size of rims.

toyo r888 is on 16 x 8.5jj.....and A048 is on 16 x 7.5jj.. By having these 2 size i'm gonna put wider tyre infront for better traction.

JUN 280 racing cam shaft VS oem

JUN valve spring......why do i need this..? answ...OEM may float during high rpm and high power..especially 400whp and above ur engine might be like fuel starving... but when i got this spring and try to see any diffrent..well both are similar in shape, just that jun has more roundness...how ever when i tried to compress to see the spring rate..both of it are bout the same..hmm..

280 duration with 11mm valve lift. at first i would like to have tomei racing cam shaft, but since many seller got no stock than i change to JUN...why tomei...? becouse tomei has 11.1mm lift and proven more power can be produced..try to google on "cam test"...

let see the dimension on pictures above... JUN =36.38mm , OEM = 35.32mm... so diff about 1.06mm

the JUN cam looks so beefy...to open the valve much more longer so than more air can be forced in to combustion

GSR open diff VS EVO LSD

lets take alook at these two different differential. GSR open and Evo LSD viscous
GSR 1.8 final drive is 15/58 while evo2 has 15/64 which abit bigger at pinion gear. so can these two LSD swap or interchangeable to GSR GBox housing? many people say that both can be change easily as they share the same configuration.

the securing bolt are same orientation but different in location. u may see why after this.

above is the lenght between two bolts which is 16mm on GSR but evo is way2 much more bigger u may compare the location around the bolts between these two LSD

above pic is to shows dimension No.1 on LSD's body can't be interchanged between the pinion gears. dimension no. 2 show diff in bolts location. u may sent to mechine shop to cut it but i belief they can't do it couse those are harden gears.

if u swap whole LSD evo 2 in it will fit bcoz of same bearing size but u may tilt the final gear away from its position.

conclusion = They are not interchangeable..... anybody had done it.? please share here for suggestion..

Clutch OEM vs semi race (EXEDY)

pressure plate spring also diff, semi race has 3 spring steel, oem only 2 that would give exedy better clamping force.

i had compared the friction plate between trinity clutch and found that exedy has more thicker and without riveted key.
semi race has 6 double springs while oem only 4 single springs. all these spring used to withstand centrifugal force from flywheel. i belief some of racing after markets do not hv this. the rivet also diff.
after installation it will tighly clamp each other. no free play.

cp pistons finishing fault

end ring gap also important coz the rate of expansion for aluminum pistons are more higher than cast. and this is to allow relief stress.

take a look very closely to the edge of the valve pocket. its very2 sharp. this may leads to hot spot and detonation. so what i did was failing that area.

CP pistons & I beam rods for 4g93t

Before i post my second rebuild thread, lets compare the differences between forged pistons and rods with my current mod

I use CP pistons, made from US 82mm. it's a custom piston with 19mm wrist pin. 9.0:1 compression ratio.

Duratech I beam con rods, i beleif made from China but most of Malaysian using it for more than 500whp and still reliable.

Bolt designed by ARP from US with size of 7/16. it smaller compare to 14mm bolt from CA18 rods but it's stronger and higher tensile strength.

throttle body 4g63t or 93t

70mm throttle body for 4g63 used this time. how ever it has some advantages and disadvantages.

there is no bypass air to compansate idling.i have to adjust the throttle cable stop screw. by doing it also will change TPS angle.i have to make sure
this TPS in a correct location. thank goodness that microtech be able to detect by looking the illumination of yellow light.
TPS retaining screws have to changed to a smaller one.the standard screw unable to fit in as the holes at new throttle body was a little bit small

this hole used to hook with my throttle cable. but it was way too small to fit it on. so i have to drill and largen the hole
works throttle body has come with a remote stapper motor however i'm not going to use it.

bore has been largen for better flow.
