Bloody Panda - Ice

2010-11-23T23:14:00.000-08:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGV7pEnqmls

This band, originary from New York, is one of the weirdest Sludge bands I've ever heard, due to the vocalist Yoshiko Ohara, that makes their sound pretty unique. For me, it's like if Yoko Ono had meet really heavy and dense Sludge. I hope you like it!

Editing: for those who cannot watch the vid because of the goddamn copyright shit, here's the band's Myspace, where some of their songs can be heard:

Pearl Jam - Black

2010-11-22T23:26:00.000-08:00

The most of the people already knows Pearl Jam, in my view the best grunge band ever, so I don't think it needs any introduction. My main problem was choosing just one song, finally I decided to post this one, from their first full-lenght called "Ten", an amazing debut album, played live, where Eddie Vedder shows his impressive singing skills.

PS: I had some problems with my computer this last days, sorry about the delay posting.

Cathedral - Captain Clegg

2010-11-21T09:41:00.000-08:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKbzbWAWu_0

One of my favourite songs by Cathedral, english fathers of Stoner Doom which I was lucky enough to see live in Wacken Open Air 2009. Quite heavy and also some psychodelic, I instantly fell in love with this song the first time I heard it.

Orthodox - Con Sangre de Quien te Ofenda

2010-11-20T13:17:00.000-08:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ARM1V6t10k

"With Blood Of Those Who Give Offend To You" is the name of a song from the second album of the spanish doomsters Orthodox, without doubt one of the best bands actually active in this country. The play a sensational mix of Doom Metal and southern spain folklore, highly influenced by sevillian Holy Week, creating an unique sound that I really love. Enjoy!

Andrew W.K. - She is Beautiful

2010-11-19T05:08:00.000-08:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZyhB1-Yb4U

I heard this song some years ago and now I still like it, despite I have no idea about what happened with Andrew W.K. later. Anyway, it's fine to find some love-but-not-soppy songs, I hope you enjoy it (the few that didn't know this)

Alabama 3 - Woke Up This Morning

2010-11-17T23:36:00.000-08:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oH_-mtEKIgc

In my view, an awesome tv serie needs an awesome original soundtrack, and The Soprano's has one of the bests. I admit, is one of my favourites so I can't be objetive, anyway I still think this song is just epic..."So loud John Coltraine and Charles Mingus"

Crippled Black Phoenix - Rise Up and Fight

2010-11-17T06:20:00.000-08:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jI6OupafUgY

From the collaboration of members of Electric Wizard, Iron Monkey, Mogwai and others born in 2004 Crippled Black Phoenix, a post-rock band with high quality compositions due to the experience of the musicians that participate in this project. This is from, in my view, their best album, 200 Tons of Bad Luck, released in 2009 with some other awesome songs, as for example Burnt Reynolds.

Guahaihoque - Revelations

2010-11-16T00:01:00.000-08:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BHjSsR9BKE

Eleven years after the birth of this band from Colombia, their first album was released with the title The Return of the Ancient Gods. In it, Guahaihoque mix Black Metal with South American folk played with pre-columbian wind instruments. Not the best band in the world but anyway quite interesting, I think.

Woven Hand - Story and Pictures

2010-11-15T07:33:00.000-08:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnV4rPHjFa0

David Eugene Edwards, founder of 16 Horsepower, (band that also worth listening, at least their amazing cover of Bad Moon Rising by Creedence) started in 2002 is own group, Woven Hand. This song is the result, I don't say this really often but it's, by far, the best stuff I've heard in this whole year.

Swallow the Sun - Hope

2010-11-14T00:29:00.000-08:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XK0cWiCUa7g

I heard Swallow the Sun for the first time like five years ago, and they became instantly one of my favourites Death Doom bands. Since then their albums are becoming better and better, with not a single disappointing or even boring song. This one is the first from the 2007 album called Hope, in my view a truly masterpiece. Enjoy!

Benny Goodman Orchestra - Sing Sing Sing (with a Swing)

2010-11-12T23:46:00.000-08:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2S1I_ien6A

I don't think this music needs more introduction, it's just a perfect song by The Benny Goodman Orchestra known throughout the world. I could say, as usual, enjoy it, but I think it's impossible to not do it.

Equilibrium - Widars Hallen

2010-11-11T23:35:00.000-08:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSjiMHIEv_E

A wild viking metal band appeared! These germans came out from nowhere in 2005 with an awesome album called Turis Fratyr, plenty of songs full of folky melodies, but really powerful anyway, and soon this release became one of my favourites of that year. Now it's a quite popular band, so probably Viking Metal fans will already know this... but if not, enjoy!

Eduardo Barazano - Capricho Árabe (by Tárrega)

2010-11-10T23:20:00.000-08:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUeJGfKN960

Today I'm going to show you a classical guitar piece, Capricho Árabe (Arabic Caprice) composed by Francisco Tárrega, one of the most reputated melodists ever. It's playe by the uruguayan guitarrist Eduardo Baranzano, and it's, by far, my favourite interpretation of this song. I hope you enjoy it!

Unexpect - Desert Urbania

2010-11-09T23:23:00.000-08:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbSUEbG3OVE

Something happened with the mind of the members of this canadian band between 1999 and 2003, cause while preparing the release of their second work, Utopia, they all became completely crazy. And they still are, this song from their second full-length, In A Flesh Aquarium, proves. This album fucked my mind years ago, so beware with yours.

Lurte - Various Songs

2010-11-08T23:28:00.000-08:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4tiKTUfkJw

Lurte is a band that play Folk music from the region of Spain where I was born, Aragón, and sing in the language that was spoken here some centuries ago. Their performances are really funny, they all appear disguised as in medieval times, playing typical instruments from the region, some of them quite similar to galician folk instruments.

Earth - Engine of Ruin

2010-11-08T05:28:00.000-08:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcLic3qg-90

I know Drone isn't a very appreciated music style but anyway I wanted to show you all a good track of this genre because I think it could seem interesting to some people. This is a song composed by the north american band Earth, considered fathers of Drone music, and released in year 2008 in the album called The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull, where Drone is mixed with some kind of southern rythms.

It's really slow music, so be patient and relax with it. I hope you enjoy it!

Kool and the Gang - Celebration

2010-11-07T01:46:00.000-07:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GwjfUFyY6M

Yesterday this blog reached one hundred followers, so I guess this is a very appropiate song for today. This band was founded about forty years ago, and they're still active, probably thanks to this hymn that made them internationally famous.

Gary Jules - Mad World

2010-11-06T01:12:00.000-07:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4N3N1MlvVc4

Is there anyone under 40 years old that doesn't like Donnie Darko? I don't think so, at least I've never met anybody. If the film is quite good, the OST is just awesome. This song makes me feel kinda weird, probably nostalgia grows when listening to it. Pretty nice vid, by the way.

Alcest - Souvenirs D'Un Autre Monde

2010-11-05T00:31:00.000-07:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fm7S6eGDPvY

How could Neige, frontman of a Black Metal band as hard as Peste Noire, release in 2007 such a beautiful album? I really don't know, but I enjoy a lot every single second from Souvenirs D'Un Autre Monde, including its amazing cover, one of the best I've ever seen.

Love of Lesbian - Allí Donde Solíamos Gritar

2010-11-04T00:25:00.000-07:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjCjmp_TM6c

Pop rock is not the music I usually listen to, however this band from Barcelona really hooked me with their last album called "1999 (o cómo generar incendios de nieve con una lupa enfocando la luna)" Songs from this album are just amazing, truly emotional and with impressive lyrics. If anyone is interested, here is the english translation of this song, is not perfect but quite precise. Enjoy it!

Electric Wizard - Funeralopolis

2010-11-03T00:29:00.000-07:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sO7VP34n2Ps

In my view, there's not a lot of Stoner bands as good as Electric Wizard. This heavy and psychodelic song is from probably my favourite release of this genre ever: Dopethrone, an amazing album perfect for smoking some weed and relax. I know it's not the kind of music that everyone likes, but I think it could be interesting for some people.

Goran Bregović - Kalashnikov

2010-11-02T00:42:00.000-07:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtX-V4OE50Y

Kalashnikov is one of the most popular songs from this yugoslavian musician that composed many OST, a big part of them for Emir Kusturica's movies. Personally I recommend this artist to any interested in Eastern Europe folk music, had a lot of fun dancing his songs in Cluj Napoca (Romania)

Helloween - If I Could Fly

2010-10-31T23:53:00.000-07:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23Cca-7UX-E

I'm back for Madrid, and as it has been Halloween recently, what can be better than song from this band to celebrate? I admit I'm not very much into Power Metal, nonetheless I always loved this song. It's from their album The Dark Ride, sung by Andi Deris. Enjoy it!

Buenavista Social Club - Chan Chan

2010-10-29T23:19:00.000-07:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoQNj2tlZhg

Fifty years before the closing of Buenavista Social Club in La Habana, Ry Cooder and Juan de Marcos Gonzales, along with some cuban musicians that belonged to that social club, started this band, making some of the most popular cuban songs. This one is probably the most representative, I hope you enjoy.

PS: I'm going this weekend to Madrid, so there won't be new entries until Monday. I'm sorry about that.

PPS: Not "cuacks" today, I'm also sorry about that

TrollfesT - Villanden

2010-10-28T23:44:00.000-07:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pvbGdUh9Lg

This song needs no more description than: Cuack cuack! Cuack cuack! Cuack cuack cuack cuaaaaack!
