Biotechnology (also called biotech) is not a new discipline for the world. It has been there with the humans for thousands of years. However, back then people didn’t know the term ‘Biotechnology’. Still they kept exploiting the applications of biotechnology. For example: humans have developed new strains of crops by interbreeding different species of crops. They also used the technique of selective breeding extensively, without knowing the fundamental principles of biotechnology. It is like you are driving a car, without knowing the complex mechanisms that are helping you drive the car.

In simple words, we can say that the biotechnology is a marriage between the biology and the technology. You can remember it by breaking the term biotechnology in two parts, i.e. Bio + Technology.
